The food was really good. I left my socks at the table we ate at and the waiter Emer did a really awesome act of service and ran my socks to me after I was about 300 meters away from the mall. What I nice guy!! Super satisfied with the service!!
Planning a food trip? Try out the restaurants of SM Jazz Mall, and you're guaranteed a full course meal— from dinner to dessert and even drinks— that will keep you nice and full. Our first stop was at Ryu Ramen and Curry, where we got to enjoy Japanese food.
At Ryu Ramen and Curry, they serve the classics. I'm talking about ramen, gyoza, tonkatsu, tempura and curry katsu dishes that come at affordable prices, and taste great! These were the dishes we tried (special mention to the Tantanmen and Curry Tonkatsu, which were my favorites):
◻️ Agedashi Tofu: deep-fried, silken tofu in a light soy sauce and grated radish mixture.
🍤 Tamanegi: a medley of deep-fried onions, shrimp and squid with a light and crispy mouthful.
🍤 Ebi Katsu Set: fried shrimp cutlet with a crunchy golden brown batter that yields soft and flavorful shrimp.
🐮 Menchi Karasu Set: deep-fried beef cutlet with cheese in the center.
🥟Gyoza: Japanese pot-stickers filled with meat, leeks and other vegetables. Comes with a sour-salty soy sauce. Enjoy it pan-fried or deep-fried.
🐷 Pork Gyoza
🐔 Chicken and Shrimp Gyoza
🍜 Ramen: Japanese dish with a pork tonkotsu soup base, al dente egg noodles and thin slices of chasu meat.
💕 Ryu Ramen and Curry: specialty ramen that showcases a marriage of two favorites— pork broth and curry for added creamy and spicy flavors.
💕 Chasu Ramen: classic ramen full of rich pork flavors.
💕 Tantanmen: a spicy and creamy miso-based broth with ground pork.
💕 Karaage Tantanmen: an upgrade to their Tantanmen Ramen, which includes bites of deep-fried chicken.
🍛 Menchi Curry: deep-fried cutlet that comes with a creamy and mildly spicy curry sauce. Served with rice and veggies on the side.
I've been always passing by this ramen joint and was wondering what their katsu curry tastes like. And it happened sooner that I thought!
For the appetizers, we had their Tamanegi, Agedashi Tofu, and Gyoza (Pork, Chicken & Shrimp). For the mains, we have had the Ryu Ramen Curry, Karaage Tantanmen, Chashu Ramen, Katsucheese Curry and Menchi Katsu Set. I'm always craving for the authentic Japanese style Curry that's why I'm much excited to try their curry sets! Thankfully their Katsu Curry tasted average yet delicious! For the ramens, I like their chashu ramen since I'm into light soy-based ramen. The Tantanmen was a bit spicy but good. Their gyoza are also delectable, and the tamanegi is my new fave appetizer (crispy battered onions, squid, and shrimps). I haven't tried their tofu since I'm not a fan of that stuff.
The ambiance of the restaurant feels very Japan, great resemblance with wall art and interiors. Thumbs up for their manager and the staff for being attentive. Hoping to come back soon and try their Donburi's!
RYU Ramen & Curry is the perfect place for both ramen and curry rice dishes.
My favortites here are....
Agedashi Tofu - deep-fried tofu
Tamanegi - a wonderful mix of deep-fried battered onions, shrimps and squid.
Chasu Ramen - light broth with pork slices
Karaage Tantanmen - spicy ramen topped with large Japanese fried chicken
Menchi Curry - Japanese breaded and deep-fried ground meat patty. Served with a curry sauce.
Go to SM Jazz for the 1st time and find this hidden gems. I try their curry rice and my husband choose ramen curry. Both are super delicious! Price worthy but portion is rather small.
Food here are tasty and the prices are reasonable. We usually come here whenever we crave for a ramen because their proportions are big or worth the price. Though i think their service can be better. Some waiters are inattentive.
Ryu Ramen SM Jazz is my quick go-to whenever I crave for ramen because of its proximity to places I frequent. I always order Gyoza whenever I visit any Japanese resto. And Ryu Ramen’s did not fail.
But for this visit we ordered:
Ryu Ramen Curry - your usual ramen with pork but with a thicker soup flavored with curry.
Chicken Karaage Tantanmen - a thick soup of tantanmen with 3 pieces of yummy chicken karaage. Next time, I will ask for my chicken karaage to be served on a separate platter so the crunchy skin will not get soggy because of the broth.
