Yumi has been on my list of places to go. I have gotten and read some reviews that they have a good selection of chirashi bowls as well as uni/sea urchin. I am a sucker for uni plus seeing Yumi on a food discount app, I had to go.

I forgot which chirashi I ordered. All I know it was one of the ones with uni of course. Sadly, there was no uni, so I had the option of substituting it with maguro/tuna. I also originally planned to order Uni Pasta, but that obviously didn’t happen. Instead I ordered Soft Shell Crab Tempura. I will admit that I was a little bummed, but not so much. I a man also a sucker for soft shell crab, and was more than happy to see it as a tempura option on the menu, as not a lot of Japanese places have it.

The chirashi bowl was very good. The sashimi was flavourful and not at all fishy. The vinegared sushi rice had a nice tang that balanced well with the pink sugar. Honestly, I prefer the tanginess being there and strong, than being short and no flavour for the rice, and only tasting sweet pink sugar. Definitely in my top 5 of places to eat chirashi bowls.

The soft shell crab tempura was quite surprising when it was served to me. The portion was huge, and actually good for 2. I admit that even if I was dining alone, I was able to finish it because it was super delicious. The breading was just right—light and crisp. I could still taste a lot of the crab, and it was truly oishi!

Food: 4.5 - Oishi! Just really was craving for uni.

Price: 4.0 - Pricing seemed a little steep. Thanks to a food app though, I was able to get a good discount.

Service: 5.0 - Friendly staff. They communicated clearly what could be substituted with the sushi chef.

Ambience: 3.5 - The place seemed dark and dreary to me. Brighter lights would be nice.

Yumi has a very big menu. I will most certainly come back to try other dishes and pray that uni will be in stock.

Ate here Sunday with my family. Great place and good food. My only gripe is that my Tamago Sashimi and Kani sashimi never arrived and I had to cancel the order. Their sukiyaki says that it’s good for 2-3 pax but it is closer to 3-4 pax. Tempura was heavenly and their bento boxes are worth the price. Special mention to the scallops, beautiful and buttery.

Went to the Resto at around 8pm-9pm and thought that the place was closed since there were no customers at that time. The servers were very accommodating and was patient enough to wait for our final orders. We were given drinks and small appetizers while we were still picking on what to order.

Food ordered:
1. Tantanmen Ramen
- Has a small kick of spicyness and the overall flavor is just right - Not too salty. Though i think it was lacking a bit of presentation and the soup was overflowing.
2. Buta Miso Ramen
- Not too sure how this is different with eating an ordinary Shio Ramen but it still tastes good. Though my friend was a bit concerned on the meat since it was a bit sour.
3. California Maki with Flying Fish Roe
- This was served just after a few minutes we finished ordering our food. Just your typical california maki but the size is bigger than what i was expecting. Nonetheless, cravings were satisfied 💯

The ramen has a serving that is good for 1-2 persons. Will definitely go back to try out some of their desserts 😊

My favorites are: 1) Chirashi Ikura Sake or Chirashi Salmon (since I don’t eat everything that’s in the assorted Chirashi, I like Salmon more), 2) Uni Sashimi, 3) Cauliflower Chahan - tastes like Japanese Fried Rice but healthier!, 4) Salmon Sashimi and 5) Hiyashi Chuka Salad Ramen - which is cold ramen noodles with sesame dressing, cucumber & crabstick, think of it as Japanese pasta!

If you're a follower of this blog, then you know all about Richie's travels around California a few months ago. Like you, I too watched in envy as he would post delicious dishes from the U.S.A.. So when we got an invitation to visit Yumi Japanese Restaurant in Greenhills Promenade, I decided to go alone and give him a taste of his own medicine, and show him what he was missing back home.      Much to my delight, I discovered that Yumi serves beautifully plated Japanese dishes. But more than just being visually stunning, the dishes were of course delicious!

Their Shio Butter Ramen tastes good: milky, creamy broth topped with pork, quail eggs and corn.

