Kagura located in Little Tokyo serves one of the best Okonomiyaki’s in Manila!

Tried
~ Okonomi Mix (Pork, Shrimp, Squid, Egg) P330
~ Japanese Fried Noodles / Totori Tamago Omosuba with Scarmbled Egg on top P260

Review

✔️ Big Serving (1 order is good for 2)
The serving of the Okonomiyaki is so huge that my boyfriend and I had a hard time finishing it! The batter is tasty, it didn’t taste bland unlike other Okonomiyakis. The batter had a moist texture, it wasn’t dry and very appetizing to eat! They also didn’t scrimp on the toppings. The brown sauce they used on top which I guess had umami screamed authentic Japanese!
I just wish they added more sauce cause it was so good! 💛

✔️ Cozy Ambiance
Dining here felt like I was really in Japan. All the decorative pieces were a mix of traditional Japanese and famous Jap Character collection figures.
Some servers can speak Japanese and a lot of Japanese eat here!

✔️ Amazing Authentic Food + Good Drinking Place
They also serve Japanese Beer and Alchoholic Beverage here! If you want a lax hang out place in Little Tokyo this one is a good spot!

🏈 If you’re a baseball fan, you will appreciate the owner’s love for Tigers! The resto is bombarded with lots of Tigers posters and memorabilas. They also have a lot of Tiger souvenirs everywhere!

The place for tasty Okomomiyaki! I had mine with tuna and corn. You can witness the cooking. The pancake, of eggs, veggies and chosen toppings, is topped with sweet okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise and seaweed flakes and bonito flakes. Has a crunchy and juicy texture

This Japanese Restaurant provides an authentic taste of simple japanese food, located in little tokyo in makati, I could say that one of the greater takoyaki balls that I have tasted was here in little tokyo, a must try if you ever go here, as well as try their bento boxes, which is fully loaded. Worth a try.

This is my all time favorite Japanese food. When I was still studying Japanese language, I always crave for okonomiyaki. Before ramen and tempura this gorgeous food here is still my number one. Last night I brought my boyfriend for the first time in Little Tokyo, we shared and I was surprised that he actually liked it.

Will definitely come back here again.

Food is great! The sashimi though is a little bit pricey for a few slices, but the overall experience is good, I give it 4 stars for food, maybe 3 1/2 for the place, and 4 for the service. #littletokyo

Their okonomiyaki never disappoints. I always have it everytime I go here.

Also tried:
* hanshin ika-yaki - flat batter fried with squid - lighter version of okonomiyaki for me
* saute chicken wings - surprisingly good and cheap but "nakakabitin"
* ebi tempura - not so satisfied with this. I've had better.

Recommendation: Okonomiyaki must be tried with Hana's takoyaki!

Kagura has been on my to-go list for the longest time because of their okonomiyaki. After visiting them today, I could say that my expectations about this popular Japanese comfort food were more than met. I and my boyfriend dined here on a Sunday night at 6 PM, and we were the first customers. There were lots of Japanese expats there too, which we took as a very good sign over the quality and authenticity of the food.

FOOD: ★★★★★ (5.0)
We ordered the Okonomi-special (Php 440) because of the ingredients that went into it. Cooked and served in 15-20 minutes, this famous savory pancake was served still smoking hot (which was a good thing), and hit all the right spots. Everything was cooked just right, and the taste was just...wow. My partner went so far as to remark that theirs was way better than Dohtonbori's okonomiyaki when it comes to taste and satisfaction. If you're wondering how big it was, imagine a giant takoyaki flattened to more than 1/2 inch thick, to a size that's slightly larger (if not the same) as Pizza Hut's personal pan pizzas. So yeah, if you have a small appetite, better bring someone with you as their okonomiyaki's good for two.

For drinks, we ordered Coke (Php 60) and a glass of umeshu (Japanese plum wine - Php 180). The latter tasted similar to white wine and served with ice, which I liked. The 12.5% alcoholic content may not be good for those with low tolerance though, so be warned. One glass was enough for me to feel that buzz. Good thing my partner was there to look after me. Ahaha.

PLACE: ★★★✩✩ (3.5)
Cozy but small, with Hanshin Tigers paraphernalia decorating the interiors. There's a counter with 10 seats where you can watch the chefs cook your order. There are three tables where you can sit on floor pillows, which can accomodate approx. 4 people each. They get filled up quickly though; I highly recommend coming here early with your group if you want to sit there. Otherwise, you can also dine outside al fresco.

SERVICE: ★★★✩✩ (3.5)
Staff were attentive and quick, although not very cheerful. They also chose where you get to sit, so if you're dining alone (or as a couple, like we did), you'll sit by the counter. We witnessed this also when a Chinese/Korean couple came in and requested to sit by the tatami tables; the staff told them they couldn't and redirected them to the counter.

Overall, it was an enjoyable experience. Aside from the 12% VAT they don't have service charge, so try giving them tips if you're satisfied with their service. We sure were. :)

We'll definitely come back here again to try the modern-yaki...this time as a group. 😋

What I liked:
● The okonomiyaki
● The price - reasonable enough. No service charge, too 😀

What I didn't like:
● The fact you couldn't sit at the tatami tables unless you're with a big group.
● The slightly less cheerful service.

