Dining at this restaurant became quite an experience for me. I'm fond of finding interesting hole-in-the-wall type of places and Manpuku is definitely a hidden gem in Makati.
We came to Makati Cinema Square at already past 9pm and all the shops were already closed. You had to walk inside the old and quiet mall to get to the restaurant. When we thought we were getting lost, that's when we finally spotted it right beside a 24-hour bingo gaming place. The interiors were very simple, very standard Japanese if you ask me. The freezer display showed the variety of wagyu beef they had to serve. They had an open kitchen where you could see the food being prepared.
The head chef who was clearly Japanese stood by watching the customers and his staff as they prepared the meals. He nodded at us as we took our seats. There were about 5 tables and only 2 were occupied including ours. As soon as our orders reached the kitchen, the head chef joined his staff in preparing our orders. It was so exciting to see him at work with them - checking the slices of sashimi, tasting the soup, watching the steak being grilled, and even adding his touches on the plating of the steak.
The food looked simple but were absolutely delicious. We ordered salmon sashimi, maki, and steak for sharing. The steak was served with corn and onions and no sauce but you didn't need any sauce because it was already very tasty especially with the onions on the side. They also serve their drinks with reusable bamboo straws which is definitely a plus point for me. This is definitely going to be a go-to late night Japanese steak place for me. There are more stuff to try on their menu and I'm looking forward to that!
