Klassik Kare-Kare 5/5
Beef and tripe were tender and the 'sarsa' is flavorful. My husband loves karekare. So, whenever there is karekare in the restaurant's menu, it will be am automatic order. And as per my husband who tried as much karekare as he can, Abe's is his favorite as of writing. Veggies were blamched, only eggplant and strong beans. I wish they'll add bokchoy next time. The dish is also served with bagoong alamang. Their bagoong has a distinct taste compared with others we've tried.

Sinuteng Baby Squid 3/5
Baby squid in olive oil and garlic. This is a little pricey for the serving, but it was okay. Baby squids are not chewy and cooked just right.

Abe is really where good friends dine as this is a great place to take your balikbayans and foreigner friends! They offer basically your typical kapampangan/filipino fare but they also have food with spanish influence.

We were 11 in our group with 3 Germans and a single french guy. We ordered the pinakbet, Crispy tadyang, Sisig, Bulalo, Baby squid in olive oil, Mutton adobo, binukadkad na plapla and of course, the bamboo rice. Our guests really enjoyed the food and how the bamboo rice was served. All the dishes were flavorful. Texture is spot-on and the richness of the broth was really filling. Serving size is average and prices were a bit on the steep side but worth every penny.

Abe is becoming one of my go to places whenever I crave for Filipino food. The food here is pricey but worth the once in a while splurge. My favorites here are the Gising gising and The Day After. Today we tried their Pritong Baby Hito and it was really good! Service could be improved. The last time we dined here they had more attentive servers despite the restaurant being full.

We always come back here for their Sinuteng Baby Squid and Bamboo Rice. We get particularly entertained with the rythmic tapping of the bamboo before they serve the rice in it. Other dishes are also delish, such as the morcon and sinigang. The only downside is that they serve in small portions. Prices are on the steep end because only a maximum of 2 people can share in one dish.

One of the pillars for Filipino food in metro Manila. The best thing I love here is their crispy pata! Very crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. It’s a busy place because it’s really good. This is where I would go for Filipino food. Authentic and just real!

Well known restaurant for classic Filipino dishes over more than a decade.

We had Suam of Fresh Corn (good); Laing with Tinapa (excellent) and Manyamang Beef Asado (very good). Tge last is a Filipino fiesta dish of top quality beef in a lovely asado sauce.

When looking for good filipino food at the fort. Head over to Serendra and try Abe, they have been consistently serving great filipino traditional cuisine. We recommend having the following:
Knock out knuckles, sinigang na bayabas and the baby squid in olive oil. They top their crispy pata with a generous amount of fried garlic and its so crispy with tender meat inside.

Definitely one of our favorites!

It's been a while since we last dined in Abe so we decided to celebrate Valentine's Day here. We came earlier than the time we specified in our table booking but the staff happily assisted us to our reserved seats. Complementary crackers were served right after we ordered.

Crispy Shrimp Binondo are indeed crispy which makes the shell edible. However it tastes saltier than before. It's too salty that I had to take breaks before eating another shrimp. Crispy Tadyang is as good as before and the meat is tender. Their Suam of Fresh Corn soup suits almost any kind of dish. For dessert we had Halo-Halo and they are generous with the ingredients which made it creamy and tasty.

The staff were very nice and accomodating even if the restaurant was full. Serving time was 15 minutes which is pretty quick for a night with occasion. They also gave flowers to the ladies which made our stay more memorable. We definitely made the right choice to have dinner in Abe for Valentine's.

My officemates and I went here to celebrate Valentine's Day. We ordered kare-kare, crispy pata, kinilaw, pla pla, and bulalo (not pictured). The bulalo was the best bulalo I've had in my life. The service was also great, it was like they were watching my glass of water like a hawk because they would refill every time. We also requested to have the bulalo separated into small bowls already and they were kind enough to do that for us. Good food and great service!

Food preparation took too long but it’s probably because of the surge of customers. Their Humba had just the right amount of sweetness of sauce and tenderness of meat. Lengua is one of my favorite dishes and Abe’s white sauce made it better.

