Toyo from beginning to end was lovely. Steve our waiter was fantastic, extremely knowledgable about every single element of the dish and he was a delight! The food was beautifully presented and each course had a unique Filipino touch to it which made this place something special for us. The decor is simple but effective and the sharing tables are a great idea - can't fault it! If you're in Manila, stop by.
My new favorite place.... gave my palate the much needed break from all the traditional food I've been eating this Christmas season....
Simple food turned into fun, exquisite gourmet... awesome food experience better than the Michelin restaurants I've been to.

i've been to Toyo twice already and they never fail to leave me with a perfect and memorable dining experience. the service is flawless and the dishes are all so remarkable. I literally find myself craving for their silog and uni+kalabasa soup at random times of the day. the drinks are also worth trying! its also important to note how well-mannered and hospitable the staff is. i love everything about this place! 10/10 would go back !!
I've only been to Toyo twice but everything about the place always seems... perfect? Never thought I'd use the word to describe a restaurant but when everything is done flawlessly, I guess that's just the right word for it. Great food, very friendly staff, great space. <3 There's so much more to be said about Toyo! Will definitely go back. <3
Outstanding. The food, atmosphere and attention to detail was amazing. This restaurant deserves a Michelin star, without doubt.
Toyo's food has soul! Tradition meets modern, authenticity meets yummy! I really loved it and will be back!
This really discovers Philippine Soul. I highly recommend to experience the Toyo.
For me, the best part of any meal is dessert...and TOYO surely did not disappoint ❤️👍🏻🐷
An amazing culinary experience! Filipino flavours presented in a modern way. Every dish had an element of surprise with explosion of taste and textures! A great way of introducing Filipino cuisine!
Excellent service the staff is knowledgeable about the dish that they are serving and the food taste really great two thumbs up for this resto will be going back soon
We were so pleased to have found Toyo. The food is fabulous. Great service too. It was a real highlight of our visit to Manila.
I've been here a few times and it has become my go to place to take out of town friends.
Amazingly prepared Filipino nouveau food and I love the explanations of each course when it arrives. It is an affordable chef tasting menu and it doesn't disappoint ever. I always leave the restaurant fully satisfied and almost always, ate too much.
Definitely one of my favorite restaurant in Manila.
Toyo Eatery's tasting menu is definitely worth every single penny! A lot of interesting dishes too! Such as the "bahay kubo" salad which literally has all the vegetables mentioned in the popular folk song in one dish [the server was cool enough to sing us the song which made it more experiential btw]. Ambiance is 5/5. Overall, it was a very good dining experience.
6 out of 5 stars! No words to describe such a great dining experience. Food was excellent and out of this world. Service was also excellent in where they describe every dish that was served. Ambience was also excellent in where everything just worked perfectly together.
There is a reason why this place is in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurant! I tried the tasting menu and it was phenomenal for the Metro Manila scene. It’s very hard to book a table here so consider booking in advance! And the cocktails in their bar are seriously our go this world. I would even go here very day just for the drinks! Lol
Toyo Eatery is not the usual fine dining experience. It has a more laid-back vibe which makes customers feel relaxed and at ease. The dishes are based on Filipino cuisine. Each dish has a different story and the flavors are not only ‘improved’ Filipino flavors, the combination of ingredients bring out a delightful surprise to the palate. The staff were accommodating, friendly and funny. Toyo Eatery also has a bar which serves cocktails based on Philippine ingredients and flavors.
We were interested in trying out their tasting menu but as soon as we knew of how much it would cost, we backed out. However, as soon as the news broke out that Toyo Eatery is the only Philippine restaurant part of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2019, we knew we had to get a table reserved!
Divided into 8 sections, the tasting menu consisted of: Snacks, Mga Kilaw, Soup, Pampalamig, Buro, Banana "Catsup", Silog, and Desserts. At the top of my head, the memorables would have to be:
Rellenong Pusit - As it is, rellenong pusit is already one of my favorite dishes and for them to elevate it into a whole other level is beyond me.
Chicken in Ginger - It's like tinola but on steroids!
