Biased as I love Coco Ichibanya! The standard was high as it is in any Coco Ichi, and the cost was in line with other branches around the world - expensive for the Philippines though.

One of the good places to get your Japanese curry fix in Manila.

Restaurant itself is very spacious and clean.

Food wise good variety, basically just the same curry but I like the thought that they have options for vegetable or fish/seafood choices only. Just a bit sad they are slashing the Hamburg and the sausage on their menu which is a personal fave. None the less would still go back for their food.

TLDR: Great food, quiet place. Recommended for: Japanese food lovers, people who want to have quiet conversations over lunch, spicy food lovers.

Food: I don't think I or my friends have had a bad dish at CoCo Ichibanya. Granted, the selections look varied but (almost) everything has the same sauce, but just having a different main ingredient makes a lot of difference and every meal is just satisfying. Not sure if it shows, but I love CoCo and Japanese curry!

Ambiance: The place is very quiet. I like that the biggest table in the restaurant is technically outside the restaurant and in the far back, so big groups who may get a bit noisy and rowdy can't disturb the other customers.

Price: The prices are kinda OK since the servings are big, but they aren't everyday-lunch prices. They're more date prices or I'm-with-my-parents-so-it's-okay prices.

A good branch of Coco Ichibanya, had their mixed salad and their pork cutlet omelette curry at level 2 spiciness. I like their salad here, it's not the biggest serving but it tastes quite nice, I like the Japanese dressing a lot. Their curry is great, perhaps one of the best Japanese curries you can get now. The level 2 spiciness is just right for me, maybe you can go level 3 if you're a big spicy person but level 2 or 3 seems like the sweet spot.

Spacious, clean. Not cramped because not bound by walls since located insided a mall, a whole side is “open.”

Food is always the reason why I give a 5 when I eat at a Coco Ichibanya branch, consistently goooood! We got an order of Pork Cutlet Curry and an order of Pork Omelette Curry.

Tip: We always get just the safe or standard spice because you can adjust it (to make it spicier) with the spice powder available on each table. If you make a mistake of ordering a too spicy dish for you, it’ll be harder to “fix.”

Service was okay, did not encounter any problems. I used my Mabuhay Miles GC for Coco Ichibanya and other sister companies and it was a smooth transaction.

Will I be back? Yes when in Eastwood, it’s rare though because it’s always traffic in Libis.

Tastes exactly Japanese curry and the volume is quite satisfactory. Priced reasonably for what you eat. Hope for more stores to be opened across the Philippines.

I am not a stranger to Japanese curry as I have had chicken curry lots of times before and I have made it at home as well on multiple occassions.

But a lot of people seems enamored with Coco Curry so I was curious and went to the nearest branch within my vicinity, which happens to be in Eastwood.

The place is hidden along with the restaurant called Mesa at Eastwood Mall, 3rd floor. They do however have a good number of seats, decors were very modern and it was quiet which suits me as I prefer dining without all the noise.

Ordered The Pork Cutlet and Egg Curry with added cheese, Standard Spice Level.

The curry roux is undoubtedly authentic with its rich smooth flavor and wholesome deliciousness that can appeal to a lot of people. The thick pork cutlet was well breaded, needed a bit of finesse when I cut it into pieces but it meshes well with the curry sauce, mild cheese, soft egg and rice.

Unfortunately, I wished I ordered a higher spice level for it was a bit underwhelming at first. I had to rectify it by sprinkling the hot spice container over my curry to adjust the spiciness level.

The whole thing became more delicious after some adjustments and it was made even more interesting when you put a bit of the pickled plum into the mix.

The small crunchy red bits were sweet; nevertheless a bit of it on your curry adds texture and another dimension to the curry dinner.

As for the serving size, this is hefty enough for me and I am a big girl because the rice serving is big enough and the curry sauce was practically covered majority of the plate.

Service was okay, the servers were polite when they take your order and they know their products but they remain quiet unless you call out to them. I don't mind though as it helps me concentrate on eating.

Overall, a solid curry chain. Not one I may visit soon but when I do have cravings for good curry, this is the top of my list.

I've been hearing about this curry place for awhile now but its only now that I've been able to try it. Their menu has a wide selection on that you want with your curry whether its pork, beef, veggies, or seafood. On this first visit I opted for the pork katsu with scramble egg rice and level 3 heat curry. I also added a side salad and a regular coke for 90.

The curry itself was delicious however, the pork katsu could have had better batter and a but dry it was still good. The cook on the scrambled egg was perfect and the serving size was generous. Definitely value for money.

