Taiwanese cuisine continues to make its mark in Filipinos tastebuds. There are now more restaurants serving Taiwan Street Food than ever before.
Botan Black serves authentic Taiwanese and they are a hidden gem in BGC. Their location is not easy to spot. They are on the second floor of Wumaco Building, Lane P corner 9th Avenue, along Highstreet, on top of the Bird Box stall.
This concept started as a waffle, sandwich and milk tea shop located in Makati. Now it’s a full-blown restaurant offering upscale dining in both Makati and now, BGC location.
On this invite our team from WeLoveToEatPh indulged in a feast- from unique starters to ice shaved desserts. Everyone raved about the tasty and crisp, Fried Pork Intestines, which I politely declined to eat.
I did love three other fried appetizers served, Salted Egg Prawns, classic Salt & Pepper Squid and the addicting bite-sized cuts of Crispy Pork Liempo. I suggest having these pieces before jumping on Botan Black’s well-seasoned mains!
What not to miss? Boldly flavored and spicy, Taiwanese Beef Noodle. It has tender beef, fresh noodles, bokchoy, scallions, and Chinese pickled mustard greens.
If rice is your preference, pair it up with 3 Cup Chicken in a hotpot and BBQ Beef Kang Kong. I guarantee you’ll end up having more carbs than usual.
The Taiwan Style Halo Halo with red bean, monggo, jelly, pearl boba, pudding, nata, taro and more will surely make you smile. There’s also just Red Bean Ice if you wish to keep it simple.
REDISCOVER an authentic Taiwanese restaurant located at a building hidden in plain sight. The restaurant itself is at the second floor, where Bird Box is also found. Botan Taiwanese Restaurant offers authentic Taiwanese cuisine this side of Manila. Bringing into the food scene, what is trending and most sought after in Taiwan.
Must try the following! Century Egg Tofu - soft, silky tofu topped with flossed meat and a savory soy glaze. A very refreshing appetizer and a small few spoonfuls is all you need to prepare for a feast. So, one order can feed more than one.
3 Cup Chicken - mildly spiced chicken cutlets served in a hot stone bowl with garlic, basil, ginger and a few other herbs. The bowl is quite generous with meat.
Fried Large Intestine with Leek - clean, deliciously fried pork intestines, the outer layer had that distinct crispiness and the inner portion is soft, chewy but none of that bitter taste since it was cleaned thoroughly. The leeks gave it that sweet, aromatic flavor.
Cispy Pork Liempo - unlike the Pinoy counterpart, Botan's version has been lightly breaded, seasoned and fried to a crispy pop. I see myself eating this on its own. Great even without pairing it with rice.
Salted Egg Prawns - huge, perfectly soft prawns coated in salted egg yolk. Delicious!
If you find yourself lost in BGC, head straight to Botan for that hole in the wall eats that is worth its price. Recommended.
New Resto Find Alert!
Authentic, home made Taiwanese street food in the metro? Yes ! Check out Botan Black in BGC where 2nd used to be. Satisfy that craving at Botan in BGC.
Last Friday, we enjoyed the following...
There are a very few restaurants that serves authentic Taiwanese cuisine around the Metro, and Botan really captured the hearts of the Filipino pallette due to their innovative and homegrown flavors of its home land-- Taiwan.
Botan has a branch at Legaspi Village (near Makati Med) and it started as a small cafe that only serves 2-3 specialty dishes that changes everyday and mostly, coffee. And now, due to popular demand, they've expanded to BGC for a more upscale dining experience yet they are a bit hidden since they're at the 2nd floor of Wumaco Building at the 9th Ave corner 30th street.
We had a chance to try some of their best sellers and soon to be launched on their menu which are: for the appetizers, the Hot Sour Soup, Banki Soup, Chinese Spicy Beef Noodle, and Century Egg Tofu. For the Hot Sour Soup, this is honestly the first ever that made a mark on me since it's really new to my tastebuds! But out of the 3 soups, I prefer the Chinese Spicy Beef Noodles since I'm more into beefy broth and the noodles are so thick! While for the Banking Soup, it can really be paired or topped onto the rice. The Century Egg Tofu was a crowd's favorite.
