This place gave me Benihana vibes, though the chefs here do not give as lively or flashy of a performance.
The salmon sashimi did not disappoint, neither did the other meats we ordered. The nigiri set was ok though. Would definitely still come back here again & I can’t wait until I do! :)
The experience of having the food cooked right in front of you is such a delight. 💕 The steak were cooked just right and we loveeeee the salmon aburi.
Everything is amazing in this restaurant! The service, the food and everything!! So good. You cant go wrong with Kimpura!
Kimpura is a restaurant that has stood the test of time, nearly an institution. Food is great and the restaurant is always packed to capacity.
I had their excellent Salmon Sashimi. Divinely fresh and fatty!
Yakiniku Teishoku was good, but not great. Thinly sliced U.S. beef grilled with garlic sauce. Served with miso soup, small salad, rice and dessert.
If it is Teppanyaki,Kimpura will always be first in mind.I grew up eating in this restaurant.I used to frequent the greenhills branch since it was so near our house.Of course, best to start and whet the appetite with a few sushi rolls and sashimi.I almost always have the Ribeye and prawn combination or the tenderloin with scallops combination
Dined here a couple of times already and have ordered the same thing, beef sukiyaki steak upgraded to fried rice. Already a set meal with soup, salad, pickles, and dessert, it's definitely priced on the high side but is really a value for money. Steak ordered was done to medium rare and is really tender and flavorful.
Also tried the ebi tempura and rib eye steak. Both awesome but pricey. Make sure to seat at the teppanyaki grill for the whole show. Servers are also attentive and chefs are friendly.
Will definitely go back.
We ordered the Manager set menu, the price for 10 person is 19k++peso, it’s super big feast for us.
Appetizers:
Sashimi, Kani Salad, California roll, Ell egg roll & Soup (all of them is good taste 😍)
Main Course:
Scallops, (4/5)
Tempura, (4/5)
Japanese Fried Rice (4/5)
Angus beef with beansprout (4/5)
Dessert:
Buko Ice cream (super yummy!)
The service is good! We booked a day before for the private room (no charge) and usually is fully booked if you not booked first.
Nice place.
When i step in, the ambience feels like chinese restaurant, but they had a lot teppanyaki table, thats the point if you like teppanyaki. If you looking for teppanyaki around legazpi, i would like recomend this place. Good service and taste delicious.

SPECIAL REMARKS:
If you don't mind sharing a table with complete strangers, choose to be seated on the teppanyaki grill (corner for two preferably). Its always the best choice when dining in Kimpura if you want to experience the culinary proficiency of authentic Japanese cooking. Nothing else to say about their dishes but worth every penny spent.
By the way, the U.S. Angus Rib Eye comes with free salad, soup and ice cream dessert.
Everyone loves grilled meats, but the Japanese have it down to an art - a performance art at that! I still remember the first time I dined at an authentic Teppanyaki restaurant, I was baffled and awestruck by the chefs' sleight of hand, breathtaking tricks (think juggling, tossing, speed-cutting, and literally explosive theatrics), and charisma they bring to the table, or in this case, an iron griddle known as a teppan.
In my opinion, Kimpura is one of the best Teppanyaki restaurants in the Metro. My favourite set is the Rib-Eye Steak & Prawns Special. Everything is grilled and served in front of you - steak, prawns, vegetables, even the rice. And speaking of rice, the fried rice here is so addictive, you'll be asking for seconds!
Aside from from the Teppanyaki sets, they also have excellent ala carte items such as sashimi, Japanese rolls, agedashi tofu, tempura, and noodles.
Dining at Kimpura is really is a Japanese food feast that's perfect for celebrations especially when you're in the trusty hands of a trained Teppanyaki Chef - your dinner entertainment is one of a kind and it will all be worth smelling like a BBQ for.
One of the staple Japanese restaurant from the 90’s. A classic. It’s safe and comforting. It’s where you’d take your folks to. Although there are a lot of relatively new players in the restaurant scene nowadays they are still
keep their loyal patrons.
Go for their:
-rib eye teppanyaki. consistent taste, quality and the way they prepare it.
- shrimp
- gindara
Maki’s are okay though. Not that bad, but nothing extravagant.
Opportunity for improvement:
1) Need to up their roll/ maki game so they’d be able to keep up with new demand of diners.
2) Tempura taste good, but prawn size is average.
If you want the whole show pick a seat by the misono table and watch them cook your tepanyaki 1st hand.
All their Teppans are great.

