Malala na 'ung cravings ko for meat. I think I'm becoming Drew B in Santa Clarita DietšŸ˜‚

Baby Back Ribs & Pulled Pork. Look at those ribs - firm but tender; juicy and tasty; sauce just right not dripping, that's the way I like it.

Sides: Mac & Cheese, coleslaw, potato salad, and yes - that's chicken skin right there.

Went home full, dizzy, but happyšŸ˜

Itā€™s been a while since the last time Iā€™m here on Zomato. Well, thereā€™s one place that deserves more recognition in the public so thatā€™s why Iā€™m sharing this marvelous Texas-style barbecue place, The Smokeyard.

Metro Manila has been known as an emerging foodie scene. The main flaw however, is the lack of representation of certain cuisines. One of them is surprisingly authentic American barbecue, particularly Texas-style.

I absolutely love the Poblacion area of Makati (Jupiter, Makati Avenue) when it comes to authentic, homey eats since thereā€™s something for everyone (variety of cuisines and its prices) with Chinese, Korean and Hispanic places predominate. But humbly tucked somewhere along Kalayaan Avenue is the no-fuss place called The Smokeyard.

From the outside, the place simply looks like another gastropub but mind you, the immediate scent of smoked meats will certainly entice you. No brainer.

The place is generally offers meat-market style barbecued goodies (where meat is weighed by the grams) with a very simplistic menu of only meats, sides, sandwiches and drinks. This is patterned very closely to the ones in America. Desserts too, are nonexistent since barbecue meals are soo good that will leave you stuffed.

I ordered a combination of three meats and three sides (a la carte). Thatā€™s a ton of food! But Iā€™m itching for years to get some authentic smoked barbecue so pardon me on this one. Hereā€™s what Iā€™ve ordered:

Beef Brisket - Hands down. Youā€™ll never see brisket the same way again. If you associate brisket to be tough and chewy, this will definitely blow your mind. The meat is smoked so tender that you can cut it with a spoon. The marbling of meat and fat is perfect and the smokiness is present yet not too salty and overwhelming.

Beef Ribs - Toothy meat that will leave Fred Flintstone satisfied. Same level of smokiness as the brisket but the layering of flavors is impressive.

Baby Back Ribs - Many Pinoys associate pork ribsā€™ level of goodness by being fall-off-the-bone and DOUSED with sticky sauce. It should not. Why? Because if the meat falls off the bone then it means that itsā€™s already soggy enough to fall off which is not the case of The Smokeyardā€™s. The ribs here are firm on the bone yet tender enough due to the meatā€™s perfect, flawless leanness. These are some of the most appealing pork ribs Iā€™ve ever had. Only a hint of sauce smothered will work for me on this one. Twi thumbs up!

Dirty Rice - The sides take a backseat to the meats but are pretty darn impressive as well. The Smokeyardā€™s rendition of dirty rice hits the mark. Garlic fried rice infused with generous amounts of beef brisket bits wilm leave you craving for more.

Potato Salad - Your standard potato salad. I love the balance of the dressing and potatoes. Surprisingly light!

Mac and Four Cheese - This hot side is a bit heavy with all the cheeses infused on the elbow macaroni. Cheesy gooey goodness.

Sauces - The meats are already so flavorful that youā€™ll agree no sauce is needed. But there are theee variants available. I like the Fire BBQ sauce the most due to enough heat that blends well on my meats.

My total bill came up around 500 pesos (around USD 10) even with a discount so itā€™s not cheap at all. But the authenticity here is real that I will return here for my Texan barbecue fix.

I have always wanted to try American style low-and-slow BBQ, and not where it's smoke for a short bit and then thrown on the grill. I do see the popularity of the low-and-slow BBQ increasing over the years, as restos pop up here and there. Thankfully, there was one really good place near the hotel where I was staying at (Actually writing this as I am now lying down in the my hotel bed).

The Smokeyard serves different kinds of smoked meats, but I went straight to the top of choice--Beef Brisket.

It was life-changing! I don't know how it could've been chewy and melt-in-your-mouth at the same time, but it was. The fat was delectible, the beef, smoked to the max, with nothing but simple spices and its natural flavor. Never tasted beef in such a way. And the 3 BBQ sauces that were there (Original, Mustard Vinegar, and Fire) were very flavorful as well. I loved the mixing up the Mustard Vinegar and Fire ones together. Really, really good with the brisket!