For the mains, we had the 3 Cups Chicken, Crispy Pork Liempo, Salt & Pepper Squid, Salted Egg Prawns, Fried Pork Intestines, BBQ Beef Kang Kong. I normally don't eat fried intestines (of any kind) but this one is delish! It didn't taste entirely like an intestine. While the Cripsy Pork Liempo & Salted Egg Prawns really captured my heart-- both of them, nothing in between. Just took one bite of them and I just, ughhh, I didn't know that I was starving till I tasted them (lol). the Salt & Pepper Squid wasn't gummy and the batter was still crunchy! As for the Beef Kangkong & 3 Cups Chicken, they both have that Asian flavah kick that'll make you crave for a bottle or can of beer. Tbh, I only had one cup of rice just bcus they're noodles are very filling!
For the refreshments, they have a variety of Taiwanese drinks to choose from: Fresh Fruits Tea, Wintermelon Seafoam, and Triple Delight. Since I love Fruit Teas, their Fresh Fruit Tea is prolly the cutest high end fruit tea I've ever had! It has so many selections of diced fruits and you can really taste the fruitiness in one sip!
One of our fave restaurant to go whenever we are craving for comfort food. They served chinese, western and philippino food but we always order their chinese menu.
Loves their shabu-shabu set, sweet sour pork and noodle.
Their tapioca pearl milk tea comes in a gigantic tall glass!! Must try!
Botan Black is a wonderful, value for money restaurant that my family + A all love. 💕

Still the best chicken popcorn for me. And what I love in this restaurant is that they serve their drinks in BIG glasses. Just wow. It’s a BIG YES for me 😍
Unexpectedly Huge Servings.
Went there for dinner post workout with some friends, we were looking for something healthy. Looking at the prices I thought the serving would be small because it was relatively cheap, to my surprise it wasn't. The taste is also superb, not to mention the presentation of their food is beautiful.
The Tokwa Adobo and Mapo Tofu are both must tries.
Food / Quality - 4 out of 5
Service - 3 out of 5
Place - 4.5 out of 5
Value for Money / Price - 4 out of 5
The place was recommended by my friend and here is my feedback. Its a taiwanese cuisine btw.
The milktea is really good and the size is really big (see picture)
Since I love dumpling, i ordered one and it was nice as well.
Their pancakes is to thick and somehow we dont enjoy it much, nothing special on their pancakes.
My friends ordered sandwiches, rice, noodles. Theres a lot in their menu and its hard to decide what to eat. Haha.
Their service is quite slow when we dine. But the place is sophisticated like a fine dining restaurant ambiance with friendly price. :)
Great Chinese/Taiwanese food at reasonable prices in BGC. Must try!! The restaurant is not as visible since it's on the second floor of an unmarked building. The space was previously occupied by 2nd's, and while I was sad to see it close, I was happier that it was replaced by Botan Black. They also have a decent size function/private room for small get-togethers. The restaurant's black theme is classy enough, although the general ambience is pretty casual and relaxed, just the way I like it. Chicken pops is a popular choice with the kids. The basil dishes are a must try. Also calamansi black tea!
Thanks to a recent C-drama binge, I had a terrible craving for sweet and sour pork. Since I was in the area anyway, I thought I might as well drop by Botan. This is my first time visiting, and I'm so glad I did! I had their triple delight milk tea, sweet and sour pork set, and dumplings. On top of the food I ordered, they also served two vegetable side dishes.
The food is satisfying, but I loved the milk tea the most. Sweet enough, but not overwhelming or cloying. The sweet and sour pork tastes good, parang lutong bahay (in a good way!)—craving satisfied. As for the dumplings, taste-wise it had a slight ginger-y kick, which should suit most tastebuds fine. It's packed with meat mixed with some cabbages. Personally, I thought the dumplings were just okay, but for the size of each dumpling, it's still worth your money and still worth ordering.
