It was a busy day in the office once again and I need to adjust sometimes on my food adventures outside of my real work. Two days back was New Bombay lunch, my go to Indian food all these years. There is one near my building, walking distance, that I use to frequent.

I got Chicken Tikka Biryani for one of my mains, a hefty serving of basmati rice mixed beautifully with Indian spices of cumin, cinnamon, cayenne, black pepper, ginger, lemon, and salt. There was ample white meat that came with it too. It was mildly spiced and went well with my order of Mixed Dal, a lentil filled the bowl that was soupy and tasty.

For an appetizer, I opted for Malasa Fry Pappadum, a crispy and well seasoned fried bread. It was accompanied with a salsa-like combination of tomatoes, onions and other spices. I loved this texture, quite addicting.

Quite a staple nearby place for my spicy curry-loving boyfriend and I. The artisanal furniture sets are definitely eye-catching and adds royalty feels to the dining experience. Service crew may be a bit slow at times but they are nice.

Recommended dishes: chicken vindaloo, naan (with any curry), shrimp biryani, mixed vegetable soup, yello lentil soup, chicken roganjosh

New Bombay is my favorite casual dining Indian Restaurant. If you have friends coming from India getting homesick and looking for a not so fancy authentic dining experience in the metro, New Bombay is the place. Its safe it hits the right notes with their Masala, Tandoori and Rouganoush and its reasonably priced.

I was with friends, and we decided to order a few dishes and share: Vegetable Samosas, TIkka Masala, Tandoori Chicken and a type of Chicken Curry (forgot the full name). We ate it with rice and some chappati, and washed it down with yogurt shakes.

The servers are attentive, and the one assigned to our table asked ever-so-sweetly if we would like the spicy version of our dishes. There was a resounding 'yes' all around--- and 15 minutes after the food was served, we started whistling and sweating from the heat! :)

Everything was absolutely delicious and tasted authentic. The samosas were served with a sweet tamarind and a coriander sauce (divine!). The yogurt shakes come in sweet, salty and many other varieties. Take the sweet, it is a perfect contrast for any meal.

There are a lot of restaurants near the building where my office is located. New Bombay is literally a stone's throw away, and you wouldn't miss it due to the pungent aromas coming from its location.

New Bombay serves authentic Indian cuisine. I personally am not a fan of Indian food, but I immensely enjoyed eating at this one.

We had samosas dipped in mint sauce and a bit spicy sour tamarind jelly. The samosas were packed with flavored chickpeas and veggies, down to the very corner of that little packet of goodness. Very filling so I suggest to just take one as a starter/appetizer.

The Madrasi curry was, as expected, hot and peppery, paired with any flavored naan or chapatti bread.

The naan and chapatti were also perfect, thick and beautifully burned at all the right places.

The biryani rice was as fragrant as it was delectable, and brimmed to the top with all spices and flavors of India you can imagine.

That was a not so shabby lunch out of the confines of the office, I must say.

Ordered delivery for dinner.

Flavors: plain naan was (Php75/pc) velvety soft, Chicken tikka masala (Php285) and tandoor prawns (Php265). Best delivery food I ordered (prices above are estimates - can't find the receipt, 10% additional is charged for delivery cost). Authentic and reminded us of this Indian restaurant we used to go to almost on a weekly basis in Hoi An (Viet Nam). We truly enjoyed the sauce of the Chicken masala - they can adjust to your liking- not spicy/ medium/spicy. The chicken was sliced in good sizes. Orders go with mint dip, chutney and some spices for those who can take more spicy dishes.

Will definitely do this again.

I've been to New Bombay thrice and this is the first Indian restaurant I've tried. Being an Indian food newbie, I find New Bombay good. I like their Mutton Masala, Chicken Tikka Masala, Malai Prawns and Butter or Garlic Naan. The serving is usually good for two people (unless you're super hungry). Price range is a bit pricey in my opinion. I spend around 300-400 for every visit. This branch in The Columns is very accessible, not too crowded even on lunchtime.

I didn’t feel like cooking today. Nope. I felt like baking so I made Tiramisu instead, not that it involved any baking, but it was still therapeutic to just make something I wanted instead of worrying about what to feed other people. But we couldn’t very well eat Tiramisu for lunch, yes?