Everything on it Okonomiyaki. Nice crispy exterior and moist inside. Actually tastes like a takoyaki pizza in case you haven’t tried this.

They take reservations so better call in advance or suffer the wait.

Okonomiyaki can serve 1-2 people. It isn't common to have this dish with noodles inside so you might want to give it a shot. It's big, delicious, and the sauce is sweet. Enhance the flavor with good toppings like Dried Bonito Shavings.

Try a glass of Japanese Plum Wine!

You can watch Japanese television on the left or right side of the bar.

Interior is small.

Have you ever tried Okononomiyaki? This Osaka soul food can be found at the heart of Little Tokyo in a restaurant called Kagura. Once you find this restaurant adorned with Hanshin Tigers souvenir items, you're in the right place. Okonomiyaki is a dish made of nagaimo, eggs, shredded cabbage, pork belly, octopus, squid, shrimp, cheese, etc. This is topped with bonito flakes that move lively while it's served. The taste is savory with a very good texture. I had also tried the crunchy tempura at this place which was one of the best I had in the metro. I noticed this place is always full, so better reserve or come in early to enjoy indoor dining. Price per head is 300 - 600.

First tip when eating at Japanese restaurant's, only eat what the place is known for. So with this, Okonomiyaki only. It was delicious, one serving is good for almost 3-4 people. A single pan is heavy enough for all.

Located inside little tokyo, this restaurant's proud with their Okonomiyaki. We had tempura, saute pork with egg roll, flat fish with sweet teriyaki sauce and of course, okonomiyaki. Their tempuras were huge and kinda pricey (well, expect that for a tempura), nothing extraordinary. Their saute pork was kinda dry but their flat fish with sweet teriyaki sauce was to die for!!! For their okonomiyaki, we ordered the one with most ingredients as it's their bestseller. Nothing special with it, however. Ambiance-wise, authentic. Price-wise, above average.

I didn’t find anything special with their okonomiyaki. The same goes for the saute pork with egg roll, which was just like dry pork chop topped with egg. What I do recommend is the flatfish with the sweet teriyaki sauce The tempura was also great, but be prepared to get full after eating a few pieces because they’re huge! Try to get a table outside to fully enjoy the Japanese dining experience. We had the mistake of getting a table inside the restaurant, the next thing we knew, they started grilling and our eyes started to water.

If a restaurant serves only one kind of dish, you know it'll be worth it to try even once!!! This place only serves okonomiyaki. Went to this place out of a craving to eat legit Japanese food and voila! Oh! I mean, sugoi!! Shrimp and pork combination is a must!! It's located in little tokyo which creates a good Japanese vibe as well !

This is a bona-fide joint. I've been here more times than I can count. Consistent quality with their okonomiyaki. It's the usual Japanese Pancake, but it's never cooked badly. I love the consistency of the dish as well as the toppings. Another dish of note is the Yakisoba! Absolutely delicious, and packed full of flavor without being too greasy. The price is very agreeable also. Recommended.

Definitely loved my first time here. The prices are reasonable if you are really looking for great Japanese food. Yaki-udon and Okonomimix were my fave. Loved their Deep Fried Bean Curd! Not a fancy place for date night, the atmosphere feels like those you see in Japanese Ramen Houses, paper lanterns and all.

Their okonomiyaki is really great. One order is actually good for two but sometimes you just can't help it so suit yourself. Only downside of not sharing is that you'd be too full for their yakisoba which is also good.

Only reason I didn't give a 5 star is that the place can be crowded most times so you'll have to eat outside where it's not too comfortable.

Somehow the night I had planned to imbibe in Spanish culture (Spanish Film Fest in Greenbelt 3 by Instituto Cervantes) ended up with me and Yo (my self proclaimed wingman - although we never did get around to doing the "bros" thing) eating in Little Tokyo. How "Buenas Noches" became "Konnbanwa" will certainly be one of my most memorable wild goose chases ever - and also a lesson in never underestimating the level of Filipinos' cultural sophistication on a Saturday night when the movie ticket is a steal at 100 pesos only.

After trying to save the night by trying to settle on an alternate movie to watch - even though none of the current Hollywood fare looked appealing - I just said "F*ck it, let's just go to Little Tokyo!" - well no, not really, but the sentiment was certainly there.

So off we went to Little Tokyo - which we nearly missed because I was averting my eyes from some women dressed in a way that was "assets-focused" to put it primly, who were standing in front of the mini "torii" to Little Tokyo. (Chicks in front of the "torii", geddit? Sorry, that was very non-PC - too much "umeshu" at the bar, obviously.)

The placed was packed to the gills -- yet, quite quiet really. Even with a smattering of caucasians and Filipinos, I guess guests took to Japanese sensibilities as well and were less rowdier than expected in an enclosed space packed with establishments offering alcohol - Little Tokyo being a cluster of "izakayas" after all.

