What can I say? The stuff here is All Time Five Star.. ALL THE TIME. Totally comfortable, Food is precise and rich enough. The Fiesta platter is every cent your money's worth if you want to gorge and devour. The new eat all you can meal is the absolute bomb! I always have it with that fresh magma called habanero sauce to transform it into its fine nuclear version. This place has been ten years in, The next ten years will age it like the best wine there ever will be, ya know what im sayin?. Don't hesitate, this place shakes, taste buds lucidate!
The food here, compliments of the Chefs (Chef Tom, Chef Carlo & Chef Boogie - love these guys!) is done just right, whether it be the chicken dishes, the beef dishes - even their soups are very tasty! I've eaten here with my wife, as well as with my entire family, a number of times (the Fiesta Platter is definitely worth it, especially for families) and they simply deliver good, tasty, hearty and no nonsense South American fare. It's been an institution in the Maginhawa Food Street scene YEARS BEFORE the scene existed, and no wonder. I would recommend this place to anyone who knows their food. The staff is always accommodating and I always walk away feeling that I got more than my money's worth. Oh, don't forget to try their cupcakes (by Gremlins - love the name! Thanks, Chef Odjie!) - a perfect way to punctuate your meal and satisfy your sweet tooth. They always sell out, from what I understand, so order promptly to get the flavor of your choice. A wonderful little place that everyone should discover. Kudos and keep up the good work. -- Wills
Great value for your money! It's cozy and the staff is very friendly. The slow cooked pork belly platter is a fave, I love their classic burrito and ribs as well! A must try for sure.
Love the ambience! Good for chilling and having good conversations with friends and family because of the coziness of the place. The food was supeeerb! Looove the short ribs. Kalas-buto! The roast beef and rosemary chicken were also delicious! Their servings are quite generous, and expect to wait a while for your food especially if there are a lot of customers. But the food was worh the wait. :) will definitely come back here and try their pasta. :)
PS. They do pick-ups and deliveries! They also have platters good for parties!
Amazing and affordable food. Once we've tasted it, we kept coming back. The best Mexican/Latin American food in Maginhawa bar none. Look no further folks.I suggest the beef short ribs if you're trying them out for the first time. I'm ordering dinner here once I'm finished writing this review.
P.S.
They offer free delivery.
Best restaurant in Maginhawa and highly recommended! They now have delivery service :) all time favorite- nachos, burritos and pork ribs! 👍👍👍👍

Cocina Juan arguably has the biggest patio to offer in Maginhawa st. Food is okay and sometimes good. This is a case where you go here to relax in the garden with friends. Its the garden setting Im buying ladies and gents. The food is just bonus.
Churrasco fiesta!!! Ole!😜
If you have been to Maginhawa St, you have surely passed by this nondescript resto, identified by the red chili in front. It's been here for years, but it's not as popular as, say Crazy Katsu or Pino... But it is a good place to hang out, very affordable, decent food and super chill! 👌👍👌👍
Cocina Juan's original location was still in Maginhawa street but the place was a little smaller compared to their new place.
Like any establishment in Maginhawa, Cocina Juan's new spot is a typical residence converted into a restaurant. Most of the dining area are situated in an open space, more like a garden setting with trees, plants, and some hanging lights.
The table and chairs are still wood-type (just like before) but somehow comfortable...at least for me.
I ordered Quesadilla Con Carne and Pork Belly with Chimichurri. The Quesadilla was good but the meat was a bit salty. I like the Pork Belly. It was served in style. I'm not quite sure what the sidings were but it tasted like crunchy spinach and crispy, thin potato sticks. The meat was tender and flavorful. It hs that sweet taste. The serving though was adequate for one person...not really advisable for sharing.
Overall, their food are good. Can't wait to try more of their dishes especially their taco and burrito.
I first tried Cocina for their cupcakes, which was a good deal since it was just around 50 PHP. I tried red velvet and a chocolate cupcake, definitely soothed my sweet tooth.
The second we tried Cocina, they had no CHICKEN (a predicament on our side: deeply saddened us up until know) so we ended up eating HUNGARIAN SAUSAGE (sad). They serve large meals so being full wasn't a problem, yet the pain of the lack of chicken still lingers.

while exploring maginhawa, with other set of friends, we're looking for an affordable restaurant that will satisfy our tummies. And gotcha we got here! Cucina ni Juan. Obviously filipino food. but we're surprise on the food. Whoa we ordered barkada package with costs 800+ as i remembered haha we're four by the way haha. So we ordered , chicken fillet with spinach leaves that was so crunchy and pork. and our dessert was macaroni salad which was the one I loved here and potato salad :))) ambiance was nice but there will come an instance that some kiddo (street children) will go into you and ask for money.
I am lazy on Lazy Sundays. I am even lazy to eat on Lazy Sundays! Given that I hardly go out on Sundays, I eat really late. I normally skip breakfast so that I’ll just have a big lunch. It became a habit that I find difficult to break. Hence, whenever I go out on Sundays, I’d leave my place with an empty stomach and just a few minutes away from being grumpy. (Unless I bring a carton of milk with me to last me an hour or two.)
A few Sundays ago was supposed to be a Fishing Day at La Mesa Eco Park. But V and I were surprised to be greeted by a fishing pond that seems to be owned by Shrek. We cannot see a single fish. Well, there were a few kids “fishing” but I bet these kids were there for hours. Plus, there were falling branches that made things quite scary for us. So after a few minutes of staring at the pond/Shrek’s swamp, we decided to go to Maginhawa instead.
I was 10 minutes away from being a “hANGRY” cat lady when we finally decided to go for Cocina Juan. The place looks charming with its bright red wall and there were only two tables occupied.
The server assisted us to our table and promptly gave us the menu and recommended some dishes. We went for the Churrasco Nicaragua (PHP439) as the server mentioned that this one isn’t spicy. I also got a glass of Cucumber Lemonade (PHP65) simply because it sounds so refreshing. Since I was really hungry and starting to show some symptoms of bratinellism, I asked the kind waiter to choose an appetizer for us as I do not want to think anymore. He chose the Quesadilla Con Tomate (PHP189).
Service was quite quick and we immediately attacked the Quesadilla Con Tomate. The quesadilla was generously stuffed with cheese and tomatoes which was delightful. I didn’t even have to add salsa as it was already tasty as is.
The Churrasco Nicaragua was indeed made for sharing. It was served on a long plate with roasted beef, pork sausages, chicken, Gallo Pinto Rice with salad as a side dish. It was also served with the parsley-based sauce they call chimchurri. (The other version of this has Chimal sauce which has pepper flakes.)
It sure was value for money. The meat were flavorful and even the salad was great! I also enjoyed munching the fries.
True enough, the Cucumber Lemonade was refreshing. I love cucumber! (Trivia: Did you know that the cucumber diet is one of the best diets around? But make sure that you don’t end up just with cucumbers as it has low calorie content.)
I would definitely go back to Cocina Juan if I want some affordable quesadilla. I’ll also give Cupcakes by Gremlins a try.