Just ate here this weekend. Brought back memories as my family used go often to the original in GH. So sad that's gone now but at least this branch is around. The experience was very good. Food was great. Good to see some of the staff in GH made their way to this branch.
I thought our last minute plan for Christmas Eve dinner will fail through, because most of the restaurants around are “fully booked”. So, after countless of searching and calling, we finally found this restaurant that made our Christmas Eve last minute plan went very well.
Kimpura speaks of exquisite dining experience. From its intricately designed entrance to its lavishly styled interiors. Left side from the entrance, you will see the sushi counter who is freshly prepared by the chef! Yummy..
We had..
Yaki Gyoza @Php150 Steamed dumplings of cabbage and pork with flavoured sauce.
Unagi Teishoku @Php775
Rib eye Steak and Prawns @Php 1,500- U.S. Black Angus rib eye steak and sea fresh-shelled prawns.
We supposed to order Tempura because we've seen that most of the customers ordered for it, but we are too full..
I haven't been to this branch before as I always go to the one in greenhills, which I heard was closing or might have already closed. For some reason, I like the food in GH better. The only thing better here might be the sukiyaki which had more meat although less soup. The chicken teriyaki was too small, only few pieces. The tempura was fine. Everything else including service was just as expected.
Like any other Japanese restaurants who values their food as an art, the proper preparation was mastered for years and to deliver satisfying food.
Here’s what we ordered:
Set of Sushi – Fresh and delicious, although I haven’t tried all of them as I’m afraid I will taste the fishy part and totally avoid sushi for the rest of my life, since this is my third time eating sushi, I didn’t love the first one, but I did enjoy the second one and third time.
TEMPURA WITH VEGGIES – This one is crunchy and delicious, they veggies will help you remove the satiate you have. best partnered with the Sushi it will neutralize the taste.
Overall experience: This restaurant has truly kept the fire burning as I’ve heard that they are the very first restaurants who survived up to this day–it cannot be questioned because they are truly masters the art of preparing Japanese cuisine, food are very fresh and delicious, staffs are easy to approach, the place is very clean and tidy.
My family has been Kimpura clients since their beginnings in the 70's. (I recall they divided their first restaurant into a tepanyaki side for food cooked on their large flat grills, and another side for food cooked at your table for nabemono or pot meals.) Unless we are out of the country I don't think there has been a run of 8 weeks that we wouldn't eat here!
While they have just about everything Japanese cuisine can offer, I can vouch for their kakiage (deep fried vegetable fritters) and sukiyaki (beef and vegetable pot dish), which are the best anywhere! Also great options are their yakitori (barbecued chicken thigh fillets) and mixed fried rice! Try any of these and you'll be Kimpura fans, too!
My Chinese friend declined our invite to join us for dinner here. She said the food wasn't that good.
But
We came here for the teppanyaki and boy it was soooo good!
I understand that there were hit and missed on our add-on ala carte orders but our teppan main was really scrumptious that it didn't put a damper to the unified consensus that it was worth reserving an exclusive room with a teppanyaki table. And it was a bonus that Chef Jess was nice and indulgent in preparing properly our food.
Despite being cocooned in a room, the staff were not remised in attending to what we needed since either they kept checking on us or you just buzz the button to get their attention.
To customers who may have been avid diners of the defunct misono of Saisaki along EDSA, this is the next best thing :) I know, I know, it's not eat-all-can but it still worth spending your money on 😋😋😋
My two friends are broaching the subject of a repeat 😝😝😝.
Ordered a gyudon. It was alright. I wish there were more toppings in general, but tastewise its decent. My friend ordered the salmon skin roll and said it was his favorite thing on the menu. He then ordered 2 more for take out - so that might be worth a try.
Grew up eating in this restaurant with my family and it hasn't changed! The quality and taste of the food is still excellent. The service is quick and the staff is friendly.
Must order: their sukiyaki and of course, their tempura!!!!!! And also, anything in their teppanyaki options like their steak (of course) and fried rice ✨
My boss has taken our team out here a number of times because she really loves the establishment. Food is delicious and quality is consistent. Service of the staff is also great. Thanks for the wonderful dining experiences!
Went here with our team and my boss for a dinner meeting. The place is nice and we got a room just for us so the chef can cook the food while we're watching.
There was quite a lot of food on the table. But I liked the beef and the salmon better (and of course the California maki too). Staff are nice and friendly too. This place is good for family dinners or business meeting where you can socialize better.
Its best to have a reservation on weekends as the place is popular for groups or families. Its been around for a solid 40 years that all started in Makati Commercial Center (yes, the family favorite way back) now its based in GB5 with branches as well in Greenhills and Trinoma. "KIM" for gold and "PURA" for tempura hence "Golden Tempura".
