Ordered tonkatsu bowl and this yakitori ( potato wrapped with bacon). Items at an affordable price as well. Service is good, very polite staff and always smiling.
Food here is good and is served quickly. Waiters are attentive also. Their yakimeshi is very good. The seafood is fresh as well as the innards. No foul taste. Their tempura is also good. Will eat here again for sure!
I like this Nanbantei branch. It's busy, chaotic, but tables were not too close together so you still have your own space to enjoy.
Staff were nice. Food- tastewise, all good.

Try the beef yakitori, the one with the sauce. It is a must have. I would also suggest the quail wrapped in bacon and the Momo (Chicken).. Overall good food!
A poster for a beef gyudon bowl caught our eye so we decided to dine at Nanbantei, BGC. We were given hot towels to freshen up as we sat in our booth. We were also given a free appetizer, a tiny serving of vegetables with a dip. Our orders were the beef gyudon bowl, tempura and chicken skin. The food was ok, typical of any Japanese restaurant. What I liked about this place was the service. The manager went out of his way to check on us and we were always greeted by everyone with a smile. When I was waiting outside their lavatory, one of the servers checked to see what was the hold up. Great service! Also, loved that they have promos too. If we dine again within the month, we get a free california maki (written on our receipt).

One of the few old school restaurants who have been able to maintain their quality and level of service.
Negima and Shitake were just OK but everything else was great specially the asapara pork, fish and beef yakiniku.
Chahan lacks flavor though.

Affordable, great location, good service. I love the sashimi and beef and pork yakiniku. Salmon sashimi is so affordable compared to other resto around BGC.
Ambience: Unlike their branch in Greenbelt, their branch in BHS is not that crowded and good if you wanted some intimate social drinking with your colleagues. There are couch seats available for 3-4 person.
Restroom: There's a bidet! And of course clean, haha
Food: I have tried Nanbantei in Greenbelt but we ordered their chicken platter before. But this time since we aimed for dinner than social drinking (though we did drink after). Their plain Japanese rice has a big serving, maybe just enough for a grown man to have. We also ordered Tempura (tasted like a typical tempura), their spicy tuna maki (is now my favorite there) and skewered baby squids (I didn't like this partnered with Rice, but it would be good partnered with a beer).
Spicy Tuna Maki is a must when you go there!!!
Great food and friendly, fast service! I love the cold oshiburi especially in this hot weather. The place is packed but the people are still attentive :)

Nanbantei of Tokyo is not your usual Japanese restaurant because it specializes in Yakitori. Apparently, in Japan, employees / businessmen often visited Yakitori-ya places (yakitori stands or restaurants) to relax and de-stress after a long day of work. And Nanbantei of Tokyo had been one of those famous Yakitor-ya in Japan. It has been in Bonifacio High Street and Greenbelt for quite sometime now, and I almost feel ashamed to admit that I haven't been there yet.
Superb food and great ambience. I like that it is good for sharing. But I like the Bonifacio High Street branch better just because it can accommodate more people at the same time. My daughter finished a bowl of rice because of their chicken karaage. More power and keep up the good work.
Went here for lunch with new boss and team heads. Would think this is an average place serving average taste Filipino dish. Everything we ordered was okay except the pancit molo was really salty. Still salty even after the soup was diluted.
Yakitori Saturday!
Had a late lunch date, after a quick work on a weekend. We headed to BGC, in Nanbantei of Tokyo. Its my first time! And was excited about this yummy skewers!The place is not crowded since it past lunchtime already. Place is quite spacious and interior are mostly wood and bamboos.
Nanbantei serves free vegetable appetizer and a fresh towel. And they serve also this addicting sauce, its a smoked soybean paste. And I enjoyed my appetizer with it
Since we’re just two, we orderered one of their Platters, Bestsellers (P1,050) 21 sticks that has 3 sticks of each kind. It includes Aspara Maki, Tebasaki, Pork Garlic Maki, Shisho Maki, Corn and Poteto Maki.
Verdict: I enjoyed everything with my cup of rice & bottomless iced tea. Good place to go back♥️
After meeting we found this yakitori restaurant.. Since we want a japanese dish for our lunch we tried this..