Tamanegi - it has everything I love! Shrimps, squids and onions...chopped/shredded and mixed together, coated in tempura batter. Comes with ginger tempura sauce. Oh, how I’d love to come back for another round of this.

Ryu Ramen and Curry is one restaurant that we keep coming back to. First, it’s because of the food, of course. Second, it’s just at SM Jazz Residences, which is at the ground floor of our condominium. Ryu Ramen and Curry is a homegrown brand but judging from the taste of their offerings, you would think that it is an authentic Japanese restaurant. It is owned by singer and songwriter Mr. Ogie Alcasid together with several partners. We first had a taste of Ryu’s ramen at the time when we were just starting to get curious with that beloved Japanese noodle dish.
It was almost lunch when I finished my medical check up so since the clinic was near Jazz Residences, my friend and I decided to explore the area. Emon and I ended having lunch at Ryu. It's just started to get busy around that time and the place was really nice - it's cool, well maintained, big, relaxing and staff were polite! I only ordered the Katsu Cheese Curry. Orders came in, and mine was served in hot steamy japanese rice, crispy pork katsu, veggies on the side and fermented raddish. I can't stop myself from eating after having my first bite of it and finishing an entire plate in less than 15 minutes. If you have a big appetite like me, you may find the serving small however, every cent was well spent here. The curry sauce was so amazingly good! Did not expect it to be that good actually.
However, the cheese inside my katsu was grainy not exactly sure if it was cheddar or what coz I was expecting its melted and stringy like mozzarella nonetheless, its really about the curry sauce!!! 👌🏻
The place is quite nice, waiters are nice too, the portion is overload for one people, the ramen taste is a bit unique tasted like they’re adding peanut sauce in it, the curry is quite ok
For us, their ramen is the epitome of all ramens. Their creamy pork miso based ramen becomes our standard when comparing ramens from other ramen hubs. Their branches however are quite far from our place. Hope to drop by this place soon.
My first (ramen) love! This is my go-to ramen place then when their Tomas Morato branch was still open. Too bad they're already closed and I have to travel to Makati for this (but hey it is worth the travel ❤). My favorite is Tantanmen - the soup is thick and flavorful, the noodles is cooked fine and the spicyness is bearable. I also love the beef in it! Along with this, I also get Karaage and Ebi Tempura, which both taste good also.
We had the sweet and spicy ramen, pan fried gyoza, pork katsu, and pork katsu with curry.
All of them taste so delicious. The ramen comes in a big bowl that is good for sharing and worth the price. It was our first-time here so i think their servings are big.
The staff were all very accommodating and attentive.
Definitely we will come back!!
The last time I was at Ryu was some moons back. It was a memorable meet up where some foodies and I were personally attended to by idol Mr. Ogie Alcacid ( (read "When Ojie Met Ogie at Ryu Ramen and Curry" at pigoutsundays.blogspot.com)
I distinctly recall how I loved their food and how I would love for the piggery to experience Ryu too.
Fast forward a few hours earlier, Bunso ordered their Char Siu Ramen Curry and gyoza. While I ordered their Toridon....
Ordered Katsu Curry and it’s really seasoned into perfection. I like the energy of the staff as well as the ambiance. Their house tea tastes good also. Keep it up!
Ramen are good for sharing and the noodles are great to share with your friend or family. The ambience and the service are also great!!!!! 😊
Ordered Spicy Miso Ramen, Katsudon & Tamanegi! Twas a perfect Dish for our japanese food night craving! Quoted time was given but the food arrived a little early and was very appetizing and very hot! Tho we didnt finished the food.. we took it out, and ate it the next morning and indeed still delicious! Cheers also to the servers who are very snappy and accommodating!
One of the best and affordable go to japanese resto. Food is tasty, hands down one of the best Yakisoba noodles to try. Will be coming back to try other dishes soon.
Second time to eat in RYU but first time to review. Food was still delicious. I tried the Chicken Teppan don beautiful presentation downside was the bowl had a crack in it. The chicken was tender the vegetables was cooked okay but I would've preferred more cook on the bell peppers and onions. The service was fast and they were very accommodating. Definitely a restaurant to visit.
A nice place to sit down and relax while eating your clear broth ramen. I also got gyoza and they nailed the recipé. Although the meals are basic so we would like to see more surprises in the future. On a separate occasion I tried their Japanese curry and it was not the curry that I am used to eating, I think they overdid the Japanese curry sauce or it was long simmering so the sauce felt a bit too concentrated. Ramen and gyoza and rice is recommended.
