The staff are friendly and polite. The place has nice ambiance. Our family's favorites are: Tsunami seafood chowder (you could really appreciate the seafood contained in the soup), krispy kpop kei-ku (a variation of seafood + vegetables pancake), west coast tacos -- for those who likes salmon sashimi, this is a must-try, and good jira tinapa pasta.

Just beside Chinatown’s Best Food, King Kaijoo Fusion is located in Banawe, where a culinary innovation is booming in new concept restaurants. The space doesn’t look anything festive or atmospheric but rather cozy. This is ideal for those looking to dine in a quiet and reserved place while not having to drive far away from Banawe area. Spotlights and dark upholstery fabric suggest an ambiance of class and set the mood for intimate conversations. One wall is covered or decorated intentionally with a map, which provides a hint that food here are inspired diversely from across the globe.

Mimiga (PhP 248) didn’t strike me as the love-at-first-bite type, but its texture was spot on, positively and delightfully crunchy. It’s a good snack to have as a conversation starter that you can eat by your fingers. Made of crispy pig’s ear with shichimi, it was served with vinegar dip on the side. It wasn’t greasy at all.

Next came the Giddora Onion Soup (PhP 178) which four of us shared. 🙂 It’s a blend of three onions, cooked with beef stock, and topped with cheesy croutons. It’s one of the better onion soups we’ve tried.

Given our penchant for tacos, West Coast Tacos (3 pieces, PhP 288) was obviously a must-order item, and boy, did it ever deliver. The miso and black sesame seeds just added a fantastic depth and savor to the sashimi, which was then utterly balanced by the brightness of wasabi aioli and coriander.

Miso Monster Wings (PhP 348) were presented as 6 pieces of chicken wings in a platter. These chicken wings showed off a wonderful back-and-forth of the combination of salty, sweet, earthy and savory elements of the miso glaze. Make sure to squeeze out the lemon to add a citrus accent and freshness to the harmony.

Volcano Kimchicken Nuggets (PhP 298) was another standout as it imparted an almost explosive rendition of kimchi fried rice. The kimchi was spicy, but not in-your-face spicy as you can still relish the flavored taste of the rice. Gooey cheese sauce, fried chicken nuggets, and spring onions were all superb ingredients making up the dish.

Furi-Kareizee Fries (PhP 278) were fluffy yet crunchy on the tooth, with a subtle taste of bacon goodness, masterfully made with furikake (dry Japanese seasoning). When you’re done, you’ll have that same sense of surprise as when your fingers hit the bottom of a bag of chips you thought you only just opened. Yummy!

The Legendary Seafood Pasta (PhP 378) was similarly enjoyable. With a oceany character that married well with Thai herbs, the pasta was cooked with green curry and a mix of seafoods, it had a creamy consistency but still light on the palate. Like their other dishes, this recipe welcomes creativity. Imagine marrying the taste of carbonara and laksa. It’s uncomplicated and soothing for any meal.

KFC Sandwich (PhP 288) looked chunky and tasty. It’s Korean fried chicken, gochujang glaze, sriracha mayo, brioche bun, with fries.

For desserts, we started with their Chocolate Tempest Tempura (PhP 298) as it’s recommended on the menu. What set this one apart was the interaction between the hot deep-fried snickers and cold vanilla ice cream topped with a caramel swirl. It resulted in a lovely sweet, hot and cold creamy interplay. Quite nice!

Lastly, their Fire and Ice (PhP 248) was indulgent, with a slightly over the top presentation and a little bit boozy. It’s neopolitan ice cream, meringue, and brandy surprise. Inside, expect to chew a crumbly texture with subdued sweetness of chocolate and vanilla well-matched with the tartness of strawberry.

Something new to the Banawe food scene, King Kaijoo offers fusion food when you are so used to the usual Chinese, Asian restaurants in the area. Would recommend to others to try this restaurant.

Different gastronomic ideas combined together created fusion dishes, and this is the concept of King Kaijoo - the newest restaurant in Quezon City. They are serving a new way of cooking combining two cuisines mainly from countries surrounding the Pacific Ocean.

When I got the invite for this Foodie Meet Up, there was a slight hesitation on my part. Before even checking on the Zomato app, I thought that King Kaijoo is an amusement park with restaurants. Then, Zomato informed me that it would be at Banawe. That was the only time I answered in the affirmative.

Good thing that I said yes to the invite. I will tell you why.

Fun started upon my entrance to the restaurant (which for a nano-second thought to be a kid playground). I was properly greeted by, well, a tad timid girl who chose not to speak up. Then, I my eyes were caught by the brightly colored walls with cartoon characters which you also see in the black menu, and a signage that seems to advertise a Japanese anime. In short. I knew then that I was gearing for a hell of a fun time.

Fun time ensues as the West Coast Tacos were served. A dish that is highly Instagram-worthy. These tacos were slightly spicy with its salmon sashimi, miso, wasabi aioli coriander and the blend of all of these flavors was pure magic.

Another spicy appetizer was the Mimiga which is made up of crispy pig’s ear spiced up by shichimi (mixture of seven ingredients) that comes with a vinegar dip. Best partnered with cold beer, this is a true blue pulutan.

For the mains, there were two sandwiches and a dish salmon that vied for our attention: Katsu Sando Sandwich, Banzai Bacon Cheeseburger and the Pacific Rim Catch (or the Atlantic Salmon) which was the winner, in my book.

The fish dish won hands down because of the unquestionable freshness. Added to that was the way it was cooked that retained the juice thus maintaining its tenderness. A gustatory delight.