Place is somewhat hidden / not noticeable. Ambience is good. Food is a bit pricey but flavorful. Ordered pork cutlet and cheese curry. At first, i thought that the rice was not gonna be enough but since the curry sauce was heavy, i didn't need to order extra. Pork cutlet was thick. Also ordered creamy croquette. Was told it had crab meat but unfortunately, didn't taste any. Overall, will likely return.

Definitely my go to place for Japanese Curry. The distinct taste of their curry is what I always crave for. There’s no other place for me that comes close. The curry has that perfect consistency and spice. The Katsu is nice and crispy and the added extra topping of corn, spinach and cheese makes it perfect for my palate.

Been craving for coco curry for a while now. Trying to avoid beef and pork, so i opted for fried squid with a side of spinach, level 1 spiciness. Food was awesome, no difference from what i’ve had in japan. The squid was surprisingly tender. Rice was expectedly delicious. Great service in this branch.

Second time my partner and I ate dinner here and we just keep loving CoCo Ichibanya even more. Quality of food and serving is sooo worth the visit and the price! Food is served freshly cooked but what I specifically like about the meal is that the temperature of the food was just right (not the type that burns the taste buds on the first bite). It becomes important when I’m really hungry as I go to the place, which in this case, yes. 😋😋 I really loved my pork cutlet omelette! Also kudos to the attentive and polite staff. My partner and I are excited for our next dinner at CoCo Ichibanya.

Ordered pork cutlet and vegetables, and fried fish with shrimp and spinach (not seen in the menu here in zomato; need to be updated)

Spice level of curry is 1, and maanghang sya for me ha to think na i like spicy food.

Crew said since we ordered premium, we have free pastry dessert na may vanilla ice cream sa loob (receipt said "choux"). It was really good!

Sorry no photos, too hungry! 😅

This restaurant is the master of curry!

Lahat nang hinahanap mo sa japanese curry andito na. Ung mga menu nila pwede mo i-personalize according sa taste mo (from none to super spicy). Then pwede ka din mag on nang mga toppings so super flexible nya i like that idea.

I ordered pork cutlet curry with egg tpos nag pa add ako nang beef then not spicy. So dumating naman ung food nang hindi ako na iinip. Ung lasa yes masarap sya tlagang mapapadami kanin mo. sobrang bagay nya sa kanin. Ung meat ok din for me hindi sya sobrang tigas.

Service is nice too. Mabilis tawagin ung mga waitress at accomodating naman.

So kung nag hahanap kayo nang curry house marerecommend ko tlaga ito. Reasonable price pa. Pwede ko itong balikbalikan.👌

We ordered the chicken cutlet omelette curry rice. We asked to separate the curry sauce (because we wanted to capture the sauce dripping). I honestly enjoyed this meal. The curry flavor is not overpowering and the chicken cutlet is soft. The omelette is delicious too!

We came here to soothe our cravings for curry and we weren’t disappointed. My friend ordered a salad while I ordered for a standard kimchi curry rice and it looked rather plain, but the flavor was there. Maybe it wasn’t as spicy as I expected (for the standard spice level) but it was fulfilling. The ratio of curry to rice was a bit off - less kimchi more sauce and a lot of rice but I guess that was the standard size. I liked the food and will surely be trying out the others as well.

I really love the Chicken Gratin here and I order it almost every time since I'm not a big fan of spicy food. It's really good with generous amounts of chicken and cheese and perfectly cooked rice. When I do want a bit of spice, I order the Naan Bread with Curry Sauce but only in mild spice mode but it's spicy enough for me. They also have good meal values to add drink and dessert to your meal for a small price. I always have a good dining experience when I eat here.

(F)ood:
The food here is great and is served hot. I particularly love the Pari Pari Chicken Curry, Pork Cutlet Omelette Curry and their Fried Chicken Omelette Curry. Yummy! The food speaks of authentic Japanese ingredients and serving size though the prixe is quite expensive.

(A)mbience:
Very clean and neat and is reminiscent of their branches in Japan, though the branches there are smaller and usually just a counter.

(B)utler Service:
Service is the best. Servers are fast and attentive.

Finally somewhere nice to eat in Eastwood. Plus we have additional discount from our company. Yey!

I tried their Fried Chicken Curry with Egg this time and it was wonderful. The chicken pieces were well seasoned and tender. The whole curry dish was perfect for the rice and egg.

