So glad and privileged I was able to feast on several delicious offerings of Gloria Maria Greenhills as they officially joined the Choi Garden family. Everything as in everything was perfectly cooked (tender beef and lamb, crispy duck and pork skin) and seasoned (from the soup to the meats and even rice and noodles).

You can really tell that Gloria Maris uses quality ingredients and the chefs are experienced and skilled. As simple as the Dimsum Trio of hakaw, siomai and egg tart may be, it was uber good!!! It made my tummy giddy and I wish I could have had more although that wouldn’t be such a good ideas as towards the end of the Lauriat, I was too full already LOL. The dimsum was plump, filling to wrapper ratio was perfect and it was fresh while the egg tart was heavenly.

That’s just the dimsum, the mains were even better. My top favorite of course would be the Peking Duck wrap! Oh so sinfully crisp and juicy Peking Duck skin in a Chinese pancake with cucumber, chives and hoisin - perfect! Then the Wagyu Beef in Black Pepper Sauce comes second as it was so tender and tasty, I really enjoyed it a lot. Equally good was the Lechon Macau/ Kawali with crunchy skin and tender meat, I’m running out of adjectives because again it was good / delicious.

I was surprised that they served Lamb Chops, it’s my first time to try Lamb Chops at a Chinese restaurant or as part of a Lauriat and to be honest, I’m not a fan of lamb in general. But when I tried their pan-fried Lamb Chops with mint jelly, it was (again) tender and perfectly cooked and I was surprised that I enjoyed it. I imagine people who love lamb will enjoy it even more than I did.

By the way, the meal started off with a two toned almond and pumpkin seafood soup and it was indeed a great start to one of the best meals I’ve had. The soup was creamy and had chunks of seafood. Even the presentation was a delight (see photo), it was in a big bowl with the 2 colors equally split and when the server scooped it onto our individual cups, it still maintained the two toned effect!

2 more dishes that stood out for me were the spinach bean curd with sauce and the mini taro basket with scallop and prawn. I wouldn’t mind eating these healthier dishes everyday if I could.

There were more dishes that were served but I think you get the picture, it was truly an enjoyable and satisfying meal. Thank you Gloria Maris for preparing and allowing us to sample this amazing feast!

P.S. We were seated in one of the function rooms and it was so cool that each corner of the room (since it was 4 mini rooms combined into 1) had their own clean and spacious comfort room, so convenient.

Food is really good, they have a lot of innovations for Chinese cuisines, service is really slow compared to the main branch in Pasay, also their 50% promo is not really a promo since the mark up is to high compared to the main branch in Pasay. Overall experience is ok but if you want more fine dining feels I suggest the best place is the main branch

I still regard this as the best of best (so does most filchis in the metro I bet). You come here not for something new or something exciting but rather for its consistency, predictability, and something that just says you're home. The place has only gotten better in time especially after its recent renovation about 10 years ago.

Food is still the same and you'll definitely have to spend a lot for the quality picks. If there's anything I need to complain about is how poorly lit the area is especially the dimsum and hotpot areas. Also there's something about their ageing hotpot booths, the cushions just aren't befitting for the bill you'll pay for afterwards. I

Had dinner here for my Mom’s birthday and it was still very consistent. The peking duck and the rest of what we had was all on point.I like the odea that they offer half a duck so that small groups can still
Have it and not forced to order a whole one.
There was a debut that was eating up about half of the space and it was noisy & we asked the staff to transfer us to the dimsum area.We got to enjoy the food better without the noise.

One of the best restos in town for Chinese family gathering. We celebrated my parents birthday here on a lovely Sunday lunch. Love the peking duck, lapu-lapu, and taro soup however dont order the lohan veggie or the chicken and mushroom for a gathering unless kayo kayo lang or konti lang kayo. We didnt touch it as much since we were full na.

*PS. better if you are here during the weekdays. They got 50% off for bdo creditcard users.

Definitely one of the pillars of Chinese Dining. They elevated the ambience with their big chandeliers and hotel like furnitures. You will still hear the familiar noisy chatter of a Chinese resto. Highly recommend all dishes, but very memorable for me was their salted fish fried rice, we were a group of 5 people, 4 senior, all ladies, and we ended up finishing 3 orders!

The ambience was relaxed and the service quite good. The waiters are attentive and the order taker (diane) is very polite and accomodating. 👏The superior sharks fin soup was delicious just that we saw a small hair in it 🤢. The taro basket with scallop & shrimp was good too but it would be better if the taro wasnt so oily. The geoduck sashimi would taste better if squeezed with lots of calamansi, if not, it has this little scent of fishiness. The crab with eggwhite would be better if there were more crab meats. The tofu w/scallop&mushrooms was good. They gave us free dessert the mango.sago and buchi was yum. I would definetly come.back esp.if its promo.period for credit cards. Its so worth it.