Bahay Kubo - All the vegetables in the song, Bahay Kubo, from singkamas down to linga!
Silogs - Even without the mains, the sinangag and itlog was delicious on their own.
Toyo Eatery, in its entirety (from the ambience, to the intricacies of the dish, to the knowledge and service of the staff), definitely deserves all the attention and accolades its getting. It should have already gotten your attention, too. 😉
The set menu may already be quite a handful for some people but if you’re up for a complete gastronomic experience, you could try their tasting menu.
Kevin, our waiter was warm and accommodating. He did a great job explaining what the three-course meal consisted of.
The appetizers were a delight, especially the tomato meringue. They use sourdough for the bread and when paired with their chicken liver spread and popcorn—you thought it would never work but it did!
For the main course I chose the bangus loin while Arianne opted for the three-cut pork bbq. The fish was unremarkable but the barbecue was a different beast; all the flavors were locked in, with a very distinct smoky end note. Every dish was on point in terms of flavor and texture combination, also presentation.
All in all, you get what you pay for. I must say, Toyo Eatery well deserves its distinction to be among Asia’s top 50 best restaurants.
I was invited by a friend of mine to try this place. It took a very long time before i finally tried it because of the price. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly by the staff even though we were a bit late. Surprisingly enough, it wasn't that packed considering it was a friday night. The staffs were really knowledgeable about the dishes, the food was perfect— honestly, they gave the usual filipino ingredients a different light. It was my first time to try a few ingredients which were mindblowing. I never knew filipino dishes could taste this good. I even ended up liking a few dishes and ingredients which i normally don't eat. I definitely would go back, i'd love to try the other dishes they offer. The cocktail was amazing!
we were immediately greeted by a friendly waiter who explained with great knowledge everything in the menu. we had a reservation for 6pm so that maybe answers the lack of people when we arrived. (since i’m a beer person) their selection of craft beer immediately caught my eye. everything was nice—intimate. most of the customers were foreigners so it was interesting seeing them ask about the local ingredients in the dish.
we had the 3 set meal and for an average person, you will leave with this light but full feeling. great experience, would definitely come back!
This really exceeded all my expectations—I’m glad we have a Filipino restaurant that elevates our cuisine. Great place to bring foreigner and balikbayan guests. Best part of the dining experience is when our server started singing “bahay kubo” when he presented the garden vegetables dish.
2018 World's 50 Best restaurants' Miele One to Watch Award for Asia winner.
Smoked fish patè with orange tobiko caviar, burnt squash with uni and orange camote, tomato meringue with ginataang langka, garden vegetables, lightly grilled mackerel with semi-ripe guava and kamias, 3-cut pork BBQ with silog, cassava cake and chocolate with fish sauce.
Love the smoked fish patè with the orange tobiko, unfortunately, the four kinds of bread that comes with it are a little bit stale. Burnt squash soup with uni is flavorful. The vegetables good concept, they made an effort to include every single vegetable in the bahay-kubo song. Mackerel was really good too, the guava and kamias sauce was okay-ish. The pork BBQ super love, very tender and flavorful, except they have undercooked one piece of pork, so that's a bummer. Silog was okay, nothing special. The dessert was okay, cassava cake good flavor, but the crust was a little burnt. Overall, i applaud this restaurant for uplifting Filipino cuisine, using local produce and supporting local farmers. Kudos to chef Jordy Navarra and his team.
Me and my boyfriend celebrated our 9th anniversary here and I honestly couldn't have picked a better place. 🤗🤗 The restaurant is nice and cozy and just a tad bit dimly lit. The servers are very friendly. 🤗
The food was absolutely amazing. I really have no words for how wonderful each dish was. I think each time we took a bite we were always going "Mmmmmm..." and we were basically in gastronomical heaven. Lol. I think the best way to enjoy this restaurant is to go for their tasting menu. It's worth it and we ended up being very full. Each time they serve you a dish they always explain all the details and the hard work that goes into each dish. My boyfriend personally enjoyed the bahay kubo the most. I also love how the whole tasting menu has a beautiful harmony to it. Everything blended well together. Will definitely be back here for the best occasions. This is my favorite restaurant in Manila. 🤗
Food quality is excellent, each dish is very thought out in terms of flavor and texture. Waiters are knowledgeable but quite pretentious which is why the 4 star. Did not have a welcoming vibe.