Tantanmen was the best! It's not as I expected a tantanmen would be, but the broth was great. It's supposed to be spicy, but this one's got a roasted feel to it. Loved the roasted pork on top!! I just wished it would be a little bit spicier then it would be so perfect.

Love their Golden Roll as well! The shrimp's so crunchy it's like I have butterflies on my stomach when I'm eating ❤️

I just didn't like how they quickly cleaned up all our plates even if my friends and I are still chatting. So that's a no no in my opinion. ✌🏼️

On the rare occasion that I was in the area with my parents one Sunday, we dropped by Yumi for me to have lunch. I knew there was a branch in Poblacion but never really went out of my way to dine in that branch.

Design-wise, it is located in the newer building in Promenade and is actually quite in an isolated spot by the stairs/elevator on the second floor. The restaurant could fit a large amount of people but was utterly empty when we were there - the vibe was quite gloomy and frankly, dead.

Service-wise, it was just our table plus one other pair so obviously there was nothing very challenging about this.

Food-wise, since I was the only one eating it only made sense to get only up to two items.

Gyudon (P265)
It came in a bowl much smaller than what I am used to from other establishments but the rice was authentic and the beef was very flavorful and it turned out to be an okay serving size for the price.

Spicy Salmon Sashimi (P280+)
Note that this is not the actual name of the dish, I could not find it on their online menu. When I had asked the server how many slices it was, she said about 8 thin slices but when the food arrived - it seemed to be so much more! The fresh salmon was coated in a spicy mix of chili powder, crunchy tempura flakes and covered with wasabi mayonnaise. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it tasted and thought it was definitely value for money.

Over-all, I would give my experience in this establishment a 4.0 for the quality of their food. The prices on some dishes seem a bit much but based from other reviews, the serving sizes are worth it - so I may just give their Poblacion branch a shot one day.

Food was a bit pricey but it's worth it! The bento box was huge which includes tuna and salmon sashimi, coleslaw, miso soup, gyoza, rice, and your choice of chicken teriyaki, beef, or ebi tempura. The miso soup was tasty, as well as the chicken teriyaki. We also ordered the Ushi ebi tempura crunchy roll, chahan, ebi tempura and aspa enoki bacon. All of those taste good, especially the aspa enoki bacon. I liked its smoky flavor and its sauce. Chahan was flavorful as well. I wish they'll have yakisoba in the future 😊

I was searching for a nearby ramen place that opens earlier and found this. Cozy place with dim lights.
Ordered buta miso ramen and tori chiisu maki. The ramen was good, but not that special though. It may have been better if you add chilli powder but since there's only two (and other customers have it), the waiter opted to give us the chilly oil instead. The tori chiisu maki was surprisingly really good!
A bit pricey but hey, they have promos every mon-wed!
Service is good. Attentive staff. Waiting time for food, around 20-30minutes.

We came here for lunch. It was just us and another table eating there and what immediately caught my attention was the ambience of the restaurant -- so intimate and private (probably even if there were a lot of tables occupied as well). YUMI sits alone on the mezzanine floor. I commend their music choice as well, they had some jazz, electronic, generally chill music on.

Going to the food...
We ordered spicy tuna roll, smoked salmon salad, gyudon, a scallop dish, and a chicken dish (tori kuwayaki if I remember it right).

The tuna roll wasn't as spicy as I wanted it to be, being a spicy lover that I am 😔. The smoked salmon salad had peanut sauce as part of the dressing but the greens was really off. I didn't like it's taste -- some of the greens were bitter and some were okay.

The gyudon however, was the 💣! We ordered one for the two of us and the bowl was kinda small yet it had a lot of the dish. It was enough for me and my boyfriend who thought it was the best gyudon he's tasted. 😋

The chicken dish was fried chicken strips with a sauce similar to barbeque sauce and tofu. It was yummy but I liked the tofu more than the chicken. Hahaha! I guess the chicken strips were too thin.

The scallops were really yummy as it was complemented by the cheese. You could add the lemon but it wasn't malansa for me so I didn't.