Located in SM Jazz, Makati, Ryu Ramen and Curry has been around for quite some time now giving us different flavors of Ramen, Curry and more. The ambiance is homey. Very Japanese because of the wooden dividers and drawings of dragons visible on the wall. Ryu actually means Dragon. It’s good to know that this location is open for functions and you can try to reserve it for a minimum of 8,000 consumable for 3 hours. Perfect for lunch out with workmates and family.
Here’s what we had:
Gyoza – Choices of Pork, Shrimp or Chicken. Their version was full of meat on the inside. It was really good that you will keep wanting more.
Pork Tantanmen – What was served to us was not that spicy but you can have it customized and opt for spicier flavor if you want to. For me, I was able to enjoy the real flavor of this Ramen because it wasn’t that spicy, mild one was just right. The noodles were firm and the broth was thick and full of aroma. No wonder it’s one of their best sellers.
Shoyu Ramen - A salt-based Ramen. This Classic Ramen was tasty without any fuss. Just add the Chasyu Pork and it’s good to go.
Shrimp Tempura – Large Ebi dipped in batter and fried. It does look good and tasted good too. I so love Tempura and I think I’ve found one of the best in town. Will definitely visit this place again simply because of this. Yes! It’s that good.
Yaki Buta Tantanmen - A beautiful and flavorful experiment of a Ramen I’ve tasted yet. The grilled ribs were tender, huge and fall-of-the-bone.
Chahan Fried Rice - Best to pair with Tempura and Gyoza. All of that ingredient in a bowl made this rice perfect for anything fried.
Beef Gyudon - Tender meat topped with an egg. A comfort food at its finest.
Chicken Teriyakidon - Love the Teriyaki sauce on top of the crispy, golden fried chicken.
Pork Tonkatsu Curry Rice – Meat was tender. I think this is just perfect with curry. The taste of pork and the flavor of curry tasted good together.
Hamburg Curry Rice – The patties were a bit overdone, but that’s how I like it. I was still able to taste its flavor as when I took a bit, it was juicy still.
Also, they do have a current promotion called ‘Curry in a Hurry.’ Make sure to finish the Hamburg Curry in 2 minutes. Fastest one can win 6 months worth of curry. Are you up for it? Promo is until October 31st.
From the get-go, Ryu Ramen and Curry is a no-frills, straightforward Japanese restaurant that serves ramen and curry. No surprise there. What's surprising is that it is part owned by one of the greatest singers in the country. Ogie Alcasid personally welcomed us to his 3-year old branch at SM Jazz Makati. A product of the brainstorming of 5 Lasalle boys who want to venture in the restaurant business, Ryu Ramen and Curry looks and feels upscale, modern and inviting.
Apart from the shiny interiors and the attentive service staff, Ryu Ramen and Curry boasts of Japanese food fare that's easy on the pocket but is heavy on the flavor.
A few of my favorites include the Tan tan men, the gyoza and the hamburg curry rice. It is good that they have huge servings, perfect for when sharing on a date or for meals with a big group.
Pork Tantanmen
- Just the right hint of spice in a well-balanced flavor of the broth and the pork. Noodles were deliciously firm to the bite, just the way I like it. What's really comforting is that it is not too spicy at all, but if you're like me who wants more heat, don't hesitate to tell them so they can customize. This is just perfect for those rainy days. Slurp all your cares away!
Yakibuta Ramen
- For the more adventurous, indulge in this ramen made even more satisfying with the addition of pork ribs. Very rich broth, and very flavorful too.
Shoyu Ramen
- Conpared to the first two, this was light, tame but still savory. The delicately chopped chashu pork on top are the star in this ramen. But the tempting broth also gets top bill.
Gyoza
- Their gyozas are so unlike any other Japanese resto I have been to. They're huge, and stuffed full of yummy pork! Unlike thin block gyozas, I appreciate the heft of Ryu's gyozas and these are so filling, but you just can't stop munching on them!
Shrimp Tempura
- Speaking of heft, Ryu's tempuras are humongous as well. I am surprised that they were not oily at all, and stayed crunchy even after all the photogaphing we have done to it. Tender shrimp, crunchy batter, no hint of oil, this tempura is spot on!
Teriyakidon
- Teriyaki chicken bowl! Crispy chicken skin, with no signs of overcooking, the teriyaki sauce and the fragrant rice just meld well for a perfect rice bowl. Another must-try!
Tonkatsu Curry Rice
- Golden brown crispy pork cutlets on top of fragrant white rice doused in lots of Ryu's signature curry.
Hamburg Curry Rice
- I find this as a fun curry version of the hamburger. I know my kids will love this, specially the mini patties and the potatoes and carrots in the curry.
