This is the best ramen place in my opinion.
Their lunch set meals are even better. A little pricey but totally worth it.
I frequent here and there was never an instance that I regretted a visit.
Mendokoro fans should try eating here because Ron Ramen is life changing.

This place is always a treat. They are always consistent with how they prepare their ramen. I always get the miso based ramen with a side of gyoza and chahan! Hits the spot every single time!

"You'll never miss with Miso Ramen in a big bowl!"

It's a perfect treat for yourself specially when you're tired from work or if you'll just need to have a perfect dinner with your colleagues. This silky-fowl-miso ramen is the best and good for sharing!

You would not give this place a second glance from the outside if you have not discovered that Ron Ramen’s Tantanmen is underrated BUT it is by far the best in town!

Take note: they only serve Tantanmen and Curry Tantanmen at dinner time. Its broth is rich in flavor and the noodles are cooked perfectly. Service is efficient. If you are so in the mood for food, a bowl of ramen would suffice. But if you’re a snacky person like me, you can share a bowl with a friend and order extra food. Their gyoza and spicy chicken karaage is okay. If you visit this place, visit it at dinner time and please get yourself a Tantanmen! 😆😉

Best TanTanMen in the city! I find it even better than Mendokoro Ramenba’s TanTanMen! The broth is just too good & flavorful although I’m not sold on the noodles they used and for that it’s a 4/5 rating for me!

It's not mendokoro where ramen and the entire vibe is very posh and special. It's what my notion of ramen is, actually, it's too simple. But it's so good!! I recommend the miso with 4 pork slices add spice and corn. 🥰

Still the best and most authentic ramen in Manila! This place has been opened before all the ramen shops started sprinting like mushrooms everywhere. The tantanmien is worth the wait. I’d still go there for ramen. Nothing beats this place for that!

Best ramen place in Manila, straightforward and consistent. Silky fowl broth makes for a lighter alternative to the usual pork broths. Frequented by Japanese patrons too, so you know it's legit good.

The best Shoyu ramen I have had so far. The soya based broth with Silky Fowl is cooked to perfection and all the flavours gives it an awesome taste. I had the Ukokkei shoyu koumi and fully impressed with the taste. The tender port, medium soft noodles and soft boiled eggs gives the dish a 5 *.

I love their Cheese Tantanmen and Curry Tantanmen! I even tried adding cheese on my curry ramen and it was also good! Both broth were satisfyingly tasty.

Their gyoza was also okay. I just hope that they have their own restroom since the restaurant is quite spacious enough.

Haven't eaten here for many years but when I came back few days ago, it was still as good as I remembered. They serve the best tantanmen ramen in town! The broth has a good balance of spiciness and nutty sweetness.

I also got to try the abura noodles but unfortunately, I'm not impressed with it. It tasted like premium instant noodles with lots of toppings. I also think it was a bit pricey for what it is.

As someone who eats an unhealthy amount of ramen every month, not gonna lie, I think they all taste the same regardless of how long it took you to line up for it. Ramen Ron’s definitely different though.

I had the Miso Chashu and its broth didn’t feel as fatty and ~milky~rich like Mendokoro/Ippudo/Ramen Nagi et al. but not in a bad way. It had a pleasant bitter undertone that may or may not have something to do with their use of silky fowl (no idea what that is but it brings a mental image of a chicken in fancy robes). My friend had the Cheese Tantanmen (5/5), and we shared the Yaki Gyoza (3/5), and a cup of plain rice to eat with the ramen because I saw a lot of Japanese people do it in Japan and I’m sure they know what they’re doing.

TY to Erwann Heussaff’s “Best Ramen in Metro Manila” for leading us here. Gotta pay tribute to the OG ramen place in Manila.

One of the best ramen place i've been. Im a regular here and its just really good, from the really rich flavor of the broth/soup and their noodles, which i like best relative to other places.

Must eat ramens are: Tantanmen (spicy), Miso Butter Corn & Shoyu Kuomi.