My boss tried their Curry Udon with Sliced Pork. The curry was the star of the dish, in a way unfortunately. The noodles were bland and very much dependent on the curry. The pork slices, sukiyaki style, were really good, somy boss finished them along with the soup. Sadly, the noodles were left.

My colleague tried the Tonkatsu with Egg. I tried a piece but I didn't like it very much. Nothing special and I find the porkchop bland and a bit tough.

Also tried the naan w curry. My other who enjoys spicy food chose the crazily hot curry. I tried a small piece and find it too spicy for me, but didn't satisfy her as it wasnt the hotness she was looking for, but nevertheless it was good.

Not really a fan of anything curry but we tried this resto in a saturday afternoon. The staff were very helpful, they recommended the bestsellers and they were really great.
OTT:
Pork omelette with curry - good for two, tummy filler
Cheese hamburger - also good, curry tastes just right
Tip: choose standard hotness (they have chili sauce also) and standard rice size is good for two persons

I've tried coco ichibanya in multiple countries and the location here in eastwood serves the same great Japanese curry. Had the spinach curry and it was delicious as usual and nicely presented. I also love how they leave a container of Fukujinzuke for you to add to your curry rice and spicy powder shaker if the hottest curry isn't enough for you. Service was good too staff was ultra polite.

Ambiance is akin to some Japanese establishments.
Service is sharp. People are nice. Food serving size is enough although the pork cutlet would be better if it was bigger and juicier. I went for regular rice serving but I still didn't have enough meat to finish the rice with. The pork cutlet was dry and thin. The frying oil used tasted kind of old. The curry sauce is great! If you like spicy food, hot is a good level of spiciness because more than that would ruin your palate.

My hubby and I really enjoyed the food here. At first, we were expecting it to be so-so as the place looks plain plus the menu pics look small and "bitin" (considering we eat a lot). But once we took a bite from their Nan bread dipped in their curry, we were in heaven! Time to go back and bring the kids and try out other choices from the menu!

Japanese Curry at its glorious finest. We ate here on a monday so generally there wasn't a lot of people. First you have to choose in their various curry offerings in the menu. Then you have the option on how spicy you want your curry to be. Then they give you the utensils along with wet tissues.

We ordered:
Cheese Hamburger Curry - I'm a sucker for anything with cheese, i loved how juicy the beef was along with the cheese.
Thin Sliced Beef Curry - my sister wasn't able to finish this but she liked it.

Overall, i liked the food, ambience, staff (they were very accomodating and nice). Basically no complaints at all.

Ahhhh the smell of Japanese curry.

One of my favourite smells; although for some reason I don’t like the smell or taste of other curries like Thai or Indian ones. There’s a sweetness tinged to the savoury in Japanese curry and while I far from want a perfume of this scent, I still enjoy coming into a restaurant that wafts of the thing.

I prefer my curry thicker, but the taste of this is just fine. I take the very mild type, the kiddie version if you will, but next time I intend to try the number 1 at least, as the point of curry is to have some spice in your life. The sausages are one of my favourite things ( are these specifically Japanese sausages?) and I wish they’d make them into cute sausage octopuses ( octopi?), like they do in a Japanese kid’s bento, but you can’t have it all. The plating of food here echoes a yin and yang pattern, with dark curry on one side and white rice on the other and their plates have the Coco Ichibanya logo.

It’s a shame that most families aren’t into curry as the restaurant seems like a nice place for kids. The menu allows you to customize your food choices and there are very kid-friendly options such as burgers and fried chicken and, of course, the children’s set meal complete with cute jello-custard. The price may be a tad high, but there is a good sized serving for the price. Salad, and moving to another restaurant, are the only options for those that do not want to have curry. Food is served in relatively due time.

The restaurant is clean, but there is too much open space for my liking. There is no privacy from passersby of the restaurant. No glass or door separates the diner from the spectator. The next door restaurant, Mesa, seems to have a similar set-up.

Table spacing is, thankfully, well. It is just enough so you can hear the chatter of your neighbouring table, but it is not close enough so you can eavesdrop accidentally (or even if you strain, if that’s your purpose. Just kidding. You can probably hear the other table if you try hard enough or if another table is unusually loud). You don’t have to uncomfortably move your chair so that the person behind you can pass.

