We ate here last December while we were Christmas shopping. It was about 6pm and I remember this because we wanted to avoid the dinner crowd, but the place was almost packed. The staff was efficient, nonetheless, and our orders were taken and served fairly quickly.
We had the ebi and steak donburi, which I believe was a limited Christmas season offering, cheese age, and California maki. The ebi and steak donburi was superb! Beef was tender and juicy while the ebi tempura was fresh, crispy yet light. It came with a side of corn kakiage, which we enjoyed as well. The cheese age and California maki were both good, too.
It was a good dining experience overall and we will be back for sure.
I had dinner tonight here with friends and their kids. Tenya delivered the usual quality food at decent price tags. We got six dishes, three sides, and drinks, and we only paid around Php 2,500.
I personally had a trio of plates and shared some to my seatmates. The Salmon Crunch Salad was the favorite of many. It had ample greens, and salmon chunks made extra good with sesame dressing.
On the side, tiny but tasty Pork Gyoza was excellent company to my main meal of Yasai Tendon. My Tenya bowl had crispy but not greasy tempura coating with their own thick signature sauce.
The place is clean and inviting. Staff are polite and pleasant. We ordered Hana Ooedo set that comes with two bowls of Nikujyaga, 4 appetizer and 4 rice priced at P 1155 I loved the cheddar cheeze covered in seaweed wrapper and the tofu. The Nikujyaga is no special taste to me. I just noticed the soup that is so comforting and the beef is tender. I also tried their Matcha milk TEA priced at P 135 which is too sweet and the pearl is not as chewy as the other milk tea that I have tasted. We will be back to taste other food on the menu.
Tenya celebrated yet another Ten-Ya Day! Enjoyed our Buy One Get One bowls, quality was maintained with great service to boot. Place was well kept, clean and had beautiful interiors. Our Tendon bowls came with a cup of miso soup. Recommended.
I think this is the 2nd or 3rd maybe to visit this establishment. Their staff is courteous and accommodating. Orders arrived exact on time. Will come back to try their desserts and other cuisines...
We ordered soba hot and udon cold, and I think that udon is much tastier with its thick noodles. Plus, the cold broth is very tasty and a unique way to enjoy your noodles. The tempura is delicious, and much better when dipped in sauce with radish. I would've never thought that I'd enjoy green beans and sweet potato like that! Every bite is so worth it.
Upon what was promised in their menu is really good tempura. We have tried All-Star Teishoku, the Udon, and their California Maki. For a cheap price, their seafood and vegetable tempura were both well-seasoned, well-cooked, tender and crispy at the same time. These had thought-out proportions considering the teishoku was a sampler. Their rice was well-cooked and moist (this is an important detail to me). Service was very compliant of our requests, they inform us of how long each item will be expected to our table. We were also asked of our feedback, especially on the food. We would definitely come back to this restaurant.
First time to eat here, i love anything with cheese so i recommend the chikuwa cheese. The tiger prawns were really good plus their soba is seasoned just right. The noodles on their ramen had a distinctive taste and my husband loved it. Service was fast, staff was friendly even asked us for a feedback. Price range will be about P500/head for 2 people. Will surely come back next time.
Their tempura is special - something about their breading. I'm really glad they diversified their menu, because I could never finish their rice bowls, and hated the wasted rice. Now diners have more choices to suit their appetites. The iced coffee (coffee ice cubes in milk) is a favorite of mine. Cheese lovers would love the Isobe Cheese.
This resto was brought in by the Racks group and place for those who love Tempura too much. I tried their All Star Teishoku and it was reasonably priced at around 365 pesos for a set meal variety that includes a miso soup, potato salad and a seafood and vegetable variety of their tempura. It somehow satisfied my Japanese craving for the night.

Kudos on the kids menu. ISOBE CHEESE!!! Thumbs up! Maybe ease up on the seasoning of the potato salad. To sum, all good. Give you a strong 3.5 out of 5.

One of the best tempuras I’ve ever tasted.
The food is great and delish plus it’s not that pricey. It’s TENYAlicious! The place is nice and their staffs were friendly and accommodating. Overall, I am very satisfied!
Tenya Tempura Tendon, serves a decent staple (tempura) from fresh ingredients and cooked in a consistent quality that makes the fried shrimp dipped in batter crispy from the outside yet moist and soft in the inside. Its simple unpretentious and just straight out satisfying.
Food is ok with large servings. However, our order almost took forever to serve. The standard 10 to 15 mins waiting time lasted 45 mins which also took us 3 to 4 followups.
Their california maki was the best!