Note that before you order any Miso ramen or Tantanmen, ask the waitress if the Miso stock they serve for the night is original (imported) one. If not, the alternative tastes quite different and you might as well just get some Shoyu based ramen.

This place is conveniently located near Nihon so it is possible to try the 2 of the best Japanese Restaurants in the City within the same itenerary. The aroma of the ramen is enough to make anyone drool. The umami flavor does not disappoint too. Consider yourself lucky if you chance upon their head chef making the noodles from scratch.

Personally dying to try the classic Shoyu Ramen soon.

P.S. Forget about ordering the Ebi Tempura. Order one at Nihon instead. Insofar as this place is concerned, just order the Ramen.

Tried their miso ramen chashu (according to them is their bestseller) and shoyu ramen chashu. It was delicious. They have this silky fowl ingredient which is unique to the taste. I just didn't like the mongo sprout on the ramen because i don't like mongo sprouts. But overall the rames were very good.
Went here at dinnertime. Ambiance is neutral, not cold, kinda hot.

Been here last sunday around 5:30 PM with my boyfie ❤
By that time, the restaurant is not crowded yet. And as we ate, more and more customer come.
No wonder, their food are superb nice ❤

We had a bowl of Shio Chasu Ukkokei, Half Chahan and Half Beef Curry.
All of them taste superb ❤ especially their ramen, it's so so nice. Even if the serving is quite big, we manage to finished all also. And the Chahan with Chasu, get me in love as well.

Last but not least, you should go and try them!

I’ve been eating here for around a decade now and this is the restaurant that really made me fall in love with ramen. As much as there is an abundance of great ramen restaurants in Manila, there’s just something about Ukokkei’s broth I feel other ramen chains cannot replicate. Their broth has this soulfulness and depth of flavor that is absolutely encaptivating and immediately transports me back to Japan. All the flavors are great but I especially love the Miso butter corn and their very famous tantanmen that is my ultimate guilty pleasure.

My Tita N. have been eating here for time immemorial. Really.

And it's now that I'm writing about it. No reason. There is nothing to say about Ukkokei except that they serve wicked ramen. The wickedest. We have eaten ramen prepared by other restaurants but we have always come back  here. We always the order the same food: spicy ramen for Tita N. and the (boring) non-spicy for me plus Yaki Gyoza and Kaarage. And we never get tried of getting the same things.

What else do you say about perfection? Nothing really (that's why, I don't really see point of reviewing except, probably, to say... you're the best, Ukkokei). And with that, I finish this write up.

Its been raining for the past few weeks. And last weekend, Its still raining and I have one request for dinner: Ramen please😀 🍜

We’ve been trying to dine at Ukkokei for couple of times but we often failed since there’s no parking. At last! We got to park and dine. Its meant to be😀
Upon entering, I notice the place is quite old compared to the ramen resto that I’ve been into. I can tell that Ukkokei is one of the pioneer ramen places in Makati and that excites me!

This place got 3 types of Ramen: Shoyu (soy sauce based), Shio (Salt based) or Miso. Your choice, hot or cold, they got it.

I tried their Tantanmen. Perfect for the weather.. its spicy 🌶 reddish sauce with ground pork, onion leeks. Warning, it is served extra hot❌ broth is tasty and rich. I am just not into the noodles that they served compared to other commercialized ramen and i also prefer the sliced meat than ground pork. All in all, taste is good! And cravings satisfied.

My companion got his Shoyu Ramen or the soy sauce based. This is highly recommended by the server. I get to taste the broth, it has a sesame oily taste, its also good!

Verdict: reasonably priced. Broth is good🍜 ramen is al dente plus, i love it extra hot.

I ordered their miso chashu and it did not fail my expectations. As I entered the premises, it didn’t have that Japanese vibe compared to their neighbors Nihonbashitei, Isshin, and Kikufuji, but the place is well-lighted They also do not have credit card as a payment option, so make sure to bring cash when you visit this place. Edamame had too much salt on top but it was fresh and served piping hot (my burnt tongue was the witness)! The staff were average, and it was quite disappointing because they did not know how to do the correct computation for the pwd discount. I was also quite disappointed because, for a ramen house, they do not offer house tea. They also do not serve sashimi and this is quite sad because it’s always a perfect combo, hot ramen and a serving of shake sashimi. But I’m still giving it 4 stars because, after all, it’s the ramen that matters.