I didn’t feel like cooking today. Nope. I felt like baking so I made Tiramisu instead, not that it involved any baking, but it was still therapeutic to just make something I wanted instead of worrying about what to feed other people.

But we couldn’t very well eat Tiramisu for lunch, yes?

So after much browsing through Zomato’s Android app, I finally settled on ordering lunch from New Bombay (The Columns branch). Zomato Online Delivery, to the rescue! Haha.

I decided on ordering from New Bombay because I wanted my parents to try new flavors. New Bombay is also the Indian restaurant where I first tried Indian food and got hooked. I am aware that it is not the pinnacle of Indian cooking in the Philippines, but it’s accessible and I know that the flavors won’t be too wild for first-timers. It’s also an affordable choice.

USING ZOMATO ONLINE DELIVERY

Ordering online through Zomato was actually quite easy. The part that took me the longest time was picking out a restaurant!

On the Zomato app, I clicked on ORDER FOOD and was shown a list of restaurants that delivered to our area.

Once I picked New Bombay, I just clicked on the ORDER tab and got their online menu, with prices. Ordering was straightforward, just click +/- to add/remove orders to my cart. The total amount is shown on the bottom left of the app.

I ordered the Palak Paneer (278.25), the Mutton Rogan Josh (P278.25) and the Chicken Curry (P278.25). Yes, I also noticed that the prices were all the same…

I wish they included Mattar Paneer on the delivery menu. It’s something that I often request when eating at New Bombay, but it’s not on the regular menu. It’s my favorite paneer dish.

At the moment, I think they only accept Cash as the payment method.

Note: There was a delivery fee of P100.17. I think the delivery fee is proportional to the amount ordered, based on my computation, it seems to be 12%.

After finalizing my order, I got an order summary telling me that the order has been sent to New Bombay. After about a minute, I got another notification telling me that New Bombay has accepted my order.

I was also given an estimated time when the delivery will arrive (about an hour).

After about 15 minutes, I got another notification letting me know that the food is on its way! Yay! Everybody’s hungry! My bad, it took me more than 30 minutes to pick a restaurant, haha. So we had lunch at 1:30 pm.

I also received an email summary.

The Zomato delivery guy arrived on his motorcycle. He had a big, insulated bag that kept our order safe & warm.

NEW BOMBAY RESTAURANT

On first look, it seemed that our package was too small for 3 orders! But the way New Bombay packed it was by filling up the round, mid-tall microwavable container that we’re familiar with, for each order. It just looks small but we even had leftovers (4 people), because the sauces are flavorful, a little goes a long way, especially when eaten with rice.

I totally forgot to take pictures of the food! I only remembered halfway through the meal. So here is what the containers look like, they were full when they arrived.

My mom liked the Mutton Rogan Josh, she actually went back for more rice twice! My dad also ate all the dishes. Although for me, I didn’t find it super delicious (I think the food at New Bombay was better back when it was still new and had just started expanding), it was still good and more than acceptable to my parents, which is what mattered. My mom found the Mutton Rogan Josh particularly flavorful (hence, 3 servings of rice!).

I think New Bombay is a good introduction to Indian food for people who are not really into Indian food yet. The flavors are not too wild, too weird, or too spicy for regular people. It is also one of the more affordable Indian restaurant options in Manila, with several branches to choose from now.

I know I know…this has been around the metro and yes, it’s my first time trying this one out. With all the limited Indian restaurants here, I guess choosing other cuisines were quicker. But last week, this was the chosen one. The tables were a little packed because they did try to maximize the space. They also have seating on the upper floor. They had the curtains rolled up just to give this illusion of a really open space.

I learned to like Indian food through New Bombay.

During my visit to this branch, my family, friends, and I tried a bunch of new dishes. One discovery I really enjoyed was the Mutton Rogan Josh. I liked it a lot more than their Mutton Masala.

I tried their Chicken Samosas also. It was dry but it was better when you eat it with the sauces they provide.

Their Mutton Biryani Ruce was awesome! It was a complete meal in one dish too.