The store ambiance was quite okay.
The store employees were accommodating.
The food were okay but i think they need to improve their salad.
Food was superb
We ordered the tempura basket
No service charge which was great
No wifi though
The cheese wrapped in nori was delicious. 🍒
Tenya reminded of the food back in Japan simply because of the quality, freshness, and presentation of their dishes. Their tiger prawns are worth it, considering having the right amount of batter and its size. I also tried the Classic Tempura Hot Udon Set, and it was overwhelming because their Udon was perfect (the 'saltiness' of the broth was just right).
Overall, Tenya deserves a lot of attention and notice because I don't think this Japanese chain is popular here in Manila. To me, their tempura should be the 'golden' standard of tempuras (perhaps THE standard) here in Manila.
Will definitely go back to try their other dishes :)
Did I like it?
Yes. We had dinner here on a Saturday and there were a number of people inside but still, there were plenty of seats available. The service was nice and the staff were really accommodating. The food was great! We ordered Oyaku Jyu, Spicy Salmon Maki, Cheese stuffed Japanese Fish Cake, and Taiyaki for dessert.
Their Spicy Salmon Maki was bomb, Oyaku Jyu was just okay, the Fish cakes were amazing and we loved the Nutella stuffed Taiyaki, the other flavors were too sweet for our liking. :)
Is it affordable?
Our total bill for 4 items was 1000. It's really affordable.
Will I come back?
Yes! I loved their maki and I still have to try their tempura :)
If you want to eat everything tempura, this is the right place. Used spoon and fork to eat, well chopsticks is not for me but I can get used to tempura. Big serving to the point that I can't finish my plate or should I say my tray. Much better if they have a rice all you can option to enjoy that tempura monster serving.
Me and my couz ordered the tempura and noodles combo (udon for him, soba for me), spicy salmon salad, and the cute dessert.
The ambiance was good, but was seriously understaffed for an early lunch. It took us quite some time outside, before we learned that we could just enter the place and choose our seats. They had nice interiors and mini couches. Service was a bit slow since understaffed, understandable since they're new. The current staff were friendly, which makes up for being understaffed.
The cute dessert was a bit cold, would have been better if it was served warmer. Out came the salad, and it was surprisingly good! We're not into salads, but i wanted some corn so, lol. For non salad eaters, it's actually delicious, and had just the right amount of spiciness (mild). Out came the tempura sets, the prawn, kani, and vegetables tasted good, but could work on a little bit more seasonings. There were condiments, and i had to add some to the noodles since it was a bit bland for my taste. I had a bit of luck with adding a soy condiment to the noodles, so even if i was full, i kept on drinking the soup. I haven't been able to finish the kakiage and rice since i was too full!
Overall, it was a pleasant experience. It's just that they're understaffed (they're currently hiring for more staffs). I'll give it some time and more staff, and it will be a great dining place. I will also recommend this to my friends :D
Food was good..We had the tempura and soba combo and the classic tempura rice bowl. The cold soba was just right and the soy sauce complimented its otherwise simple texture. The tempura was light and crunchy. The tempura is actually one of the better ones I have had and the shrimp size did not disappoint. The serving was very filling. The price was a little more than what I expected. The restaurant (and the restroom) was clean, the staff was attentive though service was a bit slow (wait time was about 20 minutes despite the very few customers) however, the food was still warm. No service fee, but the staff welcomes gratuity.
Went a little far South on a weekend for our family dental checkup and ended up in SM Southmall for a late lunch. My daughters have been going crazy over cold soba so when we saw Tenya, we went for it. Tenya - SM South Mall. The place was well lit and very clean. I liked the simple but nice interiors - the wood installations, the red tiles, the white drop lamps, the lined up frames with pictures of Japanese food and the small Japanese trinkets. I loved the simplicity!
Stepped into Tenya for a tempura lunch. Had the vegetable, mix seafood and chicken mayo tempura with miso soup. Everything was good but tempura could have been crispier. If you love avocado, then you must try the avocado shake with coconut milk.
For desert we had the yaki bear sundae and Japanese cheese... YUM!
The staff were very courteous and attended to all our needs.
Just around SM Southmall's Food Street, you can find this wonderful Japanese restaurant Tenya Tempura Tendon. The restaurant offers a variety of Japanese foods and their Tendon Set meals.
The first dish that we tried is their Spicy Salmon Salad. This is their fresh garden salad topped with salmon fillet, spicy Japanese mayo and Tekasu dressing. One of the best sellers amongst my foodie friends. The creamy dressing with the salmon is just perfect. Definitely a must try if you're trying out Tenya. Masarap without reservations.