Friends and I always go here for most Friday dinner night outs. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Food is very good though and we always order their chicken skin (I can feel the high blood pressure nooowww), the leba maki (chicken liver wrapped in bacon), momo (chicken thigh) and corn (yeah it's good! :D). A bit pricey though which you won't notice you've actually a lot already lol
We love Nanbantei since you can get to try several dishes with their portions/ servings. If you get their yakitori, it usually comes in 2 sticks which is very manageable especially for 2 people. We got their crispy salmon maki. It's a good maki to share. Very filling and gives you a good texture with its crispy flakes around. We also got several yakitori dishes from their beef to pork belly to their mushroom wrapped in pork. We loved all of them and the servings were just right. Overall, great experience here with their good food and great service.

They have a wide array yakitori selections. You can have then coated with sauce or just with plain salt. They also have set meals which I recommend. It comes out cheaper. They also have a good selection of sashimi and makis.

Having dinner at Nanbantei is a good decision. I usually do my research first before dining out but this time's different. Perhaps what made us decide to dine here is the crowd (bec. a restaurant on full house is a good sign!) plus it's Japanese 😉.
Overall, food is great - salmon is fresh; pork yakiniku is tender and you can still taste the teriyaki sauce; tori karaage is crunchy and not oily; Gohan is gohan - you can never have a bad review for Japanese rice! As for their Hiyayakko, I think it'd be better if they serve the firm type of tofu. There may be nothing special about it but it still tasted good bec. of the bonito flakes. Uzura Tamago Maki - I never thought bacon and quail eggs can be a couple!
Plus points:

One of the best Yakitori place for me.. well there are really limited options. Best in terms of pricing and quality. Other restaurants are more expensive and less in quantity. Nanbantei is a okay. Fast service and friend staff too. It gets a little crowded on weekdays but enough space to accommodate you fast.
Great food and great service. Salmon sashimi is decent. My favorites are the Kani Salad and Asparamaki. Kawa (chicken skin) is good too if you're not health conscious. 😂
Been here twice and it did not disappoint! Staffs were friendly and attentive. Great place to catch up with friends to have yakitoris and cocktails. Price isn't so bad, I just didn't like how they served the asupara maki (wrapped in bacon BY PIECE) and enoki. Quality of salmon sashimi isn't good either. Will still go back for yakitoris though. 😊
Negima - chicken with leeks. My go to yakitori at this restaurant. The chicken is very soft and really hits the spot. It's not overly seasoned or dry like other places.
Yakijake - this is salmon belly. Very oily but delicious. The only reason we didn't order more was because of its P135/stick price tag.
Saba - this is a new item. Not sure if its just a promo or to stay, but its some really good mackarel. Really has that fishy taste and smell.
The staff are very, very friendly. Will return! ❤️

