Twas my first since my mom recommended it to me..and I love it. i think I have found the best place for my foreign guests na hindi ako mapapahiya. The crews are very pleasant and attentive to our needs. The place is so clean and their restroom is so clean and very cozy. Then the food is awesome and masarap. I went out happy. My mom is so finicky and very choosy and she so hard to please when it comes to place.. food and service but I was shocked that she recommend it to me and so we tried it last night and we all went home happy..thank you Balay Dako see you again more often.. The ambiance of the place coupled with the good services provided by the staff is what makes our experience to go back and refer to other balikbayans. The foods are all delicious and it didn't take us so long to wait for our order. Special mention is the lady with a perfect smile Sarah has impressed customers by suggesting the food we can try at an affordable price.

I remember seeing Balay Dako in a Pinoy movie. It is certainly a "sosyal" type of resto. This place is great for reunions, especially if budget is not a problem, and if you like an overviewing sight of Taal.

Truly, one of the restaurants to go to in Tagaytay. You will fall in love with the view of Taal while eating. Absolutely loved their handmade piyayas as well. Bought a pack before leaving. On to the other dishes- the bulalo is really good for sharing. We're a family of 4, and can barely finish the soup. Daming laman! And soup is refillable. I absolutely loved the Kare-Kareng Gulay. The Kare-Kare sauce really tasted like real peanuts; and the amount of vegetables were really generous. We even had some for take out because we couldn't finish even if we were known, as a family, to eat a lot. The sizzling squid was underwhelming though. We thought it would be the star of the lunch, but it lacked flavor. We were thinking that it will have egg, just like a normal sisig, but it tasted like chopped up grilled squid for me. Overall, would definitely try their other dishes.

We have been going to this place for quite sometime now. We love, love the food and their pastry store too! We can’t get enough of the food and it was a first for me to try their piyaya! It was so good when hot and even when it was stored for a few days! The upper seating is a great place to hang and be with the family! My family and I are also happy that this place allows our pets to dine in with us! We always recommend this place to friends or family wanting to dine in Tagaytay! A gem :)

Went there to try their breakfast buffet at around 7:30 am. The place is already packed and there was a queue building up. Waited around 5 mins since I am the only one to eat but for groups to eat, they need to wait up around 10-15 mins. When I went up, it was already busy. The corned beef is a must try.. which I say the most delicious corned beef I tasted so far. The tapa is also good. Paid around 700++ which is not bad since there are a lot of food to choose from. Good thing, there is a mini store where you can buy a frozen corned beef and tapa. Don't expect a relaxed vibe while eating your food.

The interior is really nice, it feels like you went back centuries ago. Large windows, wooden floors, high ceiling and huge ceiling fans. The avocado ice cream is very creamy but a little bland. They have the best cheese roll and ensaymada, soft and not too sweet. You can enjoy 50% discount on breads every weekdays starting at 7pm. They also have the best adobo squid (baby squid) and pumpkin soup! 🤤

We went here on a weekday night and surprised to find out that there are still a lot of diners. Our group had 7 pax and we ordered the following: sisig na baboy, sinigang ng balay, sizzling bulalo na baka, binagoongang kanin at manggang hilaw, and sinuteng pusit. These were more than enough to feed us!

Our only concern was with the sizzling bulalo because the meat absorbed the sauce after some time, making it dry. We wished that there was an extra gravy sauce on the side.

Overall, this place has high value for money because you get really good food + big serving size.

First Visit: 💔

Went on a Sunday for breakfast. Got our queue number at 7:30 (2 pax) . After 1 and a half hours, we still have 6 more groups ahead of us (at least an hour more of wait time). Had to leave and look for another place because we were starving. Place is really full on Sundays I guess.

2nd Visit: 👌

Tuesday Lunch. Everything went well. Do not order kare kare though because it has too much food colour but lacks flavor. Crispy pata tasted fine and was very tender. Kansi and Callos were also tasty and tender. Love their pinoy desserts: bibingka and turon. View is better from the 2nd floor. Service was fast this time and waiters are polite.

Went here for the first time when we toured our expat boss around Tagaytay. Though I can’t remember everything we ordered (except for the baby squid with garlic and olive oil), I remember being extremely pleased with all the food served and the ambiance!

The restaurant is set in a “balay dako”, an Ilonggo phrase which is literally translated as big house. Plus the view is spectacular so don’t forget to take a picture perfect souvenir with Mr. Taal.