We also tried their various Tendon Meal sets, which is composed of high quality tempura, with combination of either squid, salmon, kani, green beans, mushrooms, sweet potatos, kisu, eggplants and tiger prawns. The set meals that we tried are:
All Star Tempura (prawn, squid, salmon, kani, green beans and mushroom)
Asakusa Special Tempura (3 prawns and green beans)
Classic Tempura (prawn, squid, kisu, green beans, sweet potato)
Marutoku Tendon (black tiger prawn, squid, sweet potato, eggplant with Japanese Potato Salad).
Their Tempura and other fried dishes were not too oily that is why I liked it. The squid and the prawns are also not overcooked. each serving is also generous to fill you up.
For desserts, the restaurant served us with this very cute panda cakes. They call this treat Ningyo Yaki, a famous cake snack from Asukasa Tokyo with flavors like Dulce De Leche and Nutella. My personal favorite is their Dulce De Leche which is creamy and sweet.
They also serve their Ningyo Yaki Sundae, Ice Cream topped with salted caramel popcorn and their nutella Ningyo Yaki. So cute and so good. Masarap and cute.
Overall, the experience is really nice. Tenya is a great way to eat out with friends if you're looking for some nice tendon set meals. The restaurant is very spacious and the lighting is very good. My personal foodie rating for the restaurant is a 3.5 out of 5.
THanks to Tenya Tempura Tendon and Sm Southmall Food Strip for the amazing meals.
One thing: When in Tenya, do not miss their Spicy Salmon Salad! Tasty salmon, perfect with the tekasu dressing that comes with it. Greens are crunchy, a marker that they are of great quality and are really fresh!
I like Tenya's mission: To provide guests with high quality tendon and tempura, which were once regarded as expensive cuisines, at an affordable price. To date, Tenya Tempura Tendon operates 144 locations in Japan, 4 in Thailand, 2 in Indonesia and 4 in the Philippines. How cool is that?
Other dishes that we had:
*SOBA/UDON SET - high quality soba & udon imported from Japan
1. All Star Tempura - prawn, squid, salmon, kani, green beans& mushrooms.
2. Asakusa Special Tempura - 3 prawns, green beans
3. Classic Tempura - prawn, squid, kisu, green beans, sweet potato
4. Marutoku Tendon - black tiger prawn, squid, sweet potato, eggplant with Japanese potato salad
Flavors pretty much taste the same, it was quite hard to distinguish which dish was which. The thing that stands out is that their tempura arent oily at all! That's a big plus as I hate some tempuras that give off that awful oily taste.
*NINGYO YAKI (cake snack from Asukasa, Tokyo. Available in Dulce De Leche & Nutella flavors) - cute little japanese cakes the kids would love.. Flavor however may fail to give that omph to wow for some adults
*NINGYO YAKI SUNDAE - same like ningyo yaki only with chocolate sundae goodness
*BAGUCHI - complimentary house tea imported from Japan! I swear youd ask for more than one round of this hot tea
Will definitely be back for that spicy salmon salad! Its sooo good.. Come and visit Tenya, now :)

Japanese cravings satisfied with Tenya's yummy offerings!
Let me start with their impeccable service! Despite the weekend foot traffic, they have managed to provide us with quick and efficient service - a quality that is lost nowadays with most restaurants.
The restaurant is well decorated too. Portraits hanging are conversation starters. The Zen garden is really refreshing for the eyes too! Feels like I'm taken to Japan!
For the food, I really loved the Spicy Salmon Salad! The crispy salmon fillet mixed with spicy Japanese mayo & Tekasu dressing is a feast in the mouth!
The Udon Sets will definitely fill your tummy with high grade Japanese rice and tasty teriyaki sauce! My favorite is ALL STAR TEMPURA which has prawns, squid, salmon, kani, green beans& mushrooms. Everything you need in 1 complete meal! Plus it comes with high quality soba and udon too!
To end this delicious Japanese feast is the NINGYO YAKI SUNDAE - it's basically Ningyo Yaki which is a Japanese Cake in cute panda shape with some caramel popcorns and yummy vanilla ice cream!
Tenya is not too pricey and a great alternative to your usual rice meals. For those craving for Japanese Donburi, I definitely recommend this!
This is my first time to try Tenya Tempura Tendon. Tenya is the most successful tendon chain in Japan, serving good quality tendon at affordable pricing. Tendon is a dish consisting of tempura served over rice. They served us a mixture of their tendon meals. Their tendon meals come with different side dishes like Miso Soup, Udon or Potato Salad. The various types of tempura that we were able to try were: shrimp, sweet potato, squid, green beans, salmon and mushroom. The tempura batter and frying process is different from what we are used to. The batter is not as oily and the meat inside is not dry and crispy. Definitely a healthier tempura!