In addition, you can join Ryu's current promotion #CurryinaHurry! Just eat the Hamburg Curry Rice under two minutes and if you've got the one of the fastest times out of all their branches, you get the chance to win 180 plates of curry, that easy! That's curry for 6 months, everyday! What do you say? Dash on and get your #CurryinaHurry fix now until the end of October!
It's also good to know that they welcome group reservations, and have ample meeting space for you and your colleagues. They have a private dining area available which can seat at least 15 people, and this is apart from the restaurant's main service area. Reseve this and enjoy for just P8,000, and that's consumable!
Head on to Ryu Ramen and Curry for your Japanese fix. Who knows, you might bump into the Ogie himself while you dine!
Ryu Ramen & Curry is the brainchild of owners and longtime friends Ogie Alcasid, Edwin Dazo, Neil Castillo, VJ Vergel de Dios, and Joseph Juico. This Japanese inspired restaurant opened in 2012 in their first branch in Tomas Morato. It was well received and earning them a loyal following. Their flagship branch is in SM Jazz Mall in Bel Air Makati.
What makes a good ramen?
Broth, noodles, toppings and soup ratio are the qualities of the best ramen.
And what makes a good curry rice?
Japanese eat rice, one of the qualities of Japanese curry rice is to have a good rice.
And they used potato starch for the thickness of the curry soup.
This is what Ryu Ramen and Curry is all about.
I was invited by Always Hungry Ph in Ryu Ramen and Curry in SM Jazz Makati to try some of the specialty of the restaurant. Ogie Alcasid hosted the event together with Harvard.
The Place
You will never missed Ryu Ramen and Curry when you're in SM Jazz Makati. It's very visible outside.
Upon entry, you will feel the Japanese vibes of the place. The set-up is very warmth using some woods as the main interior of the place.
We were seated in one of the function area of Ryu Ramen which you can have it privately for Php8,000.00 consumable.
The Food
Ryu Ramen and Curry were so generous to serve us different kinds of ramen, curry and various Japanese favorites.
🍛Pan Fried Gyoza for Php140.00 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5
(Japanese Pot-sticker dumplings stuffed with fresh veggies and meat (choice of pork, chicken or shrimp)
🍛Chashu Ramen for Php390.00 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5
(Soy based broth with five slices of chashu pork and soft-boiled egg)
🍛Tantanmen for Php360.00 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5
(House Specialty. Delectable spicy miso-based broth with ground pork, soft boiled egg, negi, fragrant garlic oil, two slices of chashu pork topped with spring onion)
🍛Ebi Tempura for Php470.00 (6-pcs) - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5
(Prawns deep fried into perfection)
My favorite during our late lunch at Ryu Ramen and Curry was the Tantanmen. Gosh! I forgot my name on my first sip. The flavor was really good. Not to mentioned, that it's a Filipino made. Yes! It's a local one. The noodles complement with the ingredients and with the soup.
You should also try the Tempura in Ryu Ramen and Curry. It's not an ordinary tempura because this one is big. Like 6 inches per piece.
Other dishes: Gyudon, Chicken Teriyaki and many more.
NEW MENU
CURRY IN A HURRY
Last September, Ryu Ramen and Curry introduces three more Japanese curry choices:
🍛Tsukune Curry - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5
(Japanese Chicken Balls)
🍛Hamburg Steak Curry - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5
🍛Seafood Curry - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5
"All the three new curry dishes tasted really good. But for me, I will recommend the Hamburg Steak Curry. The flavor really standout among the other two. The curry flavor blends well with the steamed rice."
THE SERVICE
The staff of Ryu Ramen and Curry accommodated us well. They provided excellent service during our late lunch. Keep it up!
#ilovetoeatph 😃❤️
Located at the corner of Nicanor Garcia and Jupiter Streets in Makati. RYU is strategically located below the SM Jazz Residences, behind the vast lawns of the South and among schools and office buildings. I had the pleasure of dining here with foodie friends with no less than one of the partners of RYU, Mr. Ogie Alcasid, more on that later.
We were seated in a private dining space, which can be had for a minimum consumable of 8,000pesos good for at least 15 of your most intimate friends or a small business luncheon. 3 hours stay.
We tried the following Japanese dishes:
Gyoza - i am used to thin, overpriced gyozas from other restaurants so I was pleasantly surprised to see an overstuff wrapper filled to the seams. Literally bursting with meat! It was warm and the dipping sauce was a great compliment to the meat and chopped scallions.
