Food was great and so was the ambiance. When we went there our only qualm was that the waitresses were blatantly new to the food service industry, was extremely slow in taking orders, and even forgot some of our orders. Given that everything else was excellent and I don’t want to give them a bad review solely because of the incompetence of the staff, I highly recommend this place.
Been to the place. Service was good. Servers were alert and caring. Food delivery to table is fast. A perfect example of Japanese culture in a restaurant. A must try for people!
Great service! Great food! Great place! Great people! If you want to experience an authentic japanese dining experience in BF Homes Pque, Shima is the place to go. It's at the heart of BF, you will not miss it. Thanks, Shima! I will come back for sure.
Great food, great ambiance and great service. I would definitely go back for their sushi
the owner is very accomodating! good food ....good company.....

Ordered the Shima special, salmon skin roll, chahan (fried rice), tempura, cold udon, okonomiyaki, etc. It was so DELICIOUS and AUTHENTIC. The chefs are genuinely from Shima, Japan. You can taste that they didn’t scrimp on ingredients. I had mine delivered. The presentation in the delivery crates were still impeccable. They still managed to do some good plating on it. The sushi rolls are really great! Even in delivery, they didn’t spoil and they still taste fresh. Shima Eats is very creative with sushi rolls. I want to try the sushi donut next time. I was surprised that after I did the online order through the website, and paid via GCash, they already processed it and the order was on the way. I got mine in time for lunch. No delays! The staff were also very kind and accommodating. (Please leave at least a 10% tip because they’re working hard!) I would highly recommend Shima Eats because I could have that authentic taste of Japanese food I had in Japan even at home. I wish I could dine there but I’m still mostly at home now.
Wide variety of food to choose from. Food is pretty good esp their ebi maki. Large seating capacity. Great service, good ambiance.👍
Been here twice, the staff were adequately accommodating. The price for the food were reasonable and I love that they maintained the homemade taste of the dishes.
I really like their Hawaiian Rolls and will try their Kitsune Udon on our next visit.
Food is great! If you miss authentic sashimi and sushi from your Japan trip, this is where you go.
Shima is a definite must try if you're into authentic Japanese cuisine! The owner was also very accommodating. The price may be a little high, but trust me the experience was worth it! Get their sukiyaki and I promise you that there'll be a little surprise at the end.
Came here for dinner with my family. Service was alright, quick too. Their sashimi tasted good - we were all just surprised by how thick the sashimi slicer were. They were probably 2x the regular size. Their spicy tuna wasn't that special. I believe they could've presented it better too bc it just looked sad. Their Hawaiian rolls looked very appetizing, but didn't taste like it. The flavors were just weird. The Yasai itame was cooked well and their gyudon was really good - I love how the sauce tastes with the rice YUMMMM. Their tempura and karaage had a good crunch and taste to it. Their Sukiyaki was weird. They ask if u want them to cook it or if we'll do it by ourselves. We let them do it and they had a separate bowl of just the meat, just the soup, a raw egg, and all the veggies and noodles. We asked them how do we eat it?? Bc we order sukiyaki a lot in many Jap restos but everything is together?? She said u get the meat, dip it in the egg and eat it? Wtf weird. She said the same for the veg too. Idk if she was just misinformed or what but it was very strange to us so we just mixed it all together like we normally do. Other than that, everything was above average. Not a bad price too for the amount of food we got.
Best Japanese food in the south so far !!! Staffs are friendly even Sato ! Regular customer here! Must try are tantanmen, tuna roll and tuna salad. Negima and yakisoba ! Also try their okonomiyaki prepared by Sato itself !
A hidden gem. Great quality, fair price. Sushi rolls and sashimi were good. Yakiniku was great. Definitely my new go-to place for Japanese food in the south.
Dined here last night with my mom. The food was good. We ordered 3 kinds of sushi rolls (Shima special, Tempura special and another one... Can't remember the name) and kakiage. The Tempura Special was great and also the other one, just can't remember the name. The Shima Special (4pcs only) wasn't really that good. It wasn't bad but the other two were far better. Kakiage was just... Basic.
Anyway, really enjoyed the sushi rolls. Would've rated 5 stars but service was slow. They had this bell on the table which you press when you need service and had to press 4x when we had some additional orders. First 2x I pressed it a waitress came but another table waved at her and she completely ignored us. Last 2x we still had to wait as 2 waitresses kept passing us off to the other saying "ikaw nalang mag take ng order" but then the other one would do so distractedly that i had to ring a 4th time just to make sure.