We were lucky to be seated upstairs, because of the open kitchen the downstairs was very smoky and stuffy
Toyo eatery is a nice place for tito/titas of manila. Nice architectural interior design and a great place to really focus on food. Some may argue that this is an expensive meal since you will spend atleast 1000pesos minimum per person, but this is really more on the experience with the quality food. Food is cooked and presented just as you order and the waiter will be explaining every dish to you. Dont expect to be so full after this.
Toyo is a tasting menu restaurant with food that earns its fancy price tag. My favorite is the bahay kubo, a dish with all the veggies in the song, served with the song. It's fun, filling, super creative. The vibe is thoroughly casual, another plus. Great if you're looking for a new dining experience with friends, lovers, family. Not a place to discuss business because it can get pretty noisy. Will come back.
Toyo Eatery is my favorite restaurant in Metro Manila for so many reasons:
1.) I love Filipino Food but sometimes they all taste the same in restaurants—but it is not what it seems at Toyo Eatery. Their flavor “twists” will excite your taste buds.
2.) Their location is well-tucked in Karrivin Plaza which is away from the usual crowd. People who go to this place would usually go with the intention of pure dining only.
3.) You could immediately notice that their staff is well trained since they are attentive and detail-oriented (I told them I was allergic to seafood and they acted upon it!)
At first, I thought that they were expensive but with Toyo, size does not matter! Each bite is flavorful and fulfilling.
Highly recommend this place for birthday/celebratory dinners.
First time I went there, we tried the tasting menu and all the food were awesome. Menus are a bit pricey but they're all worth it because the food quality and taste are really great. You'll feel that every dish was created with passion. The staff are also very accommodating. Second visit, we had their cocktails and craft beer--also worth the try!
Excellent experience. Takes Filipino dining experience to a diff level. Its quite pricey but worth the experience
Staff are friendly, Location is hidden but quite intimate, Food is exceptional
🐽 Food: We ordered the Tasting Menu. Unique and flavourful dishes were served. Quality was also fresh. You’ll enjoy this if it’s your first time. Appreciated how each dish was explained to us. The turnover per dish was quite long. Took us 2hrs to finish everything. Hahahahaha
🍹 Drinks: We ordered local beer. Heard their cocktails are good.
🍴Ambiance: Ideal for romantic dates or bigger group gatherings.
👫 Service: Servers were friendly and they knew their menu well.
💸 Price: High end.
Thanks to the lovely people at The Curator recommending me this place, it surprisingly slipped through the cracks during my research for Manila dining destinations.
I got lucky to score a same day reservation and everything was just perfect. Ambiance, Decor, Service, Taste, Presentation. Quite easily the best restaurant in this metropolis.
Go there now while you can because they will make the next list of Asia’s 50 Best for sure.
In for a treat of filipino cuisine degustation with a modern upscale twist. The food by no surprise, was delish. The menu matches the warm ambiance.
We are seated at the second level of the restaurant, making it an intimate dinner. Toyo is an ideal spot for date nights and significant occasions.
Plating is served in moderation. We preferred the Ala Carte. It was an memorable dining experience I completely forgot about the traffic of QC to Makati!
If there is at least one restaurant in this country that deserves a Michelin star, it would be Toyo Eatery. Chef Jordy Navarra is really creating something special.
I rarely give 5 stars to restaurants, but Toyo Eatery is something else. I’ve heard so many good things about this place. I lowered my expectations before going, so I wouldn’t be disappointed. I was wrong. I arrived at Toyo Eatery past 10pm. Please reserve before you visit. The place can be packed! The staff informed me that the Tasting Menu is not available already, because it’ll take me 2 hours to finish. I settled for the Set Menu which included the appetizers, Burnt Kalabasa Soup, Grilled Bangus, Grilled BBQ and dessert. I was blown away by all the dishes. Loved how all the flavors mixed harmoniously. I will never look at Filipino food the same way again. Toyo Eatery has brought a whole new level to beat!
