Looking to unwind this Friday night? If you’re looking for a place to be with your buddies, then try this lively bar in BGC. This place does scream Australia but don’t fret, this place is welcome to all. It is the apt venue to watch those football games but all the more, a good place to bond with your buddies. With its lively ambiance (even during midday), I can just imagine the energy this place has during the evening. Before we head on over to their classic offers, they do have lunch dishes to cater to those working in the vicinity.
Skippy’s Gastropub is a true blue Aussie sports bar! Turning 5 this year, the pub from Oz adds some new dishes alongside the Aussie Favorites. Pretty much like everything in the land down under, Skippy’s serving is ginormous!. Skippy’s GastropubSkippy’s Gastropub. Skippy was a bush kangaroo who starred in an Australian TV series airing from 1968 to 1970. The intelligent kangaroo was the pet of a young boy and son of a park ranger in the series. Together, they went on adventures around the national park. Growing up, owner Stephen Burn loved watching Skippy on TV. He fondly recounted the time when his grandpa took him to see Skippy in person. (Trivia: Skippy the Bush Kangaroo was actually female because she had a pouch!) Steve eventually managed to procure Skippy’s paw after she passed away, and anyone who would ring the bell attached to Skippy’s paw would buy drinks for everyone in the pub! [Read More]
Cliché though it may be, no other nation does barbecues like they do Down Under – good beer and great ingredients (and loads of both). Ask most Aussies what their favourite comfort food is and if they don’t say pie, they’re probably lying. Ask what they want in it, and they’ll usually accept nothing less than local beef and a decent beer. Aussies love their steak in perfect prime cut, this we were able to learn after we stumbled upon an Australian food hub. I recently discovered an Aussie sports restaurant right in the heart of Bonifacio Global City called Skippy’s Gastropub Manila.
Skippy’s Bourbon Ribs are made by the said restaurant’s owner, Stephen Bird himself which he does for a total of eight hours. It’s a secret recipe which he has perfected for years. On tasting the ribs, you can immediately notice the smokey charcoal aroma of the sauce(make sure you spread the sauce residue from the plate before eating) which works well with the surprisingly tender meat and unlike other ribs we have tried before, these ribs contain a good amount of meat. If you’re a rib fan like us, we were happy to note that the Bourbon wasn’t too overpowering in terms of flavor, but just right. Their bourbon ribs were slow-cooked Aussie style and served with homemade barbecue bourbon sauce served with steamed vegetables and a side of fries. Available at 300 grams, 800 grams , 600 grams and 1,400 grams.
There isn’t a nation in the world that doesn’t deep-fry something, but we reckon beer-battered fish and chips is the ultimate. Skippy’s Seafood Platter reminds us of the fresh bounties from the sea. That flaky fresh ebi with the crispy, ever-so-slightly oily batter is to die for, and perfect eaten while looking out to sea – and when you have this dish, it feels like you’re on the coastline of Australia, enjoying the freshest harvest.
And before we forget, you MUST tray their Diablo Wings. We highly recommend them because believe us, but they taste a WHOLE LOT better than the ones we have tried in Korean Chicken restaurants. What’s more? They’re perfect combination with some of the alcohol drinks available here at Skippy’s.
We also recommend you take advantage of their promo. From Monday to Wednesday from 11:00 am to 2:00 am, one can order minimum 15 pieces of these yummy fried Diablo wings with beer for just Php 10.00 per piece. The chicken is very tasty and very similar in taste and comparable to a well-known restaurant which specializes on buffalo wings or Korean chicken.
Since it is a Gastropub, sports events are also being held here. In fact, they have wide huge screens and TV for sports fanatics. They also have live performances by bands who does regular gigs at Skippys.
