My dad definitely has an affinity for restaurants that are quite odd to the palette. We're so used to eating things that we're familiar with that our tastebuds never really develop. He introduced me to Ya Kun Kaya, which offers a French Toast dipped in a poached egg and coffee pressed in a sock, definitely something that we're not used to. But when you taste it, it does make sense. The buttery and crisp French toast paired with the rich poach egg just seemed to be an unusually good flavor. Their coffee seemed to be a best seller, and if you're lucky, you get to see how they make it. Now test your tastebuds and try this place for yourself—maybe you'll enjoy it as much as my dad does.
Not many places offering Kaya Toast, a Singaporean staple snack. It is made of a spread called kaya which is a jam mixture of coconut and eggs. This is then sandwiched with two buttery bread toasted evenly till golden brown. For its optimum taste, you can dip this on soft boiled eggs and dark soy. Yum.
On this trip we tried also their Peanut Butter Banana Toast. If the usual is already good, this one is a notch higher. Who doesn't love the combination of sticky, salty and sweet peanut paired with fresh and soft bananas?
I also had a bowl of their Chicken Sa Po Fan. It is a traditional Chinese piece usually cooked on a clay pot. Their version is simply amazing. I had the bowl consumed in less than 5 minutes. The meat was super soft and well flavored with spices!
Oh and don't forget to have Kopi here. It is a strong piece of black coffee and I suggest mixing it with some condensed milk to fight it out. Watch out for the caffeine.
I have yet to try their signature sandwiches but I've already fallen in love with their meals! My favorite is their chicken sa po fan (basically chicken claypot rice), made even better with ther own iced milk tea that can be added to any rice or noodle meal for just 10 pesos more.

Ya kun kaya toast has the best kaya toast and pulled coffee combination! The toast is crisp and evenly toasted with the right amount of sweetness of the kaya spread and butter. I'm a coffee lover and their pulled coffee always makes me visit their resto
A good friend of mine told me about this place, I tried the Aloha Toastwich, ordered the combo meal which includes coffee and 2 soft boiled eggs , at first I find it quite weird (presentation) with the 2 soft boiled eggs (put some pepper on top) taste so good!! i love it.
Their kaya toast game is on point. The bread is toasted just right, and the kaya spread isn't too sweet. Their soft boiled eggs are also a favorite, perfect with a dash of pepper and some light soy sauce.
If you're looking for some Singaporean breakfast, this is the way to go. The place does not really look nice, but it makes up for the food!
I had some Cheesy French Toast with Kaya, soft boiled eggs and coffee, all for 160 php.
At first glance, the food serving seems little but it is actually very filling. The Kaya was really good! It wasn't too sweet and was creamy ; it really goes well with the bread. Not such a fan of soft-boiled eggs but they tasted better with some seasoning, like with a dash of pepper and some light soy sauce. Balancing the sweet taste of the bread and the savory taste of eggs is the coffee, which is rich and a bit bitter. Waiting for the food didn't take long. I haven't tasted their rice meals but I'll definitely go back for some bread and kaya.
My sister introduced me to this and I was glad she did. Maybe it is my biased opinion to say that this place is great because I love eggs and toast but the meal was great. Imagine this, poached egg, soft whites and creamy yolk, flavored with a nice light soy and toasted bread with coconut jam and butter spread, sprinkled with brown sugar. It is not just imaginary, it is real! It is a staple breakfast for Singaporeans and Malaysians. I don't blame them, who wouldn't want to wake up to that? If you hadn't tried it, please do, because it is great.
I love their soft boiled eggs! It's a must try for first timers. Their toasts are delicious also especially when you pair it with coffee or tea with condensed milk.
My curiosity towards Malaysian coffee & breakfast, which has recently taken the coffee scene in Manila by awe, ended at Ya Kun Kaya Toast…Alas! It was a good one!
To be honest, it was initially challenging browsing through their wide variant of toasts & beverages. Was intrigued by their version of “ Kaya “ ( dip made out of coconut ) which is a known staple in Malay & Singaporean morning & snack fixes. Was pretty cool that they carry value sets, making good sense of the breakfast concept. I took a stab at the Butter Sugar toast and was automatically locked in! The toasts were crazy crunchy brought by the caramelized sugar massively sprinkled on each side of the toast. The butter was overpowering, where some bites felt like taking a teaspoon full but was manageable and still brought out that desired sweetness & creaminess
The Peanut Butter toasts tasted very homy, taking me back to summer days at Grandma’s. I liked that it had real peanut bits augmenting the thick spread while the sprinkled sugar validates the sweetness of the treat. My kids went gaga over the Cheesy French Toast as a combination of everything I had on my toasts except the PB but with oozing cheese melt & cream. I’d say this was the clincher that went really well with their traditional Malaysian coffee concoction. Each value set costs P150 which includes 2 slices of indulgent toasts, cup of coffee or tea and of course, the Kaya which by all means, was the ultimate reinforcement & signature to all the toasts we took in.
They maintain an interesting roster of beverages both hot & cold. For me, the Yin Yang, which is a combination of coffee & tea was definitely an ace. They also got the Frost Tea which is a weird combo of Tea & Milo but is likewise insanely good! To complete the whole shebang, a nice warm order of poached eggs for an extra P40 just hits the spot! Authentic Malay breakfast experience! Service is fast, staff are friendly, serving portions can be bigger but enough to fill up a mildly hungry foodie. This is certainly a good spot to grab a quick morning or afternoon bite but not somewhere one can sit back & enjoy a literature