We always get a table at the Teppanyaki table, nothing beats the experience of having the food cooked and served fresh right in front of you. We always order their Tuna (Dad's favorite) and Salmon sashimi, and miso soup. Their Sukiyaki is always nice (my sister's favorite).
For Teppanyaki, we always have cupfuls of their fried rice, Sukiyaki steak (thinly sliced and medium) with bean sprouts, mixed seafoods, lobster tail and oysters.
Service has always been impeccable, and warm. Although many Japanese restaurants have spruced up, Kimpura is an institution that has stayed in the hearts of many.
Solid Japanese food at Greenhills. Sushi was good, tempura had a good crisp. Nothing compared to sushi in Japan or LA, but a solid option in Manila.
I craved for unagi, and Kimpura delivered! Last time I dined here was back when it was still located in Glorietta. The staff is still nice. The food is still awesome. The place seemed too crowded than how it was before?

We went here for my birthday and didn't regret dining here at all (except for the bill). Their teppanyaki are to try for, you get to watch a real chef cook it right in front of you to assure it's freshly cooked. You also get to choose the wellness of your steak and I'm quite impressed because of the precision of their cooking. The beef is very tender and tasty, exploding with flavor and very juicy. I also loved their tofu steak so much because of its special sauce. The place is perfect for family gatherings because of the big and clean space and staff are very accommodating. Will certainly keep coming back here!
This is a nice restaurant when you have special guests over. They have private room and your own chef that will prepare all the dishes in front of you.
However, I did not like the Sushi or Sashimi, thought it was pretty average.
The tenderloin Tepanyaki is dope. You won't find much better.
Although there are many newest and (arguably) better Japanese restaurants in Manila, Kimpura is jap comfort food at its finest. Their tempura is still the best and their ribeye teppanyaki, gindara and mixed fried rice always hit the spot.
This is a really food teppan restaurant. If you are entertaining clients it is better to reserve a room. The chef will cook the food in front of you and serve food on heated plates so your food is always warm. It is a nice experience to watch them cook. :)
Kimpura has been a favorite restaurant of mine since I was 9 yrs old. After 40 years, they've managed to maintain quality, taste, and service. I only eat 4 dishes here: their sirloin steak, tempura, oysters, and tuna sashimi. The very same dishes I've been having since the 1970's. Kimpura will always be special to me.
Visited Kimpura recently while with my Mom doing errands around Makati.
After a whole morning of moving locations, we knew we deserved a great meal. And that usually means Japanese food in my family. So we decided to go to Kimpura in Greenbelt. We arrived a little after 12:30pm, and was lucky enough to have a table.
I ordered my usuals—uni gunkan and salmon belly nigiri. And for our mains, my Mom and I got the chicken teppanyaki, soft shell crab tempura, yasai itame, the famous Kimpura fried rice, and miso soup!
As expected the uni and salmon belly were fresher than fresh! The first bite of each morsel was such a treat! The chicken tepanyaki was filling and cooked just right. I know it’s such a basic recipe, but you don’t know how many restaurants screw it up from overcooking the chicken. The best part about that dish was the sauce though! The soft shell crab tempura was satisfying, crispy on the outside, juicy within. The rice and miso wrapped the whole meal up by being always, always comforting. I recommend ordering all of these items. Also they have a wide array of Tepanyaki that is an absolute must!
Service, food, and ambiance topnotch! This is why Kimpura has always been and will always be one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in the city. ❤
We have a soft spot for Kimpura Greenbelt. The sashimi is always so fresh and smooth, the sushi rolls are great especially their Kimpura roll and Special spicy Ebi roll and their sukiyaki and yosenabi soup chunky and generous! Come highly recommended.
I've been eating at Kimpura for more than 15 years or so now, dating back to their original branch in...I forgot what it was called, I guess in the original Quad or something, near Rustans Makati and when that branch closed we'd trek to Greenhills. Good thing they opened in GB5. Funny thing is all those years of dining at Kimpura, we never ordered anything else except for their teppanyaki - rib eye, shrimp and Japanese fried rice! Same thing every time! And it never disappoints. (Though sometimes the quality or taste varies depending on the teppanyaki chef serving you that night)
One of the best Japanese restaurants here in Manila, which has stood the test of time. I love the teppanyaki especially ika/cuttlefish, scallops and wagyu ribeye. Off-menu items I like are the crunchy crazy maki and kobachi tofu. But above eveything else, nothing beats Kimpura's Japanese fried rice!!