The ambiance is typical chinese setting with a little modern touch. The place is well maintained, big and can cater to big groups. This is always on our list when we are craving for dimsum and shabu shabu. Seafoods and vegetable was very fresh. The choice of items for the soup is excellent. The dimsum are always the best and i encourage everyone to try the prawn salad which is my all time favorite.

Staff are polite and attentive to their diners. Service is quite fast and everyone is always ready to assist you. For special private gatherings, VIP Rooms are available and located at the Mezzanine level.

Overall, highly recommended for great chinese food if you're willing to splurge because food is a bit expensive.

Good food . Place was big . I was with the management team and we ordered a lot . Big serving I should say . Though I haven’t really tasted a real authentic Chinese food, I think Gloria Maris is almost “authentic” . I don’t know if that makes . There’s a lot of food in the
Menu where you can choose from .

Gloria Maris in Greenhills is one of the few Chinese restaurant I'd go to outside of Binondo.

The dishes I usually order here are ..

Soups -
Hot & sour soup
Fish Lip Soup
Seafood Spinach Soup

Seafood -
Steamed Suahe - really fresh!
Steamed Lapu-Lapu
braised abalone with sea cucumber,
prawn fruit salad,

Poultry -
Peking duck 2-ways
Fred Pigeon

Birthday Noodles
Yang Chow Fried Rice
Almond Jelly
Mango Sago

Gloria Maris looks so grand and classy. But it easily gets full especially on Sundays. So it's best to get a reservation. The VIP rooms at the mezzanine floor feels very exclusive. So if you are a big group, try to get your own VIP room for privacy because the main dining room feels chaotic sometimes.

Best place for shabu shabu. broths are savory and balls are meaty and not just those that can be bought in supermarkets. Meat and veggies are also fresh. U also get to mix and match ur own sauce which is refillable. Although a bit pricey, I think you get your money’s worth!

Pre wedding family dinner. The VIP room set the perfect scene for what was going to be a loud family gathering with great food.

All the dishes were relatively good. But the star of the show was a wonderful pumpkin and almond seafood soup. I know it doesn’t sound right. But it was good . Presented in a beautiful Yin Yang design,

Services was okay. They were a bit slow that night but were really friendly.

Their fine dining here is two floors and I love it. Red carpet and everything. For their name, Shark’s Fin Restaurant, the Soup is a signature hit here. Great for family gatherings and parties. Little pricey for a table but for 12 persons, the food line up is totally worth it.

Food was superb as expected. We loved everything we were served.

Air conditioning were opened exactly at the time of the event so we had to wait a bit for the temperature to go down.

When we arrived, we didn’t immediately see any signs where we should go, we weren’t that familiar so we didn’t immediately know we were supposed to proceed to the 2nd floor. No one manning the reception and quite a hard time to find someone to ask (we ended up asking one of the waiters that was still off duty, I guess since he was not yet in his uniform). Upon reaching the 2nd floor it was better since there were signages already on which party to go to.

At this point, you know the legend that is Gloria Maris, the absolute go to Chinese banquet restaurant in Manila. This is where all important Chinese occasions happen and it's still got the most reliable Chinese food there is for a large group. Many private rooms, areas big enough for weddings make this the prime events place. You should already know what to eat here, but for the uninitiated, just make sure you give their salted egg crabs a go.

A solid and very consistent Chinese restaurant...

You know the feeling of ordering a beloved dish at a restaurant and when you bite into it, you realize that it tastes different? It is soooo disappointing when that happens. Over the years, I have experienced that feeling in certain long standing restaurants. Never at Gloria Maris though.

This restaurant has delivered consistent Chinese dishes ever since, which I really appreciate. You know exactly what your order will taste like. This visit was no different and our family ordered staples like the yang chow fried rice, hot and sour soup, assorted dimsum platter, lemon chicken, sweet & sour pork, and the peking duck two ways. Everything is served fast, piping hot and with generous servings. Dessert is always the buchi, mango pudding or almond lychee. Light way to end the meal.

It is a great place for family gatherings and celebrations. The fact that it is always full is a testament to that. Servers are curt, not too friendly, but extremely efficient. Surroundings are fine. You get great value for money. Still the best traditional Chinese restaurant for me.

P.S.
The pics came first, as usual...

We were invited for a Chinese feast to celebrate my uncle's birthday. Food was served family style and the dishes were served one at a time. We had no idea what the family ordered. The anticipation was killing me but it was actually fun guessing what the dishes were.

