Metro Manila has turned into a veritable foodie capital. Famous food concepts from around the world have set up shop in the city.  Meanwhile, local entrepreneurs are also busy busting out one new innovative joint after another. Last week, I was pleasantly surprised to get a chance to stick my head out of the whirlwind of new restaurants to delve back into a classic­─ RED JADE at The Manila Hotel.

Red Jade offers dimsum all you can for only Php988.  Enjoy steamed pork spareribs with black pepper bean sauce, steamed crystal shrimp dumpling, piggy face lava buns (custard with salted egg), sliced chicken Szechuan chili sauce, stir-fried soya sauce egg noodles, Chinese vinegar dumpling, century egg congee, pan-fried radish cake XO sauce, and, deep-fried chocolate buchi. Indulge in these fine selections of freshly made dim sum, complemented with a pot of premium tea.

Red jade is one of the best chinese restaurants in hotels, the place offers unlimited dimsum just like other chinese restaurants in hotels

Last March 10, we celebrated mom's birthday in Red Jade, formerly Mabuhay Palace, the Chinese restaurant in The Manila Hotel. 😊

Since she just got her tooth extracted recently, we opt to get menu items that are not too hard to chew, or those that might hurt her still healing gums. Here's what we got that day:

✅ RED JADE FIVE KINDS COMBINATION
I love their cold cuts platter! 😍 This consists of jellyfish, century egg, lechon Macau, white chicken, and roast duck. Everything was fresh, tasty, and delicious. My favorite is always the jellyfish! Their roast duck and lechon both has crispy skin, and we loved it. 😋

✅ STIR FRIED SCALLOPS WITH EGG WHITE
This was my least favorite among the dishes, but it was not that bad. I just wished it was more flavorful... But this can easily be compensated by adding chili garlic oil to it. 😊

✅ STEAMED LIVE GROUPER
One of the best parts of eating in an authetic Chinese restaurant is the freshness of their seafood! They're usually kept in an aquarium, before they are prepared for cooking. 😍 The meat of the grouper we were served with was succulent, and each part of the fish was cleaned properly. The light soy sauce used was sweet and salty, a perfect match for the steamed lapu-lapu! 😋

✅ BIRTHDAY SEAFOOD NOODLES
I am usually not a big fan of Birthday Noodles because they are generally too oily for my liking, but Red Jade's version is saucy, and has just the right amount of toppings! It's actually the best one I've tasted to date, which is why I can't help it but to reach for a second helping. 🙊

✅ STIR-FRIED SLICED LAMB WITH ONIONS
I'm not a big fan of lamb dishes, mainly because I always catch that lingering gamey taste in my mouth. 😞 This one's no different. While the onions were able to cut the gamey scent and taste a bit, I am still not that enticed to lamb dishes. 🙊 That's just a personal preference, though!

✅ RED JADE HOMEMADE SALTED DUCK EGG ICE CREAM
This is usually the dessert they serve us with each time we are here. ✨ It's sooo good! The taste of the salted egg is not that overwhelming, and it has a slight similarity to cookies and cream ice cream, with saltd egg bits. This is good -- and is an awesome way to end a sumptuous meal. 🍨

Also, I am not sure what the soup is called, but it's like the Shark's Fin soup we used to eat at Chinese restaurants when we were still little. 😍 I also can't seem to find the menu item name for the dish with the broccoli, abalone, and tofu (please see photos) -- but I loved this dish! It's very unique, healthy, and delicious. 😊

Service does not disappoint as well. The waiters are very attentive, and the service is personalized and unique. 😊💜 The ambiance is that of the usual Chinese restaurant, but a bit upscale since it's located inside a hotel. ✨

Full Disclosure: My sister's (soon to be) father-in-law is the Executive Chef of Red Jade. But biases aside, their food is really good and of high quality. Excited to eat their food again on my sister's wedding in less than 2 weeks! ✨😍

taste and food quality - 3.5/5

complentary fried wanton with caramel - not a fan.

birthday noodles - sauce is good, noodles a bit soggy

beef with honey pepper sauce - yes!!! love the sauce. meat is tender.

fried chicken with gravy - tastes like savory chicken... delicious!

- dimsum are pricey so we didnt order any. ala carte dishes are ok considering they are in a hotel. servings good for 3-4 persons.

service 3/5
- servers need to be asked for food suggestions and the rest of the servers chit chatting in the corner regarding their day offs which i think we dont have to hear. they can chat elsewhere not in the dining area.