I recently dined in Kimpura with a bunch of my relatives from abroad that were craving for good Japanese food. Good thing I read reviews that this place was a good enough place to dine in. It did not disappoint. Not only was the service good, but the food too was excellent! We were given a private room to enjoy in and my relatives simply loved the food that was served. My favorite of course would have to be the ebi tempura!
I like Kimpura as it houses one of the best tasting ebi tempura I have ever tried. The dish, every time I order it, always tastes the same and the size of the shrimp is not small like others. Right ratio of shrimp to out outer covering and cooked just perfectly.
More modern looking and brighter in lighting than its other branches, Kimpura still offers the best tasting ebi tempura for me and i simply cannot get enough of it. I also like their tepanyaki tables and often order their steaks which are cooked really perfectly by their chefs. Excellent service and really good dining experience every time i visit this place.

For me, they have the best tasting (and looking) ebi tempura. I also like to pair it with their tofu steak. Their tofu steak is quite soft and silky. And the pork bits that goes with it is cooked perfectly. Every now and then I also order their fried rice which is cooked in front of you if you are in the teppanyaki table. I think that the cooking is half the fun right there.
Still a classic... Over 40yrs in business helps. This place is consistent, consistent, consistent... You get want you expect. Teppanyaki is their expertise for sure! They do need to fix or add more AC, restaurant is warm.
My visit to Kimpura was okay. Despite an incredibly crowded restaurant, considering the crowd isn't as heavy in general in Greenbelt 5, we were able to luckily land a table as soon as we walked in.
The thing about the restaurant though, is there's nothing that stands out in the menu. I went through it twice, thrice, four times, and I wasn't sure what to order. Nothing seemed particularly enticing or appealing and so I was having a hard time picking something to eat.
Eventually, we ended up ordering the Syo sushi set and a U.S. Angus Ribeye steak from the Teppanyaki menu. Our table also ordered the Tofu Den Gaku and Yaki Gyoza for appetizers. I have to admit that the Syo sushi set was delicious, probably because I was craving sushi and it came out pretty good. Not the best, but good. It definitely also helped that it was plated very pleasingly and the different kinds of sushi on the plate made it look full of variety. Also, the Tofu Den Gaku was surprisingly delicious. I don't know how they do it, but that Miso Glaze just goes real good with the tofu.
Unfortunately, the gyoza was nothing special and the teppanyaki was not as interesting as I would've hoped. I guess it's true that you're missing out on the real experience of the restaurants (as other reviewers have mentioned) if you're not sitting at the teppanyaki itself. The set consists of: miso soup (which was delicious, thanks to the addition of small clams in it), a salad (just okay), steamed rice, and a dessert (we opted for ice cream). The main course itself, just okay since without the flare and cooking entertainment, it's just beef with sauce and vegetables.
Hence, Kimpura is just so-so. It's not bad, but there's nothing I'm particularly interested in or find to be a must-have compared to other restaurants. There are some good points (the sushi and the Tofu Den Gaku) but they're main seller, the steak from the teppanyaki does not hold any water on its own. Without sitting and experiencing a chef cooking for you, smelling the cooking food (and getting your appetite up), and having it delivered straight to your plate once cooked, it just doesn't seem like worth the bother to order. It might be of note too that it was somewhat hard to get service in the restaurant. Whether to follow-up on food that seemed to be taking longer than needed, or even just asking for the bill, it seemed like we needed to ask several times before we got what we needed. If you're planning to visit, try to reserve a spot ahead at the teppanyaki and be sure that you don't have any reason to be rushing because I can't guarantee you will get the bill in time.

With the popularity of a lot of jap resto, kimpura remains a classic. Not to say that they are the best. But eating at kimpura brings back a lot of childhood memory.
The classic combination for me are the fried rice, tempura, steak and the oysters.
There fried rice has its own distinct flavor that I love.
Price is on the high side, but it's always a good choice for special occasion or a mini treat every so often.
7.5/10 for me
My family and I make sure that we eat here at least once when we are in town.
We normally just sit at a tepanyaki table and have their steak and fried rice cooked right in front of you.
My only issue is that they seem to have perpetual problems with their exhaust
Still one of the better Japanese teppanyaki restaurants in town. For the experience, one must dine in one of their teppanyaki tables. Seafood teppan is a must, and they also serve one of the best fried rice dishes, cooked right in front of you. Dining there, however, comes at a higher price tag.
