Had lunch here with the family this long weekend. One of the few Chinese restaurants that I can say I would go back to.

Ordered lechon macau, beef with plum sauce, truffle mushrooms (MUST TRY) and crabmeat soup.
Everything we ordered was tasty. The lechon macau was okay, you can get this in any restaurant. The soup too. I was absolutely happy with the beef because it was unique and new. We opted for the plum sauce instead of the usual pepper sauce, and it's sweet and tender. Perfect with white rice. But the main highlight of our lunch menu was the truffle mushrooms! If you're a fan of truffle, then you'll love this! You can taste the truffle, but not too overpowering so you can still taste the mushrooms. I love how there are also different kinds of mushrooms in the dish.

Will definitely come back for my newest Chinese favorite dish - truffle mushrooms! Definitely a must try when you're stopping by.

Had dinner with a group.  We ordered the Seafood and Pumpkin Thick Soup, Hargao, Sharksfin Dumpling, Siopao, Radish Cake with XO, Crispy Pork Belly, Sweet & Sour Pork, French Beans with Garlic, Flat Noodles with Sate Beef, Chicken. Everything tasted very good.  Service was good.  Price is on the high side, but was made average by the credit card promo.

Only got to try Xiu now, and I've got to say, very impressive and definitely feels like a step up from the usual chinese places around Manila (of course, with a corresponding jump in price as well). Pretty much everything I tried was impressive, their suckling pig is definitely a start that is not very usual. It comes with a good kiampung at the bottom, and fried enoki mushrooms all around it. I would not really classify this as an appetizer anymore, this is a full on main course. It is pricey, but definitely something that will impress. Their suahe were very nice, their eel rice is particularly impressive. I am not usually a fan of eel, but this was incredibly tender, not a bone in sight, and really goes well with the rice.

This is a pricey place, but it is a contender for the best chinese restaurant in manila.

As we were deciding on where to have our group celebration, we chanced upon Xiu as there was a BPI card promotion. The place is elegant, really providing a fine dining experience. We ordered quite a lot and let me share with you my thoughts on each dish.

♡ Wok fried beef fillet with zucchini in truffle paste - Just wow! This by far is the softest and most savory beef dish I've ever tried. Would give this dish 10 stars if I could.

♡ Roast goose - I know I'm being unfair having tried the most succulent goose in HK but this dish is just really lacking in flavour. This was supposedly to be the star of our lunch celebration but it ended up a total let down. Plus, it was even pricier than peking duck.

♡ Pork Asado - Yummy and juicy! The cuts are quite large but the tenderness of the pork wasn't sacrificed. Loved this dish!

♡ Crispy pork belly - Not happy with this one, just too salty for my taste. I was also surprised as to how small the serving was given its price level. (Choi garden maintains the top spot for their lechon macau for me)

♡ Dimsum - You cannot go wrong with dimsum. I loved their hakaw, siomai, spring rolls and radish cake. Their beef balls, however, not too much.

♡ Mango sago - Just a perfect way to cap off a heavy meal. Their mango sago is quite refreshing, with just the right amount of sweetness.

Xiu has a lot to offer, a cantonese restaurant that serves good chinese food, it’s main competitors are gloria maris and choi garden. Although the price is relatively higher than the others, this restaurant puts a twist on its dishes. The ambiance is good.

Food was hit or miss. Best to reserve in advance because their tables are full often

What I'd recommend:
1. Pumpkin and seafood thick soup: SO GOOD. One of the best pumpkin soups I've tried in a Chinese restaurant
2. Pacific style lapu-lapu, with light soy sauce: Typical, but the fish was fresh
3. US beef fillet, Chinese style: really tender, so good for old people who no longer have all their teeth
4. Premium Soy sauce HK chicken in clay pot: sobrang sarap ng sauce. Best eaten with white rice

What I wouldn't recommend:
1. Cantonese style pork belly: super letdown. It was pretty tough and the skin was just so-so
2. Pink shrimp Suahe: didn't taste fresh
3. Prawns with Salted egg: just alright. The prawn was huge, but nothing special
4. Polonchay with garlic: crunchy, which isn't good in my books
5. Fried noodles with BBQ pork and soy sauce: too oily
6. Hot taro soup with sago: very sweet with not enough taro

The food was simply amazing! Ordered typhoon style crab, pumpkin and seafood thick soup (highly recommend), black ink rice (so good), fried noodles with bbq, and pork belly and bean curd with shrimp paste (the only item which is not that good but not bad either). Also recommend the lotus ball and mango sago as dessert items. Service and ambience were both good.

