very cozy japanese place with good food and good service
Who wants some Valentine’s roll? You’ll love @izakayasensuph ‘s Valentine treat—Spicy tuna, avocado and blue fin marinated in sake and soy sauce. ❤️❤️❤️ #SayItWithLoveSayItWithRaintree
Super late post— Visited Izakaya to try their Valentines promo. For only P1250 you can avail it their Valentines dinner for 2. So sulit!
You + your plus one will get otoshi appetizer plus mini sakura smile cocktail, ton shabu salad, yakimeshi rice with miso soup and miso caramel cake
You can choose between sashimi omakase or their valentines roll and for the mains you can choose between US Beef steak katsu or tempura
We enjoyed the experience! The food was good— i particularly like the steak katsu and the valentines roll.
Service was great, everyone was so nice and helpful and the ambience was perfect for the love month.
Special thanks to Mela for the invite

Was lucky to get a sneak peek of the Valentine’s Dinner Set for 2 before they launch it on Feb 13 until 16. It’s a great deal for only ₱1,250++ you get 2 small cocktails and 2 mini appetizers as starters, a choice of assorted sashimi or a Valentine’s roll for your first course, a salad and a main course of your choice (assorted tempura or beef katsu) for sharing together with a big plate of Japanese fried rice (aka Yakimeshi) plus 2 cups of miso soup. And we’re not done yet, you get a delightful sweet ending too with their Miso Caramel Chocolate Cake.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Sashimi Omakase 3 especially the thick cut fresh Salmon. While the Valentine’s roll was too cute to eat as they shaped the rolls into hearts, so apt for the occasion.
The assorted Tempura was enjoyable as the batter was just right, not too thick and perfectly crisp. Superrrr perfect with the Japanese Fried Rice which my date & I both loved! And such a steal even if you order it a la carte because it can probably feed 3-4 people.
The dessert gets a two thumbs up from us - the chocolate cake was moist (especially if you let it sit for awhile since I think they serve it cold from the chiller). The miso caramel and chocolate icing/ filling complement the cake making each bite or spoonful sinfully delicious.
And if you plan to skip the set and order a la carte instead and you’ve got Zomato Gold, you can use it here too for more value for your money! I like their sashimi and sushi rolls.
Very affordable. Love the steak and pasta dish.
staffs are very accommodating. not hard for to tell them the zomato 1+1 food. i like the broiled salmon but the beef katsu and roll are so so. ☺️
I just tried their Chicken Teriyaki for take out bento for a quick filling fix. Chicken meat is so tender that compliments the teriyaki sauce. A bit pricey for 320 php with small portion of meat, egg and veggies. But who says Japanese bento is not good? No one. If only I can eat this everyday.
The place is nice and cozy, server are friendly. Food is very very good. Sushi and sashimi all served fresh. Love the presentation as well...
Good service, delicious food and nice ambience
The place is at the heart of the business center of BGC. Before going here, note that they close midday at around 2:30.. The waitress and waiters were polite. We had two Zomato Gold and saw ourselves having a Maki festival. Food was great, but could be better, yet overall, a good place to eat.
Loved the food, ambiance and the crew. ❤
Dynamite Roll was on Point! 🤙
Tip: Happy Hour is available from 2pm-6pm onwards for the cocktail drinks 🥂
we used the Zomato Gold 1+1, for the Wagyu Beef. 🥩
Great food! Price-wise, it's okay, you get quality food for a standard price. Was honestly so surprised with the Yakimeshi, it was the highlight of the night!
One of the most sulit Jap restos ever! Loved their rolls and tamago tempura! Great food + great service + great price. Will def go back to this place!
Good Japanese dishes. With Zomato Gold, excellent value for money. The only dish we didn't like was the Beef Katsu. The beef was cooked almost rare, and the meat wasn't tender. It ended up very gummy and couldn't be eaten in one bite, both because of the size of the slice and of the difficulty to chew it.
All other dishes were great.
This is a mininalist Japanese restaurant. I tried their sushi, the Dynamite was my favorite, it has the right level of spiciness and different flavors bursting in ur mouth. The other ones were okay, Crazy Roll is good too. Staff are polite and the food didn't take long to be served.