Anyway, I had long wanted to fulfill a pilgrimage to Kagura for an authentic okonomiyaki (a conviction that was formed after a Teppan Shoujo Akane! marathon). We ordered a regular okonomiyaki with pork, squid, shrimp, egg and cheese, and a modan-yaki (an okonomiyaki with noodles) with chicken skin, and egg. We washed those down with Cerveza Negra and - the highlight of the evening (at least for me) - a cool glass of umeshu (plum wine) which was beyond delicious! I promptly abandoned my bottle of Cerveza.

Even though, okonomiyaki is often referred to as "pancakes" eating them was certainly not as "easy as pancakes", because it is pretty heavy fare if you consider all the savory ingredients and meat that goes into the batter. We took frequent breaks to take snapshots of baseball memorabilia that decorated the place - it seems like the owner is a Hanshin Tigers fan (just like that guy with the page-boy haircut in Densha Otoko).

Eventually, we did manage to put down three-fourths of our meal before we called "uncle". Not a bad cultural exchange, if you ask me. Bad pun, sorry.

LITTLE TOKYO FOODTRIP: Okonomiyaki Perfection

I have eaten at Little Tokyo a bunch of times in the past, but usually at the restaurants facing the Chino Roces side. So when my friends and I decided to go on a food-trip session and explore the inside for a change, it was a very lovely surprise.

Design-wise, the area is enclosed by six or seven different Japanese restaurants with al fresco seating. It gives of an over-all feeling of being in Japan, of course, with paper lanterns and a garden in the middle.

We opted to try Kagura first, and sat outside since inside was fully occupied. I had read good things about their Okonomiyaki dishes and was eager to try it out. So we got a chicken-skin and egg one for about P250 with additional shrimp for P80. (Menu prices in Zomato are not updated).

Service-wise, it was expected that this would possibly be a little slow. There looked to be only two servers for the entire space, which was not that big. They were very efficient though once their attention is called.

Note: Upon asking if we could order from other restaurants, the waitress told us we were actually allowed to get one dish. A fair enough rule.
Food-wise, the Okomiyaki arrived within 20 minutes on a skillet, nice and hot. I thought it was be heavy but it turned out that more of the filling was comprised of the cabbage than batter, which we preferred. There was a generous amount of sauce and mayonnaise on top. As for the filling, there were a few shrimps here and there and I could taste the saltiness of the chicken skin.

It was a good dish, but I think that P80 for additional shrimps was a bit steep considering that there were about 8 small pieces in total. I did enjoy it though and would come back to try their other combinations.

Over-all, I am giving them a 4.0 for my experience because this is one of the more authentic-seeming versions of Okonomiyaki I have ever tried. Definitely crave-worthy. I would recommend it to friends who enjoy this dish.

Kagura Okonomiyaki offers a taste of authentic Japanese cuisine to Makati City. Situated in Little Tokyo, this restaurant cooks one of the most delicious Okonomiyaki in Metro Manila at an affordale price.

I was able to try the Pork & Egg, Octopus & Egg, and Chicken Skin & Egg Okonomiyaki during my last visit. My favorite is by far the Pork and Egg Okonomiyaki - one of their bestsellers. It was perfectly cooked with the right amount of sauce. Each piece can be shared by 2 people, but I recommend eating the entire dish yourself.

The service was pretty bad, but that's to be expected in Little Tokyo.

The place really takes you to Japan with their intricate Japanese designs, but if you're looking for a comfortable air-conditioned place to eat I wouldn't recommend Kagura because you probably will eat outside.

Food Quality: 3.5
Service Quality: 2.5
Ambiance:3.5

Overall Rating: 3.5

Dine in Kagura Okonomiyaki and have one of the tastiest Okonomiyaki in Metro Manila.

I would say that their Okonomiyaki was no doubt delicious. Please don't make a mistake of ordering it just for yourself. It's actually good for two people. I ordered okonomiyaki with tamago, shrimp and octopus. This really works well with a glass of beer. They put an ample amount of seafood, seasonings and sauces on top which would complement the thickness of the dish. For the food, I would definitely recommend this. However, next time, I would rather have it for take out as I was not pleased with the staff. They almost always have sullen faces, not friendly enough for the customers, ( btw, all prices are exclusive of 12% tax).

Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancakes) Rocks!!! The selection and the salty seafood flavour of the benito reminds me of our time in Tokyo where we stumbled across a hidden okonomiyaki bar in the middle of a highrise.

Kagura offers a wide selection of okonomiyaki is vast and delicious. You can have pork, squid, egg and octopus... you can also have a noodle version of the pancake! Its topped with a layer of savoury japanese mayo and the rich dark okonomiyaki sauce. It pairs so well with beer! My favourite japanese beer is the pale suntory out of the keg. It was freezing when we had it in Tokyo while stumbling across the empty streets.

Kagura also serves fluffly tako yaki! (Octopus balls) but okonomiyaki its at!

I've been to Little Tokyo several times but this is the first time I've visited this place (since we usually make okonomiyaki at home). I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised with how tasty their seafood okonomiyaki was! Batter had good seasoning and portions were generous. In fact, I would say the taste is authentic! Can't believe I missed out on this place for so long! Will definitely return :)
