Our favorite place for comfort food in Commercenter, together with Buffalo Wings and Things. Super love their tenders, wings, and burritos! Great in taste and serving. Favorite tenders and wings flavor is Chipotle Lime, perfect for those with a savory-sour preference without spice.

Who could say no to a rack of meaty, fall of the bone baby back ribs? I know we can’t! That’s why we were pretty much stoked to be in Chubby’s Rib Shack to have some of their good ol’ ribs. Chubby’s share the same spot with Buffalo Wings N’ Things so if you’re also in the mood for some wings then it’s your lucky day!

We were served with a slab of Baby Back Ribs, some BBQ Pulled Pork Nachos, Griddled Fish with Salsa Ranchero, and their Chubby’s Special. We totally loved the BBQ Pulled Pork on the nachos because not only that the BBQ Pulled Pork gave a different take on the typical nacho topping but the nacho-topping ratio itself was just right. Also, the Chubby’s Special is one you’d order when you wanna have a good, satisfying meal. It has a generous slab of riblets and pulled pork, coleslaw, Texas toast, and Honky Tonky rice. Did I mention that you can choose your the sauce for your ribs? Ask for the sauces available! And of course, their Baby Back Ribs was just tender, and meaty. Its pretty much filling too since its also served with coleslaw, Honky Tonky rice and Texas toast.

Chubby's Rib Shack is located at the ground floor of Commerce Center it occupy the same space of Buffalo's Wings N' Things.

Their prices are budget friendly though they need to do something with the quality and taste of their dishes.

Griddled Fish with Salsa Ranchero (P259)

Sole Fillet was perfectly cooked however the salsa ranchero need some spices. All I can taste was just plain tomatoes. Some of the shredded cabbage and carrot in the coleslaw have dried up.

Pulled Pork Nachos (P159)
Despite that we were served with newly prepared nachos, for me there was something missing. The tortilla chips was crispy, salsa was fresh and it has an equal ratio of melted cheese to the whole nachos. I think they have to work on with the pulled pork. It is tender but it tasted bland. 

Chubby's Special (P299)

I was excited with the ribs, especially that it was smothered in BBQ Sauce. Unfortunately the ribs are quite dry and there's nothing special with its taste ;( They used the same pulled pork in nachos which needs some seasoning too.

Chubby's is located in the same restaurant as BNWT. I am not entirely sure why, but this seems kind of the trend as with the other BNWT/Chubby's outlets I have been to.

For appetizer, they have the Pulled Pork Nachos topped with signature BBQ pulled pork and drenched in cheese sauce. Makes for a great conversation starter.

Ribs are ribs and Chubby's Baby Back Ribs came smothered with heavy dark sauce. However, it could use a little more fat to make it more tender and less dry.

The Chubby's Special is kind of a sampler consisting of their riblets and BBQ pulled pork basted in the customer's choice of BBQ sauce. Quite filling for one person so best to share with a date. Or get another meal like the Griddled Fish with Salsa Ranchero. The sole fillet was cooked right however, the salsa ranchero could use a little more spice to amp its flavor. It ended up tasting more tomato than actual salsa. I was looking for more heat but I was unable to feel any from this dish.

I was kind of baffled on why there was toast in their rice meals. Apparently, it's called the Texas Toast and is one of the staples for every meal here in Chubby's.

Speaking of sides, we were served rice in papercups, which were fine. What did not go well with me was the fact that they served us rice with an evidently "kulob" smell, which somehow makes you think it's bordering on getting stale. We brought it to the attention of the servers but they gave us back the rice and reasoned out that it was just because the rice used was dinorado and smells that way naturally. I begged to disagree as I know my rice varieties by heart since my mom always asks me to cook rice at home, via the rice cooker or the stove using kaldero. Dinorado does not smell foul or mouldy, so I had to point this out to the staff. They acquiesced and changed the rice. But I dared not taste it again for fear of previous stale rice I was provided earlier.

Chubby's could use a thing or two from a few rib houses nearby in terms of flavor and tenderness. I like that they were generous with the sauces but the foundation of a good rack of ribs is the pungent smell of spices signalling full-on flavor and meaty goodness. They could also work on a few more tweakings for this outlet in terms of service as well.