We used zomato gold. Great addition of restos in the area. Great for after a hard day of adulting.I would rate the Food with 4/5. Dessert 2/5
It was our first time trying out this restaurant. The ambiance was nice. They have good sushi - although some of the fish weren’t available. Forgot to get the name of one of the wait staff, but he was super friendly and very fast to accomodate our needs.
The place was great. The staff were recommending us their best food choices which were all delicious. I wouldn't mind being back to this place.
It was my first time here and man oh man, I am definitely coming back. Excellent value for money considering its BGC location. Chicken nanban was so good. Their chirashi was prepared differently but the taste was still the traditional one. Servers were so friendly also and that matters to customers like me.
Unique japanese dishes
All were so good!
Dish ordered without photo - uni rice with pour over soup
Total bill p530 for 2 pax
Gold exclusions: not applicable to bento and set meals
We always enjoyed our dining experience here. Good food and good value for money. We will definitely go back here. I hope they add more branches.
Great service! Food was good. For Zomato Gold, price is great! Had super fun at the al fresco dining area. Fun Thursdays Happy Hour all
day! Happy!
Absolutely one of my favorite Japanese restaurant. Izakay Sensu is back to back with Choto Matte but I prefer to dine and enjoy my time here. The menu is very big, lots of selection to choose from. I recommend their Aburi Salmon Roll and Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Roll. As for drinks, I'm always ordering their Sakura Smile. Serving size of each dish is just right for its price. The ambiance of the place is just right and servers are very friendly, service is excellent too.
My boss and I had lunch here today... Staff service very accomodating and helpful with gold zomato users like me, my rate is 5 also... Tempura - my rate is 5 crunchy and light batter, Dynamite maki my rate is 5 not too spicy, Crazy roll my rate is 4 because of the mayo, medyo naumay ako... Fried rice my rate is 5 also... Happy tummy be back soon
Ambiance and customer service is superb and commendable.
Love the sensu roll. Thick slice of the tuna sashimi. And love the octopus sashimi.
Would love to try visiting to have drinks.
Food was great! All of their staff were polite and helpful. Atmosphere was relaxed. Perfect way to end a stressful day.
I would recommend their bbq plates and rice bowls.
The sushi rolls and tonkatsu were great. The beef tonkatsu the side salad tastes a little bit dry and dull.
The staffs who attended during our dining experience were helpful and patient with our queries.
Honestly quite pricey but you get what you pay for. The quality of the ingredients that they use is high end so you know the prices are (sorta) justified. The waiters were so nice and friendly and the ambience was perfect for a night’s catch up with friends. The beef gyudon was sooo good and tender, a must try!
Light Dinner with friends. Loved the Salmon Maki.
Less stars on service. I understand it is a busy time and a Friday but when you serve food you should provide cutlery(chopsticks). It took a while before we got our chopsticks.
Was happy with their Smoke Salmon with Cream Cheese though it was too salty when you dip it in soy sauce and wasabi. The Tomato based Soba was so-so.
Wagyu and Toro were not available during our visit, which is a bit disappointing. We ordered the non-wagyu yakitori set and the Aburi Uni Maki. The waitress recommended that we try the dynamite roll. The yakitori set is so good and worth the price (around 300?) !!! Uni aburi is good also but the dynamite roll is not worth recommending. I should’ve gone for the chirashi bowl instead. We had the 1+1 sakura smile at happy hour, which is just OK.
No words! My favorite sushi place here in Manila ♥️ They have super yummy sushi! They have the best chef, so approachable, they really do their best to make customers happy:) You will never go wrong with this restaurant when it comes to their sushi. Worth it!
Would really want to commend Chef Max and Franz. (I hope I got their name right)
We ordered:
Salmon Roll
Tuna roll
Dynamite roll
Edi tempura
I love their sushi and maki! We also tried the Wagyu salad, they changed the wagyu beef though to other meat but still fine with us. It was just okay.