Décor is of a typical Japanese, casual diner type. I like how the branches in this country feel a bit more upscale than in Japan where they have these places in alleyways sometimes and are cramped. I think they should have incorporated that Japanese way of paying for a meal, which is the diner going up to the cashier to pay after the meal, to the Philippines’ Coco Ichibanya branch, just to give a better experience to the Filipino customers. I can’t remember correctly, but I think this method is also used in Din Tai Fung, in which case I would stand corrected and it’s not solely a Japanese way of paying for a meal. Interior space is used efficiently in the bar as they put wine glasses on the ceiling of the bar to free up the counter. I like how visually efficient it looks like. I like it when bars and restaurants display their clean wine glasses in straight rows on top and you can catch the subtle sparkles. It relaxes me.

… Anyway. Menu design is organized, and easy on the eyes with a consistent colour palette, whites oranges and browns. Again, the usual Japanese diner aesthetic with pictures for almost everything to help foreigners pick out their food. The blackboard menu is flawless and precise in font size and straightness that I wonder if it is computerized and not done by hand at all.

This place is perfect for a no fuss meal and dining experience.

I liked that there's a pretty wide selection to choose from. I personally like the prom katsu with omelet. I have really low tolerance for spicy food so the mild or standard spice levels are perfect for me. My boyfriend on the other hand gets his at the 4the spice level 😭

Service could be improved. Our waitress was not very nice. Her tone was slightly rude when answering our questions. If not for the yummy curry, I'd give it. 2.5 out of 5.

Had this curry before, and i didnt quite like it. After my visit last weekend, i must say its growing on me. My first time to try their "best seller" pork cutlet curry. The curry is nice. Very flavourful and had the right amount of heat. It tasted like it was cooked for hours, which made all the flavours blend together to the point where you cant really taste the individual ingredients anymore.

The pork was tender and juicy, but the thickness if breading didnt quite do it justice. They coated the meat with quite a lot of breadcumbs - to the point where it became too oily and heavy. There was also a weird gritty texture to the coating. This being said, im glad the curry sauce and beautifully cooked rice made up for it.

At Coco Ichibanya, it’s a common practice to customize your curry meal by selecting your favorite topping, amount of rice, and preferred level of spiciness for the curry sauce. On the menu, options for toppings include sausage with eggplant, fried squid and stewed shrimp, hamburger, clam, beef, pork cutlet, and chicken.

1st visit: I had one of the most recommended dishes of the house: Pork Cutlet and Vegetables Curry (PhP 440). The deep-fried pork cutlet was a splendid and savory combination of crispy bread crumbs and juicy pork. I felt courageous that time and opted for the crazy hot (max level), but the spiciness was too intense for me to handle. I learned the lesson and remembered to choose mild the next time.

2nd visit: With mild-hot curry sauce, Pari Pari Chicken Curry (PhP 310) was generally a crowd-pleaser. It immediately offered an island escape, sans flight, with its fragrance. The chicken was perfectly cooked. It was tender and juicy while the skin was still crispy outside. The spices were balanced so I did not get overwhelmed by the taste.

3rd visit: For something a little different, I got the Shrimp Curry Rice Gratin (PhP 330) which appealed somewhere between saucy and soupy. This Japanese curry rice gratin was a bit sweet, lending itself particularly well to shrimp. Unlike the other two though, heat level cannot be adjusted upon cooking. For “chili heads,” adding curry powder (available on the table) may do justice.

Back at our favorite curry place, but now in Eastwood. Such a pleasant vibe even from afar. The curry is so aromatic, it draws you in even from afar.
Today we changed our rhythm a bit by ordering the Chicken Burger (P390) - though definitely smaller than other options, the tender and juicy meat, with the extra hot curry sauce and egg on top, is a sure fire hit to any experimental pallette.
As for me, I got myself the Pork Cutlet Omelet Curry (P360) which comes with Katsudon sleeping on a wet bed of scrambled egg, Japanese rice and curry goodness! Love how the pork fat is just a tiny lining.
We both upgraded our dishes to a meal for an additional of P80 each. With this, you can choose 2 options between the salad, drink, soup or ice cream. I got myself the iced and ice cream.
Highly suggest you take this upgrade too as the ice cream will give that good break on your tongue towards any richness of taste.
Definitely going back!

It's my first time to come to this place and the first thing that stood out was uts cleanliness and good ambiance. I'm very impressed that no smoke and smell of curry circulating inside the restaurant.

Tried their Creamed Chicken Curry Omelet and was overwhelmed in the amount of food on the plate. Curry sauce had a little kick but not too spicy which goes well with the cream and the omelet. Tenderness of the chicken was superb, and moist on the inside which is good.

Service is very efficient, crew were very attentive. I was really impressed with the use of a tablet in taking an order, which is very effective to avoid confusion as well as the use of paper.

First impressions last, and I will definitely have another bite in this place. Kudos!