Can’t the weekend arrive any faster? You’re probably cooking up plans on what to do this weekend. In case you’re feeling adventurous and in the mood to travel super early, Balay Dako might just give you the fuel you need throughout the day. 🙂. Just look at the crowd here! We arrived at around 7am (which is the start of the breakfast buffet here), and we were on the waiting list already. That sets one’s expectations of the food here. It seems that they are prepared for the crowd as they have a very spacious waiting area. The feeling of entering this restaurant is like entering those ancestral homes with very big salas. The overall elan was homey and comfortable. In the area where the breakfast buffet is served, I liked that they had all these openings to let the cool breeze in. I don’t think there was a fan there as the breeze felt natural.

Love this place 😍😍😍

From the awesome taal view, to the friendly service, to the delicious food ~ Balay Dako is one of the most recommended restaurant in Tagaytay.

We had Kamote for appetiser, Kansi for soup and Squid sisig and Chicken satay for buffers.

Loved them all, specially the Kansi. It was our first time to try this dish. I would say its a combination of Bulalo with Sinigang. The result is awesome, we ❤️ it. This is very heavy for 2 people though. This dish easily tops our list.

Our 2nd favorite was chicken satay, perfectly grilled and juicy. Topped with the peanut sauce, you get an explosion of flavors! The squid sisig was nice as well, but also heavy.

We tried their Avocado Milkshake, and it didn't fail us. It was so good! We've also tried the Ginumis, which was OK. I would prefer the sago at gulaman.

The dishes are for 2 people and up. Price is at par with the quality of the dishes. The ambiance is great and the view is Gold. Ample parking space is available and service is very friendly and well coordinated. They also have a small souvenir shop inside! This is a great place specially for families 😁

Had family dinner here last April 30,2019

Food- 5

We ordered Kare Kare, bangus ala pobre, pinakbet, pata tim, kansi, pancit (antonio's) and fried lumpia.

Except for Kansi, which we didn't like, everything tasted great. Even their pancit! The noodles had a different texture, thin slices sya so di nakakaumay. One thing I liked about their dishes is sobrang fresh ng veggies. Isusumpa mo yung pait ng ampalaya sa pinakbet. But it's a good thing lalo na if, like us, you ordered a lot of meat tapos you want to have veggies to compensate for the cholesterol. :) kidding aside, for me it meant na fresh yung ingredients. Their kare kare is on the sweet side (parang same as Comedor's kare kare) pero okay lang kasi yiu have the bagoong naman to tone it down, so bagay lang sya.

Service-5
The place was crowded pero they make sure na ma-accommodate lahat. Aaaand, yung take out mo is properly packed in microwavable containers kaya hindi sya nakamainis kainin again pag uwi sa bahay. Di sya nagmumukang messy and unappetizing.

Presko din sa loob. No need for a/c (ewan ko lang during lunchtime). And their washrooms, malinis and pwede ka matulog sa loob. Haha. Kahit na packed yung place, sobrang linis ng washroom. I'm very meticulous pag dating sa gabto kasi I've always believed na it reflects how the management handles your food din. So I'm really happy with everything. :)

We arrived 10:30am and the place is a bit packed already. They have Spacious parking but if you arrive late you will need to wait, althought it did not happen to us. Place was nice, the house is really big. People are super nice as well. I rated 4 because I expected a lot, although people are nice maybe due to the volume of people service was slow. All of our order was served but they forgot to give us spoon and fork :) was funny though. Food was great, except for the taro leaves in gata sauce. It felt like a lot of taro layers but there is no special surprise. Paella was yum! Price is a combination of expensive and not. You can order a dish as low as 199 and as high as 1000.

Will I recommend? Yes!
Will I visit again? Yes, but hopefully they dont forget to give me utensils :p

Ambience:
The dine-in space was enormous downstairs! If you want a view of #Tagaytay, definitely go here during the day. We enjoyed our stay just as much in the evening!

Grilled #Squid:
This was the best of the three dishes we ordered. It was light and not too chewy.

#Palabok:
It was a huge serving meant for sharing. Best point is how healthy it looks because of the greens but it's not the best version I've tried.

#Pecho & Paa:
Grilled #Chicken was also large but a bit dry. It's enough to get full with rice already.

Service:
Excellent! Waiting time was fair and they were generous with water refills.

We ordered the Ensaladang Talong at Mangga, Balay Dako Crispy Pata, Beef Kalderata, and Turon with tikoy and ube. I understand that it was a bit of challenging for the staff to be attentive due to full of customers the entire day.