On the other hand, the Katsu Sando Sandwich is a universe away from a masterpiece. It was a not-so-extra-ordinary sandwich with thick breaded meat lifted up from mediocrity by a surprisingly good slaw. Aside from that, nothing much can be said about it. The cheeseburger, as expected, was made in heaven. Beef patty was succulent, grilled right complementing the crispy bacon bringing any carnivorous to nirvana.

However, it was the Tsunami Seafood Chowder when I revisited with my family a few days after that actually blew my mind. The thick soup has shrimp, fish fillet, mussels, clams and cream that as per the menu’s description… “a crashing wave of the sea’s flavor in one bowl.” This tsunami was, indeed, to-die-for.

What our group sampled at King Kaijoo was not even half of the actual menu items. There is still much, much more gems to discover here. And I intend to experience each one.

Congratulations, King Kaijoo and good luck.

Before this invite last week, I had impressions that King Kaijoo was yet another Chinese restaurant in Banawe. In fact, I was envisioning having Hotpot that day.

I was wrong, and am glad I was. King Kaijoo’s concept in the area is a surprise, and ironically, a restaurant Banawe needs. It’s time the famous strip embrace new flavors! They offer various cuisines in one roof; a modern fusion focused on the local palate.

Kaijoo means strange beast. This place took that name because they envision to be a big-time game changer. I am rooting for their success!

Nothing served to us media was a dish I’ve seen before. And most of it was exceptional both in taste and plating.

Mimiga arrived first. From afar, I thought it was Onion Rings. As I picked it up, I appreciated the effort behind it. I highly recommend having this starter, crispy pig’s ear with their own vinegar dip.

Another starter worth ordering is the Tokyo Titan Tacos. It’s an east meets west synergy. It’s your hard shell taco with fresh tuna sashimi, ponzu, jalapenos, and coriander.

If you love Wings as I do, have the six-piece, Miso Monster Wings. It’s seasoned well with a miso glaze. It’s a safe bet just in case you’re not that adventurous.

For a healthy pick, the colorful Watermelon Wave Salad is the star. It’s simple yet sensible. It has two kinds of watermelon, greens, kesong puti, nuts in traditional balsamic dressing.

The soups here in King Kaijoo are super! Among the three that we received, the Tsunami Seafood Chowder stood out the most. That bowl had generous ingredients of shrimps, fish fillet, mussels, and clams. It was almost a viand with all its components. The other two were Chizu Broccoli Soup and Gidora Onion Soup.

On mains, these two rice meals were my favorites- Hamburg Rice and Yummi Umami Chicken. The former was a delicious chunky meat of pork and beef burger in tonkatsu gravy. The latter, a savory pan-roasted boneless thigh in herby green sauce.

Calories abound in the deep-fried, KFC Sandwich but have it anyway! It’s a spicy and sweet Korean Fried Chicken wrapped in gochujang glaze and sriracha mayo.

Finally, there was pasta served, but I kind of skipped them. My colleagues did give praises on the salty, Good-Jira Tinapa Pasta and creamy, Hafu Hero Pasta, King Kaijoo’s take on rich Carbonara.

Banawe are you ready for this change? Give King Kaijoo a chance. They have a wonderful menu made to win your heart.

Something new and hip just opened up along the streets of Banawe and it's named, King Kaijoo. A restaurant that offers Asian fusion dishes perfect for those who are looking for something different. Whether you're a teen or an adult, something in this place will satisfy your palette. They're truly deserving of a 5.0 rating because each dish we had was done so well that every bite will make you want more.

Starting from the soups, the Chizu Broccoli (Php 238.00) was my absolute fave: which had an overwhelming yet satisfying taste of cheese that's perfectly creamy. I didn't even mind the broccoli I just wanted so much of it.

There's also the Tsunami Seafood Chowder (Php 258.00): which was a crowd favorite. It was filled with various kinds of seafood like shrimp, fish, and clams. Each spoonful is filled with creamy seafood goodness. Servings are good for 2 or more depending on how much you order but if you order this alone, you'd be satisfied with just this.

The Mimiga (Php 248.00): could be a perfect snack with some alcohol, which they also offer btw, it's crispy pig ears fried until it's so crispy it felt like you're eating chicharon. It's spicy for those who can't take the heat but just the right amount for those who love spicy food.

The Hamburg Rice (Php 268.00): had a very Japanese taste. It was a mix of pork and beef but what makes it stand out is the sauce. I couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was but there's that ingredient that was so familiar to my tastebuds but I couldn't name it. I swear it's on the tip of my tongue. Anyway, the burger itself was cooked just right. It wasn't tough which I liked and the patty was also just the right size for a hungry appetite.

The Legendary Seafood Pasta (Php 378.00): is a definite MUST order when you go here. That green Thai curry sauce is everything. It's so tasty that every bite is just an explosion of flavors in your mouth. If you love curry or just coconut milk food, you'd love this for sure. I love that it's also generously topped with seafood as well.

I don't think I've seen anything like the Good-Jira Tinapa Pasta (Php 368.00): before but I did assume it was similar to sardines pasta and I was right except that the flavor of the tinapa stands out. My only remark about this pasta is that it needed a bit more sourness because I loved the dish even more when my bite comes with a piece of tomato. I don't know, maybe that's just me. I still loved it regardless.

The KFC Sandwich (Php 288.00): is also another favorite of mine! Oh my goodness. Forget the rice, this is the one I'm coming back for here again and again. I'm usually not a fan of chicken burgers nor anything with "gochujang" in it but this dish is a game-changer. I love the sweet and sour combination of the sauce and the crispiness of the chicken that retains even after the dish has gone cold. I Also, I didn't think it was as spicy because I was able to enjoy it.

I assure you that you won't be disappointed when you try this place out. Like I said they also offer alcohol so it's perfect for a chill night with your friends before a night of partying too.
