6 years ago, I found it strange that a coffee shop would occupy such a vast space in Net Lima building. Apparently, it was Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf’s version of a full blown restaurant, a bistro if you may, serving filling, out of the norm, comfort food.
As soon as you sit, a waiter will woo you to indulge in some of their gourmet meals. You may still, however, walk to the coffee counter to order your choice of drink or dessert. Bring home some too if you wish.
I was just invited a week ago to take a glimpse of their newest menu. I guess the continuous growth of our local food industry now requires each establishment to be more relevant as much as they could.
I was with my girl friend, Mia and her sister, Myla. We were served familiar gourmet meals of different cuisines, and we all felt then the sheer effort to upgrade its taste in every sense.
We started with French Onion Soup, wrapped in loads of sour dough and mozarella. It was fitting to sip on a breezy night, best served hot so cheese won’t turn gummy. I also liked the balance of sweet and savory taste of its caramelized onions.
Mia’s ultimate pick of the night arrived next, a colorful plate of Vietnamese Shrimp and Pomelo Salad. This was strikingly flavorful, which explained why it was quite addicting to have, especially for her. The pomelos were well picked, as they were juicy and sweet.
USDA Garlic Steak was my go to! I adored the tender and well seasoned meat, which did not need gravy or any other sauce. If you, however, appreciate some spice like me, I suggest munching on the lightly cooked cloves of garlic on its side.
Myla, on the other hand, spoke volumes on how they created their version of American Macaroni & Cheese. It was as creamy as it can get, thanks to its three-tier combinations of provolone, mozarella and parmesan, all mixed up in generous al dente fusili pasta. It was masterfully sinful, so sharing it would be a superb idea.
We were also served non-greasy Truffle Fries. This ultimate side of choice could be good company while you enjoy 26th Bistro’s other offerings. Its taste will surely linger in your mouth!
Speaking of other choices, you can also treat yourself and your loved ones with their breakfast-feel, Chorizo & Egg Skillet, a ligther plate perhaps with Parmesan Crusted Sole or an Italian delight of Pesto Fusili with Grilled Chicken. We didn’t have these, but will surely have it on our next visits.
Of course, they also left behind classic favorites, such as Eggs Benedict with creamy Hollandaise Sauce, their comforting USDA Tapa, signature Rosti with Spanish Chorizo & Poached Eggs, and crowd-favorite Herb Crusted Salmon with Lemon Risotto.
And, don’t forget to leave room for dessert! We didnt, and so we had two slices of what’s new and what’s been there since the start cakes. I requested for the really rich, Ube Cheesecake while my companions enjoyed the Triple Decker Cheesecake. It had layers of mocha, oreo and New York style cheesecakes in one. Yuuuum.
Oh have the sweets with some beverage. I had Orange Juice while Mia, agreed to my recommendation of soothing African Sunrise Chai Tea Latte’.