Pork Tantanmen - a creamy, hot ramen dish perfect for the rainy weather. It was not too spicy. I find it tolerable made for the Filipino palatte.
Shoyu Ramen - a light, salty ramen served with a generous amount of noodles and slices of pork. Can easily serve two light eaters.
Shrimp Tempura - A beautiful huge ebi tempura set i have laid my eyes on! It is not all batter, one bite reveals a plump, juicy prawn which is a steal for the price! Pair it with the Chahan Fried Rice for one satisfying meal.
Yaki Buta Tantanmen - big pork ribs sticking out on your Tantanmen Ramen is such a delight. Soup base is creamy with a bit of heat. The noodles are firm and the crunchy bean sprouts lends a refreshing coolness to the spicy dish.
Beef Gyudon - thinly sliced beef on top of steaming white rice and vegetables.
Chicken Teriyakidon- another surprising dish, the chicken skin was crisp and was doused in just the right amount of teriyaki sauce. The vegetables was also generous on top of white rice.
Pork Tonkatsu Curry Rice - a huge tonkatsu laid in a bed of Japanese Curry and white rice. The pork is soft and deliciously warm. This is something my brother would love.
Hamburg Curry Rice - hamburger bites on top of a rich Japanese curry sauce with huge portions of potatoes, onions and carrots. Don't forget to join CURRY IN A HURRY promo until the end of the month for a chance to win 6 months worth of Curry Dishes for FREE! Imagine, paying only 199pesos in exchange of 6 months worth of curry rice meals. Make sure to have the fastest time to finish the dish to win this amazing prize.
It was a pleasant afternoon and it was such a joy to talk to Sir Ogie Alcasid. Listening to his humble beginnings in the music industry among other fun tales. He frequents this branch a lot so chances of bumping into him and his wife is more than likely. A couple of eager customers had the opportunity to have their photo taken with him. When in the area this is a great choice to dine in.
Disclaimer: Sponsored afternoon dining by RYU Ramen and Curry.
I love the cozy ambiance that reminds me of Tokyo hole-in-the-wall ramen house. Personal favorites include tantanmien (any variant - ebi, karaage or plain), mabo tofu ramen and today, hamburg steak curry. :) I am not a usual curry person but I can say this dish is spiced-on nicely, accompanied by chunks of carrots, onions and potatoes. For someone who wears ortho braces with corrective elastic bands, the hamburg steaks (cute patties actually) and chunky band of veggies (carrots, onions and potatoes) were soft enough to chew on. Today solo dinner-out was made cheesy special when songs "And I Love You So" and Side A's "Forevermore" were played in succession. Wow, I felt loved despite being on usual solo mode. I ❤️ Ryu ✌🏻.
Our first Japanese dining was here. We ordered rice meals toridon, ebidon and chicken teppan don. The servings are huge and the food taste great. A bit costly, but it's worth it. The pancit canton is kinda salty though. I guess I will go back to try the ramen and curry. The space is small but the staff is friendly and accommodating.
Im extremely happy to have found a jap ramen restau that's so near our place!! 😭😍😇 Tantanmen and their gyoza is 👌🏼❤️ I died in ramen heaven 😂 But I wish they would allow their customers to choose how the ramen is done (spicyness level, etc.) Also, i was a tad bit disappointed with their ebi tempura. I was expecting bigger prawns as mentioned in some reviews here but they were the tiny ones --a little bigger than shrimps. But anyway, all else is good even the service. It makes me happy happy happy 😁
A family favorite! After several visits, we have not yet had a bad experience. For ramen, i recommend the Karaage Tantanmen (a bit spicy, but the creaminess of the broth and the size of the karaage - 3 chicken thigh fillets! - make up for it), and the Chasu Ramen.
Other stellar choices are the Ebi Tempura (some of the largest prawn tempuras i've seen, including the ones I tried in Japan), and Tamanegi (tender onions, shrimps, and calamari fried in light tempura batter - a wonderful appetizer).
Some other good factors: calm ambiance thats perfect for group dining, friendly staff, and large serving portions.
While not having the best ramen in town, Ryu offers some good quality, a bit pricy though.
They have a quite wide menu. Unless lot of restaurants that were here when Jazz opened, they are still alive.