The interior design is absolutely gorgeous. And the dimly lit place sets the mood for dates, meetings or get togethers. Would 10/10 come back here.
A wonderful dining experience. Delighted to find fine-dining centered on Filipino traditions and local ingredients.
I found the ambiance cozy and elegant, though noise level was high with the concrete and wood interiors. Service was awesome as the waiters were well-versed explaining the tasting menu.
Alas the food lacked a bit more wow for me. The flavors in most dishes were subtle and nuanced in a pleasant way, but the mains —- barbecue and bangus —- tasted rather ordinary. Light-colored plates could also have perhaps aided presentation by providing better contrast given the wood table top and dim lighting.
Food was something to experience. Long wait though but understandable considering the number of people that want to try the food. Was very impressed with the service.
Toyo which means soy sauce in Tagalog. Why Toyo? Navarra sees it as a spirit condiment. People look at it as simple, its day-to-day. But there are a lot of layers and elements involved in making it. Its complex yet simple and that character truly represents what Toyo Eatery is all about. Toyo opened its doors last March 2016 to rave reviews and is located at The Alley, a compound at Karrivin Plaza along Chino Roces.
if you want something different this is a must try. the dishes were good just lacks a bit wow factor on the taste. kudos on the presentation. highly instagramable. good ambiance and good service.
📍- is great! I love how industrial it looks like. It’s cozy too
👨🏻🍳- the service was great! Like they explain everything to you and tell you how to eat it before you do.
🥘- you should try the bahay kubo. It doesn’t really loook edible but it’s so delicious. They called it bahay kubo since it has all the vegetables stated in the song. Sarap Talaga! Also I tried the jack fish (I forgot the term but it’s in the menu) it was so fresh as well like I really wanted more. My main course was the salmon.. well too much stuff for me. Too much flavor. Maybe I didn’t enjoy since I’m used to tasting fish as fish and not with all those flavors in it. The desert though was sooo good! They’ll serve you grilled cassava and truffle which was the best last course for it
💸 - we spent 3,100 for 2 people. Is it worth the money? Yes
🤔- if you like explosion of new flavors or some old flavors which are combined and makes it a new level of taste experience.. then this is the restaurant for you.
Toyo Eatery is forever on my list of date night places. They recently opened Panaderya Toyo and I mused to myself, “What the heck I haven’t even tried Toyo Eatery and now they opened a bakery?!” So yeah, decided that I MUST try this place once and for all and set a pre-Valentine’s dinner here with the boyfriend. 😂
Reservation is a must! Even after xx years of being open they’re still fully booked most nights, especially on weekends. Had our reservation at 6:30 and arrived at the place a little earlier and was immediately seated.
The place is just beautiful. It has a warm and elegant ambiance. I loved the dimmed lighting and industrial-type look, it added to the laidback vibe of the place. And man, service here is excellent. Aside from being super attentive and friendly, all the staff here know how to explain each and every dish they bring to your table with attention to detail.
Now let’s go to the most exciting part, the food! They have a 7-course tasting menu for 2,900php/head, a 3-course set menu for 1,000php/head and an ala carte menu. We opted for the set menu which consists with a starter, a main dish and sweets. We had the following:
Complimentary Bread — They served three kinds of bread but all I remembered was the Tocino Bread, sorry guys! 😬✌🏻 With Tinapa spread on the side. Usually complimentary bread are just meh, but this one, mygod masarap! Yun lang, masarap! 😂
Starters:
🍽 Garden Vegetables
Perhaps the most interesting salad I’ve come across. It contains all the 18 veggies from the song Bahay Kubo. Yep, all in that small mouthwatering dish.
Don’t be fooled by the soil-like-looking black thing on top, it’s just dehydrated eggplant and peanuts, mix everything together and scoop a bite. It has this creamy and nutty taste which gives off a nice contrast to the crunchiness of the veggies. I’d be a salad fan if I can have this everyday. Lel.