We decided to eat at Abe (the one located in Serendra)

According sa website nila- Abe (ah-beh) is the restaurant dedicated to Larry Cruz’ father, the late artist-writer, gourmet and bon vivant E. Aguilar “Abe” Cruz. The restaurant serves traditional Filipino food, mostly of Capampangan origin, and gourmet dishes inspired by Abe’s travels around the world. At Abe, food is prepared and served with a great deal of love while its concept and design provide the ideal setting for friends and family who wish to dine comfortably and have a good time.

I like this branch more as compared to the one in Solaire. It is quiet, relaxing and very homey.

Food and Price ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We ordered their Sinigang sa Ube. One of their special dishes. It’s pork meat and vegatables simmerred in their special purple yam broth. For P495 it was huge. It’s good for sharing and it’s a good sinigang.

I ordered their Turon A La Mode P150. It has 4 mini torons, vanilla ice cream and caramel. It was good and it was a perfect way to end a meal.

Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I don’t know if it was a busy day but I have to call their attention several times. One to order the turon, Two for water and Three for the bill. I don’t know if they were undermanned but it’s tiring to call their staff and they ignore you (drama)

5 stars sana but I really hope the service improves ✌🏻

Ordered several food items:

The Shrimp with Aligue is my fave of all.
Kinilaw's serving is very small though.
Sisig and Tilapia was okay.
The Ube sinigang is quite weird, nothing special but not really bad.
I liked the Pininyahang Manok!

For guys with a big appetite, they have unli rice here! Super busog!

I forgot what we ordered because there were too many!!! But here's what i could remember:
1) Sisig⭐️⭐️⭐️
2) Crispy Pata⭐️⭐️⭐️
3) Pako Salad ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
4) Pla pla⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
5) Gising gising⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
6) Shrimps w/ Aligue⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
7) Bamboo rice⭐️⭐️⭐️
8) Maja blanca⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
9) Leche Flan⭐️⭐️⭐️

Okay so the shrimp w/ aligue was really good. If you crave for this combo, i dont know where else you could go but to Abe. I also liked the pinaputok na pla pla. Well that's coz i love fried fish.

The average ones were rated with 3 stars coz they werent bad but you'd know that there could be better ones.

The bamboo rice was good but it was too tasty to be paired with tasty viands. I prefer to eat plain rice in this resto.

Okay for the record, i dont eat maja blanca except if im in this resto. For some reason, i dont like the taste of coconuts in desserts. But Abe was able to make me enjoy their maja 😋

Price is reasonable!

Abe has long been a favorite restaurant of the family when it comes to classic Pinoy food.

Little did I know then that Abe was conceptualized by Larry J. Cruz ( the founder of LJC Restaurants Group) in honor of his father who was born in Magalang a town at the foot of Mt. Arayat in Pampanga. Thus Abe Restaurant's focus on Kapampangan cuisine.

This September is LJC Group’s month, that’s because it was Larry J. Cruz’ birth month and to celebrate it, as a tribute, they will release two new dishes on all their 9 brands for us to try.  This celebration features the LJC Festival of Flavors, which is their annual LJC Good to Dine Campaign and also, Larry’s treat.

Let me preface this review by expressing my gratitude to the LJC Group, and Zomato for an exclusive invite to feast on some of the dishes (17 dishes in total! 😀) from all of LJC's nine food concepts, some of which are yet to be fully offered on their respective restaurant menus starting this September. 😀 As for Abe, we got to try their Klassic Tortang Talong, and their Pininyanhang Manok! The Tortang Talong was as classic as it gets! It had me looking for a garlic, or fried rice, and some banana ketchup! It was a definite Filipino staple. While the Pininyahang Manok on the other hand, turned out to be my other favorite. Its sauce was rich, and creamy, and the essence of the pineapple blends well with cream it's cooked with, which I'm unsure whether if it's dairy cream, or coconut cream, but whichever it was, it made it really, really good. Much like most of the dishes we got served with, these dishes should come served perfect with cups of rice!