My favorites
🔹Salted Egg Crab - I need practice eating crabs. It was quite challenging but I was able to scoop out most of the meat after cracking some of the shells. Loved the flavor of the salted eggs but I think it would have been better as a sauce where I could dip the crab meat.
🔹Duck served 2 ways - i liked the crispy minced duck that was served with lettuce. It was so addicting and I even ate it with just the Fried Rice. I had the duck meat and skin with hoisin sauce rolled in the thin wrapper. I also ate just the meat and skin with Fried Rice.
🔹Hot Salad - The prawns had a light crunch. Loved how it tasted with the sweet mayo. I enjoyed how big the curled up prawns were.
🔹Mango Sago - like drinking mango shake minus the ice
🔹Fish - It didn't look that appetizing but it was soft and fresh. The sauce was great.

Service, like my other visits, could still be improved on. It takes a while for them to bring our requests and you really need to call their attention. I wish they conversed more and explained what dishes or at least the name of the dish they were plopping onto that giant lazy susan.

I had an awesome time with the fam bam with delicious overflowing food.

This biggest restaurant can house three weddings at at time and actually has three segments- dimsum, hot pot and fine dining. I am here for two good friends wedding and they hosted more than 50 tables.

Like almost all lauriats do, we jump started this 12 dish stretch with fine cold cuts of steamed chicken, rich flavored asado, crunchy pork belly and slimy seaweeds. This big platter got wiped out quickly.

Two Tone Seafood Soup was quite a site. A yin yang look was interesting as it tasted. The orange side was thick with rough texture while the white smooth and rather creamy. Now this was a welcome look from this tradition.

My favorite here was their Fried Pigeons. It was a bit greasy but way too tasty to notice that. I think I had 6 slices of this finely prepared meat. Besides having this poultry is a rare thing.

Steamed Lapu Lapu was another sensational dish. This fresh fish was well seasoned, its meat falls of the bone very easily. It's almost automatic to have this on your lauriat.

We also had Salted Egg Crab. The presence of salty egg was felt but would have been better if served sauce style than fried in. Flavor could have penetrated better.

For desserts, I enjoyed the Malayco or their version of puto. Its soft and sweetened perfectly. The other two we had, Coffee Jelly and Hot Taro Sago was a miss.

We were celebrating my dad's birthday and decided to eat at Gloria Maris fine dining restaurant in Greenhills because you get 50% off (for a max discount of P5,000.00) when you use your metrobank platinum card.

Anyway, we ordered set 1 from their lauriat menu. It costs P15,800.00++. There was cold cuts combo, soup, steamed fish, crabs, prawns with garlic, rainbow meatballs (surprisingly yummy!), patatim, and fried chicken.

I initially ordered beef balls because I was really craving for it. But had to cancel because the rainbow meatballs was already very yummy. And i think healthier because it had a lot of vegetables in it.

Their crabs and prawns were very sweet. You can really taste the freshness.

I think the steamed fish was a tad overcooked (it was a little gummy). I didnt like the crispy fried chicken at all. It tasted a little weird to me.

We also got free yang chow fried rice, buchi (loved it) and almond lychee.

It was a little pricey but there were 15 of us i think so it was okay.

I am used to eating Chinese lauriat; in fact my whole life I am regularly eating Chinese lauriat. Just this year (2016) I have eaten Chinese lauriat four times already and February isn't even halfway done. The 8-10 course lauriat meal is usually served during special occasions like Christmas, New Year, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and other big events. Lauriat actually comes from the hokkien word "lao diat" which means special occasion. Lauriat is how it is commonly called but in Chinese families we call it "pan toh" (literally meaning serve table).

The first thing that you should know about Gloria Maris is that the one in Greenhills is different from all the other Gloria Maris that you can find. Yes, same name, same logo, but different food quality and overall ambiance. Gloria Maris ambiance. Gloria Maris reserved area. The one that I was got invited to (c/o Allen, of course), luckily, was the Gloria Maris located in Greenhills. From the outside, I was amazed on how huge it is. When I got inside, whoah, jaw-drop. They have fine dining, dimsum, and hotpot sections. It was a huge area yet almost occupied by customers. The reserved area is a different story. Less people but very spacious. There were these amazing shimmering chandeliers and a grand staircase. Felt like a princess going down that stairs.

Gloria Maris Shark's Fin Restaurant is this famous restaurant in Greenhills that generated a number of loyal patrons and customers from the Chinese community. And now, they decided to expand and relocate to a bigger place and accommodate a bigger and wider market of foodies both from the Chinese and non-Chinese community.

It's been a while since my last visit, but my favorites here are the Fried Crab with Salted Egg, Peking Chicken Salad, and Scallop and Shell Meat with French Beans and Radish.

