Olivia & Co officially opened its doors with a grand opening last Wednesday. Originally from Singapore, they consider themselves to be a modern-day bistro with all-day dining and a global cuisine. Like Pinoys, Singaporeans consider eating as a national pastime. Imagine that.
We were invited to join their grand opening. Their outdoor space was heavily decorated with fresh flowers bearing congratulations for their first official day. The owner, Jack, was there to welcome everyone and he shared with us the positive feedback they’ve received from customers and from promising sales they've had during their 2-week soft opening.
Going inside is a treat in itself. The place is beautifully decorated which they describe as “garage meets whimsical vintage vibe… (in) a stylish yet relaxed atmosphere”. On the left is a cafe area with comfortable nooks for 4-6 people, a central bar, and a dining area on the opposite side for those that want more than just a chat. The ceramic figures are adorable, with many of them bearing the Singaporean flag. Toy planes adorn the ceiling, faux vegetation on the walls.
Singaporean cuisine has a lot of bold, spicy flavors and you can taste them in the food here. They served us food buffet style, and of course we tried (just a little of) everything. Their food is pretty good, I actually liked the flavors. One found it a bit too strong though, so I guess enjoying the food here is not universal and could be based on personal preferences. I feel (am hoping) that the food will taste even better when you dine in and have your food made to order.
From what they served, these are what I liked:
💟 Laksa Pasta. 405.00. House-made laksa paste, grilled prawns.
This was very interesting, i liked the coconut-y flavor and the heat from the ginger. The grilled prawns had a good bite, cooked perfectly.
💟 Pulled Pork Burger. 305.00. Pulled pork, fried onions, brioche, cheddar cheese, mayo.
I liked how meaty this is! They used Asian spices with this.
💟 Soft Shell Crab Burger. 510.00. Tempura soft shell carb, sesame slaw, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, fries.
My favorite out of all the savory food served. Also because I mostly like everything made with crab. Buns were soft. While I still prefer the one served by Ooma x 8 Cuts, this is a good try. They served us sliders, so not sure how big a serving is. I definitely hope its at least double the size of what we had.
💟 Cajun Fries. 145.
Oooh, loved the barbecue flavor of this one.
💟 Salted Caramel Macaroon Milkshake. 165. Salted caramel sauce, mini macaroons, ice cream.
Thick vanilla shake with whipped cream and caramel. It was a good size for the price. Loved this. Mine didn’t come with macaroons because i was told they ran out.
🎉Special mention goes to their cakes!!! 🎉 Seriously delicious. Well to me that is. Perfectly made, moist, right sweetness. It was hard to decide which I liked the most. We kept alternating a bite from each slice. We were 5 on our table and I think we shared 8 slices. I will back here many times for it. And I especially love how affordable it is. These are baked in store, not flown in from SG. Hooray for less carbon footprint. Equally impressive was how they were able to serve so much cake and keep the quality.
💟 🌟Sticky Date Cake. 145. Tasty textured cake with warm homemade butterscotch sauce and vanilla bean ice cream.
We didn't try it with ice cream, but the cake and the sauce alone was perfect for us. It’s a dense cake, so bring your appetite if you plan on not sharing. Toffee sauce could use a little more toffee, make it just a tad sweeter, but I'm still very ok with this as it is. If you’ve never tried one, its like a super good banana cake without the banana. Hope I didn’t confuse you.
💟 🌟Passion Fruit White Chocolate Cheesecake. 295. Creamy white chocolate with a jelly-like passion fruit glaze.
Fruity and tangy. This is a soft and creamy kind of cheesecake. Loved the crunchy seeds for texture. Crust was crumbly. Tried it soft at room temp, we loved it. Tried one from the chiller, loved it more.
💟 🌟Olivia’s Signature Carrot Cake. 155. Layered with cream cheese, handmade from scratch to plate.
This is amazing. Dusted with powdered sugar for a little sweetness. Not overly decorated with cream cheese like most bakeries, it feels a little more guilt free because of it. You can really taste the walnuts, and we initially thought it was a walnut cake. The carrots were not as much, which is ok with me. I don’t like carrot cakes that have too much of it, which feels like my mom is making me eat my veggies. Plus, no raisins!
These cakes made us all smile and got us so excited. I found the savory likable, but I would have to come back to try them again to be sure if I do like them. Their cakes are what will definitely bring me back here.
We had a great time. While the place was full and crazy, waiters were very friendly, updated us with our drinks, and even asked us if we’d like anything else before they closed the event. Every time we asked for something, like napkins or utensils, we didn't have to wait long for them. Great service.
Savory food - 3.5
Dessert - 5.0
Service - 5.0
It doesn't take much to please me. Hoping to get the same experience with the cakes when I return.
Revisited October 2017, carrot cake is still as yummy as I first tried it. Waffles are ok, could be better, but for 135 you can’t really complain much. Oreo milkshake could be thicker, fish and chips is big enough to leave one person full.