Would I come back? Definitely. Jap owner was friendly, btw and would greet guests coming in.
We had the Spicy Tuna Roll, Spicy Salmon Sashimi, Zaru Soba, Tori Teriyaki, Mushroom wrapped in Beef, and Kaisen Donburi. The verdict- everything was fresh and pleasing to the palate. Prices on the menu were cheap and here’s why- servings were small. Tastewise, superior but presentation could be improved. The maki, for instance, was cut in different sizes. Service was also a bit slow. It was good at the beginning, but steadily deteriorated as the meal progressed. Would i come back? Of course. Ambience and taste more than made up for the tiny issues that are easily rectified.
It's actually my 4th time eating here. I just got home from the restaurant. If you are looking for a Japanese Restaurant that resemble the taste of Japanese foods, try eating at Shima! It's actually cheaper than other Japanese restaurants and so worth it!
Recommendations:
5 stars for their Sushi and Sashimi!
5 stars for Shima's Special (sushi) for starters
Mango Shake
Sake (Salmon Sashimi) for starters
Salmon Belly Sashimi

Service:
Staffs, even the Japanese owner is friendly and polite, approachable too. Fast serving. You will not wait that much for your food. They also give a mini passport and stamp it every time you come back so they will be giving you a free 250 worth of food.
I started writing this review while I still was partaking the unexpectedly superb dinner I had at Shima. To say that I liked their dishes would be a complete understatement, infact I think the word love would be weak describing my gastronomic escapade, worship would be a more apt verb (so much for the first commandment).
I loved everything, I repeat I loved everything I ordered from the tender, moist and marbled wagyu cubes to the bursting with flavor and juices grilled mackerel to the perfectly grilled and salted yakiniku (whether its skin, neck, thigh name it) down to the melt in your mouth salmon belly sashimi. Its all exceptionally done, no ifs and no buts. The suprising part is that Shima is relatively inexpensive. Your eyes are not fooling you, the suggested budget for 2 in the zomato app is accurate. I honestly thought they missed punching a third of our orders when I saw the bill.
Because this place is pretty close to my house, I go here often to satisfy my craving for Japanese food. My go-to order is always their Shima Special maki and ebi tempura.
While rolled up with less finesse, the Shima Special is a pretty good alternative to more expensive maki places like Ooma or Sensei Sushi. I only wish they made their maki a little smaller, since I'm always forced to chop them down to smaller pieces and it can become a bit messy. Their ebi tempura used to be bigger and with more servings, but they have more customers now than when they first opened, so maybe they're downscaling :P
There are other Japanese restos that can deliver the same taste for cheaper, but Shima makes up for it with spacious seating and a rather intimate ambiance. They can be a little understaffed at times and calling a waitress can take several tries, but the friendly Japanese owner is always around to greet customers.
Japanese owner was really nice and friendly.. always with a smile on his face. Glad that they have parking space too.. the ambiance of the place is very spacious and well lit with simple and modern design. Food was delicious! And price was very reasonable.. will come back for sure because i wanna try so many dishes from their menu!!!
Great sushi at very competitive prices. Loved the Aburi Salmon Roll. I will definitely come back and try the other food in their menu. Kudos to the owner - looks like BF Homes has another good sushi place.

Accommodating staff and kind owner ☆☆☆☆☆
We came on a Friday night. At first there were a few people on other tables but customers started to come as the night progressed.
The restaurant interior was simple, clean and spacious. The staff were accommodating. The Japanese owner (I assumed) alternately greeted the customers and cooked behind the bar.
I have been craving for great traditional but reasonably Japanese food in BF since we moved from Makati. I think this restaurant might be it. Such a delight for a Japanese food lover like me.
We had the Hawaiian roll, katsu curry, the kushiage set and the ebi tempura. Everything was so delicious and cooked perfectly. The dishes were not served at the same time because they were served immediately once cooked/prepared. The ebi tempura was so crunchy.
I would have loved to order more. I will be back many times for sure.
It was my first time dining here earlier for dinner and was impressed with the service. Staff were very welcoming and pleasant even tho i was just in my ordinary pambahay outfit! Haha! Food was great especially the wagyu (i forgot what the dish is called but it comes with mixed vegetables with butter) and maki! We also ordered tempura which was also good. Ambiance was also nice, my dad said it resembles Japan - clean and simple. I also find the Japanese owner (we're assuming he owns the store) very welcoming and humble. He greets the customers like his own guests haha! Anyway, the only negative thing I can say here is the small amount of serving of the wagyu but the yummy taste compensated to be honest. Thanks for the busog dinner!