Tasty and great sushi around net park. Its a bit pricey but somehow reasonable for the plating. Looking forward for the my next dine and try new sushi in there menu. Zomato gold is valid for all of the sushi except for one that is for sharing.
4.5/5 for sushi but 3/5 on odon. 4/5 for the ambiance.
Warning: Don't come here with a full stomach!
We ordered Curry Soba, Ramen, Crispy Beef and sushi... The sushi was really amazing, however, it is incomparable to sushi from Japan because of its freshness, the beef was on the rare side and was cut too thick for our liking.
The curry has a mild spice to it with sauce that is very rich. The noodles itself is firm which I prefer.
As for the warning, all four dishes for 2 pax is too much for us since we're a bit full coming from lunch. I recommend you to go for tea after eating dinner here.
Izakaya Sensu shares the same place as Chotto Matte. This Japanese restaurant is a must-visit for modern and not crowded place to dine.
I love their "Masu" which is a small chirashi box that is unexpectedly filling. The tuna and uni were fresh; rice-sashimi ratio is proportional as well. I asked the server for some japanese mayo, togarashi and some tempura batter (to make my own spicy tuna sashimi) and they happily obliged.
Also tried their sukiyaki and it was good enough for 2 famished persons, great flavor and a nice bite to the udon noodles. The servers also cook the sukiyaki for you (on your table), so no hassle there.
Food is delicious but the serving is quite small for the price. I enjoyed my experience mainly because of Zomato Gold’s complimentary dishes but without it, I may have spent a lot more money just to get a variety of dishes. The staff and manager were friendly and accommodating. Ambience is also good. It’s a nice place to just eat, talk and unwind.
A combination of good food and creative presentation, that’s the valentine roll of Izakaya Senzu. These heart shape rolls are served with 2 glasses of wine. For Php395 only I bet you it’s a sure winner for you and your valentine’s date.
📍Location: Net Park, 5th ave., BGC, Taguig City
Its a whole month of Love celebration at Izakaya Sensu and Chotto Matte both located at Net Park building at 5th Ave in BGC.
Enjoy unwinding with your significant other with their adorable heart-shaped Valentine roll and a glass of wine for P395 until Feb 28...
Definitely no complaints about this restaurant. While there are better places that serve high-quality Japanese food, Izakaya Sensu does a pretty good job with theirs.
The uni and salmon sashimi were both refreshing. Their rolled sushi, while not oustanding, was also okay. The more remarkable plate for me, though, was their Butabara Enoki; both the mushrooms and the thinly sliced pork were perfectly cooked and when paired made a really flavorful bite.
This is located in Net Park, BGC. The restaurant's wooden theme/interiors, furnitures, and walls remind me of the traditional Japanese restaurants. It shares the same building with Chotto Matte and cross ordering is allowed.
They are notable for their sushis, rolls, maki, etc. Aside from that, they also offer cocktails, refreshing drinks, etc which you can also get from Chotto Matte.
This definitely is a premium Japanese resto, with only the freshest and best ingredients used in their dishes. It mixes both modern and traditional Japanese cuisine, which is also reflected in its ambience and furnishings. I want to rate it higher but it's a bit on the expensive side when it comes to pricing. Quality, however, is guaranteed.
First restaurant I tried after availing zomato gold. Food was really fresh & good! Got their fried rice, bowl, and gyu-katsu. All were great! Pinakasulit yung bowl dahil malaman siya di puro kanin :)
We dined-in here for a small "girls only" dinner out. We loved the Sensu Roll, Aonori Dashimaki, Wagyu Miso Sukiyaki and the Norweigan Salmon Nabe (sooo goood!). Also a hit was their happy hour drinks! We will go back just for that. The wasabi dashimaki was a miss though (not even a hint of wasabi...its just like the first dashimaki we ordered). Also, we had to transfer table twice as there was a water dripping from the ceiling...the staff said it was from the aircon (and i'm like "so...is that an okay thing?"). Service was so-so, the staff were sometimes attentive and sometimes they pretend not to see us (the restaurant wasn't that full, around only 10 customers only when we dined in)
Had the Uni Maguro, Salmon Sashimi, and 2 wagyu dishes.