Monday lunch out w the team and we're back here at Nanbantei. We used to eat here a lot before because of the food. We love the bestseller platter (especially the poteto maki), the spicy tuna maki, and the yummy avocado ice cream! Since our new office is located near BHS, we all decided to have lunch here after xx months.
Good thing we made a reservation so we didn't have to wait since the place was kind of full. We were seated near the kitchen so we can see them cook/prepare our food. It was nice because we enjoyed watching them BUT we were all hungry that we wanted them to finish right a way!
While waiting for our orders, we were given veggie sticks and hot tea. Enjoyed eating the veggies especially with the miso based sauce.
We ordered the KANI SALAD, SPICY TUNA MAKI, SALMON SASHIMI, MIXED SUSHI PLATTER, CHICKEN SKIN, EBI TEMPURA, the BESTSELLER PLATTER, and an extra order of the TOFU.
*The chicken skin was good. Super cripsy and it was sooo addicting!
*The Kani Salad was just okay. Not the best salad but generous serving of kani, mayo and mangoes. The lettuce was fresh. There was just too much mayo and the mangoes weren't that sweet.
*The tofu was good. It was soft and I liked the sauce!
*The Ebi Tempura was -- WOW! The shrimps were not that huge but they were a lot! It was not dry, was cooked just right and the breading was crispy and not oily. For the price super sulit (7pcs for 375).
*The sushi platter was good. You get to taste different types of sushi/maki but I think it would be better if we just ordered the spicy tuna maki. We all liked the Spicy Tuna Maki! It was good but would just be better and yummier if it's a bit more spicy.
*We made the right choice of ordering their bestseller platter because ang dami niya and we got to try, well, their bestsellers! They were all sooo goood and yummy! Tender, cooked perfectly, and very flavorful! We specifically enjoyed the potatoes and asparagus which were both wrapped with bacon (BACON!!!!), the round flat pork (don't know the name) and the sweet corn.
*The japanese fried rice was good. The rice was cooked well and it was tasty.
For dessert, I ordered Avocado ice cream while the others had Black Sesame Ice Cream and Coffee Jelly.
* Avocado Ice cream was good. Really creamy and doesn't melt that fast. It was not too sweet, as well.
* The jelly was crunchy and not too soft and sweet. And the ice cream, again, was creamy and good! :)
As usual, service was excellent! Servers were very friendly and they attended to all our needs and requests.
Nice service and affordable food. While it isn't as premium or "rich" as other Japanese places I've tried, I believe that for their price and location, it's a nice place to eat in when craving for Japanese around the area. Place is a bit dim and do wish serving time was a bit quicker, as it took half an hour to serve just two yakitori sticks.
This is Japanese barbecue so there's none of the heavy sauces, no messy face and hands. The protein is lightly seasoned with salt and pepper, so this means you can't hide poor meat behind the marinade. Best enjoyed with Japanese single malt. Or Sapporo beer. Kampai!
#crispysalmonmaki is so delicious! And the crab eggs on #californiamaki is one of a kind that it actually pops on your mouth. The only thing I can suggest to be improved is the serving size of sushi, it's too small. One thing that we really enjoyed here is their service tea. They' ll serve you service tea from the beginning up to the end of your dine.

Good place with good ambience of the room. They have an indoor and outdoor seating perfect for the moment. Food is reasonable, filled with flavor, and having those food pictures taken. All and all an amazing place good to go out with the special ones.

Japanese food is really not my type. But since my sister love Japanese food and she research well on place, I let myself in.
We wanted to try almost everything on the menu so we got the meal sets. I got the Best Seller Set and my sister got the Maki Set. Since I was not a fan of pork fats or oily food, I was overwhelmed. But the Yakitori tasted great. I loved the Asparagus covered with bacon (I think) and the Potato covered with bacon. It wasn't too salty. The Kani Salad was perfect for appetizer. Too bad since it was so good we ate it all at once. It could have been a nice balancer for all the grilled pork that we ate that were a bit oily and salty for me. The Miso Soup was delicious. It was light but filling. The California Maki was ok. I tasted a better version of it. The Hibiscus Mojito was minty and sweet. Overall food was great!
Service was great too. The servers were very attentive. Always checking if we needed anything. They also suggest food that we might want to try.

Nanbantei specializes in Yakitori and I must say, my partner and I enjoyed EVERYTHING. ON. THE. TABLE! The mixed sushi platter was fresh and all the yakitori we ordered was superb!
Ambiance was homey and nice. A bit dark on the lighting but I found it romantic. Good for family and on dates. Service was fast and prices are reasonable

