We visited Romulo Cafe last September 29 to celebrate the 10th birthday of my niece. Overall, we are impressed with the ambience, the politeness of restaurant staff. The food was fresh, properly prepared, we love Beef Caldereta, Pork Sinigang, Pork Kare Kare, grilled Mahi Mahi, Chicken Relleno, Enchilada, Suman sa Latik, Red Velvet cake and the best Tuyo Rice! The taste of food is superb and a great value for the price. We highly recommend it

Great filipino food! A bit expensive though so probably save it for special occasions.

We had an office meeting held here so we got to try the food. They mainly serve filipino dishes, some with modern twists such as the Pinoy Tacos as appetizer, which were cassava chips with ensalada mix. Really good and tastes healthy! All the other dishes we had were also good, particularly the Lechon Kawali, Sisig / Dinakdakan, Laing, and most especially, the Adobo Rice! Even the rice itself can be eaten alone because of how good it is! The pastas were nothing special though, and the cakes were good but expensive for what they were.

The ambience of the place is nice and really homey. Servers were friendly and very prompt service. The bathrooms were also surprisingly big, something like you would find in a mall.

Overall, enjoyed the experience here.

Service is excellent, from reservation to going out of the car to assisting us to our table. Food is great. Lechon Kawali Sisig is to die for as well as the Crispy Pork Binagoongan. The ambiance is great and the interior is nice. Will definitely come back.

Service is excellent. They are easy to call when you need even just a simple refill of sauce. And no need to call them to refill your water. Food is great. Favorite is the chicken with tamarind sauce.

I wish I took photos of the food we were served at Romulo. One should not be surprised why this restaurant is considered an institution—more than the rich history laced within the restaurant, Romulo has perfected every Filipino dish. We ordered their sinigang, baby squid, and adobo. All in all, I had a wonderful time and I hope to come back to this quaint Filipino cafe.

We dined here in Romulo Cafe for my brother and sister's birthday celebration, and it was definitely a fine choice. The ambiance had an air of sophistication yet captures that homey feel that did not make it too intimidating. There is also a wide range of dishes to choose from, so expect to see your favorites here in Romulo. Prices are generally reasonable, but there are a handful that are very pricey. Still, you can still dine here at an average of P500 per person.

By the way, it's difficult to dine here alone since dishes come in a family-size serving -- which is of course, typical for us Filipinos.

Why not a 5 Star?
The service was fine and friendly-- fitting for the ambiance, but the server was often not available within our area (the "section where we were situated, since Romulo Cafe is sub-divided into different sections), so it took a while for him to tender to our requests (e.g. water refills). Other than that, everything went amazing!

Food Recommendations
My top picks are Laing (P198), Mixed Bicol Express (P325) and Kare-Kare (P510). These dishes are undoubtedly comfort-inducing, and has a certain wow-factor

I’ve been eyeing to visit this place for the longest time. And finally, one rainy night, to feed our hungry tummies, we dropped by Romulo Cafe along Jupiter St. in Makati.

From the outside, Romulo Cafe invites diners to a cozy looking restaurant. Once inside, you will have a time travel adventure as the interior is decorated with blacks and whites, and framed photos documenting the life of Carlos P. Romulo.

For their food, the menu boasts of Heirloom recipes of Lola Virginia, wife of Carlos. They also have several Chef’s Recommendation and Vegetarian dishes.

We ordered:

Pinoy Nachos - crispy taro and kamote chips with melting kesong puti, keso de bola and tomatoes. Well, our order came with crumbled kesong puti and melting cheese (similar to Cheez Whiz, actually) with chopped tomatoes and onions. It was actually good. You just have to eat it right away as the chips gets soggy as it absorbs the melted cheese. But I love the fact that this is a vegetarian dish.

Tinapa Roll - think lumpiang shanghai with tinapa, red eggs and tomatoes as filling. This one is served on a bed of beautifully trimmed romaine lettuce and uber spicy vinegar dip.

Lengua - ox tongue stewed in red wine sauce with olives and onions. The ox tongue is so tender, you can practically slice it with just your fork.

Sunshine lemonade - lemonade with strawberry syrup. This one is a tad sweet for my taste.

Overall, food is great. Ambience is perfect for family dinners and romantic dates.

If you want to taste authentic Filipino or Pinoy foods - I highly recommend Romulo’s Cafe.

Servings good for couple is huge. Enough for you and your love ones and suit for business meetings or events too. I love the ambiance the motif of black and white.

One of the few places I usually dine-in in Bel-Air and Makati City.