Balay Dako is a very known restaurant sa Tagaytay. So tinry namin kung okay ba talaga ang food. Nagpunta kami dun at super daming tao! Pero, nag antay pa din kami. We waited for about 30mins siguro or less. Yung menu nila, oo mejj pricey pero kasi you’re paying for the view. Guys, imagine niyo kakain kayo ng meal tapos ang ganda ganda ng view niyo sa taal volcano! 😍

.

📍Balay Dako, Tagaytay City

🍴Kansi, P465.00 (good for 3-4 pax)

• gitna ito ng sinigang at bulalo. this is an ilonggo favorite! must try ito! we wanted sana bulalo, kaso good for 6 people daw, eh dalawa lang kami 😅

🍴Lumpiang Pinirito, P185.00

• O K A Y THIS IS TOO GOOD! KAHIT ETO AT KANIN LANG SOLB KA NA! PANALO DIN YUNG SUKA!

🍴Bibingka Special, P180.00

• mejj maliit siya for the price. pero nakakatuwa kasi special talaga. may cheese, niyog, salted egg, at buko sa loob! must try din ito! best paired with coffee ☺️

🍴Sorbetes Vanilla, P75.00

• very creamy ito. kaso di ko masyado nagustuhan yung barquillos na kasama kasi puro sesame seeds, mas okay sana if plain.

🍴Piyaya, P70 (6pcs)

• ang galing kasi freshly cooked talaga siya. lulutuin sa harap mo. dami lang din sesame seeds at may mga sunog so mahirap makain. pero yung mga okay naman ang luto, bongga sa sarap!

Our experience with this restaurant is the complete opposite of my recent post regarding the slow service of Cafe Voi La. Wait staff are well trained and tables are well attended. Servings are generous. The quality of food explains the long queue. The ambiance will remind you of your Sunday luncheons with your Lola.

The pinakbet rice with lechon kawali was superb, sinigang na hipon was delicious, chicharo with shrimp was good , the mango juice was amazing
...but the calamares was meh. They also have freshly made piayaya: to die for! Overall, highly recommended. 😁

Balay Dako is the last of the Antonios Ive tried, simply because I thought that Ive been to both Antonios and Breakfast at Antonios and that Ive tasted the best they had to offer (Breakfast/Brunch or Dinner). Im proud to say that this is one of the few occassions I'm glad to be proven wrong, I sampled breakfast and dinner but I missed lunch and Balay Dako is "The Lunch Place" place in Tagaytay. Much like its two siblings, Balay Dako boasts of eye catching spanish inspired interiors. Youd be able to appreciate it better if the place isnt always packed, if it werent though then I wouldnt be raving about this restaurant in this review.

To be perfectly honest, I dont really find anything unusual about their menu, they offer your typical Pinoy and Ilonggo food although what they lack in creativity they more than make up in their execution. The simple dishes like bulalo and inihaw na tamban are execptionally done and made with only the freshest ingredients. The Bulalo was made with australian beef, tender and very tasty. You can definitely taste the beef in the stew without the use of beef cubes, the surprising thing was that its not greasy. It didnt turn into a skating rink of grease once it went cold (cardio doctors and patients please take note). The fish was fresh and was grilled to perfection using its own juices. Dashed with a pinch of salt it didnt need any addional condiment to make it savory it tasted of smoked coals and the sea.

With this, I have come full circle and completed my pilgrimage to the holy trinity of Tagatay Dining Breakfast (Breakfast at Antonios), Lunch (Balay Dako) and Dinner (Antontios).

I've always been a fan of THE AMAZING ILONGGO CHEF Tony Boy Escalante. I've been blessed enough to see up close how he put so much passion and dedication in each and every plate which transcends to amazing dishes that delight his clients.

Balay Dako to me brings me back to my hometown Negros Occidental not just because of the restaurant's name which is an ilonggo translation of "big house" but because the dishes are authentically ilonggo! That hearty bowl of Kansi Soup brings back fond childhood memories of Negros. Don't be fooled at how 'usual' fried lumpia looks --- every bite makes you want for more! Even the ice cream does not disappoint!!! And oh! If you like Piaya, you gotta try the ones freshly made at Balay Dako...it's even yummier while it's hot.

Everything in the menu is worth the price!