I have heard nothing but good things about this restaurant and I finally got to try it with my gf. She is already a fan of this place so I was lucky enough to have some sort of "guide" on what's recommended. Most of our food for the night were type of skewers. Such as the beef yakiniku, pork yakiniku, and grilled salmon rolled in bacon (Namajake sumi yaki). We also had an appetizer called Tori Kawa Karaage, basically it's chicken skin with breading with ponzu sauce.
The speed of the service was on point leaving us more time to enjoy our meal. The tori kawa karaage came first and became our 'pulutan' of sorts while waiting for the other items. It's a good starter also but really indulging since it's breaded chicken skin with a bit of meat. The karaage wasn't too sinful since it wasn't greasy to the point that it is off-putting. Pork and beef yakiniku were quite flavorful. I think that the yakiniku sauce really seeped into the meat giving off that delicious taste. For those who would pick the pork yakiniku would have a certain joy experiencing it since they used a pork belly to prepare it, meaning some fat portions enhances the taste. One thing I liked about the namajake sumi yaki is that it's salmon but even more exciting about it was it was rolled in bacon. I was so used to eating salmon with the salmon skin that this restaurant invented another way of enjoying this seafood. Kudos to that idea.
My Nanbantei experience was nothing short of spectacular and would highly recommend it. From the service quality to the food it was a really pleasant experience.

Their yakitori was tasty and that's all I can say. I'm not sure whether it's worth it to come back, as there are a ton of other Japanese restaurants that will give you the bang for your buck! I'd be willing to give it a second chance though!
I was curious about their skewers and it seems that I am not a fan. Too expensive for such small servings. Place is spacious and the staff was attentive, most of the time.
Their sushi is fresh but scrimps on the raw fish. The spicy tuna maki was delicious and the rice is just the perfect amount for a mouthful. Also ordered the crispy pork ears thingy and it tasted like chicharon.
Overall, it's a nice experience but I'll definitely not return and spend much money on skewers, but that is just me.
My family was here for our daughter's birhday dinner. What can i say? i felt like we ordered a lot but surprised with amount I paid...only P3,080..and that included the 1Best seller set, 1 shrimp tempura, 2 california maki, 1 kani salad, 1 order beef yakiniku, 1 kappa maki, 1 plain rice, 1 japanese fried rice, 1 strawberry shake, and 3 ice creams...It helps lower the bill when your family is not a fan of softdrinks or iced tea...We love water. We loved everything...except for the chicken wings that looked like frog legs😲😲😲

Nanbantei, what can I say? I really had a fantastic lunch today! I’ve been craving for some really good yakitori the past several days knowing that it’s Nanbantei that serves authentic and the best yakitoris in the Metro. And after a bit of strolling around BGC, I was in High Street just when I was craving bad. Lol.
Just like in my Greenbelt review, I always order Pork Garlic and Chicken Wings. I didn’t have to even think about it as it’s an automatic must for me. They are the best that’s why they are the best sellers in the menu. And why change something that isn’t broken? Me ordering them has always satisfied my yakitori fix. There’s really no other solution. Well, besides fly to Japan. Lol!
My four sticks (two each) were grilled to perfection. Juicy with that slight char flavor, simple and yet it packs a big punch of flavors. Just salt and pepper and garlic salt brings out a lot. It really is simplicity at its best. And with a cup of Japanese Gohan rice and that awesome little bottle of chili flakes with sesame seeds, it was a fabulous meal.
Of course, I ordered an appetizer. What is a Japanese meal without some sort of sushi or sashimi if it’s available? I ordered Salmon or Shake Sashimi. I loved it! That squeeze of lemon juice really enhanced the salmon flavor. Without it, it will be a miss. Raw salmon and a dab of fresh lemon juice squeezed on it is the perfect combo, with a little soy sauce and wasabi to dip in.
Nanbantei serves some complimentary vegetable sticks (carrots, cucumbers, and turnips). It comes with a brown kind of miso dip that I totally love, but I can’t figure out. What’s in it besides miso? They won’t tell me. Epic fails when I tried to make it at home with some random things I bought at the Japanese grocery besides miso paste. The recipe is top secret! Lol!
The BGC branch obviously is very different from the Greenbelt branch. Big and more modern in design. It doesn’t have that little quaint feel that you can sit at the bar and watch them grill things in front of you or make sushi like the Greenbelt branch has. I missed that. Other than that, service and food is always great. The prices are spot on.

