Aside from roastings, they also have Shabu-Shabu and other signatures diahes that one must try. Place is quite small and parking can be a problem. The staff was friendly and provided good service. They were out of lechon macau when we visited so I only got to try their pork asado and shabu shabu. We did like the asado - tender, flavorful, not overly sweet. As for the shabu shabu, I chose the malasate broth - a bit spicy, flavor not too strong. They have quite a good selection of balls for the shabu shabu.
Found our newest tipid sulit resto!!! π Perfect this typhoon weather! π¬β Being a fan of all things spicy, we ordered the Mala Sate Hot Pot!! You get to choose your own toppings (GET THEIR CHEESE BALLS IT'S SO GOOD)!!

Passion and love for food is what drives the owner to continue to explore and remake Asian dishes. This humble store may be tiny but it has a lot to offer. This place has been in the neighborhood for the past 3-4yrs, it takes good food to last this long in San Juan. Mala Tang's bestsellers include a choose your own toppings malasate hot pot and their signature roasted duck. Ambiance will make you enjoy the rainy season with your favorite soup or beer π
A small unassuming place situated here in san juan, the humble place looks old but cozy.
We ordered the classic Gulam-Mi, some of their roastings(asado, lechon macau, and white chicken), and a bowl of custom shabu shabu.
Let me start by saying that the Gulam-Mi did not disappoint! Having lived in binondo my whole life, I can say that even there, you will have a hard time finding a gulam-mi this good. The broth was so light yet flavorful, the noodles could be better though as it was a little too soft for me. The gulam(beef brisket and innards) was very tender and flavorful.
I never expected the roasting to be good as well, specially not here in san juan. But boy was I wrong! These roastings are all excellent, everything was done right from the juicy pork and perfectly crispy skin of the lechon, to the tender and succulent char siu. I can say they must know what they are doing with their meat!
For the shabu shabu, we asked for the satay broth which was light and soothing, the ingredients we chose complimented the soup, it wasn't very impressive but still good nontheless.
This place is definitely a must try!
A very satisfying hole in the wall Chinese restaurant. We ordered toasted duck and Soy Chicken, and they were both had good taste. They may even compare to those chain roasted duck restaurants! A lot of people order via phone and pick up the food as there are only 2 parking spaces, and very small dining space. The interior can use some improvement. Serving size is worth your money!
Definitely a go-to for Chinese cuisine! They arguably have the best LECHON MACAU in town - very crispy and soft at the same time. It's like heaven in my mouth.
Another must-try is the Shabu-Shabu soup. You get to choose the type of noodles, toppings, and flavor of the soup. I suggest you go with Sotanghon style noodles with a Mala-Sate soup base to go with your desired toppings. Mala-Sate is a mix of spicy and savory-salty soup base. I always make sure to get this together with my Lechon Macau every time I visit this place.
They are also famous for their roasted duck. If you're a fan of duck, go ahead and succumb yourself. Feasting on ducks is really not my thing.
Once you try this place, I'm pretty sure you'll be back for more!
The roast menu is very good.Β My friend ordered the duck and was pleasantly surprised of the taste and quality.Β We didn't try the shabu-shabu as the roast combo we ordered was good enough.Β Parking and accessibility (located in an often congested street) is a challenge so plan ahead.
I heard from a good friend that this particular dimsum house is the bomb. Last night, was the unhappiest moment ever because they don't serve those anymore. Oyster cakes were not available too. Ngoyong roll is a pork sausage filling wrapped in beancurd sheets, it's a street version of a Chinese Meatloaf, it's crispy and served hot. Nothing special with the seaweeds and noodle broth. Loved the mozarella balls tho.
For this small store, we didn't expect them to have good roast items. Around this area, they probably have the roast duck and lechon macau (come early before it runs out). Their ramen/noodle soup/hot pot is nothing special though. Rather plain.
Authentic Ramen. I was invited here by a friend. Not really a fan of ramen but it's a good place to eat this . Masarap sya. Simple lang yung place but if you're a big fan of ramen , this is a must try
After our games we headed to this hole in the wall resto in Greenhills. We were lucky to have the 2 car parking space empty..well it was 11pm already. The food was good. The yang chow has a lot of sahog (ingredients). It was a meal in itself. The dimsum is 30% off from 10pm to 2am. Will go back to try their shabu shabu.
I was craving for roast pork so we drove to this joint in San Juan, it's near Wilson St. Parking slot is good for 3 cars only.
About the food:
1. "Hot pot" but not really. We thought we will be given one of those stainless steel cooking implement where we can cook our own noodles, but the toppings we chose were all placed in a big bowl and served as in the picture. Taste wise, it was good though. We chose the sate flavor, which proved to be a wise choice.
2. Jellyfish (or seaweeds in their menu) was simple but tasty. I loved it especially when mixed with their chili sauce (this should be bottled! It was good!)
3. Roast pork: the bottom part was chewy. But the top half was g-o-o-d! The skin was simply crispy, yum! This was served with mustard which i did not use at all. This goes well with their hoisin sauce.
4. Beancurd roll - it was okay, not bad but i've had better.
-------------------
Update: tried their salt & pepper spareribs because lechon macau was sold out. It was good! ππ»
I love the shabu shabu i tried the 8 pieces dumpling cheese dumpling was good, tried fish balls, squid balls, lobster balls, crab sticks, crab dumplings, etc. Love the fried mantao with condensed milk. Had the wheatgrass drink as well. Not bad. They close at 2 in the morning.