Review as of August 2018

Abe is one of the classics when it comes to Filipino food and probably the only outfit I've tried from the LJC group. The decor may be a bit dated compared to the other Filipino restaurants out there but the food still ranks as one of my favorites in Manila 😊

Dishes I've tried here, recommendations are marked with a star (⭐)
- Adobung Puso ng Saging ⭐
- Laing with Tinapa
- Knockout Knuckles
- Binukadkad na Pla Pla ⭐

Food: The food was purely Filipino and I absolutely found it to be one of the best.
My favorites are the black pata, bulalo, bangus belly, and the bamboo rice. You really know what youre ordering here since there are no twists and I ended up not being disappointed by anything.

Ambiance: I love the design of the place. Its a mix of modern design with a classic spanish touch.

Price: The food was priced pretty fairly. Average relative to the restaurants around the area who serve Filipino food.

Service: We got our food really fast and the waiters were courteous. Could not complain about anything.

tried their kare kare and sisig here. they didn't disappoint. food is also proportional to the price so it's worth it. there were many people when we dined here, ambiance is kind of dark, perfect for date night also (tables have candles at the center), but if you want a restaurant with a few people, abe is not the place, you might want to pick some other restaurant, but the food here is delicious. so i guess overall it is okay.

Abe is part of the LJC Group and so far we’ve been dining at their restaurants for some time already.

We went back to dine around 2pm at Abe’s Serendra for a very late lunch. Weirdly, there was no one manning the reception area so we were left confused since no one Is available to assist us. We went in and the place was just half full since it was already late but no one was available to greet or entertain us. I tapped on a passing waiter and we were just told to wait at the side. After around 5-10 mins of waiting a lady server approached us to ask how many seats we need and we were asked again to wait since they will have to put placemats, plates and utensils on the empty tables. After another 5-10 mins, we were finally seated.

The hubby was craving sinigang na baboy sa sampaloc and monggo. I wanted suam na mais but unfortunately the suam na mais was not available.

Sinigang na baboy was ok. Lots of veggies and good serving of pork. We were a party of five and after portioning we were still left with a serving or two cups.

Monggo was P125 and I have posted the photo to give idea on the serving size. It’s just for one person in a cup.

Laing with Tinapa was good but I was still looking for the tinapa until we finished the dish. Could have been better if the tinapa was not too minced.

Humba was good but a bit salty, best to eat with rice.. lots of rice. But still good, just difficult to eat without rice.

Sisig was super super good! A bit fatty and oily and serving was in a super small sizzling plate. Spicy so it’s also very good with rice.

My mom wanted pinakbet, it was ok but we were all looking for something we cannot determine. It was not what we expected so it came out lacking for us.

Oh! And a funny story, we asked for coke zero and the server gave us red coke in can so we said that’s not coke zero and he kept on insisting that it is coke zero! He has a trainee by the way so we were very nice to him asking him to please confirm with the bar first and eventually he gave us the coke zero we wanted.

Not sure if we just came at a wrong time but the experience was just so-so for us.

It was arduous to select a wine to pair with Kare-Kare (oxtail and tripe simmered in peanut butter) and Pinakbet (stir-fried vegetables with fermented shrimp paste). My decision on trying this 2015 vintage blend of Malvasia and Chardonnay from Terri di Chieti (in Abruzzo, central Italy) yielded an acceptable result. The wine and food neither lost anything to nor gained anything from each other. It was a safe trial. However, this is, sometimes if not always, the ultimate achievement in pairing wine with Asian dishes.

If you're craving for home cooked meals, this is one of the restaurants that offers what you are looking for. You can choose from their list, but what I have tried is the following which I also recommend if you're eating for the first time:

Binukadkad na Pla Pla - super crispy fish

Sinigang sa Ube - Sinigang with a twist instead of using taro, they used violet (?) sweet potato

Dinengdeng - combination of different veggies

We've also tried their fruit shake and my favorite is the tamarind shake. It's a bit pricey, but every penny you pay is worth it.

I ate here once. And i think that is enough.
They offer Filipino favorites such as kare-kare, crispy pata and the likes. They are alright when it comes to taste, but to be frank nothing really memorable. Nothing that is good for rating anyway. The price is for family servings but the sizes are approximately for two, stingy for three. Even the rice is expensive, no bottomless drinks (i dunno now).

We waited 1.5 hours to be seated, and when we finally did, we asked for the menu and a couple glasses of water. Surprisingly, it took them about 15 minutes! Hence, I wouldn't recommend dining here on a weekend, or when this restaurant is packed.