I recommend trying their ramen since it's part of their specialties! 😊

This will just be a short review

1. We got mojitos! The green apple mojitos is sweet but it tasted like green apple powdered juice but lil alcohol and a sugared cut apples. However, their lychee Mojito was really good

2. Ramen noodles wasn't that good since its like those noodles from the instant noodles one

3. Chirasu Moriawase would've been better if the rice was vinegared and not sugar

The place is nice though and it gives you more privacy. It's perfect for chilling but however, I think they need a bit improvement with the food

Sake Sashimi
Chicken Terriyak Bento Box
Buta Miso Ramen
Avocado, Orange, Matcha icecream

One of the freshest Sake (Salmon) sahimi ive had ever! Also a plus that it was thickly cut.

The Bento Box was also worth its price as it was filling AND it will make you happy because of how delicious it is. The Chicken was nicely glazed with terriyaki sauce but it wasnt too sweet. Also loved the gyoza because it wasnt oily at all. Tuna sashimi was also fresh.

The Buta Miso Ramen was also good not only as to taste but also as to serving. It can be good for 2 or even 3 persons if youre not that hungry.

The winner for me here was the Matcha Icecream. It tasted like the authenric matcha icecream i had in Japan. Although the Orange flavored one may be a little weird at first, it was still delicious, as well as thr Avocado Icecream.

All in all, a great experience!

Tucked in the upper ledge of the second floor of the Promenade in Greenhills, Yumi seems to be hiding away from the busy end of this mall. Still, from experience, most joints that are hard to find are usually a gem.

Unassuming with a typical Japanese restaurant aura, Yumi offers no frills Japanese cuisine. The place is quite small, a bit dank, but classy on its own.

Highs:
1. Bento boxes: priced attractively, the typical lunch box comes in your choice of beef, pork, or the ebi version. I picked the 3rd option. The prawns were medium sized, the batter light and crisp. Importantly, the tempura was not oily. The few slices of salmon and tuna sashimi were more than enough to curb my appetite for raw things. The salmon stood out with its silky smooth texture. I wasn't a fan of the tuna though. The gyoza was lightly seared, but the pork filling was a bit lacking in flavor. The typical shredded cabbage siding broke the monotony of fried food. The bento boxes are a steal with the generous servings, priced under 600 bucks.

2. Chicken skin yakitori: I'm a lover of anything skewered, and I was missing the Tori-q stalls of Singapore, so I gave this a try. Generous pieces of crunchy skin was grilled to perfection. The strange thing though was that it came with a mayonnaise dip, which did not pair well. Would have preferred the usual sweet teriyaki dressing. Still, the salty smokey flavor was addicting.

3. Aspara bacon: another skewered masterpiece. Thick slices of grilled bacon enveloped succulent and fresh asparagus stalks. Again, the teriyaki sauce was light yet flavorful, not overwhelming to the senses. Highly addicting.

Lows:
1. Golden roll: i'm not a fan of fusion rolls, and this version of prawn maki topped with mango was not mind blowing.

Yumi sure does not make enough effort to be known by its location, but the food is quite good and of high quality. Despite the numerous players in the Japanese food scene in Greenhills alone, Yumi stands out with good value for money. Prices are reasonable, and the bento boxes are a definite steal. The yakimono selection seems to be its strongest suit, as is the teppanyaki, from what I've heard. Will definitely try their gyudon and beef teppan next visit. However, their weakness seems the makimono / rolls section, paling in their selections to that of Omakase. Nevertheless, Yumi is a welcome addition to a crowded genre, offering more bang for your buck.

The place is a bit small and the lighting a little too dark for my taste, but the food was amazing. My favorite is the beef teppan (US Sirloin) which was medium rare to medium well. Each bite was so juicy and tender! The gyoza was also amazing, so amazing we had to order another one. Best eaten right after the waiter brings it to your table (and with rice! Haha). A bit more pricey than other Japanese restos but so worth it! #QueenMuncherPH

Personally, Yumi wasn't bad, I was recommended by a friend that I order the bento meal, so I did. After being seated and checking the menu, I was surprised that from its old price of P350, the price of the Chicken Teriyaki bento was raised to P420. Even with that, I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki nonetheless.