Hands down. The best TanTanMen in Manila 😍
Available only after 6pm onwards, this fiery bowl of noodles will warm your heart just enough to keep you sweating and wanting for more. The bouncy, curly noodles does a perfect job of carrying the broth to your lips.

Some will argue the noodles itself are like pancit canton and they don't like it, but then each ramen type calls for different type of noodles. This ain't tonkotsu, I can't imagine using straight noodles in this one. Thin straight noodles would get overpowered by this beast.

Still one of the best ramen places. It is authentic and delicious. My usual here would be the Karamiso (Level 4), the level is the intensity of spiciness. Yes, I kinda like it hot. The noodles and the broth makes this perfect bowl of ramen an outstanding piece of food. Also, you should try their Tantanmen.

First time to dine at Ukokkei Ramen Ron with a friend. We ordered a set meal. I was not able to take a photo of our orders, my bad. It's not my thing to take pictures of what I eat. Despite that, I will try to make a review based on unbiased opinion. Here it goes.

Ukkokei Ramen Ron is a Japanese Restaurant, located at Edades St. San Lorenzo Makati. The place is rather small but I noted that though the place is small, they have many patrons. The place was full when my friend and I arrived. The menu had few selections, mainly focused on ramen and japanese noodle dishes. The size of order is huge! as in huge! Half order was more or less good for two people. Despite the size of their order, I was able to finish one large bowl because of the taste. The Mizo Ramen soup was tasty! Full of flavor though not strong. I would recommend this resto to family and friends. I would definitely go back to this place again. Love it!

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time since a lot of my friends told me that the ramen here is really good. So one afternoon I went here to finally taste their food. I got the Shoyu ramen with extras: garlic, chashu and karamiso and one plate of gyoza. Oh my goodness! when I got my first bite, I said to myself oh yes this is good ramen 💕The gyoza was good also. The serving was big but I was able to finish everything!

My cravings brought me here one Saturday night. Surprisingly, at 8:30 PM, a lot of people were still coming in to get their ramen fix too.

I was feeling a little adventurous so I tried the cheesy tantanmen. The noodles were just the right thickness for me and the broth was rich. It was pretty salty but I knew it would be because of the cheese so I honestly had no complaints. It worked for me but it may not work for others. I almost wasn't able to finish it because the serving was huge. Almost.

Just remembering the taste is making me crave again.

It was a rainy evening and my princess fetch me at work. We both agreed to eat at Ukokkei Ramen Ron at Tuscany, McKinley but we found out that the shop was already closed so we opted for the Makati branch. The place was full of ramen lovers.

Overall: 4/5 stars

Ambiance - 3.5/5. The restaurant needs a renovation. They need to work on their lighting to attract more customers and the place looks old.

Customer service - 5/5. We'll give them a 5 on this because of how sensitive they were with the needs of their customers. However, they need to smile as often as possible.

Food quality:

Size - 5/5. Food portions were decent and served warm.

Presentation - 4/5. The bowl didn't look overwhelming and dull.

Quality - 4/5. The bowl of noodles were tasty and noodles were firm. The meat was a bit bland but the broth compensates for it.

Ukokkei was the first ramen I ever tried. When they first served that bowl of tantanmen, I thought wow this is too much. There is no way I can finish it. After 20 minutes, I ravaged the entire bowl. The broth is rich, creamy, and thick. The taste of peanuts, spice, and fowl evident with each bite. The noodles were springy and light. This was the best ramen I ever tasted and it still is. My youngest sister describes their miso ramen as the ramen that touched her soul. This is the only restaurant she is willing to line up for.

Number of times visited: more than 2X

Parking: Available but limited. Location is in a busy area in Makati.