Although, their food somehow made up to the bad experience. The Bamboo Rice is a must-try, not only because they serve it in a "unique way", but because it is really good. Also, their Ube Sinigang is sooo spectacular, and no doubt the best out there!

I'm not a big fan of eating Filipino food in restaurants, but Abe does a good job transforming the typical lutong bahay meals. It's obviously a good place to take all of your foreign guests, who are curious as to what Filipino food can be like beyond adobo and Jollibee.

I ordered the crispy shrimp Binondo, pako fern salad, both photographed, chicharon bulaklak and shrimp sautéed in kamias. The pako salad was A++... Crisp fern complemented by lots of salted egg (my fave), onions and tomatoes. I also recommend the shrimp sautéed in kamias. Who knows where Abe gets its kamias?! But it's delicious.

Out from their Old Chinatown selection, we tried this mountain rice that was steam-cooked in a bamboo shell together with shrimps, wood ear mushrooms and bamboo shoots. The way this was served was fun and unique – the waiter carrying the delight did some tap dancing performance with the main music coming from the tap tap tapping of spoons on the bamboo while serving the dish. The rice is starchy and oh so delicious that it can be consumed as a complete meal even without viands.

Best crispy pata - hands down
so meaty, flavorful and melt in your mouth.
I didn't like the dinuguan much. I like the black blood stew better - the one in Manam
Yet not so overpowering. I like subtle flavored stuff. This is really good - very well infused
I like the Fern salad, very refreshing and the ferns are very fresh - no bitter taste at all and quite crunchy.
Give it a shot. Worth a detour if you like crispy pata

Came here just for dessert - my aunt was gushing about Sikreto ni Maria Clara so I ordered that, while my friend chose to have the Turon Saba at Kalamay. We both had the chocolate drink alongside which was sooooo thick and delicious, somewhat bitter so it helped balance the sweetness of our dessert.

Service was so so. The place was not busy when we came in so I don't understand why the staff were acting a bit snooty. Maybe because we only ordered dessert. Hah. (We had dinner in a nearby restaurant.)

Whenever I have friends coming from overseas who wants to taste authentic Filipino Food, I always take them to Abe. Its Fine Kapampangan food that will trully delight ones taste buds. This is where I first tasted sauteed locusts which to my astonishment is quite good, it has a smoky taste to it that will leave you wanting more with every bite. The gising gising here is my gold standard for the dish fresh kang kong stalks drenched in creamy coconut milk with chili will trully wet your appetite. The lamb adobo is divine, soft and tender with the salty/sour flavor of adobo mixing with the sinful lamb portions. If the place has a Cafe Adriatico right beside it order the manggo cake with condensed milk it will surely cap off your meal.

I've tried almost all their dishes and I'm really impressed with the taste. Their Knockout Knuckles is my favorite! Pair it with a healthy Sinigang sa Ube and your cravings will be satisfied.

For the refreshments, I'm really in cloud nine with their Tamarind Shake. The server said the shake is made from fresh tamarinds! That explains the pure goodness it gives me everytime I visit.

Our friends took us here the first time we went and went again one other time. We had the bamboo rice which was bamboo shoot flavored rice served in a foot long bamboo casing with a drumming presentation. Other dishes we had were the lamb adobo, dinengdeng, fried adobo, and sisig. My friend thought the lamb adobo was gamey. The second time we went we had the pinakbet, sigarillas and sitao with gata and sinuteng baby squid. The baby squid had crisped garlic chips that was so good, although I didn't think they needed to be swimming in so much olive oil. I can eat two of these alone with some rice and nothing else. I went again on another trip just for the baby squid but they were out. I ordered the kinilaw na tanigue in its place and it was great.

This is one of my go-to places for balikbayans and tourist friends visiting Manila. In true Pampangueño fashion, the servings are big in size and taste.
Tips:
1. Reserve a table in advance. The restaurant is full even on a Monday night.
2. Must orders: bamboo rice (the way it is served is an event jn itself), gising-gising, adobado, lechon
The acoustics are good and despite the 'presentation of the bamboo rice' hurrah fills the room, its still easy to hear your companion.

