Ikomai is the best restaurant in Salcedo Saturday Market. Must tries are Chicken Karaage, shrimp, and Moriawase. I have never eaten such high quality Karaage in my life. The shrimp is very fresh. If you are hungry you must try assorted(moriawase).

Experienced breakfast in Ikomai last September (late post here). But all is still clear, the place is nice and perfect for breakfast date.

I had their Salmon Shioyaki (P320), it has a lightly salted grilled Salmon, egg roll, rice & soup. And it is served with brewed coffee.

Verdict: surprisingly filling, and i love it! The plating is nice, thought taks 15-20 mins before serving. But worth the wait! Place a nice ambiance also

I think the lunch sets are a steal considering how sophisticated the place looks. I’ve tried the duck udon set and the unagi rice set and both tasted good! I preferred duck udon set as the broth had this special kick to it. The unagi is also not what you may be used to but still food. For the cookies, i only really liked the salted macadamia. The menu is certainly exciting enough for you to want to try more!

Good Japanese restaurant in Salcedo Village. It is also a place to relax and unwind with friends. It has great desserts too. The servings are quite small than expected but all in all still a good restaurant.

Traffic in the Philippines is a fearsome force of nature, but in the name of food and learning, along with the promise of sweets, I braved the EDSA crowd to go to Makati.

The event was hosted by California Raisins, in Ikomai and Tochi, a trendy restaurant in a small street along Salcedo Village. It was a fun-filled day of learning that started off with an exhibition of their products, a satisfying lunch, and a cooking demonstration. I’ll talk about that more later.

California Raisins is a grower-based global brand that grows and produces all the raisins being consumed by the US in Fresno, California, hence the name. Two thirds of their production go to the US and Canada, while the rest are exported all over the world.

Raisins are little morsels—Mother Nature’s candy, so to speak— that loaded with a natural sweetness of their own. These also come with a ton of antioxidants, and a decent amount of vitamin C.

Aside from being added to desserts and baked goods, raisins can also be used in savory dishes. Ikomai and Tochi’s owner and executive chef James Antolin demonstrates that in the lunch menu served, which include the following:

- Fresh Green Salad: features crisp green lettuce, watermelon cubes and deep-fried tempura accentuated with a light vinaigrette dressing. Crisp sheets of dehydrated raisins are sprinkled liberally on the dish for that refreshing touch of sweetness.

- Buta Kakuni: a Japanese-style braised pork belly that showcases a good ratio between fat and tender pork, which is then slow-cooked in a soy sauce and sweet raisin glaze.

- Skin-on Roasted Salmon Chan Chan Yaki: salmon fillet marinated in a raisin puree for that contrast of sweet and briny flavors. The skin was pan-fried for a crisp texture that belied soft flaky flesh.

- Garlic Chahan: a pilaf rice dish featuring a myriad of flavors— roasted garlic, aromatic saffron, and bites of sweet sultanas for a summery flavor. It is a hearty accompaniment to viands with subtle flavors of its own.

My stay here was short lived. I will look to find a way to come back and indulge more of Chef James’ offerings.

Ikomai and Tochi is my go-to place for Japanese comfort food. Nice ambiance, attentive staff and modern Japanese food. My favorites are their yakimono, kushikatsu, yakiniku chahan and harami steak. Location is perfect too - walking distance from my place! For those who are driving, Ikomai has ample parking slots as well.

They have probably noticed me as a regular, so one night a staff approached me to extend an invitation for their special anniversary dinner and got my contact information. I ended up not going due to conflict of schedule, but I was touched!

We always love the ambiance in Ikomai and service is impeccable. Just wish they served more variety with their dishes as their poke and rolls tend to taste the same. Nevertheless, we love it here since it’s close to our office

Enjoyed every dish & every bit of our lunch date...with a lil’ Buzz.🤪 Beautiful & creative modern Japanese food by Chef James Antolin. Make sure you leave room for dessert because they have really good desserts as well.
Can’t wait to be back.
