Malala na 'ung cravings ko for meat. I think I'm becoming Drew B in Santa Clarita Diet😂

Baby Back Ribs & Pulled Pork. Look at those ribs - firm but tender; juicy and tasty; sauce just right not dripping, that's the way I like it.

Sides: Mac & Cheese, coleslaw, potato salad, and yes - that's chicken skin right there.

Went home full, dizzy, but happy😍

It’s been a while since the last time I’m here on Zomato. Well, there’s one place that deserves more recognition in the public so that’s why I’m sharing this marvelous Texas-style barbecue place, The Smokeyard.

Metro Manila has been known as an emerging foodie scene. The main flaw however, is the lack of representation of certain cuisines. One of them is surprisingly authentic American barbecue, particularly Texas-style.

I absolutely love the Poblacion area of Makati (Jupiter, Makati Avenue) when it comes to authentic, homey eats since there’s something for everyone (variety of cuisines and its prices) with Chinese, Korean and Hispanic places predominate. But humbly tucked somewhere along Kalayaan Avenue is the no-fuss place called The Smokeyard.

From the outside, the place simply looks like another gastropub but mind you, the immediate scent of smoked meats will certainly entice you. No brainer.

The place is generally offers meat-market style barbecued goodies (where meat is weighed by the grams) with a very simplistic menu of only meats, sides, sandwiches and drinks. This is patterned very closely to the ones in America. Desserts too, are nonexistent since barbecue meals are soo good that will leave you stuffed.

I ordered a combination of three meats and three sides (a la carte). That’s a ton of food! But I’m itching for years to get some authentic smoked barbecue so pardon me on this one. Here’s what I’ve ordered:

Beef Brisket - Hands down. You’ll never see brisket the same way again. If you associate brisket to be tough and chewy, this will definitely blow your mind. The meat is smoked so tender that you can cut it with a spoon. The marbling of meat and fat is perfect and the smokiness is present yet not too salty and overwhelming.

Beef Ribs - Toothy meat that will leave Fred Flintstone satisfied. Same level of smokiness as the brisket but the layering of flavors is impressive.

Baby Back Ribs - Many Pinoys associate pork ribs’ level of goodness by being fall-off-the-bone and DOUSED with sticky sauce. It should not. Why? Because if the meat falls off the bone then it means that its’s already soggy enough to fall off which is not the case of The Smokeyard’s. The ribs here are firm on the bone yet tender enough due to the meat’s perfect, flawless leanness. These are some of the most appealing pork ribs I’ve ever had. Only a hint of sauce smothered will work for me on this one. Twi thumbs up!

Dirty Rice - The sides take a backseat to the meats but are pretty darn impressive as well. The Smokeyard’s rendition of dirty rice hits the mark. Garlic fried rice infused with generous amounts of beef brisket bits wilm leave you craving for more.

Potato Salad - Your standard potato salad. I love the balance of the dressing and potatoes. Surprisingly light!

Mac and Four Cheese - This hot side is a bit heavy with all the cheeses infused on the elbow macaroni. Cheesy gooey goodness.

Sauces - The meats are already so flavorful that you’ll agree no sauce is needed. But there are theee variants available. I like the Fire BBQ sauce the most due to enough heat that blends well on my meats.

My total bill came up around 500 pesos (around USD 10) even with a discount so it’s not cheap at all. But the authenticity here is real that I will return here for my Texan barbecue fix.

I have always wanted to try American style low-and-slow BBQ, and not where it's smoke for a short bit and then thrown on the grill. I do see the popularity of the low-and-slow BBQ increasing over the years, as restos pop up here and there. Thankfully, there was one really good place near the hotel where I was staying at (Actually writing this as I am now lying down in the my hotel bed).

The Smokeyard serves different kinds of smoked meats, but I went straight to the top of choice--Beef Brisket.

It was life-changing! I don't know how it could've been chewy and melt-in-your-mouth at the same time, but it was. The fat was delectible, the beef, smoked to the max, with nothing but simple spices and its natural flavor. Never tasted beef in such a way. And the 3 BBQ sauces that were there (Original, Mustard Vinegar, and Fire) were very flavorful as well. I loved the mixing up the Mustard Vinegar and Fire ones together. Really, really good with the brisket!

