Review by www.stefideeblogs.com 🥀
Korean cuisine has spread throughout the Metro for the past few years and is continuously doing so. With the Filipinos’ love for Korean dramas, we have learned to adapt to their cuisine, the exquisite taste of Korean barbeque or Samgyeopsal.
We Filipinos love eating a lot in restaurants, in buffets on special occasions like family gatherings or birthdays, or just an ordinary day to unwind. Just like Koreans, we also have a big appetite for meat. That’s why it is understandable why we love K-food as well.
Somewhere in the area of Tomas Morato in Quezon City lies a charcoal grill Korean restaurant, Geonbae Modern Bar & Grill. It is continuously emerging in the market, even though it has just been established last year. We tried it on a Sunday, as it opens at 11AM. Gladly, we made it inside immediately, since there wasn’t a queue.
What’s outstanding about Geonbae is their wide variety of meat choices, appetizers, entrees and stew. There are two set of menus: The P499.00 and P599.00. We chose the latter because of the larger selection of the food.
Meat choices include Samgyeopsal (Pork Belly), Spicy Yakiniku Samgyeopsal, Ginger Samgyeopsal, Gochujang Samgyupsal, Smoked Pork Belly, Spicy Yakiniku Pork Ribs, Spicy Yakiniku Moksal, Herb Pork Jowl, Pork Bulgogi, Pork Intestine, Sausage, Woo Samgyeop (Beef Belly), Oyster Woo Samgyeop, Gochujang Woo Samgyeop, Chadolbaegi (Beef Brisket), Galbisal (Rib Finger), Oyster Toshisal (Hanger Steak), Beef Bulgogi, and Ginger Chicken Breast.
Appetizers include Buldak Kimbap (Chicken Kimbap), Yachae Kimbap (Vegetable Kimbap), Fried Mandu, Steamed Mandu, Japchae, Tteokbokki (Spicy Rice Cake), Yeon Eo (Salmon Sashimi), Chamchi (Tuna Sashimi), and Kimchi Takoyaki. Entrees include Saewoo Twigim (Shrimp Fry), Galbi Jjim (Beef Stew), Ramyeon, Bibimbap, and Korean Wings. Soup and stew include Doenjang Jigae (Seafood Stew), Kimchi Jigae (Kimchi Stew), and Galbitang (Beef Rib Stew).
Minimum of two persons to avail the promo, while left over charge is P200.00. Cards and cash are accepted. Only 3 hours maximum stay.
FOOD
Okay, first things first, the food. What I love about Geonbae is, indeed, the quantity of food choices. The servings per plate weren’t that much, so what we did was to try anything that we could. We honestly don’t have the biggest appetite, but we tried our best (LOL).
My top picks for the meat are Woo Samgyup(Beef Belly), Galbisal (Rib finger), and Oyster Toshisal (Hanger Steak).
Can I just say that the Hanger Steak was my ultimate favorite among the meat? It was really tender and juicy 🙁 The sausages are actually great, too, by the way!
For the appetizers, Yeon Eo (Salmon Sashimi) and Chamchi (Tuna Sashimi) were my favorites! I also liked their Saewoo Twigim(Shrimp Fry) and Japchae! We always taste first the Kimchi in every Korean restaurant that we go to, and here, it was good. Meanwhile, Tteokbeokki, which is one of my favorite Korean side dishes, didn’t excite my palate.
Lastly, they have unlimited cheese! And did I say I was very addicted to it? So far, it’s the best cheese I have tasted in Korean restaurants. Tip: It went really well with the Galbisal! A must try!
LOCATION / AMBIENCE
Geonbae is located 115 Scout Delgado Street, Brgy. Sacred Heart.
There’s a parking space for those who want to bring their cars. Meanwhile, the space inside isn’t that big. But considering that lines are forming already because they’re increasing popularity, I guess they might have to enlarge the place?
For the dining tables, there are those for groups with one grill (for families or barkadas) and those for sharing with two grills (for two persons, like couples or you and your best friend).
STAFF / SERVICE
Upon arriving, the staff immediately catered us, took our orders, and prepared our table. We were able to dine in just 5 minutes after arriving at the place.
One thing I’d like to comment is the service while we were dining was quite slow, considering there are enough staff to cater their customers. Some of our orders were served for quite long (same as the table beside us), and some were wrongly served as well. Good thing is that after some customers talked to them about that matter, they listened to their customers and handled it professionally. With the restaurant being new, I’m pretty sure there’s always a room for improvement.
OVERALL REVIEW
I think that Geonbae is good to dine in. Despite the concerns seen in the restaurant, the food is worth trying! If you want to try lots of unlimited meat and other dishes that are not typically found in other unlimited Korean restaurants, I’d say pay a visit at their branch now!