When we saw an available parking slot, we took it! Those who have been there would understand this.
Since we have tried their hot pot before we decided to focus the roasts. We had asado (char siew), lechon macau and HK white chicken.
We both agreed that the roasts here are pretty good!! If you miss HK roasts, try out this place!
Only downside: parking!!!
A nice hole in the wall place for Chinese comfort food at a very affordable price. One has to wonder why the prices are a little low and so it got me thinking if this place was worth the trip and since I always see the place full of patrons I gave it a shot.
Ordered the duck, soy chicken & noodle soup with 6 choices of food balls. When the duck and chicken came I noticed that the meat portion was a little thin. I don't usually eat the skin but decided to try them both. For me the skin was the best part even though I only ate a few pieces however I needed more meat & wasn't about to substitute it with the skin.
The noodle soup was spicy & it was a tad bit too spicy for me even though I love spicy food. The noodles were good and the food balls were ok. Broth was tasty but then again the spiciness overpowered it.
Overall I wanted the duck and chicken to have more meat and it seems like the quality of meat they get is of below average to make their price point so low. The food was tasty and the staff was friendly.
Their Shabu Shabu with malatang brooth is sooo spicy but it was sooo good! Very affordable and the place was clean and simple. I will definitely come back. I also ordered pork asado and lechon macau and its a double thumbs up! I just wish that if you ask for additional soup for their shabu shabu, it should be free instead of charging additional fee.
Straight up good roasts.A quick fix; and roasts are almost always freshly made which gives it a distinct edge.Definitely a new gem in San Juan
We shared a bowl of their make-your-own hotpot with 8 pieces and it was pretty-good. The broth we used was a combination of the Malatang and Sate broths, as recommended by their server. This comes out to only P195 for the big bowl but if you start adding more, it comes out to P25 per piece which, in my book, is quite expensive. Imagine say, an extra squid ball priced at P25? I'd say P15 should be their maximum price for each extra ingredient. Nonetheless, we enjoyed this dish.
On the other hand, their roast duck topping priced cheap at P210 for the huge serving is one of the best duck toppings I've ever tried in the Metro at this price range. This is highly-recommended. Their new location along A. Mabini St near the corner of Wilson St is more spacious but parking could be an issue during peak hours as they only have 2 slots.
Making waves in the flavor department, this little place is. The sate soup pot is perfect for cold (or not) nights. You can personalize your pot the way you want it to be. The duck was fresh and boy was it good. You may get a hint of umami, but I won't blame the chef.
The place is puny, seating is limited and parking is a bitch. But give this little place a chance as it will grow on you.
Big things (flavor) come in small packages.
Why is this restaurant not that well known? The food is fantastic! This is the first time I tried this and I enjoyed it. They're open until 12AM so the late night stragglers can have their late dinner here.
I ordered the white chicken rice (it's yummy) and a medium hotpot (you choose 6 ingredients + noodles + soup).
Most of the customers eating there would leave saying "Ang sarap pala dito!" so it's definitely a must try.
Best thing about this place is it's open until midnight ππ try ordering the special hotpot, sate soup ππππ so yummy! Perfect for a cold night! Easy on the wallet too π
I'm not really a fan of noodles until I discovered this small, cozy and simple Chinese Resto near my place. The "make-your-own Shabu-shabu" is awesome. It gives you a variety of dimsums and soup. "Sate" soup is always my choice every time I dine here. That milky, spicy and sweety flavor really satisfies my palate. Plus, their Roasted Duck is incredible. The duck meat is tender and savory that will make you eat every piece of it. Mala Tang is always my weekend go to place. Highly recommended!
I'm so excited as i write this review. I can't believe i have not tried eating here earlier! the waitress said that they have been open for a year already. This place is awesome!
The place is decorated like street food eatery but it's well maintained and is actually air-conditioned. I walked to this restaurant from home and actually felt like I was in taiwan or hongkong eating at a street type restaurant. The place didn't have much seating capacity but the service was fast so I assume fast turnover. The service was top notch and the waitress taught me how to setup my customized shabu-shabu.Β
You grab a basket and choose the items that you want in the shabu-shabu including the noodles. the minimum is 4pcs with noodles at only Php 140! For the soup base, I opted for my favorite flavor which was sate. it was perfect! the only sate soup that satisfied me before was at gloria maris shabu-shabu and that place would cost you php 500/head at least! Β Β
The food here is very affordable. Even the more expensive options (the roasted meats) had generous serving sizes! I had the roast duck at Php 160. I felt like it was 1/8 of a duck but it couldn't have been because 1/4 of a duck should cost Php 450. maybe i just got lucky? or it's a very big duck!
I can't believe that this small street type shop might end up topping my all-time little baguio favorite HK eat fresh. They serve different types of food so I think I can consider this a tie and count them both as my favorites.
Nice place but very slow service. My girlfriend and I waited for almost 15 minutes for her pork and rice and for my shabu shabu. But it worth the wait. Very budget friendly and also cool ambience! Oh, they dont have parking space also.
first time to try here, im satisfied tho. their porkchop over rice is super sulit!! very reasonable ang price. yummy foods also. good job! ;)