This New Bombay branch had good food just like all other New Bombay branches. Service was good too.

Rating would have been better if their airconditioning was better. It was so warm. The servers even know that the restaurant is usually warm. They even have an electric fan but it is still too warm and almost uncomfortable to dine in.

Another Sunday and another order thru Zomato's excellent delivery platform. This time we wanted to try Indian food from New Bombay, Columns Branch.

We ordered 2 veggie dishes - Baingan Mirchi ka Salan (Eggplant with green chilies) and Palak Paneer - both were excellent.

Also ordered veg. samosas - good too. Chicken tikka biryani - good taste except for the chicken tikka which was very dry. Chicken Hariyali Tikka - not good, very tough and dry, tasteless.

I was also put off by the artificially green color of the Palak Paneer, Hariyali Tikka and the green chutney that came with the order. I hope the restaurant is using approved food colors- even so, there is no need to make the dishes so green

This place always got me coming back for more. When u got those cravings for some authentic Indian food this is the place to go. Authentic meaning they got a home boy in the back that isn't Filipino (Indian) that I call my friend... Haven't been here in a while with my friend so I just ordered the essentials. And for those who are sensitive to hot foods caution when they ask spicy? Say no or if u r feeling adventurous then dive right in...

Haven't really tried Indian food (does chicken curry count?) before we went to New Bombay's, and now that I have, I can't believe it took me this long to do so.

We came here for lunch, and we were glad we came early because as soon as we sat down people started coming in and pretty soon the place was packed. (If you want to eat lunch here, try to come in before 12pm.)

We had chicken kadai, fish tikka, and garlic and butter naan. Both the fish and chicken dishes were well-seasoned and paired well with the naan.

Texture-wise, I preferred the garlic one over the butter since it was crisper. Although the butter made the naan more flavorful, it did make it a bit soggy. Still, both are a great alternative if you don't feel like having rice.

I also sampled my friend's order of mango lassi, their yougurt-based version of a milkshake. It was was kind of like extra-thick Yakult. Not really my thing.

We have been craving for Indian food for a while now and New Bombay satisfied that craving! We ordered our fave #muttonroganjosh, the classic #drytandoorchicken, some plain #naan to mop up the sauce of the rogan josh, plain rice and #cucumberraita to balance the spicyness! It was a delicious dinner! Just a reminder though, you know how Indian restos rate their spicyness with mild, medium and hot?? If you can't handle too much hotness just get your meals mild. Our rogan josh was mild but still had a strong kick! I guess New Bombay is an authentic Indian Resto! The food came pretty quick however the temperature was not how we wanted. I like my food steamy hot and the food was quite warm-ish when they served it. The servings was generous especially the rice, I suggest maybe get one cup of rice to share and if needed just order another one. Service was hmm so-so. When we got there it was just the two of us there were 4 waitresses. One lady was attentive on the phone for take outs and the rest were busy fixing their hair, putting powder on their faces and just looking at the mirror all the time. The menus were a bit shabby and needs updating. We are happy with the food though so cheers to another's successful dinner date with my hubby! @newbombay #indianresto

I have given 3.5 only for decent Indian food in Makati city
Service is good few locals who do the service and take orders.free WiFi in the restaurant.

The lentils is not the best here.If you are a biriyani lover not the right place. Chapathis is very close to Indian standards and the Nan's good too.

Palak paneer was good and the curd is plain sweet yoghurt

Revisit day

Today tried hyderabadi biriyani and it tasted like methi rice. Have it as Methi Masala rice and its acceptable

The ambiance of this place is very mediocre. Tables are a bit rickety and the menu looks a little worn out. There is an open sink at the back, and not something that I would have expected.

The food on the other hand is very good. Quiet a revelation, finding such a nice restaurant in the middle of the town. Service delivery is very very quick. Order, talk about something with your companions and voila the food appears at your table.

They also allow you to carry your wine and only charge PHP 300 as a corkage fee.

I had ordered a Samosa, Mix Vegetable, Dal Makhni and Aloo Paratha and it was yum! :)

Definitely lived up to my expectations. The mutton biryani was really good. Serving's quite generous as well. One order can satisfy two very hungry people (or three not-so-hungry haha). I haven't tasted a legit chapati in a long time, so that was also a treat.

