I've patronized Pepi since they were just a take-out window at an old house in Dian St, Makati. I just craved for Cubanos especially after Jon Favreau's "Chef." The same guy who brought in RDJ for the role of Tony Stark in the first "Iron Man" movie. This was in 2008 when he both directed the movie and played Happy Hogan, Tony Stark's driver.
This will be the second time for me to try their rice meals. This time I opted for the Pollo Asado Cubano (P195), Queso Rollo (P65) and a Guava Lemonade (P80).
Their Cuban garlic roast chicken was really good. Crispy skin, juicy meat and well-cooked thru. My pet-peeve with chicken dishes is if I find blood near the bone area. I could eat medium rare beef or raw fish but I can never eat poorly cooked chicken or pork for that matter. I guess in these instances l'm a germophobe.
The flavors were spot on South American with the combination of salsa made of tomatoes, onions, parsley and a sprinkling of corn kernels. The well-fried scrumptious plantains helped, too.
I was surprised at the size of the Queso Rollo. I thought from the pictures it would be small. Good meal at a good price.
To be honest, i only tried this bacause i love the movie “Chef” and i got curious on cuban food. Well, Pepi Cubano surely didn’t disappoint. Their bread is crunchy and flavorful with that touch of butter while grilling. The beef and onions, soft and complement each other. Will comeback and try their other sandwiches.
Perfect merienda! I love the crunch of the bread. Very flavorful meat. Very simple, right serving and affordable. Will definitely gonna come back.
