Cupcakes by Sonja is the first store that sold cupcakes exclusively. Now, they have extended their menu to cakes, doughnuts and beverages.
We visited their branch in BGC, their place is really cute. It’s like those stores that you see in old movies. I specifically like their window shed. They have a couple of tables and chairs outside, then a counter with stools inside. Their walls were painted red and white then they have a display of their scrumptious cupcakes. I ordered their choco cream pie. It has three layers, an oreo cookie crust followed by silky chocolate mousse and then topped with pillowy whipped cream and a sprinkle of oreo bits. It’s bigger than the ordinary cupcake and they were generous on the fillings as well. The combination of crispy crust, dense chocolatey filling, and fluffy cream garnish was really good.

It was another lazy afternoon and I thought of eating something sweet. So I went out, stroll a little then I saw this shop once again and it has been a while since I've had their famous cupcakes and their complementary drinks. As I entered, the staffs are all smiling at me and I really felt very welcome (maybe because I was the only dine-in customer that time). The space inside is still quite small for me but they are tables and chairs outside to accomodate more customers. From their menu, I chose to try their cakes this time and it satisfied me being a sweet tooth person. I chose the rainbow cake slice with the cafe latte. The cake is moist, delicate and of course colorful. I really can say that cake and coffee blends with each other.

Yes yes yes! I love this place and their cupcakes. The red velvet rocks and the banana monkey cupcake is excellent! I also love the flourless chocolate cake. The cupcakes here are not as sweet and not as rich as M bakery. ❤️
How I missed Cupcakes by Sonja! I think it's been a year since I ever had a cupcake/cake from them. Glad that Ms. Gel agreed on this to be our breakfast!
She ordered a reversed salted caramel cake slice & cappuccino, while I ordered a rainbow cake slice & hot chocolate. Both of the cakes are freshly baked plus chilled and scrumptious! I liked my hot pairing very muchhh. Ms. Gel even took out a red velvet cupcake since she missed it so much too. They also have pride cupcakes still available for this month!

A friend and I suddenly found ourselves with some time on our hands while in Serendra yesterday morning, so we decided to break our fast at Cupcakes by Sonja. This store was Manila’s first ever cupcake store, opened by Sonja Ocampo to bring the cupcake experiences she had in New York to our shores.
Had my first taste of red velvet goodness because of Cupcakes By Sonja and I will never forget the happiness I felt when I had that first bite!
Their cupcake is sooooo good! The only flavor I’ve tried is the red velvet. It is filling. Not too sweet with a good dollop of cream cheese frosting! I’ll definitely come back to try out other flavors.
Btw, when we got there, only a few flavors were on display. Maybe it’s because around 7pm. I am not sure if they are already sold out at that time.

Peppermint Fudge Cupcake was good, very minty topping. Supreme Chocolate Salted Caramel Cake is excellent. Rich, moist chocolate cake with lovely salted caramel. Gives a wonderful sweet and salty taste
Extreme love for cupcakes? Well, if you want to be safe with the taste, this place is a go to.
I think they can improve on the place to make it more relaxing for anyone to stay. The cupcakes were superb, i have no words but delightful 🤲

Salted Caramel - I love butter, caramel and flavours, whether in desserts or savory foods, where saltiness and sweetness are present. This is a perfect little delight of a cupcake that never fails to make me smile.
Peanut Butter Nutella - waaahhhh! Nuff said, peanut butter + Nutella, heaven!
I cannot choose between them which I like best but all I can say is eating both of them simultaneously was a great idea! Both cupcakes are complementary to each other.
I couldn't really say though that I'm truly fine today. Deckard brought home these cupcakes because he knows what I'm going through right now. Another one in my side of the family has moved on. It's starting to look like a cosmic joke or a tragedy. Probably if I were younger I'd start questioning my faith in God. But I choose to believe still that there is a purpose for everything, that nothing happens in God's world by mistake.
I choose to be grateful. These women whom I love so much, they have taught me many things. There is sorrow but I know they'd want me to keep going. So I take a bite of my cupcake and remember all the sweet memories I have of them.