RYU Ramen & Curry celebrates their 5th anniversary with a renaissance of their flavor and style with a promotional deal of ₱5.00 for your second bowl when you order one of their iconic ramen dishes (limited only for the last week of July). Everyone has their own style of eating ramen, and in my case I usually collect all of the essential ingredients I can find and carefully arrange them on my Chinese spoon, as if to make a mini ramen bowl if you will, then proceed to shoving the whole thing into my mouth. Everyone has their own style of eating ramen, and in my case I usually collect all of the essential ingredients I can find and carefully arrange them on my Chinese spoon, as if to make a mini ramen bowl if you will, then proceed to shoving the whole thing into my mouth. Excited to try all 4 savory bowls, we unfortunately only had to chose two based on our preferences:
Ebi Tantanmen (₱430.00)
This delicious but quite heavy Chinese noodle ramen dish doesn't stray far from the original but provides a unique spicy Ebi kick from its predecessor. As with most Tantanmen, the stock base used for miso ramen is the secret to it's cloudy appearance. You would be pleasantly surprised that it's appearance is not all that it seems. After letting it cool for a short while, the ground Ebi slowly rises to the top creating a fine layer reminiscent to lobster bisque. The rich Ebi flavor, soft and filling Tantanmen, chilli oil, vacuum-packed bamboo, bean sprouts, blanched and chilled bok choy, spring onions, and sesame paste all did a number on my taste buds then left an outstanding spicy relevé as I gulped it down.
Negi Miso Ramen (₱354.00)
Negi, a Japanese variety of a Welsh Onion is the star of this particular ramen bowl of which effortlessly harmonizes with the tasty miso broth and chewy ramen noodles. This slightly spicy and very flavorful healthier option will have both your tongue and stomach thanking you for the rest of the afternoon.

been here twice and still loving the ramen (chasu and tantanmen). just got a little disappointed with their karaage-chicken tasted and smelled unfresh :(... place is nice and quiet... staffs are not that friendly and accommodating (maybe they should smile more)... but still, we enjoyed our meal...
We decided to go and celebrate the RYU's fifth anniversary with their 5 peso Ramen promo.
The place is really cozy, although when we got there it was packed, again due to their promo.
The staff were very polite, though you could see that they were already tired. There was a long waiting list but they still managed to greet customers and explain and answer queries.
We ordered shoyu, shio and 2 more Ramens that I cant remember now😂
They were good. Though they only have specific varieties for the 5 peso promo, sulit pa din.
I definitely want to come back and try their other food.
If you had been wanting to go on that ramen date with your loved one or friend without spending too much, this is your chance. RYU Ramen and Curry lets you have your 2nd ramen for only P 5 (or USD 0.28) as they celebrate their 5th anniversary.
Ryu has been facing adversities due to competition from other ramen players, including more Japanese restaurants around. A sign was felt months ago when they bid goodbye to UP Town branch in Quezon City. They are however fighting back with new campaigns and promotions to get us to be a regular customer again... soon.
Last week I got to indulge in a Japanese feast like I've never had before. I and my colleagues got to try almost every part of their menu. Everything we had was special, it was like a short trip to Japan's shores while we sat here comfortably at their strongest branch in Makati.
I love curry especially made with Japan spices. I enjoyed the kick through their well-seasoned hot curry they served. We got two types, one with juicy Katsudon or breaded pork cutlets, and another with tender Beef Tendon chunks. Having these with warm Japanese rice was an ultimate pair.
For Ramen both bowls we got surprised us for its huge servings, definitely more than solo serving. Even better, they were priced lower than other brands. Ryu Ramen Curry, their house specialty had the same rich curry flavor, which made the soup base thick and tasty. This came with lean slices of Chasu and sous vide egg. It's a great synergy, a must order dish.
Another interesting ramen ensemble of Japanese Fried Chicken or Karaage met spicy Tantanmen was our other bowl. This one also had sauteed fresh mixed vegetables and shitake mushrooms.
For some of us looking for rice, we got two of their best selling and familiar Donburi bowls, Chicken Teriyaki and Gyudon. The former had generous portions of well-marinated chicken strips and the latter had a full bowl of soft and delicious beef with raw egg.
Order their Ebi Tempura too and get amazed on its more significant size than usual. If you could order curry on the side as a dip, it could just give your bite a bolder taste.
We also got the usual Gyoza, theirs giving you a packed bite in every go. We got pan fried, but they also serve heart-stopping, deep fried version. A Yasai Itame platter we also ordered to balance all the richness we have on the table. It's good to have some fiber and more nutrients, right?
Just to make sure everyone will get full to the brim, I added Yakisoba, a stir fried noodle with pork and vegetables. For Php 230, this plate could feed up to three, a great bargain.