Service is great, and the ambience of the place is so relaxing. Would recommend for meetings with friends or family, dates, or a quick break while shopping (alone or otherwise).
The place was cozy. I loved the ambience. The price was reasonable. I loved their drinks. They were all in large size of glasses and tasted good. Good thing we went there a little earlier as many people come there to dine specially at lunch time.
This place is hidden gem inside BGC, situated at the 2nd floor of Nike building. We had our after meal tea, coffee and drink in this cafe. The ambiance was cozy. There are dim lights which accentuates the nice place. There were black, white and gold colors which gave a place a sort of elegance. The place is also spacious good enough for group of 20 pax and more to fit in. Aside from the nice ambiance I personally love their Triple Delight Milk Tea beverage, I will definitely go back to try other itema in the menu.
So after mother's day lunch the sisters wanted coco milk tea, but since there wasn't one nearby I zomatoed and found this place. It's not hard to find if you're looking for it, there's a big sign that says botan black.
Nice place and it was really cool inside, perfect for this horrible summer weather.
Ordered wintermelon milk tea, tapioca milk tea, chocolate smoothie, c plus and lemon black tea.
The milk tea all have the same base, just different add ons. I enjoyed both, there's a unique flavour I can't seem to put my finger on, but then again it wasn't my order.
The c plus and lemon black tea where perfect. I prefer the black tea a bit more since the tea flavor really comes through.
The butter biscuit toast was great! I'd gladly pay the full price for it, and it's buy 1 take 1!!! Super steal!
And did I mention that the servings were huge? Great value for money, especially considering this is the BGC area. Please please please try this place. Let's help keep it around as long as possible. You won't regret it.
I'm happy I didn't get to try the food, it gives me a reason to come back. And I'll be back. Soon.
Spotted this slightly hidden restaurant weeks ago. Since then, I’ve been wanting to eat there because I read good reviews. They didn’t disappoint me - food and service wise.
We came in at 10pm and they were 30mins away from closing, but they welcomed us with eagerness. The server was very polite when she managed our expectations that only noodle dishes are avail due to the time, but happily accommodated the request for some stir fried veggies.
After our orders were taken, I asked if they had a toilet. The restaurant had one but it was being cleaned during that time. Moments later, they informed me that I can now use it. The floors were still soapy but it doesn’t matter because they interrupted the cleaning for me to use it quickly.
Remarkable service! Will definitely be back to try out the other dishes ❤️ Their noodles were really good! (Haha, forgot that this was supposed to be a food post because their server was definitely a champ in rendering great service!)
They offer big servings. One of the resto to go for for comfort food. Authentic! Nothing but praise for this resto. Prices are worth it while serving quality food.
I really love this restaurant! 👌🏻😊
According to my Taiwanese friend, all dishes that we ordered are authentic Taiwanese recipes.
Food choices are affordable and guaranteed delicious!!! 🤗
Great customer service!
We'll be back soon for Latin night 💃🏼🕺🏼
After our disappointing experience at Tomatito. We needed a go to another restaurant to regain our energy and cool down for a bit. This place reminded me of a Taiwanese restaurant i visited last year. It had some oriental designs and true enough this place came from Taiwan haha
I couldn’t resist but other their Milk Tea (60cc - Php 140) with extra pearl (Php 20). The serving was huge - in a tall glass.
This hidden gem in BGC is a good and pleasant place to eat at with friends you want to catch up with.
The green milk tea (though not green) is very good. Milky with Jasmine tea taste. We got 3 cups chicken and eggplant to have an exquisite taste of Taiwanese food and it didn't disappoint us.
I would definietely go back here again next time.
The little things in a dish is what makes it stand out. What Botan Black got right gor me (on my first visit) is their Spicy Beef Fried noodle. The flavor was spot on with the noodle, chewy like how asian noodles should be. But what really caughty attention was the beef. (Which was plentiful in the dish btw). The beef was really soft and tender, but not fatty. I would serously come back for this dish on my next visit.
