Kagura located in Little Tokyo serves one of the best Okonomiyaki’s in Manila!

Tried
~ Okonomi Mix (Pork, Shrimp, Squid, Egg) P330
~ Japanese Fried Noodles / Totori Tamago Omosuba with Scarmbled Egg on top P260

Review

✔️ Big Serving (1 order is good for 2)
The serving of the Okonomiyaki is so huge that my boyfriend and I had a hard time finishing it! The batter is tasty, it didn’t taste bland unlike other Okonomiyakis. The batter had a moist texture, it wasn’t dry and very appetizing to eat! They also didn’t scrimp on the toppings. The brown sauce they used on top which I guess had umami screamed authentic Japanese!
I just wish they added more sauce cause it was so good! 💛

✔️ Cozy Ambiance
Dining here felt like I was really in Japan. All the decorative pieces were a mix of traditional Japanese and famous Jap Character collection figures.
Some servers can speak Japanese and a lot of Japanese eat here!

✔️ Amazing Authentic Food + Good Drinking Place
They also serve Japanese Beer and Alchoholic Beverage here! If you want a lax hang out place in Little Tokyo this one is a good spot!

🏈 If you’re a baseball fan, you will appreciate the owner’s love for Tigers! The resto is bombarded with lots of Tigers posters and memorabilas. They also have a lot of Tiger souvenirs everywhere!

The place for tasty Okomomiyaki! I had mine with tuna and corn. You can witness the cooking. The pancake, of eggs, veggies and chosen toppings, is topped with sweet okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise and seaweed flakes and bonito flakes. Has a crunchy and juicy texture

Place has limited space.

But for the food, so far this would be my fave japanese restuarant.
Food is really delish, i can say the price is fair.

This Japanese Restaurant provides an authentic taste of simple japanese food, located in little tokyo in makati, I could say that one of the greater takoyaki balls that I have tasted was here in little tokyo, a must try if you ever go here, as well as try their bento boxes, which is fully loaded. Worth a try.

This is my all time favorite Japanese food. When I was still studying Japanese language, I always crave for okonomiyaki. Before ramen and tempura this gorgeous food here is still my number one. Last night I brought my boyfriend for the first time in Little Tokyo, we shared and I was surprised that he actually liked it.

Will definitely come back here again.

Food is great! The sashimi though is a little bit pricey for a few slices, but the overall experience is good, I give it 4 stars for food, maybe 3 1/2 for the place, and 4 for the service. #littletokyo

Their okonomiyaki never disappoints. I always have it everytime I go here.

Also tried:
* hanshin ika-yaki - flat batter fried with squid - lighter version of okonomiyaki for me
* saute chicken wings - surprisingly good and cheap but "nakakabitin"
* ebi tempura - not so satisfied with this. I've had better.

Recommendation: Okonomiyaki must be tried with Hana's takoyaki!

Kagura has been on my to-go list for the longest time because of their okonomiyaki. After visiting them today, I could say that my expectations about this popular Japanese comfort food were more than met. I and my boyfriend dined here on a Sunday night at 6 PM, and we were the first customers. There were lots of Japanese expats there too, which we took as a very good sign over the quality and authenticity of the food.

FOOD: ★★★★★ (5.0)
We ordered the Okonomi-special (Php 440) because of the ingredients that went into it. Cooked and served in 15-20 minutes, this famous savory pancake was served still smoking hot (which was a good thing), and hit all the right spots. Everything was cooked just right, and the taste was just...wow. My partner went so far as to remark that theirs was way better than Dohtonbori's okonomiyaki when it comes to taste and satisfaction. If you're wondering how big it was, imagine a giant takoyaki flattened to more than 1/2 inch thick, to a size that's slightly larger (if not the same) as Pizza Hut's personal pan pizzas. So yeah, if you have a small appetite, better bring someone with you as their okonomiyaki's good for two.

For drinks, we ordered Coke (Php 60) and a glass of umeshu (Japanese plum wine - Php 180). The latter tasted similar to white wine and served with ice, which I liked. The 12.5% alcoholic content may not be good for those with low tolerance though, so be warned. One glass was enough for me to feel that buzz. Good thing my partner was there to look after me. Ahaha.

PLACE: ★★★✩✩ (3.5)
Cozy but small, with Hanshin Tigers paraphernalia decorating the interiors. There's a counter with 10 seats where you can watch the chefs cook your order. There are three tables where you can sit on floor pillows, which can accomodate approx. 4 people each. They get filled up quickly though; I highly recommend coming here early with your group if you want to sit there. Otherwise, you can also dine outside al fresco.

SERVICE: ★★★✩✩ (3.5)
Staff were attentive and quick, although not very cheerful. They also chose where you get to sit, so if you're dining alone (or as a couple, like we did), you'll sit by the counter. We witnessed this also when a Chinese/Korean couple came in and requested to sit by the tatami tables; the staff told them they couldn't and redirected them to the counter.

Overall, it was an enjoyable experience. Aside from the 12% VAT they don't have service charge, so try giving them tips if you're satisfied with their service. We sure were. :)

We'll definitely come back here again to try the modern-yaki...this time as a group. 😋

What I liked:
● The okonomiyaki
● The price - reasonable enough. No service charge, too 😀

What I didn't like:
● The fact you couldn't sit at the tatami tables unless you're with a big group.
● The slightly less cheerful service.
