Their pride and joy fish dish is a must-try. Their braised beef mami was also very beefy and tasty. I was literally smacking my lips about an hour after the meal because the food was that good.

The ambiance is 80’s-90’s Chinese restaurant in Binondo. It is clean, aircon is good. There is also a large flat screen tv. I ordered the Braised Beef Mami. The beef chunks (generous serving) are tender and the soup has quite good beef taste. For dessert I had a slice of the Choco-liquor cake. It is moist but personally I wish it had stronger chocolate taste, but I think it is enough for most people.

late April 2017 dinner experience

have heard about this resto within the Fil-Chi community for years. I've been waiting for a chance to finally try this place.

the ambiance is old school 70s-80s Chinese resto reminiscent of Ongpin which is fine. But then we went here for the food.

went with family and kids, 6 adults, 7 kids. food was very good considering the price which is on the affordable side.

some of the dishes we ordered:

Braised Beef Noodle = melt in your mouth tender beef. Perfection :)
Pork Leg/Pata Tim = preparation is well done. This i one dish every Fil-Chi would know if done properly. Excellent
Tenderloin w/ Onion = was good too
Spinach Soup = took the longest to arrive but worth the wait. Highly Recommended

bill for more than 10 dishes amounted to P3t which is very affordable

Check this place out. Highly Recommended

This long time Chinese restaurant serves authentic Chinese food. They have a wide selection, I recommend their specialty fish, tausi clams, and their porkchops with yang chow.

Location and actual place aside, judging based on the food alone, this old school resto deserves praise.
I think this has been around the area for 2 or more decades. Its proximity on UP manila area made it popular among students and UP employees, aside from its regular filipino-chinese patrons.
Famed for their braised beef -with rice or noodles, they also serve fresh seafood viands, dimsums, their own formula of 3-in-1 coffee, buko salad/pandan, and Maricar Reyes' (wife of Richard poon -son of the owner) liqour cakes.
We ordered their all time favorite braised beef (220pesos) noodles and special beef rice (215pesos).
Beef is incredibly soft and tender, their sauce is light soy -not too salty, a little garlicky, and their broth is definitely natural beef flavored, with just the right salt.
If i were to choose, the beef noodles is definitely worth the try.

For those who dig Maricar Reyes' Choco Liquor Cakes, you may get 'em at Mr. Poon's in Malate.

My homie @Clarissa P ordered two cakes for our first ever long overdue potluck.

Mocha Bourbon. Mocha cake is the most overrated cake variant since time immemorial. This is a staple in every children's party and family gathering I have been to ages ago. Trust me when i say that you will never see Mocha in the same light after you tried this. The texture of the cake is perfect! Soft and cloud-like. The marriage between mocha and my favorite poison is a match made in heaven. The bourbon balances out the sweetness and dem mocha crumbs is adds texture to the already awesome cake.

Choco Liquor Cake. This baby reeks of chocolate perfection. I absolutely love the marriage of the subtle sweetness of the chocolate and the sting of liquor. Now i understand one of my odd foodie cravings - cupcake with chocolate ganache and a shot of Bourbon.

Overall, both cakes are phenomenal. Carefully crafted and has a sophisticated flavor.

This is a restaurant I grew up with I remember my folks would bring me here once a week or two times a month. The reason was for their Steamed fish preparations are the best in Manila. At this visit. I calculate it has been 20 years since I stepped foot into Mr. Poon. This time it is now located beside Tropicana Hotel near at 1630 Luis Maria Guerrero Street
Manila it's like 2 streets away from Robinsons Malate.  First, Mr. Poon through his great daughter Eva Poon gave us their version of White Chicken. I am critical on this dish since a lot of carbon copies in the market has evolved. Their version is authentic, soft and tender. plus it gave you the sense it was a home cooked dish. Next was The Taiwanese Beef Mami or Braised Beef noodles. This is 100% authentic taiwanese - the recipe came from Eva's Mom who is Taiwanese. The main dish was the Steamed Lapu Lapu in special ingredient sauce. This dish has ingredients flown in from China.  The price all in all for this was on the spot good value for money if you ask me. Service from the staff that has served Mr. Poon is also a 5. By the way we went there on a Saturday and they were full.