If you are craving for something sweet or tart, Sonja offers delicious cupcakes to suit that sweet tooth and craving of yours.
Flavors range from Chocolate, Peppermint, Peanut Butter - and the list goes on.
I personally like the Lemon Drop cupcake, simply because I was not a fan of the red velvet craze that was sweeping the metro by storm, and I wanted to roll the dice.
The frosting had the right mix of tart + sweet. The cake was soft and it almost melted in my mouth as I took bites from it. The textures from both were amazingly blending and complementing each other.
My world stopped for 2 seconds and then it returned back to normal. Literally, it happened! It was worth the "hype" at the time.
The only drawback - it will set you back by 100 bucks on the average - and I personally feel that you should not pay that much for a cupcake.
The location is good too - although a bit small, they blew bubbles as customer entered - it was christmas time and that made it a bit magical to be honest.

We love their service. We ordered this cake and latte. We were expecting the bill to be around P285 but the cashier said she punched our orders as a combo so we got to save around P90.
As for the cake, I personally like the chocolate cake as it is very moist and could be a stand alone without the caramel. Nonetheless, it tastes really good and it’s not that expensive.
This is a cute little place to come to satisfy a sugar craving. I actually came here in the morning with my daughter and we just shared a red velvet cupcake and iced tea.
My first choice was a donut but we were told they didn't have any. But the cupcake was rich and delicious and moist. Because it is so sweet, one was really enough for me. The iced tea was also sweet but I liked that I could taste the fresh lemon in it.

I've got a thing for cupcakes. I'm not ashamed to admit it. And everyone knows that Cupcakes by Sonja is perhaps the best place in the Manila for cupcakes (although, my lovely friend, KC isn't far behind - and that's on self study and sheer passion alone, mind you). After dropping by Krispy Kreme for some take out during day two of Schatzi's day out, Rina and I walked Schatzi to Serendra with the intent of heading straight to the basement parking where we had parked, and head off home.
Love love cupcakes by Sonja. The whole family does. We love how their cupcakes are moist and how they ate topped with generous dollops of pretty-pastel-colored frosting.
Bought a couple while here last Sunday. Is it just me or were the frosting lesser than usual and cupcakes themselves were smaller.

Another “Cupcakes by Sonja” favorite cake of mine (aside from the “Oh Fudge” I previously posted) is this - warning long name - “Reversed Supreme Salted Caramel Chocolate Cake.” Moist chocolate cake and creamy (not too sweet) salted caramel buttercream. What’s not to love! 😋 Even better is their combo promo of any slice of cake plus a latte, cappuccino or hot choco for only ₱190. The slice of cake alone, in my case was already ₱150 so technically the coffee was just ₱40 (instead of paying full price of ₱135). 👌🏼
I didn’t give a perfect score though because, although airconditioned, 1) the store was warm, 2) they provided service water upon request but they had no ice, and 3) the counter table was dirty even though there weren’t any other customers inside (staff should always clean up thoroughly after customers leave) and 1 out of only 3 stools inside was wobbly. But still giving it an almost perfect rating because of the quality of the food and the value for money of their drink & pastries combo. 😊

One of the few spots in Serendra open today. It’s lok a ghost town in here during the Holy Week. We got a vanilla cupcake for my daughter, who said she enjoyed her cupcake, but mostly just ate the frosting.
We got a rainbow cake for her birthday. The cake is not that perfect, you can see it caving in the middle. Hoping it’s not dry when we eat it. The last one I tried in the Megamall branch was not as moist.

Had their reversed salted caramel cake for a change as it's their cupcakes that we usually order. Surprisingly even their cakes are good. In particular to my order, the chocolate cake was very moist and you can really taste the chocolate purely. The caramel icing was also good, not too sweet. I like this cake in general.
Have been going to Sonja's since they opened in 2007. They serve excellent cupcakes with favorites like vanilla sunshine, pistachio strawberry cream, and red velvet.
For todays visit, we had their valhorona flavored donuts that they have available from fridays to sundays.
The chocolate filling had a strong chocolate taste and was creamy and rich. The dough was light and complemented the chocolate well.
They have the yummiest cupcakes around the metro. I like how they present their cupcakes because it’s always fresh. They have cakes that are equally delicious too. Sonja’s cupcakes are my go-to peace offering to my girlfriend and it never fails.

So glad to see that the leader during the cupcake era from about a decade is still here! Interiors are well-maintained and staff were courteous. The amount of icing isn't as much as it used to be nor is the flavor like before but still worth returning to every now and then!