Kimpuara for us is the best Japanese restaurant. My Dad would bring us to Kimpura whenever we would crave great Japanese food. So happy that they are consistent in the quality of their food even after so many years. And nothing beats the friendly and attentive staff.
Remember how your childhood memories tends to hype up what you experienced? Well that was the case for Kimpura for me.
Albeit it being a tasty meal all-in-all, I can honestly say that it wasn't as good as I remember it to be.
I ate there with my family and it had been awhile since we had come back. I remember the misono table, which is still a must for first time or repeat diners, and most of all I remember the food.
This was perhaps one of the first places that introduced me to the wonders of Tofu and the pork and tofu dish was indeed still as good as I remember it to be. It had lovely strips of pork and vegetables along with nice, firm tofu.
The miso soup was a conundrum for me really, it had a clam in it which threw me off, it was different from the regular miso soups I normally have. It was good, but in the end I am still a purist and a sucker for the classics.
We had the steak and chicken, plus the chicken and shrimp (what can I say? My family loves steak). Most importantly we had the Japanese Fried Rice. Now you can't go to Kimpura without trying the Japanese Fried Rice, it's just lovely. It's tasty and quite frankly, a joy to watch as they make it. Add an order of all shrimp tempura and you have a winner!
Again the food was quite tasty, but I remember it being much better? Perhaps my taste has changed or perhaps I over romanticized it in my memories, so I will have to say that it didn't live up to my expectations.
It was good, but not as good as I remember. The price was a little steep but manageable if you order the right things I suppose. Service, above average.
I would definitely eat there again, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to go there. In the end though, I still recommend it. Cheers!
When mucking around Greenbelt 5, enjoy Japanese comfort food at Kimpura! I had such a wonderful time, this is definitely one of those restaurants I'd keep coming back to. The dishes may be pricey, but everything they serve are of the highest quality, it really is worth shelling out for.
Kimpura speaks of an exquisite dining experience. From its intricately designed entrance to its lavishly styled interiors, Kimpura welcomes Japanese food lovers to a new dimension in gastronomic feast. They have a wide array of authentic and innovative Japanese dishes conceived and perfected through the years by their passionate Japanese chefs. Four decades of uncompromised standards in food quality and excellent service have earned Kimpura a special niche in the hearts of Filipino families, Japanese diners and visiting tourists.
It took us a while to read through their extensive menu. We stuck to our old favorites and got an order of Shake, or Salmon Sashimi. Just look at that generous piece of salmon! With it's bright peach color and no trace of fishiness, this is probably the best (and freshest) piece of salmon I've ever tasted. Exquisitely soft and full of flavor, each piece was absolutely amazeballs!
Always in the mood for something spicy, I ordered a Kimpura Roll. Made of spicy tuna, lettuce, cucumber and mango, this maki packed just the right amount of heat.
We watched in awe as our Teppanyaki chef cooked all of our dishes. Even something as simple as Fried Rice was turned into an art form. Check out his one-handed egg opening technique. He cooks with ninja-like precision, it makes me think there should have been a Naruto episode where they had a ninja-battling chef.
"Would you like some MSG?" he asked. "No, thank you." I said. I mean come on, in this day and age, who voluntarily wants MSG in their food?
The teppanyaki dishes are flavored with Japanese wine and special teppanyaki sauce grilled on Kimpura's misono tables. Our chef prepared the blue marlin first. We watched as he sliced a big, square chunk into smaller, bite-sized pieces, his knife cutting through the fish like a hot knife through butter.
The Sukiyaki Steak was another wonder to behold as the experienced chef cooked this simple dish in some garlic, oil, and teppanyaki sauce. Watching the delicate pink strips of beef turn a delectable shade of brown. The sukiyaki was very, very tender, almost buttery, almost melting in your mouth with each bite.
We shared a teppanyaki table with a couple who ordered some Atsu Age Tofu, or fried tofu, and I took mental noted of how to make the perfect fried tofu - golden and crisp on the outside while remaining silky on the inside.
The Kajiki, or Blue Marlin, was perfectly cooked, as expected. It came with a mild dipping sauce, but it really didn't need anything, it was seasoned to perfection as is.
I marveled at how the chef executed the U.S. Roshu Sirloin. He trimmed the fat off the steak first and cooked that before the rest of the steak, using the melted fat as oil for the actual meat. Oh. My. Glob.
We ended our dinner on a high note with an order of Tempura Ice Cream. I was curious to see how the ice cream wouldn't melt after being fried in the tempura batter. The vanilla ice cream was covered with a layer of sponge cake before being dipped in tempura batter and fried.