But I'm giving this branch a 4 instead of a 5 because I believe the service, in general, could still be improved.

This is totally the go-to place if you're looking for an indian cuisine. It gives you a feel of India upon stepping inside any of their branches. Also, their meals are really tasty and you have the option if you'd like it spicy or just mild, even no spice at all. Their lamb is soft and well cooked, and their lassi is also a must try! I definitely recommend trying out this restaurant, good food and good value!

This is at least our 3rd time in this branch and we came out with happy tummies as usual. Our orders consisted of all non-meat dishes so it was a good chance to move away from the usual mutton and chicken fares (in observance of Lent).

We ordered the veg samosas, veg kadai, fish tikka masala, tarkah dal and shrimp biryani. The curries were mopped-up by their nice unleavened chapatti breads. Their garlic naan is also highly-recommended. Don't believe the servers when they say that the biryani is only good for 2 persons. It's good for at least 4 if you also ordered breads! The "kadai" mix is one of my favorites even with the fish, mutton and chicken versions. The tarkah dal has been consistently good over the years. The samosas were quite alright.

For dessert, we had their gulab jamun, balls of bread-like pasties swimming in sweet syrup. Not a particular favorite of mine, but only one of these balls will easily wash off the taste and spice that linger on in one's mouth after a spicy Indian meal. Prices, though already increased over the past years, have remained to be fair.

Not really into Indian Food but after going into this restaurant can't help but crave for more!!!! :) My favorite was their Cheese Capsicum Nan!! Tastes like pandesal with cheese in the Philippines.. (just don't eat it cold coz it will be like your chewing a gum) :) We were with an Indian client that's why he was able to explain and suggest good Indian food... Although their curry was not that spicy (we only chose mild as recommended by our friend.) it was really good compared to what we have in the Philippines. All in all it was so much for first time... :) Will definitely go back!!! Aum Sweet Aum!! :PJust hoping their waiters would be more friendly and proactive.. Looking for authentic Indian food with a mix of spice and Indian touch, this is the place for you. Reasonably priced for great tests including lots of vegetarian options. Strongly recommend for Indian food lover.
This is supplemented by quick service and Hindi speaking owner.
They use lots of oils and ghee , this is only drawback for health conscious people and the reason for rating downgrade.

I did not expect that Indian cuisine could be so good. New Bombay is one of the few Indian restaurants serving great authentic Indian dishes. I love the Tandoori Chicken, Mutton Kadai and Saffron Rice. I've tried the Strawberry Lassi (yogurt drink). I didn't like it as it tasted like cough syrup. Overall, the dishes were commendable except for the drinks.

My bestfriend likes to check out new places to get food and one day we saw this spot in Greenbelt. The first thing that greeted us upon entering the place was the unusual scent. I can definitely smell a mixture of spices even from the door, which didn't stop us from coming in by the way. We asked for the specialty and since I am not very much accustomed to Indian food we followed the waiter's advise and we're all glad that we did. The palak paneer is really good and even if it's not something I would normally eat, I enjoyed it. I asked for my Chicken Tikka to be medium spicy, but it's still spicier than I have expected, my palate is probably not the same as the chef's but I still was able to savor every bite, I just had to order more rice! All in all, my experience with this resto merits the succeeding visits.

Numerous meetings in Salcedo Village are always made a easier by a working lunch. One of the few good places to order in from is New Bombay. Although, I wouldn't call it an authentic Indian culinary experience, for someone who is deprived of Indian food (as most people in Manila are), this restaurant offers a quick respite to your palate.

While I would classify their food as being fast-food Indian, they can surprise you with some of their dish preparations. The strong spice and mild coconut flavored Prawn Pulao is a distinctly Goan dish that will burn the sweet tongue of any Filipino, while the Butter Chicken will be adequately sweet for the local tastes. The rotis (flat wheat bread) are certainly authentic and freshly cooked. Can't say the same for the various chicken curry dishes as the gravy seems to be the same one used in all preparations.

All in all, a not-so-bad place to get food delivered from when you are craving to get away from the overdose of Asian cuisines in the city.