This place looks intimidating from the outside but it's actually affordable. I loved the ambiance and minimalist interior of the place. We tried their Shima Special, Shoyu Ramen and Tuna Sashimi and we loved it! Would definitely come back and try their other menus!
I ate here with my wife last month. Place was clean and well lit, interiors gives a nice feel of Japan to it. The staff were very polite and attentive. As for the food..
We ordered several dishes - salmon belly sashimi, sashimi platter, Hawaiian roll, katsudon, crab salad - and we were able to finish all dishes. The sashimi was very fresh, the freshest I've tasted so far. Too bad they ran out of toro (fatty tuna/tuna belly) sashimi, would love to try that.
The roll was delicious and recommended for sharing. The katsudon was quite tasty, while the salad did not skimp on the crab or tamago bits.
With the price they charge you for their dishes, you get great quality food. Definitely coming back.
Delicious, quality Japanese food at an affordable price—a gem in the south of Metro Manila! I spent my birthday lunch with my family here and it was one of the best Japanese food I’ve had in Manila. I forgot to take note of what we ordered but my family and I devoured the sushi rolls and sashimi in a snap! I had to compliment the owner/chef (His hometown is Shima, Japan). Great service, the waitresses were very pleasant and the food served quickly. My only (very minor) complaint was that I wasn’t able to order more sushi rolls because the rice at the time was still too hot! Other than that, my fam and I will def be back! #musttry ٩(^‿^)۶
At first glace it may seem that the resto is an expensive one but its not. I love the interior of the place, they got the Japanese interior right. Was greeted by servers quite promtly. Japanese vibe all the way. The place is very clean and neat.
Prices are reasonable, they have these sets that could fill big tummies. Sushis are at 150's range and 220's. Ordered the Hawaiian Sushi Roll and the Katsu Curry Rice (yes im hungry).
Ambiance is as good as it gets. Japanese music, Japanese kind of flooring, even the garden view is also exquisite. Service is quick since its a weekday.
Food is quite nice. I love the big serving of the Katsu Curry rice. Blend is also good. Reminds me of Japan so much. The Hawaiian sushi is also good - but i guess the Shima special is better. Thinking of ordering the ramen when i come back.
One of my favorite Japanese resto in the area.
Will come back for more.
Always a 5 star experience for me. Last Sunday was my 3rd time going back to this place pero I'm sure it's far from being the last. I love the food and it's cheap considering the serving. The staff here are friendly and professional, and the restaurant is well-kept. See you again soon Shima. ❤
Good food, nice ambiance, reasonable price, and polite staff. Only tried a couple of dishes but might come back to try out more the next time.
We went there via eatigo at 30% disc. We were thinking if, in any case, it's gonna be a miss, then at least we didn't pay full price. But we had a GREAT EXPERIENCE, food was excellent, price is justifiable, service is top-notch.
We were seated right away and orders were taken promptly.
Got sashimi moriawase, and everything was fresh. A sure 5. Kani salad was next, then came the shima special, another 5 star. If it's your first time to eat here, better include this in your order. We also got california maki and futomaki. Price for both was affordable since it come in 8's.Agedashi tofu was also a hit considering i'm not fond of tofu. Gyudon is okay. Not really something to be crazy about but my friend loves it. Tempura was...well, tempura is tempura. They all taste the same :)
Next time, we are going back for their ramens. For now, it's my fav japanese resto in BF.
What can I say, Shima had me at first bite, not to mention how great the staff were(I’m looking at you Hannah and Joyce 😊👏🏻), always anticipating our needs, a very prompt service, and a lovely place.
Thanks to Tim.E on his recent Japanese review, it got me craving for the same, thankfully we went to the right place and ordered the right dishes, yay!
I was so pleased with our orders specially the Shima’s Special, I know it’s just 4 pieces for its price but chef Incio, the guy who creates all these delightful sashimi and sushi where the prep area is, would make sure you won’t have any regret, in fact the size alone is big that you won’t be able eat it in one go. You don even need a sauce for it. And oh, if they serve you miso soup, don’t dismiss it, it’s so Flavourful.
Hopefully we’ll have the same experience when we go back for the yakitori, which is only made available during dinner time. I hope more people will discover this place, it’ll be a shame to have Shima in the midst of all these korean themed shops and not try it.
Itadakimasu!!!
Food - food was great! Nothing extraordinary, but good food nonetheless. We ordered a lot actually. We had tempura, hawaiian and spicy tuna rolls, sashimi moriawase, tebasaki karaage (which everyone loved), ramen, and katsudon.
