We went to the new wing of Filinvest Mall in Muntinlupa City and tried SKEWERED.
SKEWERED is a Pan-Asian full service casual dining restaurant and cocktail bar. The restaurant wants the Filipino people to be able to sample the best authentic food that Asia has to offer without having to personally travel to all those countries (Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Korea, etc.). The food is, as much as possible, authentic and not adapted, but instead they have selected those authentic dishes that they believe suit the Filipino palate whilst being able to provide authentic flavors to their valued customers.
SKEWERED means BBQ in the Philippines, they used the word Skewers to have a wide market not only here in the country but internationally.
The interiors of SKEWERED pay homage to the sea voyager past of the Asian people and the spice trade which already prospered thousands of years ago.
The legend behind the interior looks of the restaurant, which is also shown in the mural on the wall, is a ship carrying spices someone in the tropics of Asia. The ship was caught by a large storm and the wreckage washes up on a tropical island somewhere in Asia.
The shipās crew is from various countries in Asia as they are all seafarers in the spice trade. The stranded crew use their skills to hunt for food, the spices from their ship which have been washed up on-shore and their combined culinary techniques to prepare various Asian dishes to make a great fully flavored Pan-Asian feast.
Skewers are naturally the highlight of this mythical feast since people in every country in Asia have eaten skewers for thousands of years.
The islandās tropical fruits and sugar-cane are used to make rum-based tropical cocktails to accompany the food.Ā Tea is a givenĀ as it grows abundantly throughout large parts of Asia and was one of the pillars of the spice trade.
Ā
The TIKI (Polynesian) theme of the cocktail glasses as well as the style the mural is painted pays homage to the migration of the Asian people to Polynesia thousands of years ago. The people of Asia and Polynesia are always connected through this bond.
The music in the restaurant is Asian pop and rock to supplement the overall restaurant concept and showcase the varied cultures throughout Asia and helping us to bring these thousands of years of history to the current present day to make for an interactive, unique dining experience, showcasing the best in food, drinks and culture that Asia has to offer.