The Valrhona doughnut was my first ever taste of Cupcakes by Sonja. And I weep. I weep because it's only available during weekends. Why must this be so? So yes, I love it and I want to try all the doughnuts now. And all the cupcakes. All the things. Gimeeeeee.
A great place for cupcakes! ❤️ Their Red Velvet sets a great example for other cupcake shops to follow. Packaging, and presentation too is quite appealing. Who wouldn't find those dainty, pastel boxes pretty? It's good too, that they have started venturing out to other pastries, like cakes, and donuts. It doesn't hurt for a business to explore, and widen their range.

After we had a sweet escapade at the Freezer Burn. We walked a few meters to Serendra all the way to Cupcakes by Sonja to try their limited edition donuts for limited time only. This offering is for Cupcakes by Sonja's 10th Year Anniversary Celebration.
When we're at the counter there were only four flavors available to choose by that time because of the demands for donuts. They will release again after one hour. Few customers are in line to try the limited edition donuts too. Which we decided to have two flavors of donuts.

I can still remember my very first order of half dozen cupcakes at Serendra branch and my very first try on their red velvet cupcake and smore's tart, instantly this became my favorite cupcake place. At that time there were a surge on the cupcake market and they only have one branch (as to my knowledge) so my frequent visit on their store for take-aways (even if my route is out of the way) and my love for their cupcakes is, for me, something to brag about and until now that they have a lot of stores open.
Hope for them to succeed more and serve fresh and delicious sweets to more customers. Just created my zomato account recently thus my late rating :) Keep up the good work!
Before i always crave for their cupcakes. Sometimes i just go out to buy a box that will satisfy my cravings. Last weekend i just went here and im quite disappointed with the quality of the cupcake. It wasnt like the cupcakes i used to buy before. The cake is rough and so dry. I hope my next visit wouldnt be like this.
I have a sweet tooth, so its no surprise if you find me buying a box or two from this store. I especially love their Red velvet cupcakes and Peanut butter cupcakes.
I always get the elvis cupcake here cuz I'm a fan of reese's, the other cupcake are good too(some not too sweet for the older peeps)... a good snack on the go. :)

I looked at the sticker on the box holding the top lid closed. It reads, ‘Cupcakes by Sonja. Since 2006.’ Really? Ten years? Has it been that long since I started to eat Sonja Ocampo’s delectable cupcakes? Seems like only yesterday I was lining outside of this Serendra branch, when it was on its soft opening stage. I would be hoping and praying that they would have stock of their Red Velvet Vixen. If not, I would order something else and come back, possibly the next day. Lol!
I already had tried a few, but not all back then. But thanks to the red velvet one being out of stock at one point, and me wanting to try something different other than the Vanilla Sunshine, I opted to try the Lemon Drop. At first, the Red Velvet Vixen was my favorite number one pick. It all changed when I took that first bite of the bright yellow Lemon Drop cupcake. Admittedly, up to now, it still is my ultimate pick.
The buttercream icing is rich, sweet and sour. It’s got that perfect balance like a lemonade drink, and I do love lemonade. Lemonade flavored icing is how I would describe it. The sourness is just right, barely at the edge of lip puckering. Perfect icing to go with that perfect sponge cake. Moist and not dense. I just love, love, love the Lemon Drop!
Over the years, I may have tried many other flavors, some that were short-lived, and somewhat disappointed me when no longer on the menu. The Lemon Drop though has always been there and never let the cupcake lover in me down. I also may have eaten at other branches, and Serendra remains to be my favorite branch spot.

One of the cupcake shops that will always have a place in my heart (naks!), Sonja's cupcakes are definitely worth its price. My favorites are the Choco Cream Pie and of course their famous Red Velvet Vixen! Their cupcakes are soft and not so sweet, so they're perfect.
I ordered a slice of Rainbow Cake and Red Velvet Milkshake. I do not know why I did not try their cupcakes, their specialty instead because I did not enjoy the cake. I find it too sweet and there's really nothing special on how it tastes but it looks really cute. I enjoyed the Red Velvet Milkshake though, it is a complete dessert on its own, it's creamy but not too sweet. I'd probably go back to try their cupcakes.
Their red velvet cupcake and cheesecake cupcake were very good! We also ordered the fruity pebbles ice cream sandwich which was very tasty, too. I'm looking forward to trying the other cupcake flavors the next time we go.
If you're a sucker for cupcakes and everything cake, here's a great cupcakery spot for you. My personal fave are their carrot cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. For those foodies who are watching their glucose, they also have a sugar free version of your go-to favorites--red velvet, chocolate, etc.
Though not fond of sweets, I found a liking for their flourless chocolate cupcake which had rich velvety smooth chocolate flavor that melts in your mouth in every bite, unfortunately, for some odd reason, they've taken it off the shelf and replaced it with a cake to which they claim had the same ingredients - nope, it's a fraction of the mouthwatering cupcake, a total bomber.
i am a sweet junkie and fairy cakes are one of the best inventions in this world (though nothing beats cake!) their flavors are awesome, enough variations but one cannot consider all as favorites
The place is small. Cupcakes are good thou a bit pricey. The place is where you want to go should you want some sweets after that sumptuous lunch or dinner or just a quick bite when you get tired of walking along the BGC walkway :)

