Reviews Nanay Cirilas Kapeng Barako

We did a mini vacation in Tagaytay and found Nanay Cirila’s online. Reserved for Tuesday lunch and we had the place to ourselves . You need to preorder here and so we did - bulalong kare kare, chicken curry, caldereta provencal, turon, halohalo and of course the kapeng barako. Chef Medi was kind enough to allow us half orders as we wanted to taste as much food as we can. I don’t even need to say how much we loved the food, only that hubby and daughter agreed that we should dine here the next day. That’s how good it was. We went back and had bulalo (this is probably the healthiest bulalo ever!) and grilled liempo, still half order each. Big mistake. My daughter ate all the liempo! And it wasn’t that easy to order more. We also loved the banana crepe with whipped cream, iced tea was yummy. Heck, we loved everything! We also got the kapeng barako coffee beans to take home. Aside from the food, we love this place because it’s quaint and quiet and private. We stayed for at least 2 hours each time just playing wordscapes and forgetting the time. We never felt like we were overstaying our welcome. Remember we had the place to ourselves both times. Chef Medi was very easy to talk to, never intimidating unlike how you sometimes feel talking to chefs in other restos. She was with us both times and always made us feel welcome. Even the 2 waiters were very easy to talk to. We stayed at DCS and Anya which is a good 20min drive without traffic but we didn’t mind. I will be really bold here and say that this is the best value for money restaurant in Tagaytay. It’s the most value for your buck and no resto in Tagaytay can compare. I almost didn’t want to write this review because I just wanna keep this hidden gem all to myself but it’s too good not to share and a restaurant like this deserves to be experienced by all. Chef Medi, we count that food and service stays the same even as you and your food become more famous. Cheers!

The wife and I stopped by for a late breakfast on a beautiful sunny Sunday, November 2, 2014 in Tagaytay. Welcomed by owners Med and Ray with hot coffee and enjoyed a sumptuous meal of sunny side up eggs, garlic fried rice and sides of marinated beef, crisp tocino and tasty sausage. Both dishes included a touch that we had never experienced with breakfast but blended superbly: chopped salad with onions which perfectly balanced with the slight saltiness of the meat sides. Breakfast was topped off beautifully with cinnabuns with creamed cheese frosting (To Die For) and Medi's ice cold calamansi juice (better than plain iced tea!). The superb to-order food, relaxing ambience and the owners' hospitality make this place a MUST VISIT on your next trip to Tagaytay -- just in time for the Christmas Season!

The moment we stepped in and greeted by the chef/owner tita Medi, we felt right at home! Exactly what we have expected and more. Homey ambience with friendly owners, literally felt like you were visiting a relative! The pre-ordered meals were served right away and the food was d-i-v-i-n-e! It was only my husband and I and our 3-yr old and we wanted to try as much food as we can and chef Medi allowed us to have half orders of everything! Isn't it awesome?! We had beef bulalo, bulalo kare late and grilled prawns, leche flan, crepe, also had iced tea calamansi and took home their super yummy cinnabun! Definitely a must try!! We are coming back for sure!

This is a private dining place that can get you a little taste of home cooking, would be ideal for tourists or bigger groups. You have to reserve and order beforehand. The food is generally good, the bulalo is up to par with other places in tagaytay. Their grilled liempo is great, albeit a bit salty. Their bangus is as big and crispy as others in tagaytay. It's a nice friendly place, worth trying out if you're in a big group, otherwise it's similar to other Filipino places
