The food is super delicious and on the affordable side. Service is quick. The place is quite small so it tends to get cramped. However, food is really good and the servers plus the owner is very accommodating and the service is superb. The owner even gave tips on how to eat the Ten Zaru Soba, which I really appreciated. Good service and good food will definitely make us come back here.
What I love the most:
1. The food is so tasty and plating was Glam. Big servings too compared to other Japanese restaurants.
2. The interior design of the place is so Japan-like my friends from Facebook mistakenly thought that I was really in Japan.
3. The waiting time is also reasonable. (Great for yuppies like me who only have an hour for lunch break)
4. They are open up until 2am (amazing!)
5. They have nice staff (they keep on asking me how was the food etc.)
Something they can improve on:
1. Air-conditioning
2. Availability of other menus
Overall, it's a great restaurant with a great food to offer. Highly recommended (but In my mind, I want to keep this restaurant a secret for it to not get too crowded and eventually affects their operation. lol)
I enjoyed the food. I ordered Beef Bulgogi and the serving was good enough to satisfy my hunger . Very accommodating staffs. Cozy place. Affordable foods. I will definitely coming back.
Best service, best food, best price, perfect place. Will definitely come back! :)
I sooooo love the bento box meals! 🍱
Very affordable and the taste is superb! The place though is a bit small but still cozy.
Great food, reasonable price, and friendly staff and owner...could be crowded during peak hours!
I love their Unagi and rice meal, pricey but totally worth it!
I love their tempura bento,
I love the service crew.
The owners are so pleasant. The other owner never fails to have a short conversation with us whenever we dine in. The food is great & really sulit.
Great food, great service, affordable price. Owners are very hands-on. Limited seating though, but we don't mind waiting at all! :)
Food is great..and the staff too....just make ur place bigger.. but its great!.

I had the best Japanese dining experience at Matsuya. Masarap na, mura pa! Sulit na sulit!
Food can bring people together in a way nothing else could. I couldn’t say more how much I agree with that statement. The past two teams I’ve been a part of at work have the same thing in common, the love of good food. It’s something that made me feel closer to them that gave some form f escape form our daily stress at work.
My partner from work wanted to treat me lunch so I did not hesitate and told him I wanted to eat at a Japanese Resto. I was craving for Ramen since it was kinda cold. So he suggested we eat at Matsuya which is just 3 minutes away from our workplace. During noon, the place is not yet packed maybe because it's somehow secluded. I was really stoked to try their Ramen as some of my friends told me, it's a legit Japanese Resto. Being a Japanese culture lover that I am, Matsuya didn't disappoint. I ordered their Matsuya Tantanmen and boy was it really 美味しい!Will definitely go back here for more 💖
This is a hole in the wall restaurant in a quiet part of BGC. We just discovered this place while walking around the area at night. And we're glad we found it!
Their bento sets are a good. It's not the best tasting but sulit for the price. Their bento just costs around P190-P250! It comes with meat, rice, shredded cabbage and small portion of 3 sides. Sometimes, it also comes with miso soup. It's a complete meal! They also serve complimentary cabbage with sesame dressing while waiting for your order.
Aside from their bentos, we also like their Yakisoba. It's very different (and much better) compared to Tokyo Tokyo's version.
Matsuya also serves Korean food, but it's pricey so we never tried it.
The place is just small. They just have 4 tables that could seat up to 4 each, and a bar table that can be shared by around 10 people. This is not the place for big groups or for those who tend to overstay in a restaurant.
Did not know there’s a hidden japanese resto around our office until my colleague introduced this place. I am such a big fan of ramen. From big ramen franchises to mom-and-pop ramen shops.
With the rainy season upon us, ramen offers a blanket of comfort in the middle of the pouring rain. Every slurp from a huge bowl of ramen is like a warm hug. It is just soothing. Ramen could definitely cheer you up instantly.
I ordered Sapporo Shoyu Ramen. Broth is not as flavorful and creamy as other Japanese resto offer but ramen is ramen. It is just my comfort food everytime, so no ramen is bad for my tastebuds. hehe
Question: What Kind of Restaurant spends a fortune on rental and barely puts out a sign to advertise its there? Answer: the kind of place that doesn’t need one to fill it’s seats. Matsuya is exactly this place, an excellent hole in the wall Japanese restaurant in BGC. If you think about it Matsuya is kind of a fish out of the water, it’s charm and novelty is not supposed to belong in the most modern place place in the metro. Matsuya’s scrappy appeal though, contrasts with the quality of food it offers. The salmon and uni are remarkably fresh, the Mackerel juicy and and roasted appropriately. Though their prices are not comparable with your typical hole in the wall, you know it goes to the rent to ensure you have one good hole in the wall Jap in BGC.
