Late celebration of my mom’s birthday, we decided to try out Tamarind. We all haven’t tried a full on Thai resto before so I my hopes are high.
The place is open and adjacent to the entrance so it’s quite hot. The interior is decorated with everything you can associate with the Thai culture - pictures of known thai food, woven ratan, and wooden dividers.
Pho Pia Sod: Fresh Vegetables Spring Rolls - 4/5 Rating. It tastes like lumpiang sariwa, but there’s something in the middle of each roll that I can’t identify - it’s meaty and chewy at the same time. I can’t eat nuts so I opted out on the sauce but my fam liked it.
Kor Moo Yang: Grilled Bacon Cut Pork Belly - 4/5 Rating. Nothing unusual - grilled pork! But it’s very tender and has the right amount of seasoning. I don’t think the amount though (300+) justifies it - only four thin slices.
Kaprao Gai: Chicken Basil - my favorite! 5/5 Rating. The chicken slices were tender and you can really taste the basil and other herbs they put in. Just be careful of the chilis. Nasty!
While a small order can be quite pricey, I would order it again next time I visit.
Pad Sew Iew - Moo: Flat Noodles with Soy Sauce - Pork - 2.5/5 Rating. It would have received a higher rating if the pork was left out. It felt like you were chewing a beef jerky - which doesnt really suit well in a noodle. Had to set it aside. I enjoyed the lat noodles though. Maybe choose chicken or seafood next time.
I would definitely come back and try out their other dish - but I need to be careful as most of it are spicy hahah.
The food we ordered plus the Mixed Sate which the waiter suggested were all good. It’s was quite pricey but it’s delicious and satisfying. The Kor Moo Yang even the Mixed Sate was both tender and flavourful.
The Pad Thai and their vegetables we're great! Tastes like authentic Thai food. ☺ The portion of the chopsuey was just a bit small. Also the waiters were not so accomdating. But the food was good ☺