The wagyu was delicious, and with Gold the second set is free. The plate is ice cold so people who don't like cold meat should take note.
Service is great and had no issues.
Izakaya Sensu is just one of the many restaurants that sprouted in Bonifacio Global City in the recent years. My office girlfriends and I finally had the chance to give it a try a few weeks ago. We initially planned to go to Mendokoro Ramenba, but the place was already packed despite being there before 11:30AM. We walked along the area without any idea where our feet would lead us until we finally spotted Izakaya Sensu. I saw a large group of Japanese diners inside which is probably one of the reasons we got convinced to give it a go. I Googled Izakaya Sensu as soon as we got our seats. I then found out that it’s part of Raintree Restaurants, the same company behind Saboten, Stella, Rocket Room, Terraz Bistro & Meetings and Friends & Family. Why does Raintree keep on emptying my wallet?! Hahaha!
Izakaya Sensu was our third stop for the Raintree Restaurants Foodcrawl. Thanks EJ B for the invite. ♥️
The strong Japanese vibe of Izakaya Sensu makes it a go-to place if you want to have a taste of Japan in the busy street of Net Park, BGC. This restaurant is a dual concept of Chotto Matte where both caters good Japanese cuisine and alcoholic beverages. Alongside with other Raintree Restaurants, Izakaya Sensu tied up with Action Againsts Hunger to provide a portion that will be donated to Restaurants Against Hunger to fight againsts child malnutrition in the Philippines. So every solidarity dishes that you order, it will go to the said foundation. For this restaurant, their dish is Fruit Jelly. Aside from that, I also got to try their Sakura Smile drink. It's an alcoholic beverage with a strong kick of vodka.
I can't wait to come back to try other dishes, most especially their line of fresh sushis! 🍣
Izakaya Sensu is a very remarkable restaurant to me! Its ambience is stunning! Modern Japanese style! When we got there, the restaurant was clean and organized. Staff are really friendly! For their dishes, I loved their Butadon! It comes with a miso soup and fruit jelly already. Their dynamite rolls was really a WOW for me! This is the dish that I personally enjoyed! I also loved their spicy tuna sashimi! Its spiciness will absolutely fight for you! I am reallya spicy eater that’s why I enjoyed it. By the way, that dish is not in the menu, but you may ask the servers about it! Overall, it was awesome! Will defenitely come back! ❤️
Although a bit pricey, Izakaya Sensu will surely give you the value you deserve. Every dish served is guaranteed freshly made and of top quality.
The place looks modern but needs a little more ventilation.
Servers are relatively friendly and fast.
Place is just a few steps away from the parking lot (Fort Strip).
They seem to have the most comprehensive menu I’ve ever seen in a Japanese Restaurant.
Here’s my top picks:
-U.S. Beef Gyudon-
Thin beef slices served on top of warm rice with some chives on top. It comes with a sweet sauce that adds the needed moisture to the dish. It binds everything well so don’t hesitate to try it with the sauce.
-Katsudon-
Perfectly cooked pork with very very light sauce and warm rice. Very simple yet tasty and filling. It’s that dish you’d really appreciate on a warm, gloomy day.
-Miso Chocolate Cake-
I really find Japanese desserts weird and intimidating but whenever forced to try some, it would always surprise me with weird and indescribable but delicious taste. Who would have thought miso can be used in cake, diba?
Though I’m not a fan of shabu-shabu, I can say that their version is one of those on top of my list. It’s uncomplicated and unlimited 😂.
SHABU-SHABU ALL YOU CAN EAT
Unlimited pork belly, vegetables, enoki mushroom, tofu, noodles, and salted ginger-flavored broth for PHP 595 is so worth it! My shabu-shabu experience here was very enjoyable. I really liked their broth which was really tasty! The meat and vegetables were so fresh and of great quality! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Rest assured, I’m going back to have my shabu shabu fix again!
DONBURI ALL DAY
I was able to taste some of Izakaya Sensu’s Donburi All Day meals too namely- Katsudon, Chicken Currydon, Tendon,Butadon, and Wagyu Gyudon. All are reasonably priced given their quality. My favorites are Wagyu Gyudon, Butadon, and the Katsudon! Wagyu Gyudon comes with a sauce which adds flavor to it! All these meals come with fruit jelly, miso soup, and pickled! Yummy!