While the food wasn't bad, I think it didn't deserve the price raise. The chicken and gyoza were pretty decent, and the salmon was a bit disappointing because I expected a lot from it. However, the tuna was great, although I normally prefer the salmon over the tuna, the tuna was actually my favorite in the set, and it was complimented with good wasabi! (which I don't normally find in typical japanese restaurants in Metro Manila)

The service was fine, the waiters/waitresses were accommodating, but in our first seat, water was dripping from the walls due to the place's airconditioning. We were transferred shortly after.

I might be coming back to try the other menu items, but won't be ordering the salmon sashimi/sushi anymore for that price and quality.

Today's my first time eating at this restaurant, upon a recommendation of a friend. Having high expectations, especially on Sashimi, I immediately decided to order one of their Chirashi. Waiting time was good, as the food arrived just after a few minutes upon ordering. The taste truly resembles that of being at an authentic Japanese restaurant, with their food's quality beyond sub-standard; however, ambience didn't entirely come in sync with the restaurant's Japanese interior, as the music playist was mostly (if not all) western pop music. Overall, the experience was great and definetely a noteworthy restaurant around GH.

With all that positive comments, I would have given a higher rating if the service was good. The wait staff took so long with a lot of dishes and even said they couldn't give water right away because the glasses were being washed.. 20 mins or so just to get water. Frankly, I don't know how new or old Yumi GH is, but I feel stupid for not finding this Promenade gem hidden away at the Mezzanine level (or hiding away in plain sight). I frequent the new cinema, but I always found myself going to Wafu when I crave for Japanese.

I've only been to Yumi twice, but I have only fallen in love with it more! Staff is very attentive, promos are on point, and the dishes are well-executed and easy on the eyes! I love the ambience.

Did I mention that the PROMOS ARE ON POINT?! Discounts on Ramen on Mondays, and Buy 1, Take 1 on Tuesdays + a daily happy hour and further discounts for students or birthday celebrants! Also: post a picture of your food on social media, and they'd gladly give you a scoop of ice cream per person! I can obviously just rave on about this place forever.

I super recommend the Sake Sushi Balls, btw. A perfect dash of cream cheese, and that strip of perfectly fried skin on top makes for an interesting play on the usual salmon Philadelphia-type roll.

Tummy is pleased + aesthetic needs met
Will definitely drag more friends along for future visits!

It was a good weather for Ramen one Monday night that Jason and I decided to eat at YUMI in Greenhills Promenade Mall while waiting for Jason’s mom.

Much to our delight, it was a buy 1 take 1 Ramen Monday night! At Php 320, we can enjoy 2 bowlfuls of yummy YUMI Ramen. One quality bowl of Ramen then would just cost Php 160. The last time I ate this one hundred plus worth of Ramen was in Tamagoya just nearby (Marikina area), so we were very much pleased to have this in a farther place from ours.

Buta Miso Ramen (Php 320)

This hot soup was very much welcome in the cold February climate. The flavor of the soup wasn’t too strong that I had my noodles traded for Jason’s soup. Hehe. Their ramen was quality ramen as the noodles were just right and the choice toppings were above average. I’d like to have this again… on a Monday night. :)

2015-02-16 19.52.24

We also got their Sake Sashimi (Php 265), one of our favorites in general as we’d usually have this whenever we go to Japanese restaurants (aside from Gyoza).

2015-02-16 20.33.47

Of course I wouldn’t pass up the chance to have this green tea flavored ice cream for free. Yey. What a treat on a Monday night! We got discounted ramen and free ice cream to cap off our Japanese dinner.