Since I ordered the Solo platter of Beef Brisket (brisket and 1 side), I got the Dirty Rice as my side. I think it's basically rice tossed in some of the dripping and fats of the smoked meat and a bit of BBQ sauce--I maybe wrong. Anyways, it was a little dry, but still good.

An additional side that I ordered were French Fries. And there are a must to try! It's not just tossed around with some salt and pepper, but some tiny green herb bits as well. Green onion or parsley? Again, I maybe wrong. Whatever the case, it was truly drool amazing. Loved the super crispy and almost burt skinny bits.

Food: 5.0 - Really good! As the saying goes, everything in Texas is big. Well that includes the flavor in Texas style slow-and-low BBQ.

Price: 4.5 - Pricey--pricier than the portions I expected. But then, this style of vooking is labor intensive, so it makes sense.

Service: 5.0 - Friendly staff! If I am not mistaken, the owner himself was the one that weigh and cut my brisket.

Ambience: 5.0 - Very laid back kind of place.

I am surely coming back to try the other stuff!!! Maybe tomorrow? LOL!

--------------------

Edited: November 22, 2018 -- Tomorrow!

Oh yes, I went back there again. This 2nd time around, I arrived within their lunch hours. I was able to order their Lunch Special #6, which consisted of Beef Ribs, Pulled Pork, Chicken Wings, Rice (I opted to upgrade to the Dirty Rice), Buttered Veggies and a glass of their Freshly Brewed Iced Tea.

All the meats that I had were just so fabulous. Still, my top pick would be the Beef Brisket. I wanted to try more of the BBQ-d meats, and this lunch combo was the best option.

Ribs were suck-off the bone wonderful. Pulled Pork was spectacular as I drowned it in the sauce, and the Chicken Wings were yummy! Don't ask me what my fave was amongst all 3 as it was all good. LOL! šŸ˜€šŸ‘

Of course, I ordered an extra side of French Fries as they were really fantabulous, and still are. Truth be told, I was close enough to licking everything clean, including the wax paper. ROFL! šŸ˜€šŸ˜šŸ˜‚

Went here with my friends and got lucky that they had this buy 1 take one promo; t'was the first time (ever) that I've tried their Irish beer which was sooo good, we loved the ambiance here and despite the noise it wasn't so overbearing that we had to shout at each other, and oh did I mention that they had sumo wrestling tournaments on TV? It was a really interesting place that I'll definitely check out again.

We hungry after cardio swimming and thinking where we will have our lunch. Luckily we have found this restaurant that offers a variety of smoke grilled meat. I had no idea what to order cause all the choices seem yummy. So the staff suggested their best seller which was the beefbrisket and never i have disappointed of having this for my lunch for a weekend off. It was perfect match for a plain rice(i even order for extra rice) and a bottle of san mig light. I was perfect combination. Excellent smoked meats...US style in Manila. Brisket, sausage, ribs, and chicken. No need for sauce when you can saver that good ole hickory oak flavor. I will definitely return to this joint next time I am in the area. Every bit worth the price and the best brisket I've ever had this far from Mississippi.

This is one of those truly hidden gems in poblacion, I was truly amazed by the flavors and enjoyed every single bite. We then talk to the owner and cook (same person) who takes every cut of meat and elevates it to the top level. There only one thing that prevents me to give 5 stars and itā€™s the portions, believe me theyā€™re tiny so you have to order at least 2-3 to satisfy your hunger. There are some combos but the meat selection is very limited, otherwise would have given without a doubt 5 stars. But occasionally itā€™s totally worthy to pay the price. You cannot forget the smokiness from the meat, a truly heavenly experience.

The Smokeyard in Poblacion, Makati is a haven for smoked meat lovers. With Prices ranging from Php 55 to Php 130+ per 50g, you can literally try everything while still spending and ordering within your means. Their plated meals, however, were a bit expensive in my opinion. The interiors of the place also speaks of an authentic American BBQ house itself with just enough room to accommodate foreign people as well as locals who are flocking the place. The beef brisket was as tender as it can be while the pork belly was equally flavorful. Their sides were also great both in taste and serving sizes. Nothing special with their Wings but still pretty decent in my opinion. Also, their staff were helpful and informative but needs to be more lively, I guess. Nonetheless, The Smokeyard is definitely worth a second visit.