We ordered ton shabu salad, uni and maguro, and beef katsu (forgot the exact name in the menu).
I loved everything that we ordered. The salad was good, the uni was soooo good, and the beef katsu was perfectly cooked.
Since my condo in BGC is near High Street, i never really went farther from that place to eat. Now i know that when i crave for Japanese, i should go here. I am definitely going back to try other items in the menu. I just love it.
The downside though is that it can be quite expensive. But if you think it’s okay to splurge once in a while, then go here :)
They also have a good stash of liquor. :)
I really enjoyed dining here. The staff were very courteous to me and we didn't have a problem getting seated. It wasn't too busy for a Friday night, which was surprising. We ordered 3 different types of sushi rolls (which were all excellent!), some pork katsu, tamago and yakitori. They did not have any unagi for the tamago rolls, neither did they have any gyoza?!
It was a pleasant dining experience for me. Although I hope for them to be better stocked next time.
Ended up here after being led from Chotto Matte.
The first table we were at was under a leak so we moved to a neighboring table.
The menu had quite a few interesting items like the unagi maki (eel in an egg roll) and pork wrapped egg. The food was nice. Enjoyed the crab fried rice and the bacon wrapped quail egg skewer. They also had a watermelon wasabi drink but I found that the wasabi was way too strong so it wasn't as enjoyable or refreshing.
Nice place for dinner but it was quite pricey though.
It was a great place to celebrate my birthday. Their rolls are really good. Their servings are big so get ready to do some sharing. I really enjoyed their sashimi platters. The seafood had a nice and clean fresh taste. It was a bit pricey but I will surely come back.
Probably the best sushi and sashimi I had in PH!
Ambience is great! Not crowded. Everything’s clean. CR Is clean. They provide damped towels which smell good.
Attentive staff. Our tea cups were always filled up. You don’t need to approach them, it was automatic :D
Generous serving!!! Everything is fresh. They also agreed on our request to have one type of sashimi to be cooked. It tasted better when fried btw.
We’ll be coming back!!!
Food - 3.5
Ambiance - 4
Service - 4
What we ordered:
- kurobuta Curry Udon: this is my friend's order and he liked it. I tried the curryy soup and it was good.
- Goma Chazuke: porridge topped with white meat fish, this was my order and sadly I did not like this dish. Not sure if I ate it correctly or I'm just not used to Japanese porridge. I poured the liquid to the rice bowl and it's like I'm eating rice and liquid. I was expecting a similar consistency with congee. It also did not have any flavor aside from the sesame seeds I added in the porridge.
- Aburi Salmon Roll: I like the smoked salmon! The cream cheese and Avocado adds a nice texture and flavor to the roll and makes this dish heavy.
Everything we ordered were around 400 each but because I didn't liked my order I didn't think that it was worth it. I can go here again to try their other dishes.

Izakaya Sensu brings our local eels to the spotlight with a limited run of their Unagi Festival. I happen to love teriyaki glazed unagi over hot Japanese rice. I’ve never had it any other way, never wondered if I could have it any other way, and I was happy to see that Izakaya Sensu had 8 signature specials for us to try.
There’s a subtle difference with each dish we tried. Your favorite will probably depend on what you like pairing your protein with.
—————
Here’s what we had:
Uzaku. 350.00
Unagi & Vinegared Cucumber Salad
It’s a small dish for you to sample their unagi. More like an appetizer. I liked the contrast of the sour vinegar with the grilled eel.
Unagi Shira-Yaki. 650.00
Grilled Unagi with Wasabi & Soy Sauce
Love how simple this dish is. Just grilled eel with a helping of wasabi to balance out the fatty fish.
Unagi Chawammushi. 220.00
Japanese Steamed Egg Custard with Unagi
Loved this! Well I love egg custard so this was a given favorite. The custard was very creamy. Must to eat this with wasabi.