When was the last time you had Ryu? If you haven't tried or it has been awhile, a visit to them soon, I highly recommend. Ikuso! (let's go)

They serve delicious ramen! But the RYU Ramen Curry was too spicy. My daughter love this place. Too bad they closed their branch at UP Town Center. I hope they open up branches in bigger malls like SM North Edsa and SM Megamall 😊
Love their miso ramen and pork gyoya.
Their curry doesn't look or taste authentic but it tastes good nonetheless, enough to satisfy my Japanese curry cravings.
Not a fan of their gyudon.

I'm not much of a curry fan so I got myself a Pork Tonkatsu paired with Chahan (Japanese Rice). The pork was tender and well-breaded while the rice was very flavorful. Next time, I'll probably try out one of the ramens.

Delicious but nothing special ramen. Price-wise, it is cheaper than the more famous ramen places and offers a wide variety of ramen from shoyu to curry ramen. The serving size is also generous but the service is quite slow. Place and ambience is average and perfect for cold weather!
Food: Good
-Taste: Excellent
-Serving: Excellent
-Service: Not so good. There was a baby cockroach in the iced water that was served to us.
Place: Excellent
(With restroom)
Price: Reasonable
Overall Experience: Good

If your looking for a satisfying Ramen and Curry Crave at a relatively affordable price this the place!
You can even ask them to divide the Ramen in to two bowls for sharing since their single serve is huge.
We tried the RYU ramen Curry and we are not disappointed! It was all sort delicious. An authentic Ramen at it's best for a price of 380.00. You can even the spice level to your own liking.
As for the rice meals we tried the KatsuCheese Curry. It was superbly good tasting. I'm a cheese lover so this may came in as a personal bias. The serving is big too!
The Yakult shake is a must try! I love Yakult and I love shake so this is a dream come true!
The Customer service is excellent as well! They are very mindful of our needs, accommodate them quick and even provide us with great smiles.
Friends and I decided to have our dinner at their Jazz Mall branch. We were greeted by very kind and accommodating dining personnel. I ordered the Torikatsu Curry and when I received my order, I was so surprised of their large serving. They also served us warm tea which made my dining experience divine. :)

Attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff. great food!! Love the complimentary Japanese rice tea.. Relaxing ambiance. Will definitely go back!!
I just happen to be in SM Jazz, and I felt like having Curry Rice. Wasn't familiar of this resto but it looked good from the outside. Settled on Torikatsu Curry and their version was superb! And I've sampled lots of curry rice. They really know how to do it well. Lastly, the servers were also very nice and attentive.
Ryu at the Jazz Mall along Juoiter St in Makati aims to serve "Japanese comfort food for Filipinos". My husband had the beef tendon curry and the curry sauce was thick and rich and he liked it as it had veggies with it. My daughter ordered the Chashu Ramen and it was a big bowl for an 11 year old. She liked the noodles and the broth of this classic ramen dish. On the side, we ordered their ebi tempura and the shrimps were big -- "more shrimp than batter" as my husband says. The pork gyoza was "nice" according to my 11-year old gourmet which means it was not extraordinary but also not ordinary -- so nice and comfortingly familiar as what this resto aims to achieve. I ordered the Yasai Don as recommended by our waiter when I asked for their healthy bestseller. I was happy to be served a big bowl full of vegetables with 3 kinds of mushrooms, crunchy onion, carrots and bell pepper. The sauce was not as flavorful as I had wished it to be but all around it was hot and comforting. I think we will return to Ryu when we are around this mall.
nice and friendly staff. big serving for yakisoba meal would also suit for sharing. for a quick jap meal & craving, i would recommend this place.
We were deciding between having a Kebab lunch or Ramen and we ended up going for something soupy and saucy. So Ryu was our choice. Ambiance is fine. Took a while for our orders to be served. We had the #Tantanmen and it was big enough for 2 peeps so we had it separated into 2 bowls. We can no longer for the #CheeseKatsuCurry so we dag in with our Ramen. By the time our curry arrived, we are already full! But nonetheless, we still finished the curry-oh-so-yummy.

It was my first week at work and I had to have lunch alone. Went to Ryu since they didn't have a lot of customers at that time.
Their ramen was worth the price. Serving was enough. Their broth was tasty and thick. Great gyoza, too!
Visit them when you're in SM Jazz. Sure worth your time.
I love the chicken curry and curry noddles~~~~ especially the spicy seafood noddles~~~ it's a really nice restaurant with lot of delicious foods~~~ love love love
You can never go wrong in choosing ryu to have your favourite ramen. For a twist, you might try their curry tantanmen for that wonderful explotion of curry on your typical ramen.