I'm so happy to have found an affordable Japanese restaurant within BGC that is open until late at night! Pretty sure I'll be going back often here!
Food is great! Place imitates traditional japanese setting. looks good but a little small. Service is great. servers are very attentive.
Gyoza - 4/5
Gyudon - 4/5
Ten Zaru Soba - 5/5 simple taste but very refreshing to the palate
Definitely a must try. Price is not bad for the quality of the food and thry have a good selection of japanese food. They will even give you an appetizer for free if you'll dine in. A hole in the wall resto!
Delicious food and affordable price. The staffs and owner are friendly and very accommodating. This place is recommended if you're craving for authentic Japanese food.
This is my comfort food. Work stress? I always come to Matsuya to treat myself for my favorite heavenly Japanese food, the bento, maki and ramen is worth the price. Legit Japanese style!
The food was fresh, properly prepared and a great value for the price. I love the taste of their ramen it was really delicious. I highly recommend this Japanese restaurant.
I love the cozy ambience of the place.
I also loved their Shoyu Ramen and Okonomiyaki (Special) so good and the price is just right.
I would have appreciated their Onigiri if it was packed using a Korean plastic. I guess their Onigiri is Korean made and not Japaneae.
You need to try matsuya! I guarantee you that you will comw out of the resto happy and satisfied. Plus their menu is so affordable and they have big servings! I cant count how many times ive been here. Its a place you go back to qnd recommend with friends.
Matsuya is king! Sure the place is hidden and pretty small... However, the serving sizes are huge! Totally. Worth the money. Food tastes amazing! This is a hidden gem in BGC.
Go to place for the late night Japanese food craving! 🍣 I work on a midshift schedule, going out a little past 11pm, only a few restaurants can accomodate us in these late hours. Good customer service, the food servers were attentive. 👏 Food was okay for the price. The place is small but ambiance is good. They also serve some Korean dishes (I ordered Bulgogi last time). Been here 3 times already. Will keep coming back. 😊
Great combination of cheap price, fast service and good food.
Parang tokyo tokyo lang. Same price range at mas angar lang ng konti sa lasa. Thanks!
Looking for a good and fast service, delicious food on a budget, fair serving; then Matsuya is the place to be! Knowing its situated in BGC, the cost of the food is worth its price. We ordered Cheesy Maki (Php220), Chicken Katsu (Php190), and Beef Teriyaki (Php220.) Everything we ordered was so delish ❤️ Definitely gonna try the other food next time.
Finally was able to find an affordable and authentic Japanese restaurant at BGC! Truely recomend trying their Okonomiyaki Special and rice meals! Serving is big and service is great! Picture included is there new rice bento that comes with Korean samgyupsal! Must try!
I liked the restaurant the ambience is nice it's like a traditional japanese restaurants. We ordered their bento since we were craving for some katsu and karaage lately. I passed by this restaurant everyday and it's my first time to eat here. Honestly, I wasn't disappointed, the food is good not that authentic but its value for money. I would prefer eating here than fastfood restaurants that offer Japanese food.
I've been only here twice. But if your craving for Japanese/Korean food but on a tight budget then Matsuya is the place for you. Affordable dishes but with decent quality. The place is small so it's not advisable to dine in big groups. I like their Bento 🍱 and Ramen 🍜 in which you can have for less than 200 each. And I also like their cabbage salad which serves as an appetizer while waiting for our order.
Matsuya BGC
Parking - available sa tapat mismo ng restaurant near the bus stop
Food - surprisingly good!! Very affordable Japanese food
Ambiance - the place is small but turn around is fast naman so don’t worry.

If you are looking for a taste of authentic japanese cuisine with a very reasonable price, Matsuya is a place to be. The food is really good. Chicken teriyaki and Samgyup Bento are two of my personal favorites. I also love their ramen and sashimi. The meal serving is very generous that two persons can actually share in one meal. The atmosphere and the mood of the place is most likely same as with a small local resto in Japan. The quality of the food and services they provided are excellent. The reason why i didnt give a perfect 5 star is that of the size of the place is too small which can only accomodate 4 tables (group) and 7 individuals at the bar. You need to wait for a long period of time for your turn during Lunch or Dinner time (peak hours). Nevertheless, it is worth the wait. The staffs are also polite and friendly. All in all - Good Food, Good Experience and Good People.
This place is really value for money. For P210 you get a teriyaki chicken bento! and it tastes good and includes a bowl of good size Japanese rice. Cabbage salad and hot tea are free!