Food: There was a time that there weren’t a lot of good ramen places here in Metro Manila. This place became one of the favorites because I never knew ramen could be this good. We have ordered different kinds of ramen but the tantanmen remains to be our favorite. Spicy and very much flavorful.

Price: This is pretty tricky – some may consider that a bowl of ramen costing at Php300+ is expensive. Yes it may be, but for us, it’s worth it. The serving is quite large and the taste is worth every cent.

Service: We have heard stories about the not so friendly service here but so far we have been treated well on our visits.

Place: Since it’s a ramen place, the Japanese themed décor is consistent. Place is not too flashy, a bit simple, but it’s clean.

Repeat: Probably, if we are in Makati. There are a lot of ramen places nowadays and we’d like to give the other places a try as well!

I am not the biggest fan of ramen, as I usually get bored halfway through finishing the bowl (nakakaumay). Plus, the oiliness and richness of typical ramen hurts my hyperacidic stomach.

These are things i DID NOT experience while eating my Shoyu Ramen at Ukokkei. I just love their broth -- not too rich and not too mild either. It was a perfect balance of flavors!

Also, it is said that ukokkei broth has health benefits 😁

I will definitely come back

My Japanese boss said that its one of the few ramen places in Manila that are really good. It was soo good/authentic, he brought some delegates from our countries there for lunch.

Be on the look out also for their famous Tantanmen bowl. Its the spiciest bowl they have. There used to br a time when they only serve 10 bowls per day of this variant. I'm not sure if its on their regular menu already.

Ukokkei, which means 'silky fowl', is one of the ramen place that has opened even before ramen became a hype in Manila.

I saw my friend blogger posted a review about this restaurant years before the trend. So this time, my another friend invited me for dinner here.

To give you a brief idea why naming it from a fowl, they uses the 'black chicken' as we often call it, because of its dark greyish black skin, as the base for their broth. Chinese would usually make a medicinal soup using this bird plus other medicine, cooking it until tender. It produces a light, flavorful broth, but not as rich as our usual tonkotsu broth.

So I got their bestseller, the Miso Butter Corn. It uses different types of miso, butter and the fowls broth as the base, then topping it with chasyu, corn, butter, and beansprouts. I really loved their broth. It's not your typical miso base broth, it has a play of subtle fermented, salty, buttery, umami broth. The flavor is not as rich and dense as tonkotsu, but for a miso, its rich. I really liked the hard noodles combining with its broth and sweet corn that pops into your mouth.

The only downside for me is that there is a thing layer of butter on top of the broth, without even combining the butter from the corn. Nevertheless, it was pure awesomeness.

Tantan-men. Japanese version of dan dan noodles, a Sichuan specialty. Ramen in a reddish, spicy chilli and sesame soup, usually containing minced pork, garnished with chopped scallion and chili and occasionally topped with the likes of spinach or Bok Choi (chingensai).

Source: Wikipedia

I dunno when it started but The Ramen Era is here to stay.  I am no Ramen expert.  I rely on my tastebuds whenever i eat a bowl of steaming Japanese noodle soup.  Some say that Ukokkei started it all.  According to the foodie universe,  their Tantanmen is the best.   The fact that they only make 30 bowls per day and only available at 6pm. One has to come in early to get a sip of this elusive noodle soup.

Reasonably priced at php 390.  This bowl of ramen goodness will give you a rush of endorphins,  no matter how shitty your day was.  Feel-good food.  The broth is seasoned well,  flavorful and a lil spicy.   Frankly speaking,  you dont need the other elements of thr dish,  the broth is the star of the show.   The noodles are chewy - just the way i liked it.  I forgot the other elements of the dish as i was enthralled by the richness of the broth.  Ramen induced trance.

This bowl is worth the trip to Makati.  The hours spent sitting in traffic will be a thing of the past after the first sip of Tantanmen.