Unagi Bo-Sushi. 425.00
Pressed Sushi Topped with Unagi
A smaller, bite-sized version of the una-don.
Kurikara 80.00/piece
Grilled Stick Unagi with Teriyaki Sauce &/or “Sansho - Japanese Pepper” Miso Sauce
Loved this. Pretty good barbeque that they skewered to look like a dragon. I liked the charred parts.
Umaki. 400.00
Japanese Omelette Wrapped Unagi
Very light omelette. Like breakfast in every bite.
Unagi Tempura. 620.00
Deep-fried Battered Unagi & Okra
Loved this. Batter was light and it gave the unagi an added texture. I even enjoyed the okra as it wasn’t slimy.
Una-Don. 620.00
A Bowl of Rice topped with Unagi
The way Im used to it. However, they said it is a must to add the Sansho pepper to it and I think I am going to have it this way all the time. The sansho has a lemony flavor but gives produces a weird tingly sensation on your tongue. (Tip: We also tried it with the sake and we liked it.”)
Hot Matcha Tea Latte.
Yum! I usually like mine cold but veered away from my usual as everyone wanted their cold. Hit the jackpot with this one as the hot is way better than the cold one, which needs more matcha and cream for me.
—————
It’s great to know that they use local fresh water unagi. Less carbon footprint, supporting local fishermen too. I had maybe 2 dishes where the eel was a bit muddy, though the others didn't experience it.
While the dishes can be ordered ala carte, they should have a degustation of the unagi festival too to allow one to try all the dishes. I loved how they were able to give us small portions of everything.
Unagi Festival ends this October.
#TeamKaladkarin
I am so happy to be talking about my favorite Japanese food, Unagi. (The state of total awareness! Hahaha Only a true fan of the FRIENDS TV show will get that. And if you do, I love you already!) If you know me well, I can eat this freshwater eel any day! And I am happy I was invited to join Raintree Restraurants' launch of the Unagi Festival in Izakaya Sensu / Chotto Matte in Net Park, BGC last August 26, 2017 along with some members of Team Kaladkarin and other foodies. It was so nice to be in the same place as other people with the same love for food! ❤️
Let me just put it out there, ok. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED EVERYTHING! Let’s run down the unagi items and get to know them one by one! 😻
1.) Uzaku PHP 350 (Unagi & Vinegared Cucumber Salad)
This was a very light starter for a salad. Rich and slightly sweet because of the piece of unagi, balanced out with the sour based salad, it was a very refreshing take on a salad. It’s also a very pretty bowl with all the colors in that bowl.
2.) Kurikara PHP 80 per stick (Grilled Stick Unagi with Teriyaki Sauce & “Sansho - Japanese Pepper” Miso Sauce)
This was my favorite from all the unagi dishes served to us. Both sauces went so well with the freshwater eel, although I liked the Miso sauce better by a hair. They were tender and grilled to a wonderful texture. It was sweet, savory, and a tad spicy with the sauce. I loved it!
3.) Unagi Shira-Yaki PHP 650 (Grilled Unagi with Wasabi & Soy Sauce)
Simple yet delicious, this is how unagi is best enjoyed with your cocktail. This humble looking dish is perfectly cooked and just fantastic.
4.) Umaki PHP 400 (Japanese Omelette Wrapped Unagi)
If you’re a fan of Tamago, then this is the dish for you. It was like the best of both worlds. My favorite unagi, wrapped inside a wonderful layer of Japanese egg omelette. It was kind of sweet and salty and well balanced with the different flavors. I really liked it!
5.) Unagi Chawan Mushi PHP 220 (Japanese Steamed Egg Custard with Unagi)
I remember took a basic Japanese cuisine class and we made this dish. Definitely not the easiest to make, this savory custard is very tasty and light. The unagi went so well with the smooth custard and gave it a richer flavor. It was amazing!
6.) Unagi Tempura PHP 620 (Deep-fried Battered Unagi & Okra)
This was my second favorite of the unagi roster of recipes. Their tempura batter had a wonderful texture, light yet still crispy. It was not at all oily, not cloying and just a tad crunchy. The eel was still soft on the inside, a wonderful contrast to the crispy breading of the tempura. With the okra, it was absolutely divine!