Since I ordered the Solo platter of Beef Brisket (brisket and 1 side), I got the Dirty Rice as my side. I think it's basically rice tossed in some of the dripping and fats of the smoked meat and a bit of BBQ sauce--I maybe wrong. Anyways, it was a little dry, but still good.

An additional side that I ordered were French Fries. And there are a must to try! It's not just tossed around with some salt and pepper, but some tiny green herb bits as well. Green onion or parsley? Again, I maybe wrong. Whatever the case, it was truly drool amazing. Loved the super crispy and almost burt skinny bits.

Food: 5.0 - Really good! As the saying goes, everything in Texas is big. Well that includes the flavor in Texas style slow-and-low BBQ.

Price: 4.5 - Pricey--pricier than the portions I expected. But then, this style of vooking is labor intensive, so it makes sense.

Service: 5.0 - Friendly staff! If I am not mistaken, the owner himself was the one that weigh and cut my brisket.

Ambience: 5.0 - Very laid back kind of place.

I am surely coming back to try the other stuff!!! Maybe tomorrow? LOL!

Oh yes, I went back there again. This 2nd time around, I arrived within their lunch hours. I was able to order their Lunch Special #6, which consisted of Beef Ribs, Pulled Pork, Chicken Wings, Rice (I opted to upgrade to the Dirty Rice), Buttered Veggies and a glass of their Freshly Brewed Iced Tea.

All the meats that I had were just so fabulous. Still, my top pick would be the Beef Brisket. I wanted to try more of the BBQ-d meats, and this lunch combo was the best option.

Ribs were suck-off the bone wonderful. Pulled Pork was spectacular as I drowned it in the sauce, and the Chicken Wings were yummy! Don't ask me what my fave was amongst all 3 as it was all good. LOL! 😀👍

Of course, I ordered an extra side of French Fries as they were really fantabulous, and still are. Truth be told, I was close enough to licking everything clean, including the wax paper. ROFL! 😀😁😂

Went here with my friends and got lucky that they had this buy 1 take one promo; t'was the first time (ever) that I've tried their Irish beer which was sooo good, we loved the ambiance here and despite the noise it wasn't so overbearing that we had to shout at each other, and oh did I mention that they had sumo wrestling tournaments on TV? It was a really interesting place that I'll definitely check out again.

We hungry after cardio swimming and thinking where we will have our lunch. Luckily we have found this restaurant that offers a variety of smoke grilled meat. I had no idea what to order cause all the choices seem yummy. So the staff suggested their best seller which was the beefbrisket and never i have disappointed of having this for my lunch for a weekend off. It was perfect match for a plain rice(i even order for extra rice) and a bottle of san mig light. I was perfect combination. Overall i was satisfied with the food and staff were very accomodating👍🏻

Excellent smoked meats...US style in Manila. Brisket, sausage, ribs, and chicken. No need for sauce when you can saver that good ole hickory oak flavor. I will definitely return to this joint next time I am in the area. Every bit worth the price and the best brisket I've ever had this far from Mississippi.

This is my go-to spot when I'm craving good meat. Their meat selection's plenty and I have tried most of them and was never disappointed. My favourite of course is their smoked bacon, but be sure to come on Friday and Saturday cos these are the only days their special bacon is served.

This is one of those truly hidden gems in poblacion, I was truly amazed by the flavors and enjoyed every single bite. We then talk to the owner and cook (same person) who takes every cut of meat and elevates it to the top level. There only one thing that prevents me to give 5 stars and it’s the portions, believe me they’re tiny so you have to order at least 2-3 to satisfy your hunger. There are some combos but the meat selection is very limited, otherwise would have given without a doubt 5 stars. But occasionally it’s totally worthy to pay the price. You cannot forget the smokiness from the meat, a truly heavenly experience.

One of the participating restaurant of our food crawl last June 27, 2018, supported by Globe myBusiness and Let's Eat Pare. For team UBEst, the task was 2 members of the team need to order 1 plate of baby back ribs, choose your desired sauce and take a bite.

The ribs are really tasty and perfect paired with spicy sauce. #IAMHUNGRY :(