Tenya Tempura Tendon is a Japanese Tempura Tendon franchise that's known for their quick-service, affordable tendon dishes. We were able to try a number of items from their menu, and here's why you should consider Tenya on your SM Southmall food adventures.
The Spicy Salmon Salad (Php 225) is a dish you just can't miss. It's a fresh garden salad vegetables with salmon fillet and spicy japanese mayo. The dish has a strong mayo flavor and it actually isn't too spicy. I liked the crunch from the fresh greens and the crispy salmon. It's definitely the bets dish I've had in Tenya!
If you're craving for tempura, you'll enjoy the Asakusa Special Tendon Set (Php 315) which is a bowl full of 3 prawns and green beans. I love prawns so the more prawns the merrier! The All-Star Tendon set (Php 325) is another best-seller that consists of prawn, squid, salmon, kani, green beans, and mushrooms. The tempura batter is light and the sauce is matches the tempura perfectly.
Of all the dishes in the bowl, the prawns and the green beans really stood out for me as nicely done. The sauce from Tenya is pretty good that it helps elevate each bite of tempura. Sadly, I didn't particularly like the squid beacause it seems to lack flavor.
Tenya also has a very cute Ningyo Yaki, a cake snack from Asukasa Tokyo that's available with either a Nutella or Dulce De Leche fillings. I'm sure you'll love biting the heads of these cute pandas to get that burst of warm Nutella or Dulce De Leche all over your palate. You can also get the Ningyo Yaki Sundae, which also has ice cream topped with popcorn. The popcorn and ice cream combination was quite new to me! Surprisingly, the saltiness of the popcorn pairs quite well with the ice cream.
You can also enjoy their authentic servings of house tea. I loved this as well!
If you're looking for a nice tempura place in SM Southmall, strongly consider having a blast in Tenya. And go get that Spicy Salmon Salad!

I love the sauce and their legit japanese rice. However I find their serving size small. It's not good for sharing. Everything's just small sadly but it's really good.
Had dinner here with sibs last weekend when we went to Southmall for last-minute Christmas shopping. We originally planned to dine at BF after but because of the traffic, we decided to just eat at Southmall instead. We saw this restaurant walking back from the parking and thought this is a resto we've never been to before so we gave it a try.
I ordered the Classic one. It includes tiger prawn, squid, fish, sweet potato and green beans. The batter wasn't as crispy as i expected it to be but it was okay. The sauce they put on top is a winner! Just the right sweetness with little saltiness. Goes very well with the tempuras. Good thing they have a small pot of that sauce on every table which means you can have as much as you want! Lol. This meal costs 255php and it's sulit because they used japanese rice so you'd get really full after eating the whole thing. Haha. Each tendon meal comes with miso soup, too.
Would love to come back and try other dishes :)
Tempura was good but servings was a bit small for its price. The ramen was bland but the house blend tea was nice. The service was commendable and their attendance were very courteous.
Tried it since it was a newly opened resto. My fave here would be their spicy salmon salad(almost good for 2/3). We ordered the chicken and pork meal. The meat was tender, covered lightly on a tempura breading served with soft rice and good miso soup. Portion for its price is just right. The staff were extra courteous and attentive, which is a good plus! Hopefully they won't change the food&service quality after a while though.
This is a good place to go when you're craving for tempura. I'm not really into tempura when we dined in to Tenya, but when I saw their kids meal, I ordered one. It's really adorable! I ordered kids meal 1, which is served on a pink convertible car-designed plate. It comes with yakult and a free mechanical pencil. The tempura, for me, tastes ordinary. Not bad, but no "wow" factor either. I also ordered spicy salmon salad, and I'm glad I did. It has just the right amount of spice, and the dressing goes well with the salad. This one's my favorite! For dessert, I tried their Lite Citrus flavored fruity juicy pop. It's sour with a slight hint of sweetness and it comes with a serving of salt. Salt and popsicle-weird, right? But it was a surprisingly good combination. We also ordered the Ningyo-yaki sundae. Again, the cuteness caught our attention that's why we ordered this one. You may choose either chocolate or caramel filling for the bear bread. For me, it's.. Well, it's a sundae served with a cute bear and popcorn. It's cute and it's sweet, just like any other sundae.
Overall, I like their food. And their service is very efficient. Price for food is just right.