Had a mini-reunion with highschool friends over lunch on a Chinese New Year. As expected, the place is packed. We made a reservation (a must on peak meal hours, holidays, and weekends) and were seated at the main dining hall of round tables for 10.
The place was filled with people wearing red (for good luck on Chinese new year) that matches the red table cloth.
We arrived at 11:30am, nobody was manning the receptiom area so we had to find our table by ourselves. Took a couple of calls to the waiters before a Chinese lady finally came to take our orders. We understand it's a peak day so we kept our cool. Adamant to enjoy the gathering and the food we'll order.
The waiters and staff must have had a terribly busy day the night beforw Chinese New Ywar that most of them seem to be clueless as to what they are doing in a very crowded reataurant filled with hungry and growing impatient customers.
Our meals were served after quite a long wait (at nearly 1pm...after 3 refills of hot house tea to calm down our growling stomachs) and in all fairness, they taste very satisfactory (especially that we"re starving).
In the middle of our lunch was an in-house dragon dance which brought added enjoyment to our sumptuous lunch. Getting the bill at past 2pm also required a lot of patience.
Over all, the selecrion of chinese food is wide, taste and quality of meals are good, the ambiance okay, the staff were okay too...meals were pricey and though parking's a challenge, it's an ideal place for family lunch and reunions.
Maybe we would come back again, next time though, we"ll pick an ordinary day so we could stress-freely enjoy the other meals they offer.

Really appreciate it when an establishment takes that extra effort to uplift it image. Nowadays, you have to keep rebranding to keep up with the trends. Gloria Maris did just that it's fine dining restaurant.
This branch is considered under fine dining that serves delicious food. It offers a lot of authentic chinese cuisine Chefs from China. We arrived just after attending the mass. We came first to the area where hot pot and dimsum were located, and to our surprised that there was a long queue for dinner at Dimsum area. We approached the staff to inquire and there you go.. we were headed to the fine dining area.
The venue is really spacious, separated from Dimsum and Hotpot. The staff who assisted us with our orders are very courteous, kind and with all smiles. They provided the food promptly and yes, I was surprised that it all exceeded my expectation and suited for a fine dining. The pork was tender, juicy and saucy. The taro puff with shrimps are the best. We actually love everything from the ambiance, staffs, every single detail of the food is delectable and savory.
I once searched that when you are in fine dining, you can cross order to Dimsum and hot pot.
We are really coming back for more dishes. It is highly recommendable.

When I was a kid, we usually hold our family meetings and occasions here, and up until now we mostly likely to frequent this place.

The old Gloria Maris located just in front of Unimart before has the best interior then. I would usually walk their spiral staircase feeling like a princess and also because of the ambiance. I just everything about it, those were the times, yep! 🌸

While the newly located and renovated Gloria Maris along Connecticut Road.. I guess, they never get old. Improved and better version of the old one, definitely and while the food was always good in all way. Especially their Dimsum and Seafood, yum! 👌

Had late lunch with the family and my aunt's friend here today before going shopping.

We decided to order their famous yang chow and pancit, camaron rebusado, sweet and sour pork, peking duck (two ways). Well, those are the things I remember because those are the things I really liked.

Their pancit was a tad bit bland for me, but my mom and my uncle loved it. It was saucy and the noodles were cooked perfectly: not mushy and stuff.

There's a reason why I always order sweet and sour pork when we eat in a Chinese restaurant: to compare it with my mom's and with the other restaurants. I love how crisp the pork is and how the sauce makes it tastier. This might just be the best (next to my mom's) sweet and sour pork in town!

One of the things I hated was that the staff asks you if you want fine dining or shabu-shabu and yet, they don't have enough "clean" tables for fine diners. I mean, shouldn't they keep the unoccupied tables clean for customers? They had to clean it after we were seated! And my uncle asked the server if he could have kinilaw na suahe since he saw fresh shrimp. The waiter said yes, but when one of the staff took our order and he ordered the kinilaw, the staff said: "Walang kilaw." Why would you say "yes" when you know you can't serve it to customers? 😞

There's a wide variety of Chinese dishes and platters, and a lot of yummy dimsum here too! The dim sum platter is so good. Aside from this, the Beef Brocolli, Sweet and Sour Pork, and fish dishes are good too. It's the perfect place to dine with here family, especially if you're in for a big meal!

There are a wide range of hotpot to choose from meats of chicken, beef, pork and lamb and seafood. There are even balls of meat available. For vegetables, there's the leafy green ones to eggs, mushrooms and noodles.