The only let down was the Saikoro Steak. Serving was too small. Texture if the steak wasnt that good either.
Ambience - loved the interiors of this place. I appreciate its cleanliness too
Service - got a little disappointed at their security guard. We arrived at the restaurant 20mins earlier for our reservation. Too avoid any fuss, we stayed inside the car. After around 10mins or so, the security guard knocked on our window and arrogantly said “bakit kanina pa kayo dito naka park”. Jeez. But i still give this restaurant 5 stars cos the waitresses were really nice. I can feel that they were trying hard to give a good service. They just lack training.
No words, just pure satisfaction. I encourage people to try this place out. Tried this place once and I spent my bday celebration on the second. It's that good.
I swear this place is so underrated! Shima is by far one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants there is in the South. Food was too good to the point that I had the urge to finish it even if I didnt have any space left in my belly. The place was spotless and the definition of what a japanese resto should look like. If I could give 6 stars, I honestly would!! Kudos to the owner! We didn’t have the chance to tell you how much we loved your food cos we were too shy so this is my way of expressing my gratitude. Definitely coming back (again and again).
Arigatou gozaimasu!
The place has a cozy feel. Food is way beyond excellent despite the affordable price. We had a chance to talk to the humble owner who happens to be from Nagoya. After receiving the unfortunate news that the food I ordered ran out of one of its ingredients, the owner himself came up to us and apologized. He even gave us a specialty that wasn't included in the menu just to express his apology! 10/10 would dine again.
I don’t normally write reviews but this place was an awesome find! Authentic Japanese food that’s oishii and reasonably priced. Contrary to the listing, alcohol is served in fact they have Sapporo draft beer which is quite rare in the Philippines. Love this place, will definitely be back! I used to live in Japan and it brought back memories. It’s my new favorite restaurant in BF.

Shima japanese restaurant
Visited 1/6/18 9pm
The ambiance is impeccable and does a good job of utilizing he spacious the interior and the lighting is nice.
Giyouza
The umami taste is manifested throughout the giyouza, it is a bit dry compared other gyoza’s of other restaurants. The ratio of meat to vegetable is very noticeable as the vegetables are sparingly noticeable as against the backdrop of the meaty texture and volume of the gyoza. The sauce complements the dumpling very well. 4/5
Agedashi tofu
The tofu has a nice skin and flavorful sweet sauce that complements the silken texture of the tofu and harmonizes quite well to produce a very good experience.
4.5/5
Sushi moriawase
The rice is delicately seasoned with wasabi. Has squid, tuna, salmon, crab stick, shrimp and tamago sushi. It is fresh and the wasabi provides a sharp contrast against the sweetness of the seafood atop the rice.
Kaisendon aka chirashidon
Has tamago, squid, octopus, salmon, tuna, mackarel and kani tempura. Presentation is top notch. Each of the sashimi has 3 pieces and the freshness of the seafood is undeniable as the texture was simply amazing. It is also worth noting that the salmon and tuna were both the fatty variety and it coats the mouth with so much umami. The only drawback was the rice as i was expecting it to be cold and a bit tangy but it was sweet and a bit warm but it takes nothing from the superb quality of the dish.
5/5
Hawaiian maki.
8pcs of maki filled with mango, cucumber and tuna aburi topped with salmon aburi. Aburi level is over 9000!!! The aburi melts in your mouth and has a very nice texture to it. Comes with sweet sauce that complements the maki very well. Presentation is pleasing to the eyes and looks appetizing. 4/5
The Cold green tea has a very good tea taste and aftertaste and how can you go wrong with unlimited refills?
Our servers name is joyce, she attended to us very warmly, demonstrated good product knowledge and provided unparalleled service.
Restaurant deserves a 4.5/5.
Would visit again the soonest!
Craved Japanese food and this newly opened Japanese restaurant is worth it.
We were greeted upon entering and served an appetizer. We ordered their sashimi platter and ramen. Since the place is quite new, their menu is still limited. We were told that we can order food not included in the menu like rolls and appetizers, so we ordered edamame, spicy tuna maki and aburi.
We're very much satisfied with every order that arrives. Their aburi is melt in your mouth and should be included in their menu! Tried ordering gyu kushi (not in the menu) but they don't have, hoping they'll have soon.
The place is neat, we loved their aesthetic and they have clean bathrooms. Staff are attentive and service is great. Price is right for the quality and quantity of the food they serve. Will definitely be back.
Really good quality sushi! There menu is temporary but I ordered the salmon and spicy tuna roll! The place is really clean and authentic style. Must try!