We found out that there are other promos from Monday – Wednesday too! But as we’re not much of rice nor tempura eaters, we’ll stick to this good deal of ramen thank you! :)

When I love a place, I don't care how many times I visit it. Such is the case of YUMI!
Along with blogger friends, I was invited to checkout this new place just above Munchtown in the new part of Promenade in Greenhills.
That was a Thursday, and in the same week, I went back with my family just so that I could treat them to a hearty Japanese Lunch. Anyway....
The place looks inviting and stylish.

I think Yumi might have been an awesome girl as her picture is all around the place. Kidding aside, I know I was in for a treat, as I usually see this place full with patrons. And the ambiance is just chill.

To start things off, we were served some Amuse-Bouche.

This particular appetizer was also served during my family's visit. Its basically, kani crabstick with a touch of lemon. Something to start off.
I was actually dumbfounded when the Chirashi was served. It was my first time to actually try it out. Chirashi or Chirashizushi means scattered. In this case, it was scattered sushi on top of sushi rice.
There were 4 new Chirashi on Yumi's Menu.
The first one was the CHIRASHI TEKKA(390Php).

Maguro, quail egg, oborro, kampyo, rice.
Next up is the CHIRASHI IKURA TOKUJI (470 Php)

Salmon roe, uni, ebiko, kani, tamago, ika, rice.
The most colorful and "complete" is the CHIRASHI MORIAWASE(490Php)

The last one but my favorite would be the CHIRASHI IKURA SAKE(450Php)

Salmon Roe, sake, Ebiko, kani, tamago, rice.
When I returned with my family, I also got this for myself as I loved it the first time I tried it.

One thing that I must insist you try doing is to mix up all the stuff in the bowl. The salmon roe and the tamago goes hand in hand that creates that awesome contrasting but harmonious flavor. How? Well, its like this. The salmon roe gives off that sea flavor. Salty at its finest. The Tamago or the egg is a little sweet. So they fight it all inside your mouth and the experience is wonderful!

Another play of flavors would be the UNAGI FOIE GRAS SUSHI (350Php)

If you are into foie gras and unagi, you must not miss this. Different texture lights up your mouth!
The SYMPHONY (380Php) was a little too hot for me.

This is a mix of fried sushi rice with layers of spicy tuna, salmon and crabsticks.
Two new menu items they have would be the MAGURO and SAKE SASHIMI in CHILLED LIGHT SHOYU SAUCE (320Php each)

Yellow fin tuna or Superior grade Norwegian Salmnon in chilled light soy sauce.

The SAKE SUSHI BALL (205Php) is for all those salmon lovers out there.

Another crowd favorite was the HIYASHI CHUKA SALAD RAMEN (275Php)

Cold noodles, cucumber, crab sticks with sesame dressing.

Another crowd favorite which was deliberately na-MAFIA!!! (joke) was the TEPPAN GRILLED US TENDERLOIN with FOIE GRAS (775Php).

This my friend is amazing stuff!!!! If you love the buttery feel of the foie gras and the tenderness of the meat well you my friend will be in heaven!

I didn't know how this got in the fray but someone ordered the HAMACHI CARPACCIO (490Php)

Thinly sliced yellow tail with extra virgin olive oil and lemon zest. Something to wake you up.

When my family and I returned the Saturday after, we were able to try other dishes.
Along side with the Amuse-Bouche, we were served miso soup that came with our chosen meals.

Who could say no to hot soup!
We also got the EBI TEMPURA (395Php)!

We actually got this during the Thursday meal but I could stop myself as I get addicted to ebi tempura quite easily!

To differentiate itself from other Japanese restaurant, they serve an alternative sauce to the usual we all know. They have lemon and 2 kinds of salt. Green tea salt and volcanic salt.

You dip it on the squeezed lemon juice and batter it with the volcanic salt and matcha salt.

Actually, I couldn't decide as to which to pick so I did what any guy would. Dip it in all the sauce to get all the flavors in!

My mom and bro had the bento box each.
Each bento box is served with Cabbage salad, sake and maguro, 2pcs of gyoza and of course miso soup.

The gyoza were light. The salad was basically sesame based.

