We were around Ortigas area and was looking for some place to have quick snack at around 9:30pm before heading home. Decoded to try our luck at Metrowalk and passed by Nommu.

We ordered Salmon Sashimi, California Maki, Pork Yakitori and Wagyu Beef Yakitori. We have quickly eaten some of them before taking a photo! Their food was good and reasonably priced.

They also have a small room with videoke should you decide to have some private party or simply want to sing your heart out while enjoying Japanese food!

The interior design was very consistent with their Japanese theme. I believe it managed to set itself apart from many other "authentic" Japanese restaurants/bars by giving a more retro feel rather than a classical Japanese ambiance. The food and drinks were on par for the price. Those looking for truly Japanese cuisine should look elsewhere, but again, it's likely that most people don't go to this area for such. Aside from the design, the real winner (or winners) are the delightfully friendly staff. They deserved every piso of our big tip. Hope there would be a more robust selection of sake in the future!

We came a little before 9pm and got the surprise of our life! Buy 1 take 1 on orders of tempura! So for P280 we got 10 huge shrimps and 2 bowls of delicious tempura sauce. We really got a good deal so this review is going to be super biased.

My friend tried the matchacotta and was sincerely happy. And another friend got a don buri which he devoured in the car. He was hungry so maybe it was crazy delicious.

Service was awesome too.

Ambience was nothing spectacular but I love how spacious the restaurant was.

Will be back to give a better review.

Nommu is a restobar that serves Japanese fusion cuisine. They also have a branch in Tomas Morato, but it wasn't until my visit with The Food Crawlers that I finally got a taste of what they have to offer. That evening, we met up with owner Natasha Reyes who had us try some of their bestsellers.

Spicy Tuna Sashimi (P225)
I COULD NOT GET ENOUGH OF THIS. It's no ordinary sashimi since the tuna is mixed with tempura flakes and Japanese mayo, which reminded me of my other favorite - Teriyaki Boy's Tempura Tuna Tartare. It could have used more tempura flakes in my opinion, but I love the generous servings of tuna in this one.

Volcano Roll (P285)
What's in it: salmon, ebiko, teriyaki sauce, cheese. It's definitely my kind of maki. As much as I love the regular california maki, I couldn't say no to this one because of all the CHEESE! Some people might consider this to be too saucy, but that's exactly what I like about it. This is one of the dishes I'm definitely coming back for at Nommu.

If you find yourself in the Ortigas or Metrowalk area, one of the best places to grab a bite to eat before heading home is Nommu. There are a lot of items on its menu, and here are the ones that I highly recommend that you get.

Nommu is a resto-bar that started in Tomas Morato that became successful enough to branch out for in Metro Walk. Here the place is bigger, with a rather sophisticated ambiance compare to other neighboring bars within Metro Walk. specialized in Japanese fusion dishes that cater to the Filipino palates. And they are also good to pair with drinks they offer.

Some of the food and drinks that we tried:

Crispy Chicken Teriyaki – Breading of the chicken was perfectly fried to crisp while retaining the tenderness of the chicken. It complemented the sweet and salty taste of the Teriyaki sauce. Great alternative for the usual greasy chicharon bar chows.

Garlic Saikoro Steak – I like the garlic-ness of the dish with perfectly cooked the beef steak cubes (still juicy and soft). It comes with stir-fried veggies on the side and light sauce poured over it for a bit of wetness to the dish.

Volcano Roll – It is also presented like an active volcano with maki on top of each other to form a pyramid and generously drizzled with cheese sauce and teriyaki sauce that looks like magma pouring over the crater. While not really at par with some of finest Japanese restaurants in terms of taste. It will definitely fill your and your barkadas’ tummy with the generous serving of the dish.

Uzura bacon Yakitori - Bacon wrapped quail eggs. How can this go wrong? You just have your favorite drink on hand and you’ll surely have a perfect night. And it’s only P 220 for 12 pcs.