I've only ever been here once because my friends and I wanted to drink milk tea. My friend ordered a Monggo Smoothie and I really liked that drink so for our lunch out, I ordered the Minced Adobo Pork Noodle Soup and the Monggo Smoothie. Monggo Smoothie (Php130) - It is huge. It was placed in a small carafe so it looks really sulit for its price. I love the taste, it's a good blend of monggo and milk. Even my friends who don't like monggo said it tasted great. You can really feel the texture of the powdered/crushed monggo beans. If you're lactose-intolerant, you can request that they remove the milk. It will still taste amazing.Minced Adobo Pork Noodle Soup (Php 200) - The serving for this is also huge! I was expecting it to be smaller, that;s why I ordered a Monggo Smoothie. If you don't have a huge appetite, this can be for sharing. It's really, really good, even though I didn't really get the hint of adobo. Perfect for a chilly day. The place is also very cool-looking. Very modern, all black and gold. Plus, there's this resident cat below. So yes, check the place out. If not for the food, at least do it for the drinks. Great milk tea and smoothies.
We ordered a set of finger food but I forgot the name, it is composed of fish cake, sweet potato fries, grilled corn and a chicken popper which costs 399. It is bit expensive for me. But i like their triple delight milk tea it is cheap for 110 pesos. The hot C plus tea is also good.
The place is really quiet, considering we went there around 6pm. The food was amazing, and the milk teas there is real good 😊 will visit there again, most definitely.

+4.5
What an underrated gem! It could use some marketing and a lil something to liven up the place.
No complaints about the food! We enjoyed everything:
- hot and sour soup
- dumplings
- green thai curry chicken
- spicy fish in bean sauce (my personal fave!)
- salt and pepper pork
Coming back to try other items on the menu, and their milk tea as well.
It's cheap for the food and ambiance they're offering. Milk tea costs only Php100.00 and it's a tall glass. I also enjoyed the Sweet and Sour Pork, Banana Choco Waffle and Chicken and Pork Chop Sandwiches.
Food was satisfying--both on taste and serving size. For the price we paid, it's sulit. Their salt and pepper fish fillet and BBQ beef sauce were really good. Flavorful, good serving temperatures, and big servings. We were pleasantly surprised with the serving size. Their popcorn chicken was okay. I think an extra pinch or two of salt would've made a difference. Their vanilla ice cream was typical just made fancy by adding pearls--and that's a welcome treat! I'll definitely come back when I find myself in BGC again.
We frequent this quaint Taiwanese cafe as often as we go spend a lazy Saturday afternoon in BGC. The restaurant is not as crowded, the interiors are cozy, and the overall ambience makes you linger a bit longer.
And what of the food? I highly recommend the Thai Curry Rice and the Salt & Pepper Fish from their Botan Set Menu. The meal is good for two! You also have a huge array of drinks and their signature milk teas in tall glasses to choose from. Unfortunately for me, I cannot have any milk tea😆
I am adding some rating here because of their superb execution of my partner’s surprise bday dinner last night. THANK YOU.
If you want good food and away from the bustling crowd, this cafe hits the spot.
Everyone would agree when I say that the location of the business is not only significant but more often than not, critical for it actually dictates the every direction of the owner's decisions. Or sometimes, it has zero weight.
Botan Black Cafe is one of very few businesses with location having insignificant value (it is at the 2nd floor of Wumaco Building in BCG with no attention-getting signage). Why do I say this? Baton Black Cafe knows what they're doing. The restaurant has this feel of confidence. It's smug enough (and has every right to be) to just keep on doing what it has been doing and just let customers come in and leave the simply-designed place as happy and satisfied people.
And happy we were. We had the classic Sweet and Sour Pork, Mini Shabu-Shabu and everybody's favorite, Eggplant with Basil. I ordered for the Fresh Fruit Tea and was pleasantly surprised that they served it in carafe. I didn't share it since everybody was busy finishing their own beverages in bigger than normal containers.
