While in the area of BF Homes with my family one Sunday, we opted to have some Spanish cuisine for our late lunch and ended up in Las Paellas Cafe - renovated a few months back on Aguirre Avenue.
Appearance-wise, the exteriors are simple and straightforward while the interiors, even more so. The place is well-lit, clean and can seat several big groups as most of their food seems to be family-style or for sharing.
Service-wise, the staff were kind, courteous and efficient. The only awkward thing was that they had about three staff members sitting in one table near the counter (on break I assume) who wouldn't even acknowledge us even if we had a difficult time calling someone over.
Food-wise, we thoroughly enjoyed everything that was ordered:
Oysters Rockfeller (P295)
Our starter was a plate of six oysters, baked in bechamel sauce with mozarella and bacon. Considering that only three out of the five in our group wanted this - it was a good side-dish.
Clam chowder soup (P175/cup)
There is an option to get this in a bread bowl, but from prior experiences we opted to get a cup to taste instead. It was a hearty serving and very tasty as well.
Chorizo Sisig (P335)
Probably the best thing we got, the pork sisig mixed with Spanish chorizo and egg on a sizzling plate had great flavour and texture. We scraped it clean!
Marinara (P545) | Negra (P545)
One order was good for 2-3 people, so we got two types of paella. The red - saffron rice with clams, mussels, shrimps and fish and the black - squid ink paella with grilled squid and garlic mayonnaise. The red was really good with just the right amount of protein to rice, while the black actually seemed a but underwhelming as it had almost a soup-like texture to it and the taste of alcohol was slightly evident. Still, we ate finished them up.
Over-all, I am giving this restaurant a 4.0 for the quality of their food was definitely worth the price. The service could use some improvement but was far from disappointing. I do look forward to possibly coming back and would definitely recommend this place to Spanish-loving foodies.
I got caught up with the hype on this, for months I thought that Las Paellas was the ultimate paella place and then the day came when we dined at Las Paellas and we were satisfied but not as much as we expected to be. The Paella was good but its nothing spectacular that would wow you. Lets just say Ive had better. The rice didnt have the flavor that I was expecting. It kinda fell a little flat of my expectations. Needless to say, I think this is a great place to go to just not the want that you will rave about.
Their paellas were good, initially we wanted Negra but it wasn't available. Frozen Bravo was also great. Nice staff but, yeah not much to rave about.