Tried Ukokkei Miso Ramen and also the Spicy one at Arnaiz Branch. Ukokkei is actually one of the first Restaurants serving authentic Ramen in Manila before it actually became a hit! When the ramen craze started here everyone was talking about this restaurant so I just had to try it. Not much of a fan of the Spicy Ramen cause I don't like Spicy Food but the Miso Ramen was a HIT! The soup is very flavorful and rich and they serve a generous amount of noodle. It's quite pricey around P450_ per order but it's totally worth the price! I just love how the ambiance feels so authentic, they even have this open kitchen where you can see the chef actually pulling the egg noodles manually. Only con of this place is that they're very strict when it comes to SHARING. The staff aren't as friendly too.

The only thing that I don't like in this place is the staffs, they starting at us like they're talking behind our backs. Good thing the food is great. I hope the manager of this restaurant teach their staffs on how to welcome and treat their costumers.

First tasted Ukokkei's Tantanmen three years ago. At that time, I thought it was so overrated. But for some reason, after seeing a photo of the ramen on my feed, I got interested again. To my surprise, this time, I super loved it! The soup is really thick and flavorful. I can taste the love. It's the right mix of sweet, chilly and savory.

I don’t know…I have a lot of friends who love Ukkokei’s ramen, but somehow, G and I have visited a couple of times and aren’t as impressed. (Ramen Yushoken still tops our list!)

I had the Shio (Salt) Ramen and G had the Shoyu (Soy Sauce) Ramen, each with a Ajitsuke Nitamago (Seasoned Boiled Egg). Their bowls at regular size were quite large for me, but they actually have BIG sizes which are scarily much bigger than these (I don’t know how a person could actually tackle those)! In terms of taste, both soups were okay, more on the lighter side, but not as rich as we would have liked. They were also generous with the chashu (pork), which was sliced to nice thin layers of meat and fat. Noodles were on the thinner side, and while this may be the standard in authentic Japanese ramen joints, G would have wanted “fatter” noodles. But overall, not bad. I guess we couldn’t help comparing this with our favorite ramen.

Still the best tantanmen in the city. Only available in the evenings, come early to make sure you get one. I've tried the tantanmens elsewhere but nothing else comes close to Ukkokei's. This is the Makati branch; not sure if the one at McKinley is just as good.

Ordered the curry tantanmen and chicken karage. The broth was superb, however the noodles was soggy and was served too hot. The chicken karage though was great.

This is the place that one could say started the ramen craze - Manila's own Ramen Ground Zero, with a Ramen "Nazi" owner who decreed no sharing and no take outs for any noodle bowls coming out of his kitchen. (I read the menu; take outs are allowed for bento meals, which I think weren't in his earliest menus. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

But I don't know where the jump from "Black Bone Silky Fowl" (a special kind of black chicken from China, the base for most of their noodle soups) to tonkotsu ramen - the base for the ramen current craze that has enveloped Manila and refuses to leave - was made.

I ordered a shio ramen, no extra chashu, just the basic bowl. It had bamboo shoots, chopped scallion, deliciously firm noodles, one slice of pork belly, and the broth, served at perfect temperature - not too hot, not cold, but ready to eat. The broth was a bit salty, honestly.

There are still the big groups, the date couples, and a healthy number of Japanese patrons who pay several thousands to come here, drinks included. I'm not sure what I'm missing, so that means we will return.

I have tried twice here. Miso butter ramen is very tasty but pricy. If you like light tasted broth, you should come here. Staff looks very dull and not attentive.

I would immediately head out of work just so I can get myself a bowl of their tantanmen. Really flavorful and rich, just how I like it. The gyoza though, although tasted really good, was poorly executed. When you pick it up the meat falls out of the skin, so it tends to be a bit messy.

My default order is their spicy tantanmen. Sucks that they only serve it at night! But I guess it's part of the dish's charm. Nevertheless, it's always good whenever I order it.

Food - 5/5
Cost - 5/5
Service - 5/5

Yes we waited outside until they open. We really want to know what the fuss about their Tantanmen. We are not disappointed, actually we are happy tummies after but we're so bloated because the servings is good for two.