Nagasaki Champon
Matsuya Tantanmen
Chicken Teriyaki (no photo, automatically devoured hahaha)
Although we only ordered a few dishes, the resto is fairly good at Php150 - 300 per dish price point. The chicken meat was so tender and teriyaki sauce was not overwhelmingly sweet. Not the best I've tried in the metro but both ramen had enough flavor and spice that warms the tummy.
Definitely looking forward to visit again to try other things in the menu.
Me and my friends were looking for an affordable authentic jap. Resto along bgc. My guy friend suggested that there's an authentic jap cuisine with affordable prices. This resto is located near bench tower but the resto is a little bit tricky to find. Might as well use waze or google map 😜😂The prices range from 150-300+. I ordered chicken teriyaki bento 🍱 (180php). It has a large serving. A must eat and try is Okonomiyaki regular(190php). It was so delicious and really large tho. I really recommend Matsuya Japanese Restaurant! Itadakimasu!
Affordable Japanese Restaurant in BGC.
Though the floor area is small and location is not that visible, this restaurant is for me a hidden gem.
A must visit place, indeed. Expect the restaurant to be full in peak time (lunch and dinner)
Matsuya surprised me. It's just infront of my office and was my first time to visit. Food was cheap for the serving. My Tempura Bento was only 180php for 3 pieces of tempura, 3 pieces of veggie tempura, rice, salad, bean sprouts, kangkong and a spoonful of potato salad. The tempura was a bit bland and just needed salt. The place also needs better ventilation since it was very warm when we came (before 11am). My peers and I loved the free appetizer, cabbage with some sort of dip that tasted like BBQ and peanut (not sure what it's called). Next time I'd eat here, I'll definitely try your humongous ramen. Looks delish! The ambiance and setup was great too since it felt like you were in Japan (cos of the decor). Place is small so I bet it gets packed easily but all in all, I would go back for another meal. 😊
Matsuya is a quaint casual Japanese restaurant that has a bit of Korean mixed in. This is not fusion cuisine, but is a harmonious menu that is perfectly comfortable offering bento meals alongside bibimpap bowls.
Most items feel relatively cheap for Japanese fare and it's sort of a case of you get what you pay for. Most items are around P200 but are of decent quality and portions. The seafood is fresh enough and service quality is also pretty good. It probably helps that it's such a small place with a rather sizeable staff.
It's a great place for work day lunches and other casual meets when you want Japanese but don't want to pay for the higher end stuff in BGC nor so you want to go to the likes of a Tokyo Tokyo fast food experience.
Going on an impromptu dinner date with my hubby.
Ordered a Tuna Maki for our appetizer. It was sweet and fresh and a little creamy to the texture.
For our Mains I had a Curry Don Pork which in this very huge plate, quite spicy but im no strange so it wasn't uncomfortable.
While my hubby had a Pork Donburi topped egg and lots of thin Nori strips.
Affordable sushi and a lot of choices. Though smaller serving size compared to other sushi restau, you can taste their food within your budget. Okinomiyaki is also delicious. Will come back for sushi!!!
Great place and value for money. A good place to grab a cheap ramen fix. The slices of the salmon sashimi were a bit small though but it was of good quality.
Definitely worth it.
Matsuya is not your typically over-priced Japanese resto (even if it's ironically located in BGC).
Their ramen is absolutely not their strong suit but their bento meals are worth every penny.
We are also in search for the best money's-worth gyoza and I think this almost tops the list (at least 2nd in said list)
Cant wait to try their sashimi for my 4th visit.
Tip: go earlier than the usual lunch or dinner time as they ordinarily have long waiting lines outside since it's not exactly a big restaurant.

Sarap nang gyoza nila at Don katsu 😊
Sana lang available na ung sushi at maki nila pag opening palang 😛
Generous serving of ramen! Big bowl for a less expensive price! Salmon sashimi is fresh! I will surely come back and try some more!
Hope they could improve AC and I think I could keep coming back!
Taste is nice. Especially fried chicken is sooo yummy. Also i like dipping noodle. However i regret to order sushi. It is so small and so week taste same as other restaurant.
Affordable and Yummy japanese food near burgos circle. The japanese owner is very hands on with his business, he also check with the customers how's the food and the experience. Prompt in refill their house water, and they also serve house tea. Must try their ramen and sushi!
Matsuya is my go-to restaurant when I cant figure out where else to eat, when I want ramen (which is often) or simply when I refuse to eat fast food.
Food and cost: they have very good chicken and pork katsu as well as beef bulgogi for an affordable price of Php 150 (bento box). Their ramen is good enough for me thats why i keep coming back! 😊 price is from Php 190-270.
They have free-flowing house tea (unless they run out) for free.
The space is very small and can feel cramped but its all good.
