This hidden gem in Ubay, somewhere in the Banawe district is a homerun. The place is hidden, not in th main Banawe food district, the place and interior is old but the food is outstanding. You must try the Deep Fried Squid, the MVP dish on our visit while the Szechuan Talong is the surprisr hit. Both are new to me and I was forced to eat lots of rice which is against my diet. The Toyo-Mansi Chicken and Grilled Liempo ar just 'ok' but the Halaan Soup is above par. There are few restaurants who offers halaan and we didn't waste anytime and included this to our order.
Great home cooked food! The service is fast and the staff is friendly. The best thing is that you can always order a lot and take some home for the next day! A good variety of filipino-chinese dishes, favorites are; grilled squid and the grilled liempo. Highly recommend this place, thank you!
Had lunch with the partner. Place is hidden along Ubay St. Street is tight. Parking is available on the property. We ordered the Kangkong and Grilled Liempo. Food was good and pricing is excellent. Seating was tight but manageable. Service was fast and efficient. Place was full, proof of diners' appreciation of the place.
Second visit. We ordered the Happy Lulu Rice, Sizzling Oysters, French Beans. All were very good. Service was fast. The place is still tight.
A hidden mini eatery in Banawe. It looks like a family home turned into a restaurant. So it feels like dining in your living room area with all these familiar Chinese figurines around.
Each serving is good for 3-4 pax. Good Chinese resto-level dishes priced at around 200+ each. They have a lot of menu to choose from and even menu for the day written on a small blackboard. Authentic Chinese dishes for a very budget-friendly price indeed!
Simple menu yet everything's so tasty! Quick and courteous service, affordable price, ample parking space and clean restroom. Definitely going back to try all their food. My favorite is their oyster cake, it's heavenly. Downside is, place is kind of small, so when all diners start talking, it's really very noisy and distracting.
It's like you are transported to Ancient China with Happy Lulu's restaurant setting, food, and ambiance. The food here tastes similar and reminiscent of my childhood memories and my grandmother's homecooking. Even my grandparents love this place. My favorites include the eggplants with szechuan sauce, and braised mameng fillets. (The ones in the claypots in the pictures) The sizzling oysters are also a delicacy. (My brother really loves these) The dishes taste really authentic, no wonder it is one of our favorite Banawe hole-in-the-wall spots. So, if you are craving for authentic Chinese comfort food that doesn't break the bank, then you should definitely give this place a shot. 👍
Other dishes in photos: Grilled Liempo, Lengua, and Baguio Beans with Minced Pork
The place to go for Chinese comfort food. Even if your grandma didn’t cook a similar dish as what you’ve ordered, the food will taste nostalgic.
For our dinner, we had grilled blue marlin, which was cooked in butter and garlic, was quite juicy and delicious. Grandma sure didn’t cook that.
Next thing we got was the Crab Fuyong. I would recommend the shrimp Fuyong more because you get the “shell” like bits along with the crab meat. Such a hassle to eat. I love the juicy egg though.
For my main meal, I ordered the Beef Tomato Rice bowl. Man tastes like my grandma’s cooking but she has never cooked it either. 😂😂 it has that distinct chinese beef tenderizer taste I’ve grown to love. Paired with the thick, goopy sauce. Divine creation. Nostalgic.
Would definitely come back for more.
We went here for lunch after visiting the dentist. This place is one of the most sought out places in Banawe, QC due to it’s quality food at an affordable rate.
We ordered the ff:
🍽 Yang Chow Fried Rice 3/5
- Nothing special, The serving is good enough for 3-4 people unless you’re a big eater.
🍽 Corn soup 3/5
- Just your average corn soup. The good thing is it isn’t “malabnaw” like other corn soups.
🍽 French Bean with Minced Pork 5/5
- This isn’t part of the menu they posted here in Zomato. It tastes really good and It would definitely make a Veggie hater want to eat greens.
🍽 Grilled Pusit 4/5
- The squid is cooked well but I expected more from the sauce and it didn’t meet my expectations. :( It tasted okay.
🍽 Crispy Shrimp
- I loved their Crispy Shrimp and their vinegar as “sawsawan” went well it.
⭐️ Banana Chocnut Turon
- THIS WAS MY FAVORITE!! It was my first time to try turon filled with banana and chocnut (dipped or not dipped in Vanilla ice cream, It’s up to you)
It tasted REALLY GOOD! It’s a must try!! :)
⚡️ Would I go back to eat here?
- Definitely! The price was just right for the quality and quantity of the food and their TURON is to die for!!! ❤️❤️
One of the best place to eat chicharon bulaklak. They also serve best fish dishes. Definitely i will return whenever i have a chance to be in the area!
For lunch, we were first to arrive at around 11am. It was a good idea to go there early because it gradually turned into a busy, crowded place. By then we have already secured our comfortable space at the corner of the main dining area near the counter. Parking space was also easy peasy.
We had spinach soup, tausi clams, lengua, and Happy Lulu Rice. The latter, though a rice topping, is a generous serving and may be shared by two. The dishes were tasty, but I wish their lengua would be tender.
The prices are reasonable.