The taste is so rich. I'm a ramen lover...

Ukokkei will always be my first love years before ramen craze even started. I thought that the arrogant attitude of the chef was cute. He can get away with it because he was sought after. Untill something happened....but despite me eating in other ramen houses, i would still go back to my first love especially when i need comfort.

Servings was large! Was able to try their Tantanmen Ramen and gyoza. Gyoza was average but the ramen was really really gooood ---- a large bowl of steaming hot goodness. The broth was creamy, meaty and packed with flavor! Sadly, their Tantanmen's offered at night time only so if ever you have plans of trying it, I advise you to visit on dinner time. Price was average and ambiance is just so so (typical look for a jap resto). Service was fast and place is airconditioned, although it did not seem like it (my friends kept complaining about the room temperature lol).

Years ago, before we witnessed the ramen invasion, this was my sanctuary whenever I needed a comforting bowl of soup and noodles.
It's been a while since I've last dined here (went on a hiatus from carbs) and going back this weekend, was like visiting the house of an old friend.. It's familiar but some things have changed. I noticed a more relaxed atmosphere. But this may be because I wasn't seated at the counter this time around so I couldn't see the kitchen action. Also, the place seems less cramped and definitely brighter.
I used to religiously order their miso butter corn. Then when they released their tan tan mien, I would alternate the two. During this last visit, I was supposed to get the miso butter corn (oh, the memories.. 😍) but at the board near where we sat, I spied the words--curry tan tan mien! Of course I just had to try it!! Well.. It definitely tasted like curry but I missed the richness of the original tan tan mien broth. It's nice to give it a try, though.
I will be back soon to get their miso butter corn.. I miss it so much and not treating myself to it sooner is torture.😆

We got the spicy tantanmen and the curry tantanmen. The soups were really good, but the noodles might have been better off a bit al dente. The staff didn't seem to enjoy what they were doing, like they were burnt out, but at least that didn't spoil our dining experience. Still one of the top contenders in the Ramen War...so far.

The sets are pretty huge for one person (malakas pa kumain si Sparky that time). Ramen was okay. The famous tantanmen wasn't available that time (apparently, it's only available at night), so I wasn't able to try it.

Staff was very attentive and friendly.

Place was a bit warm (but then it might be because I'm pregnant and eating hot ramen ^_^).

Sets: value for money :)

Ramen is the biggest thing to come from Japan since sushi. But to me, it's just a cheap lunch. I am not a fan of over the top ramen. Ramen should be simple with chewy noodles, deep and rich stock, and a good helping of charsui (cooked pork).

Ukkokei has it. It might look simple but it is flavored well. Noodles cooked to perfection. Not over the top or fusion as other places in Manila are. This is good old fashion Kanto ramen. It's best if you just get the shio (salt flavored) or shoyu ramen. The basic ramen is always a good start to trying ramen.

Flavorful broth but too greasy. The noodles are good but the soup to noodle ratio isn't equal and some toppings fail to blend. Mendokoro's ramen has better flavor, is less greasy and has cleaner aftertaste. Sanitation isn't a concern because of the open kitchen. Their gyoza is the best in MNL! Hanamaruken ramen has better dry ramen.

Overall; good but not great.

2016: The place isn't that cozy. But you line up for their ramen. One of the best #tantanmen ramens in the metro. Other ramen are just as equal as what other ramen house's offer.

Quality is quite consistent but you have to be early as they just prepare limited number of noodles and stock.

Reinvent, diversify, and improve...

Everyone has their favorite. Ukkokei is mine and I will not let you tell me otherwise. I've been around the ramen block and I always order the miso broth so I can finally say with authority that ukkokei is the best. Their seafood miso and regular miso are our favorites. If we're feeling extra hungry the gyoza will hit the spot.

For me, Ukkokei is the number one ramen restaurant here in Manila. They have been one of the first in the ramen scene yet up until now the quality of their dishes is still the same if not better. Must try for me is the Curry Tantanmen and Karamiso