Taste 5; ambience 5; service 5; price 5: A perfect 5. Our favorite is probably the mixed mushroom with truffle (which may not be very Cantonese). Finally just the right amount of truffle. If ypu are used to the commercial Cantonese food with overwhelming flavors, this is not the place for that. The food tasted fresh and with just the perfect amount of flavor and sauce. Surely will return to try everything on the menu. Servers were very attentive and knowledgeable and made extra effort to keep the table clean. The changed plates often and also covered your top with napkins if your sauce spilled. The place looked bright and clean and the linens were very white. My worry was the price because for the expensive stuff like crabs, fish, and prawns which they priced per 100 grams in fhe menu, we only spent P700 per person less 20% for cash discount. I guess if you have the appetite of an athlete just right after a long game, you’ll have to budget maybe 1000, but for the quality and taste of the food, plus great ambience and service, it’s well worth it. Five stars!

Tried xiu again after a while. Familyy had a small gathering at the private third floor dining area. It could accomodate 5-6 tables. There is also an open area to relax and walk around. A nice respite in a busy city. Food is good. A tad salty for some of the food items but generally good with the lapu-lapu and the mushroom with truffle oil leading the way. The sweet sour pork was tender and lightly battered. Quite perfect.

With my family, we celebrated the new year here at xiu. Inside the resto, it is very lavish and luxurious design as it is for fine dining. The price is just right (for a fine dining resto) and the food is great. The birthday noodles is very delicious. There is no regrets :)

Actual rating: 4.5

Xiu is one of the pricier Chinese restaurants that goes with the ranks of Choi Garden and Gloria Maris-Fine Dining. Needless to say however, their dishes are also as great! I’d say that its interior is even better than Choi Garden, less Chinese-y, but maintaining the majestic vibe of the place.

We had the roasted crispy pork for our first dish. It was a winner! The salty-herby flavor of the pork was present throughout the whole piece of meat, with the crunchy and brittle piece of pork skin topping it all off. I mean, it’s a normal dish, yet Xiu definitely stepped up its game.

The mushroom truffle pao was cute. It was mushroom shaped siopao with mushrooms and truffle essence in the inside. It was served hot and tender. It was cute. Well, you get what you expect.

The next came our half roast goose. My sister really liked it, although I felt that it was a bit overcooked. The meat was kinda tough, plus it wasn’t as juicy as I expected. I also found it kinda weird that they don’t sell duck.

We had yang chow fried rice, it was filled with pork and shrimp bits that contributed to its flavor. Although in my opinion, the fried rice was a bit too dry, they could improve on it pa.

The elephant mussels with vermicelli and garlic came next. It was amazing. The mussels were definitely fresh, plus the taste of the garlic and the sauces were exploding with flavors. Definitely a great dish.

Next came my personal favorite - salted egg prawns. The main shell was removed already, just leaving us with the tail and the head for aesthetics and perhaps if you wanna eat the inside of the head. The batter was definitely bursting of the salted egg flavor. It was even highlighted by the crunchy batter that came with it. Prawns were huge. I normally don’t sipsip the head, but this dish became an exception. Ang sarap pala? Hahaha!

Taro puff with scallops was my sister’s favorite. It was crispy and crunchy on the outside with a perfectly cooked scallop in the inside. Not really a fan of taro, but I appreciated this dish well.

For our mandatory noodles, we had the fried noodles with barbecued pork. It tasted like ordinary HK stir-fried noodles. We didn’t touch this dish as much, since marami namang ibang option. Haha!

Generally great experience, would definitely come back again.

Food is delicious. Service can be improved, we came here on a light day (All Soul's Day) so maybe they brought out the weak staff. We had to remind them to bring us water, tea, aNd condiments. They weren't that proactive.

Check out Xiù’s unlimited dimsum promo, Monday to Saturday, lunch time until August 31, 2018. Check out their website or Instagram account for the full mechanics. They have excellent quality dimsum! Pricier than regular dimsum restaurants so take advantage of this all-you-can-eat deal.

Their pork spareribs with tausi and hargao/ hakaw are excellent! Also my favorite is their ham sui kok which is like a deep fried mochi stuffed with pork - sweet and savory in one bite. And their fried spring is sooo good too unlike others that have wrappers that are too thick. Theirs are fried perfectly to a crisp yet not oily with the right ratio of wrapper to filling. The steamed bean curd roll and radish with XO are good too.