šŸ’•Date for Two: Solo Plate #1 ā€“ Pulled Pork, Whole Chicken Wings, Dirty Rice Pork Spareribs (100g)
šŸ’ŒTotal: P525

Overall: All meats are really tasty. Serving size is a bit off since they are selling per 100g. Ambiance is good but tend to go really crowded on Friday night and too noisy outside because of the people coming in and out of the hyped nearby restos. Staff are really friendly and will recommend orders right away, especially if you are unable to choose from their vast choices of meats.

Value for money: A bit expensive for the serving but worth trying for the taste. Best to get the solo plates for a much cheaper set.

I was actually looking for holy smokes but ended up here instead. The ambiance and lighting was good but certainly not a place you can relax and stay long. The food was also average, the one thing that I loved is the homemade chips they have, didn't order it but I was given a few to try. With so many other places that are offering the same concept and food, I may not come back.

Interiors are also a sight to see with industrial elements, steel piped chairs and lights and an ambiance that will prepare you for a superb meal! Oh and if you guys are a basketball fan, then you're going to enjoy this place more with wide screens that show NBA plays..

LEMONADE (P160-P180)

One of the best Lemonades I've tasted! They put a small part of the lemon to the drink so it will not just taste sour but has an extra "umph" to it. It is not extremely sour but has the PERFECT taste for a lemonade.

SWEET TEA (P60-P80)

Just like the name sweet tea, the exact taste. It's a tad sweet for me, but hey we all have different taste buds! It's still a good drink :)

PULLED PORK (50G P70) CHICKEN WINGS (50G P60) SPARERIBS (50G P85) BRISKET (50G P135)

On to the smoked meat! You can choose in solo plates or pick your meat, so you can have a taste of everything. They have three solo plates at the moment with specific meats and sides you can choose, or go crazy and try everything haha.

Smoked meat is a bit different from Inihaw, since it's slow cooking to get all the spices to meat. All the meats we got are delicious! It's like we were transported to America with every bite! The Spareribs are a bit different than the ones we have here, the meat does not easily fall off the bone. The goal is when we take a bite, it will have a bite mark to it, the proper way of smoking as per the teaching Troy knows.

The brisket is the first one you have to eat, since it easily dries up (that really happens). I love the taste, however ours got dry because we took photos of everything first before eating haha.

TRIVIA: They cook the brisket for 14 hours!Ā

DIRTY RICE (6oz P50, 8oz P70)

One of the best sides! We all love to partner rice with everything haha!

SMOKED BEANS (6oz P60, 8oz p80)

If you really want to have the whole package of an authentic American taste, then Smoked Beans should be your side dish. I swear it was like I was transported to America! There's a bit of spice to it which is perfect.

MAC + 4 CHEESES (6oz P140, 8oz P160)

As a cheese lover, you should not miss this. It tastes soooo good! It can stand alone too even without the meat.

CORNBREAD (8oz P70)

The first time I tried pairing meat with bread. It's perfect with the Brisktet! The corn bread is not cooked in the traditional way since it's really far from Filipino taste. So to get us like this side, they made it according to what will pass with our palate.

BANANA PUDDING (P150)

When you're done with all the meat fest, there's always room for dessert. The banana pudding is not too sweet but just the perfect taste and size.

Smokeyard is definitely worth the visit! They do of course offer alcoholic drinks, perfectly paired with smoked meats.

OVERALL:

Food - It's still a new taste we can consider. If ever you order the brisket, eat it right away so it will not dry up.

Price - Slightly pricey but very reasonable, due to imported ingredients and how long they put effort in cooking it. It's nice to treat yourself every once in a while.

Serving - The serving goes with the pricing. I can't say it's generous or a bit small. It was ok for me.

Parking - They have a parking space for their customers, not in front of the restaurant but walking distance.

Ambiance - It was great! I love the interiors, it was only a tad dark. Maybe if they add more lights then it's perfect.

Smoekyard was a total surprise. Never expected how good a meat can be cooked. This popular dining place in Poblacion serves all kinds of low and slow cooked meat, which are all delightful and tasteful. The place was cozy enough to enjoy all food being served. Pork Belly is amazing. The fat melts in your mouth kind of amazing. Beef are flavorful. Chicken wings so-so. The mac and cheese is worth the additional P70.00. The serving is small but the flavor is not the usual cheddar-ish kind. The corn bread is so-so - Kenny Roger's still wins over this one. Parking is quite limited though.

I've eaten at the Smokeyard twice already, and both times it did not disappoint. The Beef Brisket was delicious, but you have to eat it right away. The beans were hearty and reminded me of comfortable rainy nights (for some reason). It's best to come here for food if the place is not full, you'll get better service that way -- although, it's pretty much self-service. Also, make sure you read the menu on Zomato before going so you can go to the counter prepared and not hold up the line (if there's any).