7.) Unagi Bo-Sushi PHP 425 (Pressed Sushi Topped with Unagi)
This was such a pretty array of sushi! They use a mold which is why it was very well portioned and made. The colors were lovely with the nice and subtle caramelization of the eel from grilling, the thin layer of unagi sauce and wasabi on top was a bite-size explosion of flavors. I absolutely love it!
8.) Una-Don PHP 620 (A Bowl of Rice topped with Unagi)
This is probably the one most Filipinos would appreciate since it comes with rice. This bowl is very filling and hearty and very delicious. I liked that they only use the sticky Japanese rice which is absolutely delicious with the generous slab of unagi on top. I can have this everyday!
They only use locally-sourced Live Fresh Unagi, and it manifests well on their dishes because there’s not a hint of “lansa” on them. I was very happy and impressed! It was such a nice experience to see a live demo of how to fillet an eel too! It was an absolutely exhilarating sight and I was so honored to have been invited to witness it too.
It’s always a good time with Team Kaladkarin! Thank you, Raintree for the invitation! I can’t wait to come back for more! Do visit Izakaya Sensu and celebrate with their Unagi Festival until the end of October 2017! 😻
***Note: This was a sponsored event of Izakaya Sensu. All food items have been chosen by the restaurant based on their own discretion.

The unagi festival is Japan's summer tradition wherein people indulge in delectable eel dishes. Now I haven't had this fish yet (ever!) and I haven't been to Japan either, but it's the one country I've been dreaming about visiting because of the unique and mouth-watering food they offer. Yes, we may have those here, but they say that no one can prepare these food items the way the Japanese do.
When we talk about Japanese food, we always think of sushi, tempura, ramen, etc. However, the Japanese also enjoy eating eel; a fish that is commonly found in Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, and Vietnam and even here in the Philippines. The end of July (which marks the start of the summer season in Japan) is the beginning of the Unagi or Eel Festival. This has been a tradition that started during the Edo period when the Japanese people would eat eel during the hot summer months in order to regain energy and stamina. Join us, as we feature this unique celebration as Izakaya Sensu in BGC Taguig launches their new Unagi Festival inspired dishes.

In this post: Uzaku, Kurikara, Unagi Shira-Yaki, Umaki, Unagi Chawan Mushi, Unagi Tempura, Unagi Bo-Sushi, Una-Don, Fruity Jelly, Matcha Ice Cream, Matcha Chocolate Latte (hot and cold)
For a limited time only starting this August 2017, Izakaya Sensu lets you celebrate the Unagi Festival without the need to go to Japan! Izakaya Sensu lies in one of the "Net" buildings in Bonifacio Global City -- particularly, the Net Park Building. The restaurant captures a modern oriental vibe with its wooden tables and chairs, blue accents, and light fixtures. The place can accommodate around 50 customers, though it is connected to Chotto Matte, where, I guess, overflow customers can go.
yum! from the start to their end offerings - and i thought they were a diff establishment from CHOTTO MATTE, they're the same, just have a diff entrance. because their ala carte menu did not serve rice, fajah and i opted for the bentos; because rice is life! the miso soup was superb because it was a lil concentrated (less tofu and wakame - w/c i prefer) and piping hot when served w/c most jap restos take for granted. the sashimi bento comes w/ blue fin tuna, salmon and squid sashimi while the tempura bento serves prawn, whiting fish, squid, squash, potato and edamame. presented in the bento are the jap rice, beef daikon, dried stewed seaweed, pickled salmon skin, chicken terrine, tamago plus a fruit jelly. each 'ornament' i put on my mouth was just a gleam of wonder and OmNomNom all throughout 'til i finished my meal. had the bento served more rice, it could've been a 5rate.

Given that I've never had a disappointing experience with The Raintree Group of Restaurants, I was excited to try their new Japanese restaurant, Izakaya Sensu, which is located at Net Park at Bonifacio Global City. . Izakaya Sensu's menu features a wide range of Classic Japanese dishes, as well as some items that were innovated to keep up with the times, without losing its sense of tradition.