Me and my workmates are looking for a Japanese restaurant for our dinner eat out today. I actually suggested Nanbantei of Tokyo at BHS since I found out that they have a promo that is good for 3 for the whole month of August. There are 3 sets that you can choose from that includes 15pcs of Yakitori, miso soup,rice and 1 entree for 888 pesos only! We ordered Set A (yakitori: gohan,tebasaki,potato maki,negima,aspara maki,pork yakiniku) with Ebi tempura. Everything is really delicious! My favorite among the yakitori that was served are the aspara maki and pork yakiniku. Their yakitori is so tasty that I just can't stop picking up every sticks. Lol! We ended up our dinner with their Avocado and Green tea ice cream. And yes, they are both so good! Their staffs are so friendly and accommodating that they constantly check on us if we need anything. The place is very nice, neat and very good ambiance. I'll be coming back here for sure!
We ordered their platter set... set a and b because there was 5 of us who had dinner there and it was all sulit... rice soup salad ebi tempura and almost all kinds of their grilled meats... i just dont like the takoyaki balls looking somethin somethin.. especially liked the chicken wings although it doesn't look appetizing and the thin sliced beef on stick

We came in for the yakitori, which did not disappoint! But the best of the lot was the shrimp yakitori wrapped in salmon. The salmon sashimi, Kami salad were also good.

At first, Nanbantei didn't catch my eye since most of their food were on sticks. My family insisted we eat here so I gave it a go since it was our first time to eat here. It actually exceeded my expectations! Their food was really good! We tried the salmon wrapped with bacon, tofu, baby squid, etc :) I'd go back to this place again.
Went here after a movie at Central Square Mall. As some may know, there are a variety of food selections in the cinema, ranging from popcorn to mexican fixes. So I was sort of full. But I was craving for a Japanese dish, yakitori or some sort.
Thus came here. I had the California Maki, Tori and Gyu yakitori. California Maki was good, just suffice to suit my cravings. Tori yakitori(Chicken) was what we know, great as well. However, the gyu yakitori, wasnt what I wanted. It was soaked in sauce, thus making it so salty that I couldnt finish it. Was too chewy as well, rubber-ish texture.
This restoraunt is not your perfect Japanese place(Lived in Tokyo for 8 years so Im sure with this) but just right for a light lunch.

The location was quite convenient and classy, which is in the middle of Central square along BGC. I found the price very cheap compares to other japanese restaurant. Although the taste was not really authentic japanese, it's still a good place to enjoy after work dinner with friends on a budget. The chicken skin is worth a try though. I think i will have it again with beer.
Yakitori yum! I just wish that the serving size was enough to justify the price. The aspara maki and all the garlic maki is anazing and together with the sauce. Delish!

Not many places specializes in Yakitori like this place is. It's my third time here. Although food is appetizing and delicious, it is pricey for its serving size. Food on sticks are not generous. When ordering you select a number of sticks and ending up speeding a lot.
For tonight I liked most especially their version of spicy Tuna. At Php 320, it's tiny. I slowed down and savored each bite. I put a whole lot of their wasabi with it.
Perfect! Everything we had was very tasty. The venue was also very different from the one in Greenbelt. This one has the warmth of wood in its ambiance.
The salmon sashimi they serve here is fresh. :) and the restaurant is spacious. We were supposed to eat at wholesome table but we were like 5th on the list and we were really hungry. I think we made the right choice and went here. So we had salmon sashimi, Tamago sashimi (tasty as well), aspari bacon ( I love this) and some other skewers. ~~~ value for money 👌🏻👍🏻 good!
Ordered california maki, sashimi and kani salad (must try!). They had the group meal when we visited which includes most of the dishes. It's a fun experience. Manager is always checking if you need anything. Very accommodating staff, good food, good place. :)