What I didn’t like so much were the beef balls, charsiu bao (siopao) and sadly, the chicken feet as well was not as good as I hoped them to be.

Price is ₱599+. Just try to compute how much you should consume to make it sulit because if you’re not that hungry then just enjoy their dimsum via ala carte order. Add ₱50+ for bottomless iced tea too.

Warning: They are strict with their rules so read the promo details first especially with the “no leftover” policy, only order what you can consume. But do order ahead if you feel like you can still eat more because it takes a bit of time for orders to arrive since they are not served trolley-style instead comes direct from the kitchen.

Ambience in the restaurant is excellent too, clean and spacious. Parking is convenient as there are more slots provided for customers at the empty lot across.

Enjoy!

This is my family and I’s new go-to Chinese restaurant! Great food, friendly staff, and an overall good dining experience. Yes it’s pricey, but for us, it’s definitely worth it!

We love ordering their Seafood Pumpkin Soup, Sweet and Sour Pork, and their Wok-fried Beef with Zucchini in Truffle paste! As for the dimsum, we especially like their Siomai, Beancurd Rolls, Hakaw, and their Chicken Feet. Definitely try all these for a satisfying dining experience!

For some reason, I’ve been going to Xiu very often lately. During my first visit, our bill was so high that my dad didn’t think of coming back soon, especially for no special occasion That time, it was a normal weekday lunch with my father and brother. Our orders included the Baked lobster with cheese shown on their menu, which cost around 12k. The price wasn’t indicated and I didn’t know that the order would be huge. That was my bad haha.

Me and my family decided to come back since aside from the fact that it is located at a walking distance from my house, there was no more hassle that came in getting seats. The hype went down dramatically so we didn’t need to reserve a table in advance.

We ordered the not so fancy and extravagant choices. I now find pleasure in the simple dishes they serve. Since then, I’ve been going to Xiu at least once a month.

The photos below were from two different visits this June. Some of the dishes we ordered were...

Truffle noodle (not yet on their menu) - It was simple and tasty. It tasted like the birthday/e-fu noodle, but with truffle. Although, I will try their other noodles/rice dishes during my next visit.

Singaporean Prawns (served with steamed and fried buns) - This tasted great. Very much recommended.

Sweet and Sour pork - We never not ordered this. I believe this is the best sweet and sour pork in town.

Mashed Taro puff with scallop and truffle - I was the only one who really enjoyed it. You can really taste the taro since its flavor was not over enhanced, and the dish was not over seasoned. The flavors were not unbalanced in my opinion. However, the big serving size makes it not feasible for me to order again next time, especially since I would have to eat it alone because my family wasn’t a fan of it.

Premium soy sauce HK chicken in clay pot - This is another crowd favorite. The chicken, especially the breast part, was very tender and savory. Recommended!

Prawns with Salted Egg - This will definitely be appreciated by salted egg fans.

Pumpkin and Seafood thick soup (no photo)- We all enjoyed this order. It had a lot of seafood and was easy to consume.

Steamed crab with shredded garlic and glutinous rice (no photo)- This wasn’t bad as well.

It really is distinct from the other Chinese restaurants I’ve been too, which is a lot since I come from a typical Chinese family. It’s something you need to try for yourself in order to understand what I mean.

Forgot to take a photo! We had laureate and everything was really good from appetizers to desserts. Service was a bit slow but I think it was due to their manpower shortage during the holiday but there’s really nothing else to complain here.

I really like this place. Xiu Fine Cantonese Dining has one of the best Char Siu's in the world. The pork was tender, moist, with good marbling and perfectly cooked. I felt like I was dining in HongKong it was divine!
We also had elephant clams with garlic vermicelli I really liked that dish.
We also had the squid ink paella (i don't recall the name of the rice) and i loved that too.
The salted egg prawn dish was average.
The steamed fish with bokni was very tender and moist and perfectly cooked too.
I also like the zucchini with mushroom vegetable dish and it was fresh, delicious and healthy.
The soft shell crab was also a winner!
I am definitely going to try the other dishes I have not ordered the other times I was there.
The servers were very polite and helpful.
The ambience was nice and well lit.
Nothing fancy with the plating and utensils. The fork and spoon were heavy but nothing I would fuss over.
No problem with parking.
This place is truly a shining gem in Connecticut.

Xiu has been making a lot of noise since it opened last week. Socialites and food bloggers have been posting their favorites on Instagram and I could not help but get curious. Luckily, I was not the only one eying this place. R's dad wanted to try it too and asked R to make reservation arrangements given that he knows one of the owners. But the place was fully booked on its first week so we had to wait for the following weekend. And finally, the wait was over!