Thumbs up for my experience here 👍. It's my first time to try cupcakes here and I really Like their cupcakes , Not that sweet, not that plain, it's just PERFECT. The only problem is the place is too small but the rest its's good.
My first red velvet cupcake was from here. They did set my standards higher, since their cupcakes are incredibly yummy! The space is kind of cramped (I know they can do better with that little space), but the place is easily noticed by the people passing by. Totally worth a visit!

I ordered myself a slice of their Rainbow Cake, which was really appetizing to the eyes with its sprinkle-y and colorful garnish.
Much to my dessert loving self's delight, what is only physically seen is also as good as what my tastes long for.

These cupcakes are the bomb! I particularly like their red velvet cupcake despite my issues with the red velvet flavor. These cupcakes are moist and made into perfection.

A pocket cupcake shop along the streets of Serendra in BGC, Sonja’s is on top of the list when it comes to cupcakes. Their best sellers include Red Velvet, Elvis, Peanut Butter Nutella, Lemon Drop, Cookie Monster, Choco Overload, Pistachio Berries n Cream among many more. They also offer sugar free cupcakes of the weight conscious, like the sugar free red velvet vixen, sugar and gluten free bunny hugger and the sugar and gluten free choco overload.
I bought the carrot cupcake with cream cheese. What I like about Sonja as a whole is that they do not scrimp on the toppings. The cream top is nice and a whole lot all the time. I was surprised because I did not expect the carrot cupcake to be heavy. I was still able to finish it though.
In my humble opinion the standard for cupcakes here in Manila. Just by walking in their stores and smelling the air, you can tell that they make quality cupcakes. Add to the fact that you can see them make and bake the cupcakes is a wonderful plus.
A little girly place, imagine 15 year old girly plus old british tea. That's what the store feels like, a bit confused whether you're a teeny cutie girl or a snobby british woman.
I've had a go with their Choco Cream Cheese Swirl. Very Sweet creation, but the texture quite dry. And so it's quite hard to eat it. I don't like my cupcakes dry and crumbly. But nonetheless one of the best in cupcakes in town.
It's a cupcake heaven for everyone.. I love their red velvet cupcake.. Plus the ambience looks so cute! The colors of their cupcakes really made all the kids happy.. It's very simple but working.
Sonja's cupcakes may be pricey but their cupcakes are worth every penny. I would definitely recommend their chocolate cupcake called "Chocolate Surprise" and Red Velvet ☺️
When someone asks me what my favorite cupcake bakery is, I automatically say 'Sonja's: their Elvis cupcake is the bomb'. It's not that I'm a picky cupcake eater, but after watching 2 seasons of Cupcake Wars, eating cupcakes were more of a ritual for me. I prefer refrigerated cupcakes over non-refrigated ones too, so definitely this cupcake bakery just took it up the notch for me. Definitely gonna come back over and over again.
I've been to a lot of cupcake stores but Sonja will always have my heart. I personally recommend their cookies n cream. The cream alone is super good. But the cupcake alone is good enough. One of a kind, indeed. No one beats Sonja 👊
To end my birthday celebration and to satisfy my cravings! My boyfriend and I went here at Sonja's Cupcakes. Swear!! The red velvet will make you ask for more (I ALMOST DID) though it is quite embarrassing my boyfriend ask (the kind lady) to lit the candle so I could have a photo with it (truly appreciate it though! so sweet) 🙆🏻🍰💕 That triple chocolate cake (tastes like nutella with tons of different chocolate bars) is really really delicious!!
Cupcakes by Sonja's is my favorite place that sells cupcakes. I don't know why but i can't get enough of their Red Velvet cupcake. This place sells cupcakes cheaper than other cupcake places and is even bigger than most of them. Not only is it big and cheap but its delicious as well. The staff is friendly and although the place is small. Its still cute and very chill to just stay in the place.
The cupcake bakery known for its unique flavors and cute, colorful cupcakes! I tried having one slice of their red velvet cake with a combination of chocolate, it has a taste that is not too sweet and will satisfy your cravings in sweets while the rainbow cake was a bit sweeter, but also yumyum! :)