Nanbantei of Tokyo is a restaurant that specializes in Yakitori (skewered food). They also offer other Japanese dishes to add to your meal.
Browsing through their menu reminds me of our own street BBQ stalls where we would just point at what we want and they would cook it. Most of the orders have two sticks each (unless specified when you check out their menu) but you can’t mix and match. They also offer combinations for those who have a hard time choosing.
My favorite would be the pork garlic yaki and the enoki maki (I know; I’m biased to pork). Initially I thought that it was easy to finish all of these and we would need to order more. However, I was mistaken because at the end we were pointing at each other on who will finish the rest. Fortunately, I was the only one who still had enough capacity to squeeze in the last sticks.
Nanbantei is my favorite place to dine in with friends or family, and I think the same is true for others, as it is almost always packed at dinner time. I always get their Best Seller, and sometimes their Ebi Tempura. With these you could have a very enjoyable and filling meal for 4-6 people. With the Best Seller, you get both your protein and carbs, and of course, the sumptuous variety of skewers. The Ebi Tempura is cheap considering the amount per serving and individual size of each tempura, which by the way, are deep fried to crunchy, golden perfection.
Aside from their dishes though, the unsung hero of Nanbantei is their free appetizer, the veggie sticks that come with a tasty paste. It is light enough to not spoil your appetite, and if anything, it actually invites a bigger craving.
Lastly, the place is simple, and service is fast.

We love Japanese food and this place captured our taste buds. We paid this place a visit for more than 3x and this is our go-to place when my girlfriend and I can't decide where to eat. You can never go wrong in this place because their food has authentic Japanese flavors. Moreover, they have a 50% off promo on cocktails during weekends (I think). I also love the fact that they gave my dog a bowl of cold water without asking them to do so.

We paid the restaurant a visit on a busy Friday afternoon so we weren’t surprised to see the place packed with hungry diners looking for a quick Japanese fix. But luck was definitely on our side because we were able to score a table. As I mentioned earlier, we went there to try their PHP888 for 3 promo. They offer three kinds of set meals good for three people which only cost PHP888. There were 8 of us so we decided to share three set meals – two sets of Samurai Set A and one Samurai Set C.
Waiting time was actually not that bad considering that we were there on a busy day. What kept us entertained was watching the group of staff members grill our food as we peek through the glass of their open grilling station.
Everything is just so delicious! We were initially worried that we would not be able to finish everything. We then stopped talking to each other while we were munching non-stop. And before we knew it, everything was gone in 15 minutes!
We got two sets of Samurai Set A because everybody wanted to have tempura. I think this was one wise decision because we all loved it. I appreciate the fact that the tempura is not oily at all! Plus, I got a decent serving of shrimp unlike other restaurants that serve tempura with 10% shrimp and 90% breading.
Its yummy goodness on skewers! We had several yakitori and all taste good but my favorite is the Yaki Onigiri. If you are a "tutung lover" this is the ultimate texture plus flavor to go for... yum yum yum! They also have a meals for kids. Which my kid loves and they also gave us a kids eat free card for the next visit. Friendly staff, very approachable. Fast service as well.
Dined here with my balikbayan friends a while ago. The food was okay but wouldn't say they were exceptional.
I like how the place was spacious enough gor big groups without you feeling claustrophobic.

Nanbantei serves one of the best yakitori (skewered meats) in town. You should visit them when available. They offer skewered chicken, beef, pork, seafood and vegetables. They also offer other Japanese favorites like kani salad, soup, and tempura.
Food is really delicious. My only negative comments are that service is a little slow, servings are small, and food is pricey. We didn't end up full because we ordered to what seemed enough. We didn't want to order again because it was too pricey for something so small.
Nanbantei is a Japanese restaurant that specializes in Yakitori ranging from pork, beef, seafood, chicken and vegetables. Aside from their wide selection of Yakitori, they also offer sushi, sashimi, soup, salad, ebi tempura and yaki udon. We ordered the yakitori platter set (yakitori special) along with chicken, pork, seafood and beef yakitori single orders. Overall, the yakitoris here are really good. You can check out this place if you're craving for yakitori.
Yakitori is my boyfriend's favorite.. He can eat a lot here. Which i find good as well. It's a simple dish but makes you order and order.. It's somewhat addicting.. We ordered the beef with garlic, chicken balls, pork loin, there's another one and the sashimi.. The location of this restaurant is nice, the staff are attentive and the ambience is just right.
Went here yesterday for lunch. We had to follow-up on our food twice. The service was okay. Not bad. Not great.
As for the food, we ordered the yakitori special (all chicken). It costs around 850 pesos. No variety of dippings though.
I love yakitori and this is a great place to get good quality yakitori at reasonable prices. They have a good selection of yakitori dishes available and I believe they serve japanese rice here and not the local variant. Would consider this place one of my staples.