Since my bro was a meat lover, he had the US TENDERLOIN TEPPAN BENTO (450Php)

The meat was tender and properly cooked!!! Just as what you would expect from an awesome Japanese resto!
Mom, on the other hand, had the CHICKEN TERIYAKI BENTO (375Php).

My bro and mom loved the texture. The skin was crunchy while the meat was soft and wet. YUMMY!
She also wanted something hot so she got the BUTA MISO RAMEN (320Php)

It was a bit normal for her so we weren't able to finish it.

I let my bro and mom try out the cold noodles. (HIYASHI CHUKA SALAD RAMEN (275Php)) They mentioned that it somewhat tasted like peanut butter.

I guess its really with what you are familiar with as it was made with sesame dressing.

Here are a few things that I gathered, there is free wifi so no worries about staying connected. If you have an instagram or facebook, you could get a free ice cream just by sharing their new dishes.

Also, they have an awesome drink list and that is by far affordable in this part of town. Around 70Php average on happy hour 2-8pm daily. and last but not the least their buy 1 take one days!, every Mondays, they got buy 1 take one on Ramens and every Tuesday, they have buy 1 take one on their sushi!! What a steal right?!!!

Budget around 400-500 Php per person. You can go there and be as casual as you can be! As for me, I would definitely go back!

Yumi left us with a great impression. Who would have imagined that we will get a buy-one-take-one deal right of the bat. But it is only limited for their ramen selection, who am I to complain, the magic word is FREE :)

I love how Yumi's menu format. It shows you all the dishes that they have in full color, this is very helpful for first timers like ourselves and if pictures are not enough, you can always ask their friendly crew, which is by the way very friendly and knowledgeable of the ingredients that they use.

What we ordered were Shoyu Tofu Ramen and Rainbow Maki. We were also served an appetizer, but I cannot recall what they call it, but it some sort of bite sized salad :). The ramen is as good as the pictures in the menu. The combination of tofu and beef is very mouth watering and the thick flavorful soup is like no other. It is very tempting to order another one if we were allowed to :). For the Rainbow Maki, you would really taste the salmon and mackarel combination with a swirl of mango cheese sauce. We wanted more, as 6 pieces is not just enough.

If you wanted a Japanese / Asian treat, Yumi is a great place to be in.

Yumi is now part of my favorite japanese restaurants in town. They got good food, generous serving and good service. Their dishes are not just beautifully plated but are delicious also. Their chicken teriyaki and Ebi tempura taste good. They have a good take on popular japanese dishes. What really got our attention as well as our tastebuds is their "tori chisu Maki" it's cheese filled chicken presented jist like other maki. It's so good that we ordered for 4 servings each with 6pcs tori chisu maki. The place is really a must-try.

Yumi is one of the new restaurants in Greenhills Atmos. Yumi is a typical Japanese Restaurant that will surely make your tummy HAPPY!

Their dishes are affordable given the fact that everything tasted great and of course, service and ambiance is perfect!

The dishes that we ordered are:
Sake Sashimi in Chilled Light Shoyu Sauce Php 320
Although i expected something different, this dish isn't so bad. I actually enjoyed this dish because it's not your usual sashimi.

Tori Kuwayaki Php 320
Deep fried chicken with teriyaki sauce

Gyudon Php 240

Chicken Teriyaki

Butah Ramen
I enjoyed this ramen so much!

Symphony Php 380
Fried sushi rice with layers of spicy tuna, spicy salmon and crab sticks
I can say that this is one of the best dishes i've ever eaten!

I can't wait to eat in Yumi again!!

I have to admit that this restaurant showed a lot of potential when my friends and I checked it out! Although located inconveniently on top of another restaurant, Yumi indeed serves some unique and amazing dishes such as the Symphony, Tori Kuwayaki and Sashimi with Foie Gras!

Admittedly as well, there were mediocre dishes such as the Tonkatsu and Sake Sushi Balls, but they still passed the taste test (i.e. not bad enough to impugn the greatness of the dining experience).

Again, try the Symphony! It is the one that shined among all those we ordered.