To cut the tedious process of selecting short, chose from their New Choices: Assorted Combination for 4 Persons- Php 1,925. Except for the pictures, it doesn't say on the menu what to expect but here's what I can remember of it: balls of meat, sliced meats, a few sticks of prawns, sliced squid, crabsticks and even sea cucumber which was rubbery but good. The veggie pot has brocolli, Chinese pechay, cabbages, corn, tofu, sotanghon even mushrooms and beancurd skin. The skin has a very interesting texture.

I mentioned that staff are very accomodating. But just too sad that it came too much that the staff who was serving us dumped everything in the hotpot. Chinese would say they don't know how to cook authentic hot pot.

First off, especially for the meats since it's thinly sliced, it should be cooked a few seconds only and you have to wiggle or dip in and out it of the soup. So, second, we don't know which is which then after. A hullabaloo then of meats.

Anyhow, for the dimsum, had Baked Pork Buns at Php 175. It's yummy it crumbles to bits especially when hot. Also had Hakaw at Php 175 and the shrimp was heavenly. Sharksfin Siomai at Php 170 also curb our hunger for a while. And the highlight of our dimsum was the Peking Duck 1/4- ~Php 1,500. Whole was about Php 3,000. Their glazed Peking Duck was sweet and tasty.

Here are some of my tips:

- Select each for the hotpot if possible. Though tedious, you can have control of which you like. Although if pre-chosen such as in the combination, might find a good pick just like the beancurd skin and sea cucumber.

- No to chicken. It got weird for me the chicken. I cannot remember eating one almost as is.

- Go for beef and cook them just in a few seconds.

Enjoy eating,

We've been eating here since I was just a little girl. I love this place, never failed to impress me! We eat here for almost every occasion and the fact that I never once got tired of their food is a true testament to the flavors of their food. Btw, since relocating, the ambiance just got way better! :)

Everytime a relative will have their birthday, Gloria Maris is one of the choices to celebrate it. I love their food, though it's really jampacked especially on weekends.

the ala carte and private room dinning of this Gloria maris branch at greenhills is outstanding, they have kept their recipe well since the 1980s at the back of CCP, what i also like is the ambiance of this majestic restaurant, the arrays and design of rooms upstairs, and their service, the lapu lapu steamed and de boned, peking duck and suckling pork which we really gauge it is more than average bordering exquisite taste, what i feel disappointed is  the lobster salad too fruity, less lobster meat,

If they tell you all Gloria Maris restaurants are created equal, you're being lied to. Thanks to a large Chinese community in greenhills this branch is always kept on it toes by a demanding crowd that knows its food :)

Gloria Maris is one of the top choices of Chinese families for special occasions. Like any other Chinese families, my family loves to go to Gloria Maris when we have family gatherings. Ever since i was small, i remember going in and out of this restaurant for different occasions. Today is not a different story. We had a first birthday party celebration there and had the typical dishes we order there. Although not everything we ordered is yummy for me, but i always love going to Gloria Maris for celebrations like this. We had a great host and we had fun games which i really enjoyed. I also saw new dishes like the abalone with sea cucumber, two-tone soup, jelly fish salad, something that looks like a big xiao long bao, and the almond yogurt with lychee dessert. Not everybody will appreciate the dishes served there, but some will appreciate it. I personally do not like the sea cucumber because it didn't taste like anything. Although i was forced to eat it because my grandmother said that it is good for the bones or something like that.

But overall, Gloria Maris is and will forever be one of my favorite Chinese restaurants.

It was my first time to step inside the fairly new massive property of Gloria Maris, albeit I've seen it during the rare times I was in Greenhills. From the outside, its size already gives you an idea of how big the whole place is, but until you find yourself in the middle of the dining hall, your eyes crawling up the grand spiral staircase, and finally staring up at the high ceiling, you wouldn't realize just how big---and impressive---is big.

How big is big? It's actually about 7,500 square meters of dining halls on the ground floor, private VIP function rooms on the mezzanine level, and a banquet hall on the second floor. Just to give you an idea -- it has its own set of elevators! As I took the elevator, and sauntered past hallway after hallway of function rooms, I felt like I was in a Korean drama -- the only place where I've seen restaurants this huge.

I finally found our VIP room, and when everybody had arrived, we started our feast with this wooden dragon boat of Abalone Sashimi. The entrance was dramatic as smoke (dry ice, naturally) poured out from every side. The fresh abalone in itself was expectedly bland, but dip it into the accompanying creamy wasabi mayo and it transforms into one stellar bite. The heat wasn't as harsh as a regular wasabi's, and you could also opt to dip it into the soy sauce on the side.

It was pretty unusual to use strawberry sauce in a Chinese dish, orange would be a more common one. And yet, the Prawns and Pop Rice with Strawberry Sauce worked perfectly well with the succulent prawns atop a bed of crispy rice. The fresh strawberry bits even lent a bit of tartness that was well received.