Negima Yakitori – grilled skinless chicken on sticks a bit of healthy pica-pica or viand. It was grilled a bit dry that night but generally okay. Don’t go overboard with the dip! Try to taste it first by lightly dipping on it as their sauce is rather thick and concentrated that too much of it might make the meat too salty for you.

Spicy Tuna Sashimi – generous serving of tuna mixed in Japanese mayo and wasabi for that spicy kick. I would like it if it had more of those crispy tempura batter bits and the tuna more fresh.

Sensei Passionate Mojito – I like how well they blend the rum with citrusy sweetness of passion fruit and cranberry juice that the tast of rum is not too strong but you can still fill the kick and heat of it when you drink it.

Lychee Blossom Sangria – They mixed real lychee in it with some orange juice and fresh lime and of course red wine. It will be a sure it with the ladies.

For their cocktails they also serve it in carafe for sharing.

They do also have karaoke room for 1,500/hour consumable. Every Wednesday they bring in DJs to do music mixes and bands on Thurdays and Fridays. And every Sunday they have a drink-all-you-can on selected cocktails for only P369.00

It’s a go-to place hang-out in Metrowalk especially if you wanted to treat yourself and your barkada in a really nice sophisticated ambiance and enjoy affordable Japanese food and great selections of cocktails, alcohols and even wine.

I had the opportunity to be invited by the restaurant owner, via a foodie meet up from Zomato, to try out the restobar's best sellers, and I happily obliged.

Nommu is a restobar that serves Japanese fusion cuisine. It has a wide range of menu items catering to every tastebud. From appetizers to salads and soups, from Japanese classics like sashimi and ramen to your favorite Japanese-inspired bar chows, they have everything to fill you up even during the wee hours in the morning as they close as late as 3am. This branch just opened last March 2015.

With a classy ambiance, and a different style of music to pump you up every night starting 10pm, here are the best-sellers that I've tried to give you an idea on what's hot and what's not in this restaurant:

Cranberry Cooler (Php130) : a drink that cools your sizzling hot day. Made with cranberry, grapefruit, and lime, all ingredients can be tasted in this drink. Refreshing too! Definitely HOT!

Ebi Spring Rolls (Php240) : 6 pcs of tender prawns marinated with hervs and wrapped in a crispy wrapper. Your favorite lumpiang shanghai but with shrimp and an awesome dipping sauce. Could use some vegetables to give some freshness to the dish. But overall, HOT!

Tuna Filo (Php250) : fresh coriander encrusted tuna then filo wrapped and fried, served with sesame mayo dressing. Looked like Beef Wellington but with raw tuna. Instead of complementing, the taste of the tuna and the filo got separated. The filo was oily, maybe baking the buttery crust might be better? Coriander can be seen around the tuna, but looked stale and cannot be tasted. Going to give a NOT on this one.

Ika Nota (Php210) : a favorite appetizer, these blanched squid cutlets are dressed in miso and served with seaweeds. The squid has been cooked perfectly and the light miso dressing adds a good flavor to the dish. The seaweed gave a new flavor and freshness. Definitely a HOT one here!

Calamari Salad (Php240) : another of my favorite! Crunchy breaded squid rings tops some mixed green salad with a ginger dressing. I love that they use a light dressing of sweet and sour, instead of a creamy version that would push the the calamari off the plate. Definitely a great appetizer to start off any meal. HOT!

Chicken Teriyaki (Php220) : grilled boneless chicken cutlets with a crrrunchy skin sitting on a pool of sweet-salty teriyaki sauce. A good dish but too salty for me. So, I'll give a semi-HOT on a this one.

Yakitori Platter (Php480) : got friends coming over? This should get the party started! 4 sticks of the most tender negima (chicken), 4 sticks of succulent butabara (grilled pork belly), 4 sticks of tomatoes wrapped in bacon, and 12 of the cutest quail eggs. If you want to know what heaven feels like, try this platter, and if you want to know what love feels like, you can order them separately on their yakitori menu, just don't leave out the tomato bacon. HOT!

