Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this gem right under my husbands aunties apartment in Manila. Made my visit to Phils so much more special, took me back to childhood with unbelievable flavours and top notch dishes. Was also super happy to be able to introduce Serbian food to my Filo family. Always been a fan of Balkan. I have tried food in their San Juan branch that unfortunately had to be closed. Its a good thing that the BGC branch was still open.
My gf and I personally love their Beef Goulash and Sarma which already completes meal for us. We usually get the large order for the Goulash whenever we visit since the spicy beef taste is to die for!
I highly recommend that you guys try this resto out. They also serve liquor so hanging out with friends in this place will be cool. 👍
Balkan offers generous portions of European cooking and I must say that the taste is also beyond comparison. It is a rare find in the Metro and we’re lucky to have discovered it. Steaks are quite big & the signature soup (tomato-based soup) are highly recommended.
I’ve always liked how this place is so cozy, intimate and classy. I always order their hummus, lamb pasta and beef entres! The orders always come fast. I was just sad today that all of my favorites were not available. So, if you’re looking for a different kind of lunch, this place will not dissapoint!
I have been there twice. The first time, we ordered 4 half dozen wings and it was ok. Quite pricey but I guess the ambience makes up for it. The next time, I ordered chicken with buttered mixed vegetables on the side. This was around 1am. The mixed vegetables tasted funny, my friend said, tasted it and it was already spoiled and mushy. I think it was stuck in the freezer for a long time. I called the attention of the server and she just took the plate and took the vegetables out. I also told her to check if it was served to someone else as they might end up in bigger trouble. Ho-hum, no apologies. I am not asking to be compensated, a simple acknowledgement would have been nice. I have not been back since as they are usually close after midnight. Hopefully, it’d be a better experience the next time.

The place is great and loved the steak served, the beer is also affordable so my husband and son enjoyed it! Good thing we came on a night with live band, there was never a dull moment that night.
We always pass through this restaurant when we go to Frankie's but never really noticed it since it looked kind of expensive. We decided to try it one time and did not regret it. The food was delicious(we had wings), they had fine utensils, the staff were attentive and the place was quiet.
Sharing our last lunch out experience at Balkan. So I finally tried this Yugoslavian restaurant and my experience was good. Candidly, what got us to try this restaurant is their Buffalo wings which comes at an affordable price around Php340 per dozen (not bad!). We ordered the Classic and White Cheese flavors which the server said are their best sellers. And it was sooooo gooood! I also tried their Cervapcici Pocket and it was flavorful too. But, I am coming back definitely because of the Buffalo Wings and will try their pizza next! :) Perfect for office lunch outs and chilling out with friends.

Once every week our office generously orders lunch of our choice. We decided to try Balkan's delivery this week. I ordered the cevapčići /che-vap-chi-chi/ platter and solo goulash /gu-lash/. I am giving them a 3.5 for the serving - it's HUGE. ones on the photo are just 1/3 of my delivery food. For what the value of the plates are for, I think little improvements will change the rating to a higher notch.
• goulash - it's a stew eaten by Hungarian shepherds during the 9th century. It's a sun dried flavored meat needing only water to make it a meal. Well, Balkan added fusili to the dish which is a good twist, the meat though is not as tender as what I am expecting for a stew, and the bread that came with the stew is hard, I didn't bother dunking it in my soup (which I would usually do if if I have bread and soup).
• cevapčići platter - this is the signature Serbian skinless sausages made from ground beef. I am a fan of these little fingers, as I describe it. This weeks' delivery though was dry (it's more palatable if the sausage is juicy), and it didn't taste as yummy. (am not sure if it's caused by meat being frozen then cooked). The platter comes with either rice or fries - choose away.
But, I am not stopping at this delivery. I'd still order from this place or dine in Balkan and treat myself to an extraordinary gustatory experience.
At first, I thought what is Balkan food? Maybe it was something exotic with lots of unfamiliar ingredients. But when I was finally served to me it wasn't, it's actually lots of fried meats, with lots of melted mozzarella, and tomato sauce. It's a very interesting cuisine and easy to get into, especially for those who like anything fried with melted cheese.
Interesting menu items that were to die for! Very rich though that you will not want to go back until a while after. They are easy to talk to regarding customization of dishes, like half rice and half fries instead of just rice OR fries. After dinner it also turns into a cozy place for drinks. Try it out and just ask for the best sellers!
