One of the cheapest but sulit restaurants that serve Filipino food. They were located to the ground floor. The food here is really good. We always have their kare kare gulay. We also ordered their sisig ala pampanga (not in photos) and its quite good for me. I would still go for their manila version.

Our meal started out with a serious helping of Sizzling Balut (PhP 190)- preserved duck eggs cooked in an appetizing sauce. Try this Filipino delicacy if you’re into exotic food. Built a bit like a parfait, you have the egg white at the bottom, the duck in the middle and then the yolk in layers.

Do not miss the Krispy Pata (PhP 495). A porcine obsession of many Filipinos, the deep-fried pork knuckles had a great separation of fat and lean, with a pleasant, firm texture. The pork struck a balance between tenderness and chew and showed off a wonderfully crisp exterior to boot. It’s quite good when eaten alone but better with vinegar and chili sauce for a touch of tartness and a more balanced taste.

My mom dearly loves grilled catfish or “Inihaw na Hito” (PhP 220), and we’re glad it didn’t have a muddy taste. It was our first time to try it with Buro’t Mustasa. Buro is a local delicacy of Pampanga which is made of fermented rice. It has a pungent smell and is usually paired with fried food like pork, chicken, and fish. Mustasa refers to preserved or pickled mustard greens. It’s definition a good option to eat catfish with this condiment, but I still think that the classic combination of vinegar and soy sauce would work well with the catfish.

I’m usually not a fan of sisig, but even I must admit that Kusina Juan Republika’s sisig isn’t bad. They actually offer two versions: one is Sisig ala Manila (PhP 195) which came out crunchier and the other is Sisig ala Pampanga (PhP 195) made with grilled pork with fresh onions, chicken liver, and fresh chili pepper.

A Filipino meal just wouldn’t seem complete without some sort of rice. In this case, ordering Pinakbet Rice with Seafoods (PhP 180) would be for your maximum pleasure. It had an abundance of varying flavors at play. The cast iron pan was loaded with a vibrant mix of seafoods, vegetables, and fluffy grains of rice that were powerfully flavored. The sweet, briny flavor of the mussels and the delicate flavor of the squid shone throughout the dish and was enjoyed by all.

Kusina Juan Republika is located at the same compound (or “food park,” if you will) as Bento & Co, Urbanidad Cafe, Little Winehaus, Open Table, Adelaida’s Delicacies, 5YNCO Bar, and Brewology Cafe. They offer “menu sharing.” This means that you can get food from other establishments within these restaurants whenever you’re seated. Ask one of the staff for the menu and request to have desserts or drinks served at your location, at no additional service fee.

I don't like eating at Filipino restaurants that have "TWEAKED" classic reciipes until they become unrecognizable. Luckily, the guys at Kusina Juan Republika have decided to stick to tried and tested formulas.

When  it comes to Filipino food, there is no need to get too cocky. The traditional recipes are popular for a reason. I tried the amazing crispy pata here and I must say that I am still dreaming about it. My friends and I also had a bandehado platter that featured the classic pork barbecue and some fried chicken and fish. a great trio that went perfectly well with atchara and rice.

Of course, we could not skip the pork sisig. No one should have a Filipino feast without it.

For the veggies, we had some creamy Gising-Gising. The sigarilyas cooked in coconut milk provided a great accompaniment to all out fried and grilled dishes. This is a good place to go to if you are missing some familiar flavors from home. It's also a nice place to bring foreign friends for a taste of authentic local cuisine.

Kusina Juan Republika is a restaurant offering Filipino favorites which is situated in the 2nd level of 2 Lozcano Place. The restaurant is very casual that can accommodate at least 40 customers inside and outside.

We have the following Filipino favorites during our lunch:

🐷 Sisig Ala Pampanga for Php195.00 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

🐷 Crispy Garlic Pata for Php515.00 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

🐷 Bandejado Set (varieties of 3 different dishes) for Php495.00 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5

🐷 Gising Gising for Php170.00 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5

Their version of Sisig and Crispy Pata were so good, pairing with steamed rice will enhance the flavor. Ang sarap! Actually lahat masarap, including the Gising Gising and Bandejado Set (pork barbecue, chicken and fish).

This restaurant is worth coming back. They also have reasonable or I may say affordable prices for their dishes.

Established May 2016, this "home away from home" restaurant serves traditional Filipino dishes with a twist - pinakbet rice with seafood, krispy pata, sisig manila or sisig Pampanga, spicy pusit or gising-gising just to name a few.

Their grand dining room will bring your back to the 1950s. The Komedor or Silid Kainan is a huge air-conditioned room with 50 people capacity, a big television screen featuring Old Manila, Cebu, Baguio and other late twentieth century cities. The Verenda or "beranda o balkon or balkonahe" features high-ceiling, an open-air section overlooking the bustling street Scout Lazcano, Scout Magbanua and Mother Ignacia.

Gising gising (Php 170)
Sautéed fresh sigariyas, pork, chill and ginger in coconut milk.

Crispy Garlic Pata (Php 515)
Nuot sa spiciness hanggang laman. It was good but then again, I can't have a lot since I have low tolerance for spicy dishes 😅

Sisig ala Pampanga (Php 195)
Crunchy sisig with chicken liver, chili pepper, fresh onions and grilled pork.

Bandehado Set 4 (Php 495)
Ideal for 3 people. It includes pork barbecue, fried chicken, crispy spicy hito and steam rice.

If you want to relax and taste home coked Filipino favorites visit Kusina Juan Republika at the 2nd floor of 2 Lazcano Place.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE: Great for family gathering or big group since they have generous portions for their dishes. They offer no frills yet delicious Filipino food.

You can also do cross-orders with the other 6 restaurants in the compound. 😄

Traditional. Home-made. Classic. Comfort Food

These are the three words that came to mind when together with other foodies, we trouped to no. 2 Dr. Lazcano corner Scout Magbanua and Mother Ignacia St upon the invitation of Ms. Irene of Little Winehaus for a cross-order experience among 6 restaurants. Kusina Juan Republika is one of the participating restaurants....

I mentioned this in my earlier blog posts, but when I moved back to Manila from Cebu right after high school, I first lived with my grandfather at the Scout Area of Quezon City. Dining at the Scout Area didn't have the gems that are there today. In fact, if we wanted a decent meal, we would have to drive over to the bustling Tomas Morato Ave, where legendary restaurants, such as Mario's, Anabels' and the like still stand today.

After our escapade of caviar and wine. We wanted something heavy to quench our after drinking thirst. This means rice and something tasty. And that's exactly what you get here.

We had their sisigsilog. Sisig, garlic rice and scrambled eggs are served on a hot plate. The sisig is crunchy and very tasty, perfect with a squirt of calamansi and hot sauce. What surprised me here, was how they prepared their scrambled eggs. Instead of the usual sunny side up that came with a silog, it was scrambled and even came with tomatoes and onions cooked with it. The whole dish was just delicious and perfect for the occasion. Will be back to try their other offerings.

I always get overwhelmed with restaurant options whenever I'm in Quezon City. With several options along Tomas Morato and Teachers Village, I often rely on my foodie friends' suggestions on the best places to eat. And last weekend, I got to visit this new food complex along the busy street of Mother Ignacia that houses a Filipino and Japanese restaurants, tapas bar, cafe and a pastry shop. First stop, Kusina Juan Republik.