Were we happy with the service? Yes, although the service staff needs a (short) refresher course on basic serving (how about stress management?).
Will I be back to this Tawainese restaurant? Definitely! I need time to try the other masterpieces in the more-than-ten-page-menu.

Best dishes here are the Ba-kih, the pork blood cake and the ground pork with string beans.
The Taiwan beef noodle was also pretty good, except that the home made noodle version, which had a raw flour taste. The fried chicken also lacked flavor. Have tried almost all of the other menu items; nothing to write home about.
Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup of Botan Black in BGC. Seems simple but this is a bomb! You can shooce whether you want it to be really super spicy or just mild. And they serves this is a huuuge bowl. Hahahaa! Super yummy!!!
Service was quite slow but it was okay because food was really tasty. I ordered the garlic and pepper bean curd, and the chicken fried rice-- a combo I learned from my friend/ officemate. And it works because the rice already had chicken pieces, plus you have really flavorful tofu. Paid P473.84-- quite expensive for one person, but you'll have leftovers so quantity is okay I guess. Ambience is nice also, western music in a Taiwanese restaurant.
It was my first time trying this place out. I admit, I have been working at BGC for over a year now and was surprised that there was a place like this in the vicinity.
The place was gorgeous, somewhat fancy but not over the top. We (with my boyfriend) elected to sit on the couch. They had free WiFi which had surprisingly fast internet which made our wait for the food much convenient.
We ordered the Chicken Popcorn, beef brisket rice and Thai green curry rice. For the drinks, we had the triple delight milk tea and calamansi green tea.
Chicken Popcorn - looked like the ones you order at Serenitea's. Borderline salty for me.
Braised Beef Rice - the radish wasn't peeled well, had strands which are a drag to chew. Serving size was justifiable. The beef might need to be braised longer though.
Thai Green Curry Rice - very spicy which is ok. Again, serving size was more than enough for me. The dish also comes with 2 small servings of what I assume was mixed vegetables and cabbages.
In terms of their drinks, they place it in a big glass if you order the 700cc portion. Very much budget friendly at 100-130php. Also, have your sugar level at 75-100%; the establishment uses brewed tea for their refreshments.
Warning: the Calamansi Green Tea has "kiamoy/champoy"
Overall, will come back to try their other food at the menu
I really enjoy dining in Botan Black Cafe BGC. To be honest, my first experience with them was okay at best. I ordered three cups chicken then and was given a dish full of bones, hardly with meat.
I gave it another shot and I have been coming back again and again. Their pork chop rice is my favorite. Bread pork chop seasoned with spices served with hardboiled egg and rice. Next fave is their ba-kih rice. Almost as good as the one I had in Taiwan. I recommend ordering an egg when ordering the ba-kih rice.
For their sides, try the fried tofu and their sticky rice with blood. Don't forget to wash down your meal with their milk tea! I usually stick with their pearl milk tea instead of the one with pudding and nata.
Food - 3
Service - 4
Ambiance - 4
Recommended:
- N12 beef noodle soup (P300): huge chunks of beef, authentic noodles, and good soup! (Sadly, not the food I ordered)
- pudding milk tea (700cc, P100)
I didn't quite enjoy my 3 cups chicken rice (P250) but their price is affordable compared to other restaurants in BGC. Might go back again to try their other dishes. We stayed here to work since they have free wifi.
Botan Black Cafe is a taiwanese restaurant which specializes on taiwanese dishes, located at the 2nd floor of Wumaco Building 1, 9th Avenue BGC. I loved the interior of the restaurant, it has a minimalizes kind of set-up with a fusion of their bar lounge on the side. We decided to order Fried Bean Curd, Thai Green Curry Chicken Rice and Popcorn chicken
Fried Bean Curd - 110php - We started our meal with these crispy bean curd. The taste was not as good as the other bean curd that we tasted. It was kinda bland and not that crispy.