When mom and dad craved for desserts on a Friday night while at BGC, I didn't think twice. It's gotta be Cupcakes by Sonja. There's something for everyone: Carrot Cupcake for mom, Choco Velvet Mashup for dad, and Pistachio Berries n' Cream for me. With fresh lemonade and Americano, everything's good!
That moist and rich filled flavored cupcake is a trademark to perfection!
These are usually birthday giveaways at the company im working with and they never failed to fill a single cupcake to be indifferent amongst the rest.

Cupcake shops sprouted like mushrooms in 2013, but during that time, Cupcakes by Sonja has already established a name as one of the best in the industry.
Last Sunday, we dropped by and grabbed a box of six of their cupcakes. Sadly there was no Red Velvet cupcake flavor that was available. Their Lemon cupcake is my second favorite. Its frosting was a perfect mix of sweetness and tartness that serves well as both palate cleanser and dessert. Their Elvis cupcake is the most expensive one they have in the shop. It has pieces of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, peanut buttercream, pecans, and an Oreo crust. It's good but is bent towards being too overly sweet. It was my first time to try their Cookie Butter and Peanut Butter Nutella cupcakes. They were okay, but I thought the Cookie Butter buttercream was a little bland and too buttery for my taste. My least favorite from the bunch was their Peppermint Cupcake. Its flavor was not my cup of tea. It tasted like toothpaste. LOL.
This is one of my favorite cupcake stores in the metro, It reminds me of the US Based cupcake store Sprinkles in Newport Beach, similar design, similar Flavors. This is one of the very first cupcake stores that opened following the cupcake craze here in Manila, and still one of the most notable today.

Bought cupcakes for my single friends last Valentine's day and i super loved their chocolate surprise cupcake.. The choices were minimal though, probably because everybody wants a cupcake for Vday. Definitely a must-try.
Love their cupcakes! Frosting is just right and the cupcake itself is moist and good! A bit pricey yes but its so good! Your fort trip ain't complete if you didn't stop by sonjas.
When I have a cupcake craving I always head to Sonja's. You can see and taste the quality. A lot of other cupcake places don't use quality ingredients and don't taste the same or as good. I love all the chocolate options and anything with cream cheese frosting. I haven't found a better cupcake place yet.

If you want sophisticated cupcakes by the pioneer in cupcakes here in the Philippines, Sonja's is the place to go. Although I tend to like their icing more than I do the actual cupcake, they never fail in delivering quality cupcakes that can turn any frown into a smile.
P.S. I always adore their Smeg refrigerators. It makes the shop look very period and quaint. :)

The branch in Serendra (I think) is the first ever Cupcakes by Sonja. I grew up visiting Serendra for a cupcake fix, it's nice to see that they are now expanding and have some stores in the malls.
Order red velvet, smores tart, peanut butter nutella, elvis, and well, everything else!
Accommodating staff. The place is warm and inviting. Makes you think you are just at home eating your comfort food. Do not forget to try their Red Velvet!
I think Cupcakes by Sonja pioneered the cupcakery in the Metro. They have unique flavors which hits the palate of the locals. They just need to adjust the sweetness of the frosting, though. But overall, it's a good hit!
this is the very first place where i got to taste a cupcake, and clearly i'm not disappointed. in fact this is the place where i give dessert a second chance.
first time i tasted red velvet also here, and it's good.
i usually went for their premium cupcakes instead of their basic cupcake, since the i love their cream and the chocolates.
like their choco loco or choco cream pie.

Been a fan since there was just one branch in Serendra. I've always loved their cupcakes, but I wish the taste stayed the way it is when they started.

It's always hard to choose which cupcake/s to take home after a stressful day. But i must say your red velvet's the best!
I don't care what other people say, but I love LOVE Sonja's cupcakes--especially the red velvet, hands down. To me the perfect cupcakes are moist and decadent with cream cheese frosting, and Sonja's by far is the only cupcake place here in Manila that has gotten it right (for me, anyway!)
