I love their eat all you can promo! Imagine, for just 499, you can enjoy a wide variety of your favorite Japanese dishes. And what’s even better is that their food is good, so get value for your money. I particularly liked their tempura, california maki, ramen, kani salad and many more.
However, I hope they can improve their service and clean the place better.
For Japanese restaurants like this, Gyudon is always my safe choice. Tempura's Gyudon is good, while my dad had the Sukiyakidon. However, I find the 3-pc Ebi Tempura pricey at 195 pesos. Another reason why I only gave this a 3.5 instead of a perfect score is the banner outside which says Eat All You Can starts at 250 pesos. This actually refers to the kids promo. I thought there are different options for adults. Maybe they can do something about that so it won't be misleading.
As mentioned on our previous blog post, Congo Grille is set beside their sister company – TEMPURA Japanese Grill. The Japanese restaurant is known for Manila’s Best Tempura. But it does not end there because they also offer modern Japanese food that are are worth every peso. Earlier today, I was able to visit their newest branch at Visayas Avenue. Like Congo Grille, the Japanese restaurant also maximized their space. The chairs and tables are neatly-aligned giving enough path for the staff and diners. The place is also clean, well-lighted and ventilated. Their staff are courteous and attentive making our first visit a good one.
I got here around 12 noon on a rainy Friday to satisfy my craving for Sukiyaki but the plan has changed when the pleasant server handed me the menu for all-you-can-eat for only 499! I breathed heavily and performed mental math to compute if I'd be able to get the best value for this deal.
I ordered Ebi Tempura for my signature dish. The batter was too thick and oily so you may want to peel that off so you can make room for more food. It was also overcooked. I suggest you to avoid it.
Then tuna sushi arrived. They served me two pieces and it went down without a fight. It was okay, it tasted like how sushi should taste like. I went and rolled up my sleeve and proceed to slurp the miso bowl dry and asked for another because they got it right. I constantly remind myself that I made a promise not to leave this place without a victory belt. Here's the situation though... I was blindsided by Butashogayaki. This grilled pork was way too salty for me. Three tiny cups of hot tea made it edible.
On to my Yakitori. It was okay, but not their strongest point. It was too salty again. Good thing I only asked for a stick.
Kani salad was really, really good. It arrived in a tiny bowl so you can be sure that you'd be able finish one serving. I suggest you order it whenever you encounter something salty. Ask the lovely servers to go easy on the mayo.
All in all, I will come back to this place once I get that Japanese craving again.
Value for money, great service, quiet ambiance.
499php for unlimited food from their list except the signature dishes. From rice to iced tea to sushi to maki. If you want to add any signature dish, you'll add 99php per dish. Great for lunch and early dinner since their promo is from 11am-5pm. Don't go here if you're in a diet.
We used to eat in here since they had Thur unlimited food before but now they don't have it anymore. The food though was good and everything was fresh. From the tuna to the salmon to the eel. It was all good and clean. The rice they used for the make was good too! Hope to try their main dishes next time!
I was hungry and craving Japanese food so I decided to cross the street and try out the newly-opened Tempura at Visayas Avenue. For this meal, I decided on a tonkatsu bento box (diet be d@mned).
The miso soup was just right and full of seaweed and tofu, which I loved. I liked that they did not skimp on the ingredients. The kani salad was nice as well, although it had too much mayo. I liked that they heeded my request not to add any mangoes. They did the same with the california maki. Kudos to the staff!
It was a very filling meal but I should've asked for a crispy tonkasu without the egg and the sauce. My bad, but it tasted good just the same. The gyudon didn't break and had a nice crisp to it. The tamago and kani were a tad too cold but it's a minor thing. I like the fact that their staff was very attentive and alert. They deserve repeated visits (and I will try out their other dishes this time).