Great food and great ambience! My officemates and I went to Smokeyard to watch a local basketball game. They have a huge LED TV (about 75") at the alfresco area and all channels are HD!
We noticed that everything on the menu, except for the sides, can be ordered per 100g. Everything smelled and looked good so we ordered almost everything. Their pulled pork, beef brisket pork spare ribs and chicken wings + the 3 homemade sauces were super yummy! I'm not really a big fan of mac&cheese but Smokeyard's version was really amazing!!! I lived in the States before moving back to Manila and sometimes I find myself longing for the real American comfort food. Ā The Smokeyard delivers this to me and more. Ā I like the no-frills, casual atmosphere of the place and the hands-on customer service of the restaurant's owners. Ā The beef brisket is my favorite (I have had both just the platter and the sandwich), as well as the pulled pork. Ā I also like this place because they clearly did not create their side dishes as an afterthought. Ā If you could choose as few then go for the Mac and Cheese and the coleslaw.

My wife and I were planning to have dinner in Powerplant Mall but traffic and long queues to the parking entrance almost ruined our evening. Good thing I remembered my friends' recommendation about a new establishment that serves good meat and beer near the Rockwell area.

After driving less than 5 minutes more, we arrived at the Smokeyard. The ambience was very homey, just like barbecuing in your own backyard. I love the large LED screens showing live football matches (Visca el Barca!!).

The owner was a friendly fellow who helped us by describing everything that was on the menu. We ordered the solo plates that had pulled pork, chicken wings, beans and mac & cheese as siders. The pork and chicken were divine and I enjoyed trying them with the different sauces. The beans and macaroni were perfect complements to the mouth-watering meats.

After cleaning up our plates, we decided to order more and try the pork belly, baby back ribs, beef brisket, and the rib fingers. We were not disappointed and devoured everything. My personal favourites were the pork belly, rib fingers, and chicken wings!

All in all, a very satisfying experience. Great food, chilled beer, live football, and my wife, of course. What more can a man ask for???

I passed by Z Hostel one night and then saw these three new restaurants: The Smokeyard along with Bucky's and Alamat Filipino Pub & Deli. Though not on the main road, they're actually easy to find if your not familiar around Poblacion. They're located just near a Ministop at the corner of Don Pedro St. and Kalayaan Ave. They are the only brightly lit establishments on that pretty dark street.

Along with some meat-lover friends, I first went to The Smokeyard. The place is not too big nor too small, has both an air-conditioned an alfresco area. No menus, it was self-serviced and we had to order at the counter. We had Pulled Pork, Pork Belly, Baby Back Ribs, and Chicken Wings, and also some sides like Dirty Rice, Mixed Veggies, and Sweet Potato Chips. Prices of the meat varies depending on its weight. We also ordered Sweet Tea and some Indio Pale Ale. Aside from those we ordered, they also offer smoked meat sandwiches and different alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Solo plates are also available. All Ā Ć  la carte smoked meat orders come with a complementary white loaf of bread per person.

We didn't do any waiting. Our food were all ready the moment we handed the payment. I was suppose to take some pictures but, unfortunately, I didn't have anything with me to take pictures with that time so we all just chowed down. The food were all tender and tasty with or even without sauce which, by the way, comes in three varieties: Original, Fire, and Mustard Vinegar. I like the Pork Belly the most then Baby Back Ribs is second.

Overall, I can definitely say that we all had a great time at the The Smokeyard with its great food and great service. The Smokeyard is now one of my favorites in Poblacion.

One of the newest additions to the Poblacion restaurant scene, The Smokeyard promises Texan-style BBQ offerings sure to please carnivores. We had a good sampling of their meats, except for the pork belly in which I was told was excellent. The pulled pork was nice but pork is basically tasteless so their sauces are a must (Fire, Original and Mustard - the latter was the recommended match for the pork). I liked the Fire most as I like my sauces on the spicy side. Pork was very tender and lean, no complaints there. Their chicken wings, however, were just so-so. I like my wings more BBQ'ed. The highlight was their beef brisket. So tender and goes so well with either the Fire or Original sauces. I also enjoyed their smoked beans as well. On their corn bread, I recall that it matches the one I've had in the US. However, I am not basically a fan of corn bread (and maybe many Pinoys) and would rather have rice next time. Overall, a great experience on BBQ meats. Service was good and prices were fair.
