The ambiance is not that great. The aircon is not working all the time. Maybe they are saving eletric bills so it's fine. But the food is nice and the serving is big. 500 is enough for 2 people.

Just had Pinakbet na Bagnet delivered and I loved it!! :) Servings are really good for 2-3! Even for 4 if you are light eaters.

Delivery review: Quick, complete, all requests addressed, still hot, and placed neatly in microwavable containers! Definitely ordering again when I get back in area. And might visit the place when I find time. :)

I usually avoid Filipino restaurants when I eat out as I could easily cook most of my favorite Filipino dishes at home. However, whenever I crave for dishes that painstakingly take time to prepare like bulalo and kare-kare, I’d eat out. Honestly, I have not heard of Nicandro Lutong Bahay as it doesn’t seem to be active in social media. I only came to be acquainted with this cozy Filipino restaurant tucked along the famous Lilac Street during a Marikina food crawl sponsored by Zomato and ABS-CBN. And I was not prepared to taste something different.

Found along lilac st., this resto truly feels like home. They serve filipino dishes that tastes just right.
OTT:
Sizzling sisig - nothing extra
Ensalada - healthy! Ask for extra bagoong
Green mango shake 👍

The phrase "lutong bahay" warrants a place that has a homey, cozy feel to it and that was my expectation of this restaurant. I never frequent Antipolo or Marikina so I actually had no idea about Nicandro's. At first glance, the interiors actually looked nice. I liked the tables and the set-up. The space was small and it felt a bit cramped.

We were served Beef and Ox Tripe kare-kare, Pinakbet sa Bagnet, Sinigang na Baka sa Bayabas and Deep Fried Baby Squid. For our drinks, it was a choice between their house blend iced tea and sugar cane juice.

I opted to skip the kare-kare for the reasons I stated above and focused on the other dishes. My top pick would be the Deep Fried Baby Squid! It was perfectly seasoned and the crispy batter somehow got that little melt-in-your-mouth feel. I don't know if it's just me or what. Haha. I really enjoyed eating that. Number two would be the Pinakbet sa Bagnet because I love bagnet and they also did a great job on this one! I usually pick the pork and leave the veggies but this time I enjoyed both. Perfect with a cup of rice! The Sinigang na Baka sa Bayabas was a foreign concept to me. I love my sinigang sour and this had more sweetness to it -- yes, because it was guava-based. It was just okay for me. And while the other foodies chose their house blend iced tea over the sugar cane juice after tasting it, I liked it. Sure, it tasted different but it was really refreshing.

Nicandro Lutong Bahay is known for its Filipino dishes, so I told myself I will give it a try on my birthday.

The staff who assisted us and who took our orders was extremely polite. When we wanted to order Liempo (which was out of stock), she apologized and immediately offered an alternative. Good service, I say.

We ordered Halaan soup, Pork Sisig, Chopseuy and Garlic Rice. Halaab soup was my favorite! Although it wasn't too hot when it was served to us, I didn't mind since we were dining with kids. The Pork Sisig and Chopseuy were both average. The Garlic Rice bowl is already good for 3-4 people.

The ambiance is good. My favorite are their rustic dining tables which compliments the food when you take a picture of it.

Nicantro is one of those places with a lot of potential, and just needs follow through. I liked the "lutong bahay" concept, but the prices of the food didnt match -a  serving of their sabaw-based mains would range between 250-450php. I thought this was just a tad expensive considering they tasted ordinary.

What i did like about Nicandro was the variety of soup-based mains and the fried squid. I loved the fried squid! It was perfectly seasoned and crispy. The sauces that came with it were perfectly complementary to the flavour of the squids batter. They also have sugarcane juice which was refreshing and sweet.

Located at the ground floor of Empire Fashion Cafe, this "pampamilya" resto offers familiar Filipino dishes.  Ordered kare-kare sa bagnet and salted egg shrimp, both good for 3-4 persons.  Cooked and tasted right just like at home.

Was a little bit hot when we were there - ac was not working.  Left smelling food all over.  Other than this, still recommended for large serving at the right price.