Popcorn chicken - 140php - The chicken was a bit bland and you really need a sauce for this meal. Good thing the chicken was a crispy.
Thai Green Curry Chicken Rice 260php - This was the saving grace on our meal. Loved the spiciness of the curry. Also, the creaminess of the coconut really complements with the whole dish.
Overall, I hope the management will improve the taste on their food. I will definitely come back to try their famous milk tea.
I was never aware of this restaurant exists at BHS until one night I saw their signage while walking. I got curious and so I searched for reviews in the web. They had a very good ratings and feedback, so I'm more eager to visit the place. Just this afternoon, we went there together with my workmates. And guess what? We all fell in love with this restaurant! The moment we open their door, we were greeted by their very nice and attentive staffs. Their interiors is very posh and the ambiance is so relaxing. I ordered Fried chicken drum rice and Calamansi tea while the others had Sweet and sour pork, beef brisket, fish fillet. They also had different variants of Milk tea. The food is delicious and the serving is huge especially the Teas! And of course the price, so affordable! The whole experienced is really satisfying, we'll definitely go back here.
The place is not easy to locate since it's in the second floor of a building. However, once you find the restaurant and get inside, you'd be amazed by it's beautiful interior. It's not as crowded as other tea shops or cafes in BGC so it's nice for hanging out. We love their affordable drinks (My personal fave is the Triple Delight that's just Php100) and their friendly staff. The food were delicious, however, some of it were not as affordable as the drinks.
They also offer FREE delivery around BGC, something we really loved since we don't have to go out the office just to get drinks. I just wish their delivery would be faster (we had to wait an hour before because the delivery man didn't have load to contact us).
Definitely Worth it!
Foods, place/ambiance, services are worth coming back.An authentic Taiwanese Cuisine in BGC. Must try!
Milk Tea's especially Triple Delight is awesome. Happy Hour promo for only 80 pesos for Milk Tea's and 70 pesos for Thicktoast..👌
I went to bgc and I saw this classy resto it's really great experience to dine here the food is awesome and it's really authentic Taiwanese cusine, drinks is very refreshing it's good to unwind with your friends. and the staff is very polite.. love to come back here.
The place 2nds used to be and if your not from the area it will be challenge for you to find it. We have the mushroom meatball soup it was a clear soup good
to start your meal and warming your tummy. The sizzling beef was good it tastes like a beef calderata only its sizzling nothing special and there was the twice boiled pork which I didn't really get why it has to be boiles twiced when it tasted bland. You have to eat with the 2 sauces. Calamansi Green tea is refreshing. Place is clean, staff are attentive.
If you are in High Street and are looking for a cheap resto, try this restaurant. Their food is tasty AND value for money.
This branch has a different vibe than the one in Makati. The one in Makati is more of a hole in the wall type while this branch looks more like a modern cafe sans the Taiwanese vibe, although I understand that it has to look more chic since it is located in High Street.
The good news is they were able to retain the quality of their food. And they didn't increase their price! Plus, they have huge servings. Although I felt like their dishes had a cloying taste towards the end.
Their Sea Foam Wintermelon Tea is still to die for! You have to order this drink every time you eat here.
The ambiance is really great and place is cozy! Instagram pic worthy! I highly recommend this place its a kid friendly place and great for family dine in, its also nice place for catching up with friends.
Food is delicious, if you wanna try something different; fresh on your tastebuds, this is the place to go. The food is authentic taiwanese. It will give you the feeling of dining in Taiwan.I highly recommend their hotpot, noodles and waffles! For the who are into milkteas this is definitely the place to go to not the mention the pour over coffee that im crazy with.
Foods flavor feel like brings me back to Taiwan, light and healthy. No msg added.
To those who haven't been to Taiwan, should come and try it out.
Space are big, good for private even or party, also good for chic chats, gonna bring my girl friends her for afteroon tea, their waffle is so fluffy inside and crispy In the outside 80% of ingredients are imported from Taiwan.
Good restaurant here, worth to try!!!
