It was a nice experience at Chuan Xiang restaurant with delicious and spicy food. Edwin (our table incharge) was so polite and caring in taking our orders and making customized preparation of our soup.. must visit place for those who like authentic Chinese food..
Got a couple of dishes from here via zomato delivery.
Braised Belt Fish was spicy and super tasty. The belt fish (also called hairtail) is a small fish with a well defined central bone structure. The gravy was the best part containing soy, fish sauce and a pepper paste (like gochujang). Very lively and spicy gravy. Best eaten with white rice.
Kung Pao Chicken was good too. Tender chicken pieces with lots of fried peanuts, garlic and spring onions.
Authentic Sze Chuan dishes. The spice gives you a numbing sensation (authentic Ma La). Try the sliced beef in hot sauce or the dry beef hot pot. Remember to get rice or a non-spicy veggie dish to counter the spice. Good luck!
The restaurant did not honor one of our Zomato Gold unlocks. Nevertheless, food was flavorful and unique! Especially liked the Dandan noodles
It's the best authentic Sichuan food I ever had in Manila! I've been craving for ma la xiang and so glad I tried their chuan xiang hotpot. Certainly brought back my memories living in China for about 4 years sometime 10 years ago. Oh la la with the authentic aroma of the spices and Sichuan kick on my palette. I just hope though that they could add more variety of veggies on it ;) The shredded potato was superb too, just like how I had it cooked by my chinese flatmate before in Shanghai...so nostalgic. Wish I could have more but I'm pregnant so I have to control myself..hehe. Thanks for the wonderful experience!
For the record, this is a Szechuan restaurant.
The boiled Fish with pickled cabbage was excellent. The pickled cabbage in the soup becomes an exceptional souring agent that becomes savory as it is sour. The sourness is just right, not overpowering at all as the flavor of the white fish retains its integrity.
The braised beef with noodles and soup was also excellent. The broth was refreshingly light but still flavorful. The surprise was the century egg with green chilies. Never thought I would enjoy this but there’s some pungent flavors going on in that vinegary sauce that combines perfectly with the light jellolike egg:
My second visit, my girlfriend ordered the mapo tofu and I was discouraging her as it’s a dish I can easily cook at home and I’ve tried a few in some Szechuan/Chinese restos with disappointment . To my surprise, it’s a mapo tofu like no other. There’s another pungent flavor not unlike bagoog powering the already present umami. So happy she ordered it.
Sliced pork and garlic sauce is the only favour food for me at here. Rmb just order it on take out or delivery. Cos the taste are different for delivery and dining at restaurant. U may compare it then u will know it. Must pair with RICE.
Probably the best value and one of the best quality Sichuanese restaurants in Manila. Just be warned that they use native chicken, which has much less meat. Their best dish I've had was the stir fried fish, which is only below 250php.
Ordered the Braised Beef Noodle - A-okay! They will give you complimentary tea and nuts with it. The place is not crowded so this place is perfect for lone diners. Serving can be improved though. Overall, this place is a must-try.
Szechuan Food That Doesn't Burn the Tongue at Chuan Xiang Restaurant: Ish Eats Chinese Food in Manila. Chinese food is popular all over the world. Just like everyone else, I'm a sucker for lemon chicken, sweet and sour pork or salt and pepper spare ribs with yang chow fried rice. Dimsum is also very popular alongside many variations of noodles, Peking duck and other Chinese staples.