We decided to eat here because my friend loves Japanese and its her birthday.
The restaurant was nice, it is well lit and it smells nice. The staff was really helpful and all smiles.
The food, well its 50-50 for us. What we like are the Aburi Uni Roll, which is in the board special, and the Japanese fried rice. Both was really nice, prepared/cooked/seasoned really well. And their house tea was really good. 👍🏻
What we don't like is the Tempura platter (we mentioned this to the staff) its seems that the oil they used is old. It taste funny and definitely not worth the 475pesos. The Yakitori Omakase 7, we only like the Enoki Mushroom, Cherry tomato and Garlic with Chicken Skin. The other sticks didn't excite us. 😞
After dinner, I asked my friend if she will come back, she said probably not. And just to note we ended up getting some ice cream elsewhere so that we can end the night with a smile.
We decided to order the Sensu Roll (P575) and two orders of Salmon Skin Rolls (P160) for sharing and just add whatever we wanted for ourselves. I decided to get the Sensu Kawari Kusi 5 (P195).
The Sensu Roll consists of twelve rolls. 6 rolls of tempura asparagus & spicy mayonnaise topped with spicy tuna, green chili and unagi sauce. Then 6 rolls of crabmeat mayonnaise, yuzu skin & cucumber topped with mango, flying fish roe & unagi sauce. I was only able to taste the crabmeat roll since I'm allergic to shrimp. It was good. I'm really not a big fan of sushi but I really liked it.
The salmon skin rolls were good too! But my favorite were the chicken breasts! They were really good!!! ❤️ They were really flavorful and not dry at all. One was with Cheese, one was with Pink Cod Roe & Mayonnaise, one was with Wasabi, one was with Japanese Plum & Shiso Leaf then one was with Sichimi Chili Mayonnaise. I loved all of them but the two that stood out were the Pink Cod Roe & Chili! 👌🏻
Overall, it was a great experience. I will definitely come back. 👍🏻

---unagi fest----
Izakaya Sensu once again brings tradition of Japan here in the Philippines. We are so lucky to have them because at least for those who has not been to Japan can now experience authentic Japanese food and tradition. Every July 25, Japan celebrates its Unagi or Eel fest. It's a one day event but Sensu extends the "eel festivity" upro three months.
📌 Uzaku @350PhP
Starting up with a salad, this is eel with vinegared cucumber. It's light and refreshing.
📌😍 Kurikara @50 per stick
I love how hearty these unagis are. This one's grilled. You could choose to either glaze it with miso or teriyaki sauce. I like the teriyaki sauce better because it's sweet.
📌 Unagi Shira-yaki @650PhP
If you want to try just the grilled protein, this one's recommended. It's best to pair it with a pinch of wasabi. It blends with the fat portion of the eel.
📌 Umaki @400PhP
You want tamago? Get this! Though the portion of the unagi maybe small, the egg is tasty enough.
📌😍 Unagi Chawammushi @220PhP
I love this Japanese steamed egg custard! The unagi sitting pretty on top of the dish. Add wasabi to enhance the unagi taste.
📌😍 Unagi Tempura @620PhP
Best tempura that i have tasted! Double crunchiness of the batter and the unagi. It also got some yasai (veggie) tempura.
📌😍 Unagi Bo- Sushi @425PhP
After having sake, these cute rectangular rice buri is recommended. Of course the unagi with wasabi adds to the exciting taste of the sweet rice.
📌😍 Una Don @620 PhP
This is quite a no brainer order, but do order this because it got a special teriyaki sauce just made for the unagi. THEN sprinkle on some SANSHO or Japanese pepper to create a euphoric sensation in the mouth that magnifies the unagi taste.
IMHO unagi closely resembles to our milkfish, but definitely worth the try because unagi are richer in taste because of the fat portions.
Pricey? But it's REASONABLE. No other restaurant can prepare Unagi dishes like Sensu does-- they're a pro on this.
What are you waiting for? If you aren't a fan of unagi, this is an opportunity to learn how to eat unagi. Unagi fest is only until September 2017.