Waiting time is longer when you go there during holidays because it is flooded with customers. But don't worry. The little shop within the restaurant will surely keep you busy as you shop around for some pasalubongs that are proudly tatak Negrense! ❤❤❤

Was there a week ago with the whole family. It was really packed and seemed like we're going to wait forever to be seated. It took about half an hour or so and a couple of freshly made piyaya before we got our table. We got the sizzling bulalo, the pibakbet with lechon kawali which was a I can say hit the spot because not a piece of rice was left on the platter. Chunky slices of belly which was perfectly crispy, right amount of rice to pinakbet ratio. The dinuguan was a ummm a little disappointing. The serving was small for the price. Nothing really special about it. The cadios which we were looking forward to uaving was unfortunately unavailable. Their housemade ice cream was absolutely nice. Our drinks came when we were almost finished eating and I had to follow it up with the staff twice. The manager did apologize for the delay. 5 stars for me still because I enjoyed the food, the place and service aside from the late drinks. But absolutely forgivable because they were packed.

First visit (Jan 2019): 5 🌟

Came here for a cup of coffee and dessert after a long leisurely lunch at Marcia Adam's (super recommend!!). Ended up getting a bowl of batchoy (huge serving, definitely for sharing), and some piaya to go (I liked it better before, don't know what changed...) was hoping I could also get Buko Pie and Spanish bread as pasalubong but they were already out of stock at 5pm! So, if you're looking to buy goodies, make sure to come here early

Aside from their food, Balay Dako also boasts wonderful views of Taal Volcano - so it's a great place to bring your foreigner friends haha

Second visit (Feb 2019): 4 🌟

I've always loved Balay Dako and I make sure to visit this restaurant every time I'm in Tagaytay. This time though, I wasn't very pleased...

First off, waiting times are ridiculous. We arrived at 1:30pm, and were 46th in line! I know we could've left, but we gamely waited anyway. Technically, it's not the restaurant's fault that they've now become so popular. Tip to folks? Come here before 11am or after 3pm - unless you're willing to wait

After a 50mins wait, we were finally seated. What we ordered
1. Bulalo na Baka (PHP 1170): always a good order and super sulit. The soup is refillable, and there are A LOT of very tender beef chunks. Even if our family of 5 had ordered only this, I think we would've been alright
2. Lumpiang sariwa (PHP 185): Each lumpia is good for 2-3 people, and I really like it, especially paired with their peanut sauce which isn't too sweet but neither is it dull in taste
3. Bangus Ala pobre (PHP 710): Like the bulalo, the Bangus is pretty pricey but HUGE. it's essentially a 1 kg Bangus and is cooked pretty well. We really liked it!
4. Kare Kareng gulay (PHP 385): The peanut sauce was good, and paired with the bagoong, it can serve as ulam for your rice any day. Having said that, it isn't particularly special
5. Sinuteng pusit (PHP 610): Hmm, the baby squid is really tender but this dish is pretty small and not that noteworthy. Will not reorder again
6. Desserts:
- Piaya (PHP 70 for 6pcs): Eat when it's fresh and hot! It practically melts in your mouth. But it's not really a good pasalubong because it isn't as yummy anymore when it's not fresh
- Buko pie (PHP 55 per slice) : the slice is pretty full but chock-full of Buko. It is a tad bit sweet though
- Taho ice cream (PHP 75 per scoop) : This is interesting. If you buy the Taho ice cream, it comes with sago and syrup. I think I prefer legit Taho but it's certainly interesting

Overall verdict: Food is decent and I'd definitely come back for the Bulalo na Baka and Bangus Ala pobre. Having said that, service is pretty bad - response time is pretty slow overall although the waiters are polite. The view, as always, is great.

A unique place to have lunch with family and friends. Though it was crowded and limited parking slot during lunch hour. But its worth the wait. You can also go to their veranda ground floor to check the taal view. ❤️
Try their bulalo and lechon baboy 😋

Food is great. My husband loves everything. No reservations here so be patient when waiting for your turn because a lot of people come here, esp during the holidays. View is stunning. You cannot argue about that. Staff are amazing!

The Filipino-Spanish vibe and home-cooked meals are amazing! Equally interesting are the packed specialties you can buy from their store. Perhaps their most memorable treat for me is their signature piaya, which is served hot, fresh from the oven, not cold. The taste is incomparable.

We went to Balay Dako on a Christmas Day! They don’t accept reservations during holidays and gladly there’s still seats for us! 😊 I love their buffet selection especially the “make your own omelette or fried rice” fresh mangoes are soo refreshing to eat! Perfect view of the taal volcano and relaxing ambience! ❤️