When you first spot Ryu Ramen & Curry, you may be in the mood for either a bowl of ramen or a nice plate of Japanese curry. After opening the menu, I figured that it would be more convenient to go ahead and just try their Ryu Ramen Curry which the waitress actually suggested as I was having difficulty trying to pick either a ramen or a curry dish to try. I also ordered a mixed ice tea (just in case the curry was spicier than I anticipated).
Surprisingly, the curry flavor was excellent. It actually tasted like a slightly more watered down curry and if I had any space still available in my stomach and a bowl of rice, I could have made a second meal of the curry soup with the rice. My biggest issue was with the noodles. They weren't the ramen noodles that I am accustomed to in ramen-specializing restaurants and just didn't go well in this dish (perhaps thicker noodles for the thicker curry although I feel like the ramen noodles would have been better to incorporate the flavor into the noodles). In any case, if you're going to play with the big boys (same high price), then you'd better bring the firepower. The ice tea was delicious. I don't know how you make ice tea delicious (maybe it just worked well with the curry), but this was pretty good.
It is not a very cheap restaurant and I may go back should I find myself in the area and wanting something warm to eat (there aren't very many options at SM Jazz). However, I will probably try something else other than the ramen curry in the hopes that the dish will be a better show of cooking ability.
Worth money and place is so clean :) and enjoyed the seafood curry for brunch today :) wanna try other menus as well next time :) will try ramen next time!
I was still recovering from flu at that time so I wanted to have something hot and spicy. Looking at the menu, the Tantanmen Ramen caught my attention. Ryu brags Tantanmen Ramen as one of their specialties. This spicy miso-based ramen has ground pork, soft-boiled eggs and two slices of chasu pork. The server told me that I could adjust the spiciness level so she suggested to have it “mild”.
My husband had the Shoyu Ramen. This light salt-based ramen is also topped with two slices of chasu pork and soft-boiled eggs with the addition of bamboo shoots and seaweeds. As expected, his ramen is more subtle. I got a few sips of his ramen and I did notice its earthy flavor which is probably brought by the bamboo shoots.
I just loved the fact that both of our bowls include soft-boiled eggs. When I go to a ramen house, I usually get a separate order of tamago so Ryu has plus points on this. I also liked the smoky flavor of the chasu pork. Unfortunately, the cut is a bit thick so it was not as tender as we hoped it to be.
We also got to try their gyoza. Trying to be a bit more adventurous, we stayed away from our usual order of pork gyoza and settled with chicken and shrimp instead. Guests have the choice to have the gyoza deep fried, but we stuck with pan fried. The gyoza was good, but there was nothing extraordinary about it.
Found myself at Ryu at SM Jazz after a heavy downpour ruined plans for the evening. Presenting itself as a casual dining Japanese restaurant, we tried their classic tantanmen ramen and tonkatsu curry rice. I guess we are now spoiled by the multitude of ramen shops in manila such that we found their tantanmen good but comparable compared to the likes of Santouka. The curry rice was also good but not spectacular. The servings were big so that one ramen is a good full meal in itself. I'd like to go back to this place again someday. It is good ramen without having to brave the traffic of Glorieta area.
FOOD Taste good, big servings. They also look appetizing.
SERVICE Quick and accommodating. They actually check your table if you need water and tea refills. So don't hesitate to request.
PLACE Quiet. Cozy. Nice design. No wrong here.
PRICE Meh. P245 for a Katsudon.
OVER-ALL Wanting to check-out the rest of the menu. See you soon!
Ryu is the one of the restaurants located on the ground floor level of SM Jazz. Due to the heavy rain and major traffic this evening, we decided to cancel our dinner reservation at another restaurant and decided to just have dinner somewhere near the office. I've seen the name of this restaurant through the photos posted by some friends in Facebook. Thus, when I saw it early this evening, I decided to try the food here. We ordered pork gyoza, katsu cheese curry, Tantanmen ramen and mixed iced tea. For the ramen, we chose the mild one. The ramen was already spicy so it was a relief that we chose mild. The ramen was just okay but it was not comparable to Ukokkei's. The Tantanmen ramen of Ukokei is still the best for me. The gyoza and curry rice dish were also okay. The mixed iced tea was good.
My husband and I went here for a casual dinner on a weekday. The Gyoza and Katsu Curry were good, but the Tantanmen Ramen was just average. The ambiance was nice... cozy, simple and clean. The service of the staff was good.
We tried their ramen here, as it is a bit convenient to our office.
Yeah, it was good, not bad but nothing special. I might be expecting something more for the price. Gyoza complements their ramen somehow, but good service is at least there and clean place.