I was able to try Abe a couple of months ago when I went on the Mega Food Tour with Anton Diaz but it was only their Lamb Adobo that I tried. This time around, I went back to try their other dishes with my sister, son, and best friend.

Abe is the Kapampangan word for friend, brother, and getting together.

We ordered the Ensaladang Mangga, Kinilaw na Tanigue, Lamb Adobo, Tidtad, Morcon, and Bamboo Rice.

I love how the bamboo rice was served. The servers do a little drumming and the other staff participates. It's actually quite a presentation. To be honest, it was the main reason why I ordered this dish and thankfully, it was very good. One serving is actually good enough for 5 people.

This Tidtad is probably the best thing that Abe serves. It's actually pork variety meat served Kapampangan style. It's sinfully delicious in the sense that this plate will make you eat 8 cups of rice.

The Kinilaw na Tanigue was also a delight. It was very fresh and the meat fish was very filling.

Lamb Adobo of Abe is as always really good. This is another dish that people who are on a diet should never order for you will break your diet. The meat is very soft and the smell is appetite inducing.

Abe is definitely a must try and a place I'd go back to again and again.

The ambiance is good. The service is average for a restaurant in BGC. The food is also good. But I've already eaten in different restaurants with Filipino cuisine and nothing seems new to me anymore in their menu. Although maybe if you go here you may try their crispy pata, lamb adobo, and bamboo rice.

We've been here a number of times, specifically in their Serendra branch, maybe because of the nice area. I won't go into further details. Basically LJC are a force to be reckoned with when it comes to food management and quality. The sinigang is ok... The baby squid, Binukadkad na pla pla, kare kare and pinakbet are all good, bamboo rice is great, service is great. I guess they have everything covered. Till next time. 😊

Abe or 'friend' (in kapampangan) is a Filipino restaurant that offers delicacies which will suit our tongues. Me and hubby decided to eat here for my birthday celebration. We tried their sisig, which was good and their Sinigang sa ube, which was one of their best sellers), and we were shocked when we knew that they have unli rice there. We want to try more foods and even their dessert (especially the Sikreto ni Maria) but we are already bloated. We'll definitely go back here to try the other foods.

Everything was good. So good that we finished the leftovers that we took to the hotel the same night. Haha! Service was kinda slow but good was worth it 👍🏻

Amazing service, and the food they serve is excellent. Rice meals are great, while some soups do not mix well with the food. Good for people who wishes to try more Filipino cuisine.

I've eaten here a few times already and I've never been disappointed. Food's good and service is great. I especially like their crispy pata, crispy on the outside and so tender on the inside. Their baby squid's taste was so-so for me but cooked nicely. I also liked their kalabasa cooked in gata, I believe it's new in their menu.

Love the rellenong alimasag and lechon. Staff are very friendly and accomodating. Perfect place to bring foreigners to try filipino dishes. The deserts are also intriguing.

The food is truly delicious! It's not typical Filipino, but more like Filipino-Spanish with bold, rich flavors. Hence, they have unli rice because the dishes simply can't be eaten without it! Best to come here as group because the servings are good for sharing and you get to try several items. Be prepared to wait for a table as it's usually packed. It's a bit difficult to talk with your companions though because there's just too much buzz given the number of people inside the restaurant. Leave room for dessert, especially Sikreto ni Maria!

Celebrated my birthday here as I was craving for good Filipino food. The food choices are the usual Filipino foods, but the difference is that they taste better than those that I have already tried out. Real good value for money!

Abe is a nice restaurant to go to with family and friends. They offer a lot of nice Filipino dishes that simply taste awesome! I am a fan of their Pastel De Lengua, Humba and Klassik Kare Kare. My family and I always enjoy our meals here as service is equally good too!

I like the look and feel of Abe Restaurant. Nice interiors and a bit on the elegant yet homey side of things. Love their Ube Sinigang dish which is something different but really tastes good! Once of the nice Filipino dishes available at this restaurant that is certainly a must try.

Our high school barkada's special place every time we meet to catch up.  The place has a homey feel and the food is very Pinoy, just like the food at our own homes.