The prices are a bit on the high end but the food is worth it. You definitely should try the Crispy Rice Soup, but do not take too much of the crispy rice, as it may be too hard on your teeth. Truffle mushroom and sweet and sour pork is also a must try. Service is excellent, in fact a chef has rejected a batch of food and cooked another dish that met their standards.

Also avoid the abalone... they charge so much for that, and you only get one piece.

Shut up and take my money 😂😂😂 Dining in XIU is expensive but oh so worth it!

On the table: sweet & sour pork, singaporean prawns, honey-glazed prime cut char siu, elephant shell w/ steamed vermicelli, pork spareribs sauteed in garlic, cantonese style crispy pork belly, mashed taro puff w/ scallop & truffle, mango pudding & mango & coconut cream.

My-Food-O-Meter:
taste: 5/5
price: 3.5/5
service: 5/5

I would have given this place a perfect 5, if not for the price. Worth the money, but still expensive. I've been here 2x and haven't ordered anything I didn't like. Sweet & sour pork was crunchy and tender, the char siu was soft, the spareribs was the best i've ever tasted. Nothing was too rich, too salty or too bland. It was just perfect. I'm not a fan of taro, but even I loved their taro puff. Out of everything I ate, the only disappointment was their pork belly, not because it didn't taste great, but bcoz i've tasted better. I'm trying to save up for my next visit haha. Every dish was delicious down to their dessert. A true fine dining experience, it kinda felt we had our own butler. It was truly a wonderful dining experience. You get what you pay for.

I'll be honest with you. I was a little sad when I saw that one of my favorite Chinese restaurants, Lugang, closed down their branch at Connecticut Ave. in San Juan. Sure there are other branches of Lugang conveniently located at malls around the metro, but the size of this branch, coupled with its convenient dedicated parking lot across the street, gave it a special place in my heart.

Had the privilege of being invited to dine here. The place has been buzzing since it "reopened" it's doors from being Lugang to this new elegant place Xiu. The whole placr was revamped. The menu - extensive. Really difficult to get a table without a reservation and from what i hear even reservations are a challenge. Enough about that. Let's talk food. Everything was basically pre-ordered (yes, it is recommended to pre-order) first up - Lobster with cheese sauce. Ok. The cheese sauce, when i saw it, i thought, gah looks sooo heavy. BUT. Omg. The sauce was super light and addicting!!! Complemented the lobster so well. If i had 10thumbs, all of them would be up 😂 there was beef = really good. Really tender beef with tendons too. Balsamic pork = amazing! Roast goose = 👍 (seriously, when is roast goose ever bad??) There was this shellfish special dish that the owner recommended = unique and quite tasty. The mushroom with truffle was also good (i was told - i dont eat mushrooms). The dark green veggie with bagoong was really tasty too. Goodness, we had so much food. Overall, i would say that aside from some of our veggie dishes not coming out and having to be followed up A LOT of times (quite understandable as they are on soft opening and the place was PACKED) the experience was so bad. Pricey but understandable for chinese/cantonese fine dining. Will definitely be back to try other dishes

I was able to visit Xiu this week during their media launch and was able to try several dishes.

Here are the dishes the I was able to try:

For appetizers, we had the Cantonese Style Crispy Pork Belly and the Honey-Glazed Prime Cut Char Siu. Both tender and flavorful, especially the Char Siu!

For soup, we had the Double-Boiled Fish Maw and Almond Soup, which is very creamy and refreshing.

For seafood, we tried the Baked Stuffed Sea Conch French Style, Baked Lobster with Cheese, Steamed Lapu-Lapu Traditional Style, and Wok-Fried Crabs with Garlic Typhoon Shelter Style. All of these dishes are very impressive, especially the Baked Lobster with Cheese, don't miss it when you visit Xiu.

For meats, we had the Premium Soy Sauce HK Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork and Stewed Beef Short Ribs, the Stewed Beef Short Ribs is heavenly with its meat that literally melts in your mouth!

For veggies, we had the Chinese Lettuce with Shrimp Paste, a simple yet delicious vegetable dish that I would love to have again.

For rice, we had the Baked Black Ink Rice with Seafood, a flavorful way to end our meal.

For desserts, we had the Longevity Balls and Hot Bean Soup.

Xiu is beyong amazing when it comes to authentic Cantonese cuisine. All the dishes were perfectly-prepared and the flavors are spot on.

I highly recommend that you visit Xiu. The prices are worth it.