🍽 Kilaw - Talakitok, Lime and Basi
Raw talakitok in lime and basi sauce with edible flower petals and crunchy seaweed. It’s super good! The kilaw just melts in your mouth.
Mains:
🍽 Toyo Eatery Three-Cut Pork BBQ with Toyo Eatery Silog
This may be their signature main dish, called three-cut pork BBQ because they use kasim, pigue and liempo. The meat is just so tender, smoky and savory. Make sure to dip it in the coconut cider vinegar for maximum flavor.
It’s indeed the perfect partner for their Silog which is a superstar in itself. Made with sticky rice infused with toyo (what else?, lol), shaved tuna roe, free-range egg yolk and generous chunks of chicharon. I’m sold! Super sarap mga mamsh! The best silog I’ve ever haaad! 🤤
🍽 Grilled Belly and Loin of Bangus with Toyo Eatery Silog
Served on a bed of kangkong leaves, soft and has a buttery-texture, this bangus dish is to die for! It just made me sad that the portion was quite small. But alas, it was made for a tasting menu so there goes, matakaw lang talaga ako lahat bitin! Haha!
Sweets:
🍽 Grilled Cassava Cake and Dark Chocolates
Has a pillowy texture with a smoky taste due to the burnt part of the cassave cake. Together with the cassave cake are two dark chocolate balls with caramel sauce and patis filling on a bed of cacao nibs. Yes, you read that right! It has patis, the fish sauce we all know and love. It weirded me out when the server was explaining this bit, but when I tried it, I understood. The contrasting flavors of salty and sweet was amazing! 😋
Their food is glorious. It celebrates Filipino cuisine on a whole new level. Three words that would best describe it for me — sophisticated, original and unique. They proudly use ingredients which are locally sourced, and everything was just beautifully presented. Each and every dish was well thought of.
I’ve read mixed reviews about Toyo Eatery ever since they opened back in 2016, some weren’t too impressed, some were so impressed that they kept on coming back. Since I’m super easy to please when it comes to food, I genuinely loved everything. The food and the whole dining experience itself was amazing. I’d definitely recommend this for date night or just a casual night out with friends. Though I know some might find shelling out 2,900php for a tasting menu a bit much (I certainly do!), the 1,000php set menu is definitely worth it.
I’ll be coming back, mag-iipon muna ako para sa 2,900php tasting menu. Lol, jk! 😂 See you here? 🍷
Sophisticated. Elevated. Exciting. Delicious.
A play on familiar flavors combined with modern technique. It was a delightful experience for the senses. I ordered the pork bbq as my main dish. I loved it. Thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience, not to mention the mini-concert from one of the servers when the bahay kubo dish was served. Must try!
Toyo created a new dining experience for us! Nothing less than a perfect 5 for this restaurant. Love just how creative the people behind the food are!
Be sure to try their tocino bread, bahay kubo or garden vegetables, oysters, silog, grilled mackerel and lugaw!