Veering from the usual platter of cold cuts, the Chiu Chow Cold Cuts consists of crisp enoki mushrooms, bacon rolls, crisp pork belly, roast duck (?), and california maki. Even though I love the century egg/jellyfish combo, this one was quite a treat, too. I enjoyed every single element, and kept switching back and forth to each piece, unable to have just one favorite.

Tone Almond Seafood Pumpkin Soup

The Yin Yang design was a nice touch. Much nicer was the Pumpkin portion of the soup. Creamy and hearty, the pumpkin taste was so distinct, yet at times it also felt like eating egg yolks. The almond flavor, on the other hand, was lost on me. No matter, the whole thing was simply so good, I kept mopping my bowl down to the last drop.

Scallop and Shell Meat with French Beans and Raddish

Their dishes are definitely a feast for the eyes as well. The fresh, succulent scallops rest on a bed of french beans and raddish. Meanwhile, a small orange dragon sculpture (as we will see in more of their plates) provides a nice, dramatic backdrop.

Peking Chicken Salad

Another favorite was the Peking Chicken salad, which I first thought was Peking Duck. It had the same delicate crisp skin with a very thin layer of fat, and a layer of white chicken meat atop a crunchy version of mantou (steamed bun). Another pile of shredded Peking Chicken concealed a heap of crabstick salad, which I loved. The whole dish's parameter was even decorated with artfully sliced strawberries, melons and kiwis. Pair this with champagne, and fall in love with every forkful.

Steamed Lapu-Lapu Fillet with Egg White

I'm not a fish person, the only fish I eat can be counted on one hand. Let's see, there's salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, cream dory, fried tilapia, and boneless bangus. So it doesn't come as a surprise that I lacked such appreciation for this dish. The flavor was light and clean, and almost everyone else loved it, though.

Fried Crab with Salted Egg

I usually steer away from crabs since they're pretty hard to tinker with. I like the soft-shelled ones just so I can directly eat it without any hassle. Still, I managed to taste this fried one with salted egg, and flavor-wise, it was indeed good. The white crabmeat was tasty, made more so by the salted egg flavor that clings to it.

Marshmallow Pastries

I don't have a particular proclivity for grated coconut on pastries, and would have preferred to have the bunny slipper-shaped marshmallows plain. Underneath was a tart that cocooned a sweet filling reminiscent of monggo-flavored hopia.

Jumbo Buchi

I had to laugh as soon as I bit into this buchi on steroids. When I was a kid, I hated buchi, or rather, I hated the sticky stuff inside it. This would have made me happy, as it had nothing but air inside.

Taho

I love Gloria Maris' taho, and missed it for a while now. Imagine our delight when they served us that as well. Silky tofu, sweet syrup and sago pearls stared back at me before I mixed them all up and had my fill. A deliciously sweet concoction slowly lined my throat as I escorted spoonful after spoonful into my mouth.

Loved the Peking Chicken Salad chased by champagne.

It's nice to know Gloria Maris offers far more lovely dishes than the usual Chinese fare. I'll be going back for the Abalone Sashimi, Prawns with Strawberry Sauce, Chiu Chow Cold Cuts, Pumpkin Soup, Peking Chicken Salad and of course, Taho. I think I'll even order my all-time Gloria Maris favorite again -- the Hot Prawn Salad.

Oh, and by the way, in celebration of this branch's 1st Anniversary, Gloria Maris offers 30% off your food bill for a minimum spend of Php 1,000 (cash or credit card payments), with a maximum discount of Php 8,000 per table. This offer is available from Mondays to Fridays until July 31, 2013, except during holidays.

GLORIA MARIS Restaurant, specifically the one in Greenhills, is our all-time favorite go-to place for authentic Cantonese food in Manila since 1995. My wife's Chinese family likes holding their special celebrations here, and I love the yummy consistency of their food every single time.

Last year, Gloria Maris moved to a new location with an impressive fine dining ambiance and an introduction of modern Cantonese cuisine to take the dining experience to a whole different level.

Here's our modern fine dining experience at Gloria Maris Greenhills:

Gloria Maris relocated to a bigger 7,500-sqm area along Missouri Street corner Connecticut. It is still beside the Greenhills Shopping Center near Promenade.

The restaurant is now divided into five areas:

The first area is the Hotpot Dining, located on the ground floor at the back of the building.
The second area is the Dimsum Dining Area, located on the ground floor in between the Hotpot area and the Fine Dining area.
Next is the Main Dining Room, which is the centerpiece of the restaurant, located on the ground floor. It has a high ceiling that's two storeys high and has a view of the grand staircase
It has a capacity of 40-45 lauriat tables with a lazy susan in the middle. It can fit up to 540 persons. It is open daily for lunch from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm and then dinner from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
The Banquet Hall is located on the second floor. With its hotel-like ambiance and great Chinese food, it is perfect for weddings and grand occasions.
It can hold three simultaneous functions, has a total capacity of 100 tables, and can accommodate up to 1200 persons
For intimate and special private gatherings, reserve one of the VIP Rooms located at the Mezzanine level.
The VIP area features 13 well-furnished rooms that can have up to nine tables in one room. A total of 300 persons can fit there.

