One of the cuisines that I miss eating so much while on community quarantine is Japanese cuisine. Unfortunately, the markets and groceries that are near our house don’t offer Japanese ingredients, so there’s no way for me and my family to cook any Japanese dishes. Just before this lockdown, I think I was eating Japanese dishes once or twice a week. I was even invited to an FMU at Soru Izakaya in Tomas Morato. I have visited Soru Izakaya in Burgos Circle in BGC a couple of times in the past, but this was the first time I visited one of their branches in QC.
Jellybeans In The City
+5
The enjoyment of food need not be a somber affair. This is quite apparent when dining at Soru Izakaya, the Japanese restaurant hidden in Quezon City’s Tomas Morato suburbs.
At Soru Izakaya, fun permeates everything.
Hotpot is superb, the soups are really tasty, full of flavor! Not to mention, they have accoustic nights every weekend which makes this place the perfect hangout place!
For as low as Php399 per head, you can now enjoy unlimited hot pot with a variety of meats and side dishes at SORU IZAKAYA in Sct. Torillo, Quezon City! Make your SORU NABE SPECIAL extra yummy by adding seafood for only Php499. Soru Nabe Special. I personally liked the sukiyaki broth paired with a slightly spicy tonkotsu. The thinly sliced meat cooked very quickly in the hot broth. I wasn’t able to keep track of how much I ate because we kept ordering more!
Interior looks great and IG worthy, especially their sushi's.
Sukiyaki is a bit sweet.
Loved the Salmon sashimi. Tofu steak with bacon is something you can try.
Spicy tuna salad is our usual favourite.
They also serve unli hotpot.
Alcoholic beverages are also available.
More than 10 cars for parking is a big plus.
Soru has been synonymous with beautifully plated sushi and maki rolls. Its intricate and colorful designs are just as anticipated as its dishes. But Soru has a lot more up its sleeves when it launched its hot pot menu. Soru recently opened a branch in Timog and it is a lot bigger compared to its other stores. It has a lot more parking space and even has an area dedicated to its new concept--hot pot.
For the residents of the north, Tomas Morato is a popular haven for different kinds of cuisine from restaurants lining the whole avenue. It is a place that harbors both traditional and modern styles of cooking with menus spanning the whole world, from Italian to Persian to Korean. Soru Izakaya, one of the restaurants I tried during my visit to Tomas Morato, takes Japanese cuisine to a different level by fusing the modern with the traditional.
There’s now a branch of Soru Izakaya in Quezon City, a modern Japanese restaurant known for its artistic plating of Maki.
Last weekend, our group had a Tomas Morato Food Crawl, and Soru Izakaya was our initial stop. We also went to Korean, Geonbae, and a speakeasy bar in Alibi. The same owners manage all three.
To kick off a colorful feast, we had three kinds of Sushi. The Lava Maki turned out to be a favorite with its salmon skin, crabsticks, and tamago wrapped in seaweed, topped with a spicy overflow of salmon and tuna cubes in spicy mayo and teriyaki sauce. The other two were Gyu Maki (beef strips + shiitake mushrooms) and Tori Kasai Maki, a chicken thigh spectacle made more exciting with kimchi and torched cheese.
We were also served two kinds of salad bowls, the modern Poke Bowl and the more traditional, Spicy Maguro Salad. The former had a sweet touch in mango, while the latter had a crunch through tempura flakes.
There were two kinds of entrees too! The uniquely curated, Tomahawk Katsu was a meaty treat, with or without an extra sauce. Others loved the Tsukemen for its dry noodle charm paired with a delicious, savory sauce.
One of the highlights of this visit was the Hotpot or the Soru Nabe Special. For as low as Php 399, customers have access to unlimited two choices of broth, pork, and beef cuts of meat, vegetables, plus all you can eat tempura, chicken wings, small donburi bowls, gyoza, and takoyaki. There is a Php 499 option for seafood lovers!
On desserts don’t miss out on having these duo- creamy Tiramisu and the Dark Choco Moist Cake with KitKat.
Thank you, Soru Izakaya, for this beautiful visit of Japanese meals. I will see you again here soon, for sure!
