PYANGGANG MANOK BY PALM GRILL

A restaurant whose main focus is to serve Authentic Southern Mindanao Dishes without the hassle of travelling to Zamboanga or Tawi-Tawi.

Miggy Moreno, the owner, has a goal of bringing Palm Grill's most loved dishes to more people so he decided to have a "fast food" concept -- wherein people can enjoy great food with generous serving and authentic taste while still on a budget. (You can have a meal for as low as 110php)

BEST SELLERS:
OSWALDA'S FRIED CHICKEN
- Pyanggang Manok's savory chicken that is good with or without sauce. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. This dish comes with two sauces -- Gravy and Peanut Sauce. I like both sauces.

PYANGGANG MANOK (GREEN CHICKEN)
- This dish has Toasted Coconut on top and has spices that when you start chewing the meat, your tongue is starting to become a playground of flavors but the dominant one for me is the Toasted Coconut which gives the dish a texture.

BEEF KOLMA
- Looks like curry but does not taste like curry. The sauce is bursting with so much flavor but has a perfect thickness. If there is a Filipino Curry, I could nominate this one!

TIYULA ITUM
- This dish is known as Mindanao's Delectable Bulalo. The broth is rich with spices while the beef is tender and really chewy!

BEEF SATTI
- A dish with a sauce that has a kick of tolerable spiciness. The beef is easy to cut and chew. While the Potato that they use for this dish is heavier and can be a good substitute for rice.

KNICKER (FRUIT HALO-HALO)
- I am not a halo-halo fan because of the process of mixing the ice and all that but this is something I can have -- not too sweet and really refreshing. The flavors bursts in my mouth. Not to mention, if you are craving for something sweet and filling YOU SHOULD GET THIS. I could consider this as a meal

COCOROONS
- This dessert is to die for!!! Its really good -- there are coconut bits but I can chew them easily. Having one is sinfully good but having two is a blessing of addiction 🤣

Pyanggang Manok is the fast food concept of Palm Grill which offers cuisines originating from southern Mindanao (Sulu, Zamboanga, Basilan, Tawi-tawi). Their cuisines are really unique. The ambiance is the same as other fast food chains. Location is quite hidden in Starmall Shaw but it is located outside (near Mercury Drug and Tiangge).

We got to try of course, their specialty, the Pyanggang Manok - smokey flavored chicken topped with their signature burnt coconut sauce (the reason it was dark). This was the crowd favorite that day.

Oswalda's Fried Chicken - fried chicken served with either gravy or peanut sauce. Their gravy is quite ordinary but the peanut sauce is flavorful and sweet enough as a dip to that chicken.

Beef Kolma - Tender beef chunks with potatoes, has a similar taste to beef curry.

Beef Satti - moderately spicy taro soup. You can taste how flavorful the meat is because of the marinade. I'm not a fan of their sweet/spicy sauce but most of them liked this dish.

Knicker - creamy halo-halo with less ice and with fresher fruit ingredients. Honestly, I like this version of halo-halo compared to the usual ones I'm consuming.

I also love their Cocoroons!!!

Price range is on the affordable side. It was new to me but I like it! Recommended!

Pyanggang manok is one of the best chicken dishes I’ve ever had; and if it hadn’t been for Foodpanda, I wouldn’t have tried it just because with Shangri-La, Megamall and Podium around,I have no reason to go to StarMall.

It is incredible. The chicken is cooked perfectly: tender and smoky, and the lemongrassy coconut sauce, quite similar to palak murgh (spinach chicken) is absolutely marvelous. I’m definitely recommending this place to everyone who likes chicken and curry. Their veggie sides are also very good and well-seasoned. I’m definitely ordering from this place again tomorrow to try their other dishes.

I visited Pyongyang Manok based on the review of fellow Zoman Harvard. I picked up 3 dishes from here for our dinner, and all of them were unique and tasty. All the dishes are from Southern Mindanao.

Pyangyang Manok is an excellent braised chicken with turmeric, onions, lemongrass and garlic and topped with wonderfully fragrant burnt coconut.

Beef Satti is an adaptation of Satay, but the sauce is red, sweet and spicy (more spicy than sweet). The beef skewers are dipped in this sauce and served with sticky rice.

Beef Kolma is another unique dish influenced, I believe, by Arab spice traders who were visiting Sulu from the 13th century. Tender beef chunks cooked in coconut milk and curry and served on a bed of rice.

Pyanggang Manok is a hidden gem in Starmall that offers delicious, filling, and affordable meals. Tried their Pyanggang Manok and Oswalda's Fried Chicken and both are really delicious options, but I really encourage you to try the Pyanggang one. The serving size is big and it comes with drinks and unlimited soup. The staff are very attentive and friendly. Also tried Cocoroons and it tastes like your typical macaroons with caramel drizzle and cherry.

The Philippines, our country with more than 7,000 islands, truly has so much to offer. Our culture is rich in history, every town and city have stories to tell. There is a distinct identity on attractions, food, and even its people.

One of the places I haven't had the opportunity to travel to is Southern Mindanao. And until I don't have the time yet to do so, I'm glad someone has brought a glimpse of them here in Manila.

Through the leadership of Aldo Miggy, Pyanggang Manok has arrived. It recently opened its doors in the ground floor of Star Mall last December 2018. They offer signature meals from Zamboanga, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi Tawi. This is the fast food concept of Palm Grill in Tomas Morato, Quezon City.

The characters of each product they have curated in their short menu are one of a kind, am quite sure most of what Pyanggang Manok serves is unique to them.

Their banner dish is strange but wonderful. The namesake Pyanggang Manok (Php 135, plus Php 20 for unli-rice) is also known as chicken in blackened coconut curry. It combines multiple flavors highlighted by the slightly burnt coconut and chargrilled chicken tastes. If you're not as adventurous, I suggest having their own recipe of fried chicken, Oswalda's. It's well-seasoned and comes with a delicious thick peanut sauce.

My favorite here has to be the dark soup, Tiyula Itum (Php 120). It is Mindanao's savory version of Bulalo. Everything about it is intense! The soup base has a long list of spices and it is intertwined well with the beef. Have this with any of their rice bowls (all just Php 125)- Roast Beef, Locon Zamboanga, Sweet & Sour, Beef Kolma (curry) or Beef Tapa. Pushing you to order the tapa, it's moist and savory with a hint of sweetness.

Another must-have here is the Beef Satti, a spicy taro soup, popularly called as the food of Satan in some parts of Malaysia and Mindanao regions. To mellow down its heat, pair it with any of their vegetables. Pyanggang Manok has the Roasted which is similar to Lumpiang Hubad (Php 110) and Aquiong's Pinakbet (Php 115).

For dessert, they have three varieties, and they were more than decent. I liked the fruity Knicker Halo Halo the most, followed by the coconut-filled Cocoroons and then the familiar Buco Pandan.

Pyanggang Manok delivers to you affordable and fast Southern Mindanao cuisine. They also provide you the instant access to the wonderful regions most of us haven't been.