Tried out Nanbantei because it was one of the few restaurants open on Good Friday. Food was not bad and considering we ordered quite a bit, the price was okay. We had the beef yakitori, spicy tuna roll, tori karaage and ebi tempura. There are far better places to go to for Japanese food, but for Bonifacio High Street, this is one of the more reasonably priced places.
The best Yakitori house in town! One of those restaurant that we keep goin back. It never fail to satisfy our cravings for grill items. All staff are accommodating, very service oriented. For the Nth times, "Best Seller" is the one we've always been ordering. Quite flexible with their ordering system too, you can always order by the sticks! advantageous for big groups having different cravings.
And i found the best salmon sahimi in town! The place is convenient and the crews are friendly. Oh, try also green tea ice cream! I would highly recommend this to friends.
This modern Japanese restaurant specializes in Yakitori. They have different food all cooked in Yakitori style such as asparagus, beef, chicken, pork, bacon strips and kani(crabstick). They also have the usual Kani salad, soup and chahan. The servings are quite small and you will have to order several servings if you are a group of more than four people.
A cozy Japanese joint! If there's such a thing as comfort Japanese food, this would be the place for it. Not only do they serve both traditional and hip Jap dishes, they boast of a wide array of cocktails and drinks. A place to truly kick back, relax, chow, and drink among friends... or family.
I recently dined here because my friend suggested it to me. And man, I was surprised at how pleasant this place is. Not only is it located in High Street South (one of my favorite places ever), it has a wide array of Japanese dishes - from sushi to tempura to everything else, they have it! They even have (drum roll please) avocado ice cream! So delightful! And any restaurant with free wifi is always a plus to me. But perhaps the most important thing about this place is that their dishes are very affordable given the ambiance and aura of sophistication it has. I highly suggest you dine in at Nanbantei. It's now one of my faves!

A friend treated me out to lunch recently. We opted for Nanbantei at Bonifacio High Street Central.
I love Nanbantei because its small plates cater to the solo diner or at most, to two. They are priced appropriately. Most restaurants offer bigger servings at more expensive prices so diners are limited by budget and stomach capacity. With Nanbantei, one can get a little bit of everything and not spend so much. However, it might get tricky with bigger groups because the serving sizes are really just meant for one or two.
Unlike other Japanese restaurants, its menu is anchored on the yakitori. The other Japanese dishes complement the grilled items.
For starters, we were served cruchy vegetables alongside a condiment paste. We shared the rest of the dishes. The Japanese Grilled Oyster (PHP225) and Beef Garlic Yaki (PHP175) were perfectly grilled and tender. The Ebi Tempura (PHP345) was good but the coating hardened as time went by. I paired these with Yaki Meshi or Japanese Fried Rice (PHP100). While it was good, I've had better and cheaper versions.
Another friend was late and ordered the Tori Karaage (PHP175). I had a bite to taste. It was also good but I was already quite full to fully appreciate it.
What stood out for me was the Avocado Ice Cream (PHP95). I wasn't able to resist it when the waiter suggested it when we asked for dessert choices. After all, avocado ice cream is not easy to find. Nanbantei's version was very creamy and reminded me of summers scooping fresh avocado and mixing it up with milk and sugar. I recommend this wholeheartedly.
Nanbantei is located at the far end of the right wing of Bonifacio High Street Central. It has indoor and outdoor seating and an onsite restroom.
We celebrated mom's bday here and absolutely loved it!! 5k for 9 is not bad also.