Spicy Tuna Sashimi (Php220) : a disappointment on this dish. Batter bits too oily; Japanese mayo do not have the right blend; Fresh tuna too fishy; chili flakes did not really blend with the mixture. Has a kick though. Definitely a NOT on this dish.

Oh by the way, if you want to customize on the dressing of their dish, they offer 9 different sauces for you to get acquainted with. That's 9 times the fun!

Tokwa't Baboy (Php220) : your favorite local bar chow comes with a sweet tempura sauce. A little WARM on this one.

Volcano Maki : salmon maki piled high like a volcano with oozing cheese lava and other sauces. A heavy and filling dish, but full of umami love. HOT!

Their cocktails are good and will definitely help you chillax.

Overall, food price is very affordable compared to the good quality they offer. The place is spacious and homey. They open late so it is a good place to go from a post-movie date date. Toilet is clean. Plus, it's in Metrowalk, so that means FREE PARKING!

I am very interested to visit this restaurant again in the near future.

Nommu, literally means 'to drink'. It was derived from the word, nomumasu. Nommu has been at Tomas Morato for a long time. Their place si small and can be easily missed, as compared to metrowalk, which has a bigger seating capacity.

As I was speaking to the owner, they bought the whole concept from the brainchild of nommu and revamped the menu by adding new food items to offer. They now specialized in Japanese-Fusion dishes that fits the pinoy palette.

We got the bestsellers, as according to the owner.

Garlic Saikoro steak. It was seared beef cubes served with sauteed vegetables and a sauce. The beef was tender and seasoned well. It was cooked just right.

Uzura Bacon Yakitori is basically grilled, seasoned pork then served with a yakitori sauce on the side. The yakitori was overcooked and was a little dry outside. The sauce was too thick that can become salty when dipped too much. The sauce was nice, sweet, savory, but salty for my taste.

Spicy Tuna Sashimi was just lacking some flavor. It was chopped tuna with Japanese mayonnaise topped with tempura bits. I prefer my tuna with alot of tempura bits to give it a nice crunch and texture and to balance of the mayo. It also lacks thin slices of scallions, that doesn't just ad color, but also flavor to the dish. Lastly, I hope next time they would have a better tuna supplier, because it wasn't as fresh as i was expecting. It tasted nothing, no fishy tuna aroma.

Crispy Chicken Teriyaki. It was fried chicken thigh fillet that was dressed with teriyaki sauce. I like the crunchiness of the chicken taht was perfectly complimented with the sweet-salty-teriyaki sauce. This was my highlight for the night.

Volcano Roll. It was tempura batter, fried salmon maki roll dressed generously with teriyaki and cheese sauce. At first glance, it was drowned with both sauce. It was just overflowing. The maki was crunchy on the outside, but can't really taste the filling until I broke it open to see whats inside. I find the maki too sweet and can't really taste the cheese sauce. I think this is for beer match to compliment its strong flavor with a glass of beer.

Lychee Blosson Sangria was the best drink I had. It was served in a carafe. It was sweet, tropical-fruity with an after taste of red wine. The best part is, it has whole lychees that is soaked in the cocktail.

Sensei's Passionate Mojito was also good. It is nice, citrusy. The fruity flavor masks the taste of the rum, which is really good. As a person who dislikes the taste of rum.

Overall, Nommu has the potential to be known as a Japanese bar, but needs to improve on some of their menu items and really explore who and what Japanese cuisine is all about.

Good place to meet the Barkada over drinks and food. The inside section is secluded from the live-band area and allows for food conversation and catching up.

Besides decently priced beer buckets the Margaritas and some of the other cocktails (like passionate mojito and rising sun) are good, albeit too sweet.

Japanese style food is decent. We had beef and tuna teppanyaki, Yakitori platter and tori karaage. All dishes were quite good.

Good place for small groups.