The curry chicken is not on top of my list, its just on the ok level. Together with the "miso nabe". Most likely, you'll end up ordering an add on of tonkatsu, or in the case of the nabe, an extra rice and ask your budget-mate for some meat.
CASH only.
This quaint, hole in the wall resto is a stone throw away from our office. I've heard raves about this place from co-workers who eat here practically everyday. I ordered shoyu ramen and it was worth the wait. If you plan to visit, allow ample time because the place is always packed.
Quaint place, affordable food. Chicken Katsu is tasty! My bf loves their Sapporo Shoyu Ramen. Will definitely comeback. The girl who served us food isn't smiling though, maybe she's a bit tired as the place is packed.

This is a good place to satisfy a sudden craving for Japanese food. It is frequently jam packed with people wanting to experience their bento and maki. Reservations are not allowed to always accommodate the maximum amount of people, so guests should hurry as soon as they have time. Once space is available, guests can choose to dine at the table, or by the bar facing the kitchen, just like the traditional izakaya, Japanese-style gastropubs.
But the wait is worth it. For P200, guests can order from all the bento or ramen on the menu. While my friends had chicken teriyaki or tonkotsu for their bento, I chose Saba Shio Yaki. It is half a belly of grilled mackerel served with rice, a coleslaw of shredded cabbage and sesame seeds mixed with Japanese mayonnaise, bean sprouts, water spinach (kangkong), a piece of vegetable omelette, and a potato salad. Not a bad meal for less than P200. The fish especially had that distinct flavor that only real grilled fish has, and it goes well with a squirt of calamondin (Philippine lime or calamansi) to give it a sour flavor.
So if one is willing to wait, Matsuya is a great place to go for a good, filling meal to satisfy those nightly cravings.
A frequent customer to this place due to its proximity to my office. Putting aside the bad ventilation, especially during noon time, I always go here for lunch at least once a week. They serve you good bento meals at affordable prices. Value for money ànd taste are both 9 out of 10, except for the ramen. Sadly, kaye didn't like it as it's not as tasty as ippudo's or ramen nagi's. But i still stick to my rating 'coz every item in the menu is truly a bang for the buck.
Must try:
- Any of the bento meals. Try a different one each visit.
At first I have heard negative reviews about this place when they initially had their soft opening regarding their food specifically - the ramen, so when I first visited I was hesitant to give it a shot, but I'm glad I did try because I would have been wrong on having a bad impression about this place, ever since that first visit, as they say the rest is history. I have been to this place countless/numerous times and as always it never fails to impress me with their food and customer service. The very first food I ordered from their menu was the Kimbap (Frudo Maki) and it tastes DELICIOUS! It was such a good mix vegetables, tamago, kani and bacon bursting with flavors. The sushi itself already tastes amazing but even more amazing with fresh wasabi and soy sauce! I will definitely go back for more of their Kimbap! giving them 2 thumbs up.
As for the place, its pretty small and could get busy and full so reservation is recommended. The place is a fusion between Japanese and Korean cuisine so dont be surprised if there are some Korean food in the menu even if it says its a Japanese restaurant. Also, not only they have affordable meals but also provides big serving which will satisfy your hungry belly 😊
I strongly recommend the following: Unagi sushi (per piece but worth it), Okonomiyaki, Kimbap (ofcourse), Bibimbap, any of the Donburis, any of the Dons, Tempura and Yakisoba. So the next time you visit, put an eye on these food from their menu.
Am a frequent visitor of this place. Not just because of their affordable Japanese food but because of the awesome customer service. You will oftently see the owners around when you dine. They'll remember your face if you visit them regularly. There's this 1 time we were given free dumplings and cabbage with dip.
You can have the Japanese feels when you are inside. Everyone will greet you really loud when you enter and exit the restau. The food are also affordable. It taste really good. But for now, what I have tasted mostly are their bento's.
My fave is the Chicken Teriyaki. Huge amount of serving and it comes along with side dishes and potato salad. (I wish they add more of their side dishes) Before you get your order, there will be a complimentary hot tea. (I think this is unlimited) You can also try their Katsu and beef.
I just don't like the feeling of sweaty sometimes when you dine in. Since the place is small and the kitchen is also there, you know how hot the place can be.
Best authentic Japanese in a very affordable price to match. The location in bgc is a stone throw away from the bus stop and parking area. As real as it gets. Your like transformed to a place in japan. Love the zen or quiet atmosphere.
THEIR GYOZA SOY SAUCE IS EVERYTHING! Cool place and affordable prices. It's like Little Tokyo in BGC. Ramen's serving is so big for just 190php. I dined here at 1AM and the staffs are still alive and kicking.