We celebrated Father's Day there with my Dad and Dad-in-law, together with the boys.

Instead of ordering from the set menu, I suggest you assemble your own lauriat menu line-up. Here's what we like from the Gloria Maris Fine Dining choices and some tips on off-menu items:

APPETIZERS:
My favorite appetizer is the pickled young ginger with slices of century egg. The flavor contrast surprisingly works! :)
My next pick: the caramelized walnuts with sesame seeds.
You can also request for plain roasted nuts to jump-start your appetite.

DIMSUM:
Hakaw - Since cross-ordering from the Dimsum Menu is allowed, we like ordering hakaw for our matatakaw boys who can finish one basket each.
Shanghai Siao Long Pao - The siao long pao is also a good alternative with its yummy soup inside.

TIP: Make sure to order XO sauce with scallops and chili to enhance any dish. :)

SOUP:
You can choose from two cool soups that we like:
Two-Tone Almond Seafood Soup - The first one is almond soup with pumpkin, presented in a cool yin yang style.
Even when served, you can have the contrasting soup flavors with lots of seafood bits inside.

Boiled Whole Winter Melon Seafood Soup - For a healthier soup, order the winter melon soup that is served in an actual winter melon container. CREATIVE STARTERS:

CREATIVE APPETIZERS:
Chiu Chow Cold Cuts Combination - If you are tired of the usual Chinese cold cuts, try this modern version served with lechon kawali, duck slices, salmon sashimi, california maki and fried seaweed sashimi. I love combining them -- ex. seaweed sashimi plus the the duck slices.
Also, if you like the seaweed, you can request to replace the lechon kawali slices with it.

3 Kinds of Seafood - Eel with cider, Prawns with wasabi, Scallop with egg white.
If you have a smaller intimate group, I suggest this degustation-like serving of scallop, fried prawns, and eel. Each spoon is a flavorful interpretation and a teaser for more yummy food.

Duck with Fruits - For a modern Chinese salad, I suggest you order this. At first, it may seem like a weird hodgepodge of ingredients but once you mix it, the watermelon and mango flavors provide a refreshing twist to the sweet cream base with duck meat, balanced with the nuts.
Sarap! One of my interesting new discoveries. :)

Mini Taro with Prawns & Scallops - Here's a cool new interpretation of mini Taro baskets with plump fresh shrimp and scallops. We love the presentation of the mini-sculpture of a prosperity dragon made of salt alongside the mini-egg nests.
The taro is fried but not oily, and it's best eaten with its special sauce.

Patola Asst. Mushroom & Black Fungus with Shredded Dough Fried Taro Seafood - Here's another favorite of ours: Fried taro wrapped in fried fine noodles served with mushrooms.

TIP: It's best to order only 1-2 fried items in your lauriat menu so that it won't be as filling and nakakasuya.I like this soup because of its cleaner taste, generous amounts of seafood bits, and impressive presentation.

TIP: Consume the soup immediately after it is served. Best while it is hot!

MAIN DISHES:

Peking Duck 2 Ways - For special occasions, get the duck served in two ways. I love their Hong Kong duck, which is carefully cooked with the good layer of fat under the skin.
The first way is to slice the crispy skin and wrap it with vegetables and sweet hoisin sauce.
Each piece is flavorful with the crispy duck skin and a little bit of fat sweetened by the hoisin sauce.
The second way is usually diced duck meat with diced vegetables served on a cabbage and topped with a sweet sauce. I love the presentation with the sweet Tweety bird this time.

Pata Misua - My wife loves the usual Pata Tim, but this version is served with misua. This one is good if you like having a rich sauce with the soft pata meat.

Yang Chow Fried Rice - Their Yang Chow fried rice is a complete meal in itself. It has generous bits of meat and seafood. Make sure to order rice to pair with the meat dishes.

SEAFOOD MAIN DISHES:

Fried Lapu-Lapu with Noodles (P2,400 +10% service charge - Large, good for 12). I love having fish as part of the set menu, and I certainly recommend this. The bones and the skin are fried and served with steamed fish fillet pieces that you can eat with noodles.
I like the white egg sauce that you put on top of the fish meat. It's best eaten with a little bit of noodles and vegetables.
You can't go wrong with fresh seafood that is harvested and cooked upon order.