I love the place!! The cozy interiors and warm ambiance.:) this restaurant is truly a gem-find. The food quality and preparation makes you proud as a filipino because it shows you that filipino cuisine can best most sophisticated global cuisines. The staff is friendly and would describe to you in detail the dishes that your eating.:) the food.... a mixture of unique flavors that would explode in your mouth and make your brain wonder how something so seemingly simple, can produce such flavors. Great experience!:)
My favorites: bbq, bahay kubo salad, wagyu steak, the dessert in a glass (sorry can't recall name.:)
Just spent our anniversary in Toyo eatery and it sure did not disappoint! The food was absolutely fantastic and very unique! Hats off the chef Jordy Navarra and his wonderful team for coming up with such creative and delicious dishes. Love the food; love the people. Good job guys!🙂🙂 we'll definitely be back😁😁
Been hearing great reviews on this place, it's Located at The Alley, a new compound at Karrivin Plaza along Chino Roces, near white space. Find it on Waze. This place puts a twist of Filipino food, Opened by Chef Jordy Navarra the guy behind Blacksheep. You can order ala Carte or they have two type of offerings :
its seven-course tasting menu (P2,900 per person) - Tomato Meringue + Talakitok, Basi and Lime + Burnt Kalabaza with Sea Urchin and Orange Kamote + Garden Vegetables + Mayura Onglet and Toyo Eatery Silog + Coconut, Lychee, Rose + Sweets
or or its three-course set menu (P1,000 per person). :Garden Vegetables or Lightly Battered Espada with Semi-Ripe Guava and Kamias Broth or Burnt Kalabaza Soup with Sea Urchin and Orange Kamote + Toyo Eatery Three-Cut Pork BBQ with Toyo Eatery Silog or Grilled Belly and Loin of Bangus with Toyo Eatery Silog + Sweets
We were four so we all decided to get the Set Menu. To start of they served us bread. The tocino bread and the Sour bread with their special butter were really yummy. To Start off was the Tomato Meringue which melted in your mouth. Then the Burnt kalabasa was delicious, a twist to the usual pumpkin soup and the sea urchin was interesting. And we got to try the Grilled loin and belly of bangus with sticky rice that came with an egg which you mix, there was also fish skin and dried tuna roe for the umami flavor. We also got the Three-Cut Pork BBQ, was had a coconut cider vinegar. Lastly we tried grilled mackarel, my least favorite but my friends liked it. For dessert, we had cassava cake & pralines made of caramel and chocolate with patis.
As for the Ambience, I loved it, lovely accents of Wood and Steel. The Acacia Tables were beautiful. The open kitchen is at the end of the room and the bar by the door is beautiful. This place would also be perfect for private parties as well, they have a private room at the second floor
I really didn't know what to expect from this eatery so there is no pre judgement as i was open to experience its cuisine. To my surprise the seemingly familiar dishes like bangus belly, pork bbq or laing would come into a new life form and eaten from a different light. Flavors are intense but not overpowering . It was a very pleasant surprise.
Very cool restaurant with great food and great atmosphere. I went with a large group and we were in the upstairs room. Awesome experience! The drinks were great, every dish on the tasting menu was incredible, and the service was exceptional. Highly recommend checking this place out!

Eating at Toyo is an experience. Not necessarily a food experience but maybe a taste experience. The thinking, philosophy and techniques involved in crafting the dishes were amazing...but it's just too damned expensive for the small portions served. My advice? Go here if you want to impress a date, are burning through an inheritance or if you eat like a bird.
New Favorite Restaurant Alert!!! In the span of two days last week, I heard about Toyo Eatery 3 times from friends. Taking that as my sign to go, I made a reservation pronto. Boy I was not disappointed! Toyo is a step in the right direction for the Manila restaurant scene.
Hidden away in Karrivin Plaza, Toyo is the definition of cool. With its minimalist, concrete and wood design, it has an laid back inviting industrial vibe. You will be greeted warmly by one of their waitstaff when you arrive which is a preview of the attentiveness and friendliness they deliver.
The menu is structured into either a tasting menu or alacarte or both, if you so choose. There is a tasting menu for P2900 which will be their highlights or P1,000 for 3 courses. All courses can also be ala-carte. Keep in mind portion size is the same.
We ordered:
- Garden Vegetables - order this! All the bahay kubo vegetables in one salad!! Good for 1, don't share hehe.
- Oysters - just okay.
- Steak (the more expensive one) - worth it
- 2 set menus: (P1000) which included the
Starter: Uni and Squash soup - yum if you like uni, normal if you don't
Main: BBQ - this is a must!!! + Toyo Rice - rich and savory fried rice with chicharon. Perfect with the BbQ. Good on its own too.
Sweets - that casava cake is to die for. That chocolate truffle too, oh man.
Party of 3. Total bill came to P6,000. No alcohol. We were super full.
I love this place. After we left I made reservations again for a different night. That's how good it is. I can have their food again and again. I understand that some may dine once and wait for the menu to change. That's alright too. But i think we can all expect that whatever Toyo puts out will only get better and better.