Steamed Flat Lobster with Garlic - For grand celebrations, you can order this flat lobster with fresh meat, served with soy garlic flavors.

Fried Crab with Salted Egg - For a more unique and indulgent treat, order this. It's the first time I've eaten fried crab with a salted egg coating. :) Sarap!
We couldn't help but eat every little bit of the crab, especially since it was so flavorful and not too salty.

Fried Prawns with Fish Fillet - If your group likes prawns, order this dish that has fried prawn heads with prawn meat and fish fillet. It was OK, but I couldn't quite understand why it was presented that way.

DESSERTS:
If you want your desserts to have a grand entrance, make sure to ask for them to be served on dry ice.

Buchi - The Buchi is served with heart-shaped Ube Gelatin on a bed of smoky dry ice.
The boys went crazy with the dry ice effect and couldn't get enough of the buchi as well. :)

Pumpkin Pie - Another wonderfully presented dessert is the pumpkin pie in the form of mini-pumpkins served also with dry ice. As for the taste, it gets mixed reactions because of the sweet lotus paste inside. Plus, it has a chewy, dimsum-like texture.

Birthday Lotus Pao - For birthday occasions, don't forget to order the lucky Birthday Paos.
The bread is really soft, shaped like a fortune cookie, with sweet lotus paste and a slice of fruit inside.

Mango Sago - Sometimes, the boys want to stick to their favorites, like this mango dessert with bits of sago.

Hot Taho - In almost every Gloria Maris visit, we make sure to order our most-loved dessert: assemble-your-own-taho.

Overall, I love the home-grown Cantonese yumminess of Gloria Maris and how it has been consistent with the same Hong Kong chefs over the years. I love the new Gloria Maris ambiance and the modern Cantonese dining menu.

We usually eat lauriat-style everytime there's a family celebration with my wife's family, and Gloria Maris still tops the list of Chinese Restaurants we have tried over the years in the metro.

Make sure to reserve one of the VIP rooms, to assemble your own lauriat menu, and to select the dishes with the cool presentation.

They are open all year round -- even on Christmas Day and Holy Week -- but don't forget to make reservations because they get FULL, especially during peak special occasions.

We ordered pata tim, fresh buko and dimsum platter at Gloria Maris. The food in this restaurant is mighty expensive but the taste would be worth it anyway. The cooking time is also long so you know they are really cooking it as you order. It would not be nice to let your customers eat old food.

There are a lot of Chinese restaurants and Gloria Maris is one of those restaurants that happen to be successful because of what they offer to the public. They really stand out in terms of the items in their menu.

Taho, a local snack made of silky tofu or bean curd with sago (mini tapioca pearls) and sweet caramelized sugar syrup, is an iconic and ubiquitous street hawker food that remains popular to this day. This popular comfort food traces its origins in Chinese influences, and has since become a mainstream favorite for generations. But catching a Taho vendor on the road is a hit or miss thing, so its really comforting to know you can have this treat at Gloria Maris anytime you want it.

The bean curd is smooth and served hot. Very comforting and familiar, the Taho or Tau Hue served at Gloria Maris is a delicious treat that brings back so many memories. One order is good for 2-3 servings. The Taho is served in a wooden tub, with small bowls containing the sago and sweet caramelized sugar syrup. The fun part is making your own bowl.

You can also find more traditional Chinese selections at Gloria Maris. I went for the Shrimp Dumpling Noodle Soup. Hearty and filling, nothing like a hot noodle soup. And yes, they do have a good dim sum selection as well, There's the Kutchay (Garlic Chive) dumpling with minced pork and vegetables. The Bird's Eye Dumpling with Shrimp and Asparagus. and the popular Prawn Dumpling.

Good Chinese food and excellent value for money. Plus, they serve Taho anytime you feel like it. Now that's pretty cool.

Gloria Maris is my husband's favorite casual Chinese restaurant. He usually gets sudden cravings for the classics like Sweet and Sour Fish, Yang Chow Fried Rice, Taro Dumplings, Birthday Noodles and Hakaw (shrimp dumpling) to name but a few and Gloria Maris delivers satisfaction every single time. This brand new location is huge and swanky in appearance, with elegant draperies, strategic lighting and an impressive wall of fish tanks for fresh seafood picks. But despite the amped up look, Gloria Maris serves comfort Chinese dishes that are consistently gratifying. Best visited with a group, dishes are meant to be shared. A dimsum cart usually goes around for some quick bites of Siomai (shrimp and pork dumpling), Chicken Feet, Kutchay Dumplings (vegetable) and more! Prices are very friendly, so it's fun to order a lot, but as much as we order, we always end up with clean plates and full tummies.
